The family of star actress, Stella Damasus has denied the media report that their dad, Pa Damasus who died on January 4, died of cancer and kidney problem. In a chat with Shirley Uyakonwu, an elder sister of the actress, she disclosed that the man died of cardiac arrest. “I was amazed that a tabloid claimed that he had kidney problem and protracted illness and all that. It’s not true. You know our dad had a heart problem a few years back and about two years ago we sent him to India. He went with one of my sisters to India and he was given a pacemaker. They inserted a pacemaker in his heart. Many people live with pacemaker for over 30 years and all that. All you just need to do is go for check-ups regularly. The pacemaker regulates the heart beat, it helps the heart to function and since he had the pacemaker, he has been good. He’s been fine, he’s been going for check-ups regularly. In fact he died on Monday January 4th, on Wednesday the 6th he was meant to come to Lagos for check up with my mum. So it was two days before he was supposed to come that he died. What we know is that he had cardiac arrest, it just came up suddenly in the house on that Monday morning. Before then he was at a ceremony on Saturday and on Sunday morning he was in church, because that was the first Sunday of the year. He saw everybody and he went home. On Monday morning he got up, had his breakfast and was going to have his bath when this happened, it wasn’t as if he was ill or anything. After that surgery two years ago he has been healthy. He drove himself, he goes anywhere, he was just living a normal life before it happened”. Speaking further, she said Pa Damasus was very healthy before his death. “He was the healthiest man ever, he had his complete health check last year and he was given an absolutely clean bill of health… nothing about kidney and all that. He didn’t even have high cholesterol, he didn’t have high blood pressure, his health has been fantastic, I don’t know where the story of kidney problem and all that is coming from, never ever”. Speaking on the burial arrangement, the banker revealed that the family has chosen February 4th, 5th and 6th. Said she:“Because he is a titled man, he is an Ogbueshi in Asaba tradition, Delta State ; his burial will not just be a one off ceremony. In fact the final rites started the day after he died. On the 4th there will be service of songs at home and then on Friday, we will just have the wake-keeping right in the church and then in the cemetery and we have a reception for guests on Friday, and the traditional burial rites will hold on Saturday where all the culture and customs and everything will come out. The whole of Saturday will feature the traditional burial rites. Then on Sunday we have the outing service in church and then more reception ”, |
