Gosh!
Thank God for wisdom. My daughter couldn't latch on to my nipple at birth. We tried and tried but the hospital staff especially the lactation specialist insisted that she should be breast fed. Fortunately, her peadiatrician is Nigerian and told us in yoruba to express and give her a bottle. See as the babe guzzle the milk ehn i almost wept. So i would have just starved my baby for nothing. Now she takes expressed milk and formular. I can't shout o
Imagine. So the babe would have been made to suffer and possibly get dehydrated just because they want her to latch? Dem no well cheesy

The hospital I used was so anti-formula. I thought it was only Nigerian general hospitals that did so. When I insisted on giving him formula because I was too tired to breastfeed him, they gave me a long lecture on how formula can cause obesity, etc that even 1 bottle is enough. That one na their own beeswax sha. They gave me the breastpump free to encourage me to breastfeed more.

Does anyone know what type of formula is good for a baby with food allergies? Prince is 2 weeks plus and has plenty gas as well as loose stool.
You dey mind them? Please feed the child whatever works good for you are, they like making a mountain out of a molehill. Though I've never used fomular before, I heard Enfamil Gentlease, Enfamil ProSoBee, Similac Pro-Sensitive and Similac Sensitive can be used for gassy babies. You might wanna try it.

As for being unable to eat, You're not the only one. I couldn't eat for weeks after I had the baby and they also thought I was trying to lose weight but I just didn't have the appetite. I was producing approximately 45 ounces of milk per day, yet I had no appetite. It will gradually increase (appetite) but you might not be ravenous and be eating everything and anything like people say you do when you're lactating. I still eat very minimal food and i'm never really hungry. I did lose weight really fast though

Mothers, please read and learn. I found this article to be an eye opener. May God help us take the right decision plus provide adequate care for our children. Amen
Very very good read. May God help us do right by our kids and may we encounter good and capable doctors, nurses and caregivers. My baby also had jaundice and I didn't know because nobody told me despite the fact that thedoctors and attendants at his birth knew he was jaundiced and had a slightly higher bilirubin level. The did nothing!. The only thing I noticed was that he was so lethargic (won't open his eyes, especially when the lights in the room were on). He also won't eat. He would try and latch, suck three or four times then get off again. They also refused me giving him formular! As at day two, he had eaten nothing!! It was until the pediatrician who also happened to be Nigerian came the next morning that she told me EBF is not a medal. I should try and give him formula. He won't also take the formular but I tried. Pumping breastmilk probably saved my son and allowed his bili levels drop so fast. He would not take more than 10ml then cos he was so weak from the sheer amount of bilirubin in him and they had to pass a tube through his nose and down his belly to make sure he's getting fed. I was not happy with it, but I knew it was needed cos I know his bilirubin level has to go down as fast as possible so as not to risk brain injury. If I was hell bent on putting him to my breast and trying to get in to suck, I would have entered one chance!

Here in the US, if you have certain insurances, you get any kind of breastpump for free but you need a Doctor's certification that you're indeed pregnant to get it. When I asked my OB for the referral when I was still pregnant, he absolutely refused to give me, talmbout how he won't give me one until I have the baby and latch has been established!. TF?? I had to go behind his back and talk to my insurance company who referred me to the breastpump providers and they contacted and got my referral directly from the doctor's office. This was a doctor who decided to still be seeing me every two weeks as at 37 weeks, when he was supposed to be seeing me every week. When I asked him, he said it's because my pregnancy was stress free and he doesn't see the need to see me every week. My hubby (he always went with me for my prenatal appointment screamed blue murder and threatened brimstone and fire at the doctor. he was so pissed! God forbid I develop pre-eclampsia or whatever in between those two weeks, how will they catch it? And this was a doctor, at a highbrow medical facilities that I decided to chose just because I thought they will offer superior service despite the higher out of pocket costs.

Sorry for my rant, that story was similar to what happned to me and had I listened to everything my OB said and not applied common sense, my case would have been sorry now. Please mamas, listen to your healthcare providers but also do your own research before seeing the doctor and ask questions. Question anything and everything (even if it means the healthcare providers will tire for your matter and give your side eyes). If any advise or recommendation they give you does not sound right or sit well with you, challenge it, ask why and research well. They do whatever you feel good about. Provided it's not detrimental. Now I pretty much pump all the time, and feed him bottles of breastmilk. At least I'm sure he's eating and how much he's getting to avoid stories that touch. If my supply goes down, I know immediately and find ways to rectify it. Once beaten, twice shy. I don't want stories that touch

Sorry for the uber long post. End of rant grin cheesy

Mothers without househelps, how do you guys cope? Please I need ideas o! My mum went back to her base two weeks ago and it's not been easy for me. Still sourcing for S househelps but yet to get one. Hubby had to take me to the hospital last night because I felt so weak but I'm better now. It's not easy taking care of my ds, the house. My husband etc. I'll appreciate useful tried and tested ways to manage myself. Hubby tries too but he works till night time so the only time he can really help out is on weekends
Its not easy, but with proper planning you can do it. I'm also alone with my son and hubby. My mom died when I was 35weeks pregnant and my MIL went back to Nigeria when baby was 7 weeks old. I went back to work when he was 7 weeks as well.

What I did? Like Alphahandmaiden said "PLANNING"
1. I plan properly. At night, I wash and dry all his bottles. Then fill with breastmilk and put in the fridge pending the next morning. Then I pack his diaper bag, put it in the car. Plus all other things he might need for daycare the next morning.

2. Over the weekend, I cook a lot of food and freeze and all I do during the week is thaw and microwave whatever meal I want. Sometimes if I like, I do cook from scratch during the week though.

3. We do division of labor. I take the baby to the daycare when I leave for work early in the day and hubby gets him from daycare in the evening. I work one hour out of town and my hubby works in town, so he gets home before me. During the weekend when we're home, he looks after him, helps me load the washer or dryer while I cook or sleep to recharge for the upcoming week. I also don't do laundry during the week again, both mine and the baby's. It waits till the weekend.

4. I set my alarm for 4:50 am, some days I get up immediately, some days I get up by 5:20 ish. I pump, have a quick shower (I usually shower the night before too) and then wake the baby, feed the baby, wipe him down and off we go. I give him a thorough bath in the night and just wipe him down the next morning. I also lay out his outfit for the next morning. Sometimes if he's awake before I have a chance to get ready, I wake my husband and he helps hold or feed him while I get ready

If I don't plan my days like that, I will go crazy. I work 1hour out of town (that's a two hour drive a day), plus a newborn and a home. It's a lot to handle without breaking down. I also sleep a LOTTTTT during the weekend. To be refreshed for the new week

Don't mind Naija parents, out to show off constantly and compete. There was a particular fellow who thought the "competition" between his daughter and Baby E was so fierce, he applied himself diligently to the "competition" so I had to avoid him.

"oh baby E was 3.2lbs at birth? My girl was 5 lbs! Oh she had more hair at birth than now? Well, if you had seen my daughter's hair, so full! Oh she doesn't want to drink milk at 5 months? My baby drinks soooo much milk and is so fat! Baby E is standing at 8 months, my girl is already sitting at 3 and a half months"

Haba.
Nawa. I would think its a woman that would be that petty, not a man. Smh. If you have Shea butter apply it on her nose not inside and it will clear and make breathing easy.

Once you feel you're healed enough and the general tightness down below is gone. Pretty much when you're comfortable sha. I didn't do sitz bath, I was using the spray bottles filled with water and Epsom salt. I think I stopped using it when the discomfort was gone... maybe 10-11 days after giving birth. Mamas in the house....can we do this research together and see what we can gather...I read a medical article on reader's digest that soymilk or soya beans is not too safe for children less than a YEAR especially boys because of its high doses of estrogen!! The article specifically mentioned that it should not be used as a replacement for infant formula...
High level of estrogen present in Soya bean in boys delays and can even inhibit their sexual maturity and can lead to low sperm production in later life. High doses in baby Girls caused premature puberty .....
Tried verifying it on Google and saw articles towing that line too...

Happy to officially join the thread. Yipee!!!

Question time grin
Pls ma, Ds always hiccups consistently after each feed even after i have burped him, what can i do to stop that hiccups as e dey do me somehow for body cry

Pls can someone explain how to effectively burp a baby with ease as i find myself spending so much time before he belches.

Also light situation isn't helping much and now small small rashes are appearing, wetin i go do to send d rashes packing.

How regularly should diapers be changed even if he didn't soil it with urine ?

Thanks mamas
A nurse taught me how to burp the baby in the hospital. She told me to tap from the middle of the back, around the area the stomach is and tap towards the top of his back. This she said, pushes the air trapped inside upwards and towards his mouth and allows him to burp. She demonstrated it and baby burped in less than a minute. So tap on his back upwards, beginning from the middle of his back and work your way towards his neck. The maximum time it's ever taken my baby to burp is 3 minutes.
As per diaper, if baby doesn't soil it I don't change. But maybe it's my baby, he always manages to have a moderately wet diaper in 3-4 hours and I change it. I feel guilty the day I allowed him to sleep the night in a wet but not soiled diaper. I change it immediately he poops though.

My baby started using one when he was 3 days old. He was given one at the NICU and I just came and found it in his mouth. Make sure to get one with soft teats that feels like a nipplë.

I mostly give him at nights, when he won't settle down to sleep. He sleeps off in minutes after.

Mamas i am sorry i am posting this here.... wanted to take it to new born thread but i started the complain here...lemme just finish it here.... plus its still November... we still own the floor bahuh Lol

Thank you all so much for the advise on increased flow. Infact from no flow to small flow to now.
Rofemiguwa gave me fenugreek.... it made me see breast milk and i am so grateful.
Then for the increase in flow... i used 1. Ate iru twice.... 50naira worth first night n second night. Couldn't bring myself to eat it the next morning..... lol
2. I ate well, drink bucket of water n slept well... infact i fell sick and they said it was stress as am restless.... they said the headache i had was bp but it cleared after resting for two days...
3. I ate bitterleaf soup twice. Really ate the leaves.....
4. I stopped wearing bra and was practically naked.... MIL said to let the boobs breath.... that bra is used to wean babies.... grin
I couldnt do palmwine.... hubby would have to go towards akudo to get... so far.

Outcome.
See milk shocked
The moment i carry Zoey.. its starts pouring from both boobs.... like hian.
Its more when she is sucking one... the other will be staining bed ... undecided
Zoey has not taken any other thing than breast for the past 48hours.... she latches but its painful except i remove n reposition... which causes annoyance. Lol
Then she would suck for long and close her eye u will think she has slept.. try removing breast and see that her gum is clinched tight to it...lol then the sucking will start again.
My sleep now is less than 2 hours o.... she sucks round d clock... once i put her down she stays calm for 10mins and wakes up looking for bobbi... hian.
But today seems different becos of what happened.

Ok.
My girl has been poo-ing with every milk she swallows.
Like when she sucks and i bring her to burp... she will polute n shiit. So i became worried. Made formular this evening and gave her. Then pumped 90mil each from them boobies and threw away.
I am now worried.
Is she reacting to my milk?
I used to allow her suck daily before....the flow was established so we cant say its soured or is that it?
Why is she stooling?
I have vowed not to take tea n bread again as that has been my only meal for days now.... thats why i pumped n threw away... maybe the sugar content is much... please help me! advise me.

Mil said i should put "kamfura pelebe" in water n be giving her one spoon... i have been acting deaf... saying i dont know where to get it.
Pleade help me....

This is my testimony n worry.
So far she doen't have rashes and her poops are not green and slimy...then she's fine. My baby does the same, if he farts for you ehn....you'll think its an adult. So loud and the smell can wake the dead! cheesy cheesy The moment you put breastmilk in his mouth, he poops. Everytime! Which means I change his diaper before or after every feed or in-between. At a point, he was using like 12 diapers a day.

But his doctor said he was fine. So keep eating whatever your eating. So far she's not reacting. My baby gradually toned down with the pooping a little bit and his poopy diaper has reduced to like 3-4 per day. Though he still gets lots of wet ones. That was around 8 weeks old. Please don't give her the kamfura.

As per sucking, she might not be sucking per se, she might just be doing some comfort sucking. Babies do that, they're on your boobies but are not swallowing, just wanna be attached to the breast. My baby's NICU doctor told me that and I researched more. But he also told me not to allow her use me as a human pacifier cheesy, so I detach him sometimes and he will cry a little, stop and sleep right away. Sometimes I give him a binky to suck on, but not often.

Mothers in the house I have nipple sores and its painful. My mom says it could last for two weeks and that thought is scary. What's the best cure for the sores? I've used coconut oil and I press with hot water and she says my dd's mouth will heal it. But everytime I nurse I see stars and I'm now scared to put my baby to the breast.
My solution might not be conventional but it did work for me. My baby had a bad latch, terrible in-fact. Coupled with my flat and inverted nipplés, you can imagine the outcome. My nips were a mess! Torn, bloody, scabby and breastfeeding was a nightmare. I tried using Medela and even Lansinoh nipplé creme but the moment I pumped or but the bréast in his mouth, the sores would open up again and I will start crying. What I did was to stop putting him to my breast because he latches with such force, and after pumping, I will clean my nipples with metylated spirit and then apply a nipplé stick creme I got to lubricate it. Then I wash off before the next pumping. My nipplés healed in less than 2 weeks and now it doesn't hurt when he latches...He seems to prefer the bottle to the breast for now but I am trying to re-establish direct bréastfeeding.

At 2months or so I noticed a lymph nodes(i call it lymph nodes cos that is what google called it) at the back of my ds ears. one was so moveable while the other was not, later on one dried up a little while the other, the not so moveable one is still there looking at me. it is quite visible, like two size sokoto bean.

I also noticed two lymph nodes at the tail end of his neck in sept. these ones are not visible cos flesh covered them.

will they still disappear mamas? my ds is totally fine.
Mine had two tiny ones on his head. I freaked out but the doctor said it was fine. They're both gone now. To be safe though, see a pediatrician.

My baby is 10weeks old today...I have been feeding him with 120ml every 2-3 hours..except he sleeps longer than 3hours but once he wakes I feed him. Recently, I started making it 130ml . But I don't seem to be comfortable with his poo frequency. It is too frequent except at night (he doesn't poo throughout the night for more than a week now)...like every 2-3hours too and very loose...My mind occasionally thinks diarhea but then no fever or weakness. I used to give him 90ml before, then he started crying for more, So I made it 120ml and when he wouldn't finish it I reduced it to 105ml (around 3.5 ounces). He usually eats between 2.5 hours to 4 hours but since Monday, his sitter has told me he's been eating more. I dropped him off around 6:20am and he had already eaten 3 bottles of 3.5ml breast-milk. That's 10.5ml in around 6 hours. I added an extra bottle to his bottles this morning. Will see how he fares with it when I get home this evening.

As for diapers, he's been pooping well and enough(most of the time when I feed him). I get at least 4 poopy diapers in a day. And I use between 7-12 diapers a day. But pretty much an average of nine. This is because don't like him sitting around in his waste (fear of diaper rash). Don't fear about lose stools, breast-milk poop isn't supposed to be hard. So far its not green, too watery, slimy or black, he is fine.

Breast-milk is pretty much water anyways, so just feed him on demand
