Sha, OB started giving me pelvic exams starting at my 36 week appointment and I was already dilated to 1.5cm then. I was happy thinking I will have the baby soon. But for where, this girl would not budge. Everytime I go to the doctor, I was progressing but no sign of labor was coming other than the severe pelvic pain I’ve had to deal with all third trimester.

My last week of pregnancy, I started getting frustrated and irritated. I was angry, cranky and just helpless. I wanted this girl out but no luck. Then came my due date. I went to bed thinking I will be woken up with labor pains but I woke up feeling the best I’ve ever felt all third trimester. That was when I started crying, lmaooo. My husband was just looking at me and saying “sorry”. Around 2pm that afternoon, I got a burst of energy and started cleaning downstairs like there was some sort of emergency. After I finished I had the urge to take a shower, which I did. I didn’t go back downstairs, I laid on the couch upstairs in the loft and wanted to take a nap. That was around 4pm. That was when I started feeling the pains. I didn’t even pay attention. I mean it wasn’t super painful or anything, it felt like Braxton Hicks. But they were coming very frequently and back to back. I still didn’t believe it. I mean I had been having crazy Braxton Hicks for weeks now with no sign of baby.

My husband decided to take a nap with the boys and when he passed by me on his way, he noticed my face had changed. Hw asked me “what’s up?” And I replied “I don’t know o, but I don’t feel good”. I told him to go take a nap and I will wake him up if it gets worse. One hour later around 5pm, I couldn’t stand it again and my contraction timer said to go to the hospital as well, so I woke my husband. I told him to chill while I packed a backpack for the boys so we can drop them off at the babysitter where my sister will get them later that night or in the morning. He thought I was joking cos I was relatively calm and taking normal. I started looking for my older son’s sandals everywhere with no luck so I told him to take me to the store before we dropped them off so I can get him new sandals. He said okay.

We sha loaded everyone into the car around 5:30pm and off we went. When we pulled out of our street, I saw that he headed the opposite direction to the babysitters house instead of the store to get sandals but I didn’t even talk. I already put him in another pair of shoes anyways, and I didn’t even have the strength to tell him to turn around and go to the store. It was in the car that I started growling small small. Like play, like play, I started shifting in my seat and doubling over. Called my sister to tell her I was dropping the kids off at the sitter and she was asking me if I was feeling labor pains cos she literarily saw me that afternoon before she went to work and I was 100% fine. I told her not to ask me stupid questions and Sha get ready to go and pick the kids that night if I done come home. She got the drift and left me alone.

Birth Story

Part 1
One of the things I enjoyed reading on this page are the birth stories so I’m here to drop mine. Team July 2020, I apologize for putting this here late, I just gave baby midnight food, might as well type my BS now. So here goes.
PS: I apologize for the long story, make una no vex, I like to talk and I been wan gist una how the thing go grin

I got pregnant when I was least expecting it, but what do you expect lol? My husband and I have been working from home since the pandemic started seriously in February of 2021, so Na the result of all the indiscriminate knacking be this. cheesy cheesy

I wouldn’t lie, I was disappointed cos the plan was to further my career as much as I can and have the third child sometimes in 2023. I didn’t even start seeing my OB until my first trimester was over cos I wasn’t happy that I got pregnant but slowly but surely I began to warm up to the idea.

At 16 weeks I checked gender and lo and behold, it was a girl! Omo times 1 million, I went crazy. I already had two boys, and finally my princess was coming. My elder sister especially went overboard and bought so many things I had to ban her from buying more stuff.

Anyways, pregnancy was textbook. No complications, no trouble no wahala. I was due on the 3rd of July. Our family friends from out of town were supposed to come and celebrate Independence Day (4th of July)with us and their parents and I really wanted to have the baby before my due date so I everybody can see her before the weekend was over. I had a nagging feeling that might not be the case and I won’t go into labor early (despite it being my third child and my OB saying I might go early) because for some reason my body likes to cook my babies till their due date. I had my first child on his due date and I suspect I would have had my second on his due date if I wasn’t induced 3 days before his due date due to cholestasis and low platelets count.

This cholestasis should not be taken lightly at all! There is a huge risk of infant mortality if untreated and/or if baby stays till full term. I just stumbled on this last week during my research as to what could cause itching in pregnancy. Had itching on my legs/hands and immediately saw my OBGYN to complain. She ordered a blood test ASAP. Everything came out fine and the itching subsided the next day.
You’re right my sister. I just didn’t want to alarm the person who asked the question. I nearly ran mad when the thing affected me. I’ll be itching like crazy. Crying. Rolling on the floor. To the extent that I was using cortisone itch cream as my body lotion to calm the itch. The maddening part is that this thing flares up at night when I’m tired and ready to sleep. I was never able to sleep and that was the reason I had to get induced. My OB got scared and told me “let’s get this baby out.”

If it’s that bad that she’s getting scars on her body, it’s time to see the doctor and get some tests done.

Hello mummies in the house, my body is itching me badly. I am 24 weeks pregnant. In the first trimester, my breast was the only part itching, now, it's my breast, chest, neck and face that is itching badly. The itching is accompanied with pimples/rashes(I dunno what it is). On my last ANC visit, I complained about it and I was prescribed loratidine and it's not working for the itching. Pls what can I do because I have small injuries on my chest and neck from the itching cry

You might have cholestasis. It occurs when the flow of bile from your liver is reduced or blocked. I had serious itching with my first child to the extent that I was using cold water straight from the fridge to bathe to calm the itch. It can be quite serious in pregnancy if not monitored. Talk to your doctor, get them to run a test and see if your levels are elevated. They might be able to prescribe something.

Hmm. , the signs are always there but sometimes we ignore the warnings. Some women know their husbands have this weakness but still carelessly leave their husbands to walk into dangerous relationships that can kill him or both of them even through STI like HIV. A 2-week camping with a strange woman can never escape detection of a wife 100% involved in the daily life of her husband. It's so sad he died such a violent death and I pray he gets justice in death. Imagine his children and their friends hearing the way their adulterous dad died in the hands of a strange live-in-lover woman who is not their mother.visit FreeStuffsNG for latest freestuffs in Nigeria.
Y’all must find a way to blame a woman for the failings of a man. What was the wife supposed to do? Insert a tracking microchip in his arm to monitor his movement? A man became a victim of an unfortunate crime due to not honoring his marriage vows and you still have to try and turn it on his wife. Are you okay?

This man was a grown man who had the freedom to remain faithful to his wife, but he chose to engage with women outside of his marriage. As far as I know, adults should be liable for their own actions.

Let’s even say the wife somehow knows that her husband is playing house with a Sidechick somewhere and makes effort to go there to break up the tryst, it’s online people like you that will still call her insecure, tell her “Shebi you have the ring. He will still come back home with to you. Stop embarrassing yourself”

God forbid mentality like yours.

Thanks alot everyone. My sis inlaw came this morning quarreling with me, that all men cheat and that the only mistake he made was bringing her home and also dating women around us. They said i should bear and forgive him. I don't have no parents or family members. He was begging me since on Friday, but when his sisters came he started talking with confidence saying my friends are asking me to leave the marriage. And he was bragging to them. I just went inside and cried. If my mum was around, i don't think all these would be happening. I miss my parents so much. But i have decided to gather some money and do something tangible with my life. Thanks alot for your concerns
May God bless your homes
I’m sorry to say, your sister inlaw is a silly, evil, narcissistic. I’m guessing she’s married, would age appreciate someone telling her the same if it was her husband who did the same to her? I’m tired of women you side by their brothers regardless of what bad attitude they come up with. You won’t die if you call your sibling out on their bad behavior.

I can’t tell you what to do, but if I were in your shoes, I will give that man space. I went through the agony of IVF only for you to disrespect me by not only cheating but having the effing gall to bring your trip home. While I’m pregnant? Okay o. I will chose to protect my sanity, even if it means excusing myself from that house. Flashing back to the moment when I saw the girl in the car can trigger depression and anger , especially given the pregnancy. Only you can make a decision my dear. My heart breaks for you and I pray you find peace in your heart and enough love to give to your unborn❤️

In her case she wasn’t asked, but if you’re asked of course you have to come clean. But I really don’t think border officers have an issue with it, it’s the visa officers that have an issue with going to birth.

CBP: How long are you here?
Me: 5 weeks , including the 10 days of quarantine
CBP: What are your plans?
Me: first I will visit Bleep , and then plan my visit to yyy and zzz

She was asked how long she will be staying, she said 5 weeks when she’s gonna be here for much longer. What her plans were: she said visit, when indeed she was here to give birth. But what do I know?

I’m not sure if people know that their interactions with CBP officials are always noted and could come up in their subsequent renewals.

If she isnt showing soo much, dont let her declare, get a good reason for the trip and hope for the best.

I know someone that was visibly pregnant some years back (before the crazy refusals though) and she said she was going for a different purpose, not child birth but said she might change her mind if her cousin is around and she got the visa, mentioned her cousin will not be available when she puts to bed and wouldnt want to be alone with the baby without any support hence her reason for not been 100% sure she will give birth in the US

And we start blaming the VOs and the entire American government when we’re denied renewal or even banned. Why are you encouraging her to lie when her true intent is obvious? We complain about discrimination and in the same vein turn around and do stuff like this. I tire mehn.

Wow. That's really great. They must have known you could go ahead.my sister had to do Cs to birth 4kg.
We only get 2 standard ultrasounds during pregnancy (dating ultrasound to estimate due date and anatomy scan around 20 weeks to check for abnormalities). Getting ultrasounds before birth isn’t standard practice where I live unless your pregnancy is high risk or something happens in between (like going over your due date), so nobody could estimate how big they were until I had them, but my OB actually thought my second was gonna be a lot smaller due to how small I was during his pregnancy. They were both fairly easy births

Doctors here also don’t usually schedule a cesarean unless you have other risks factors or markers or they suspect a macrosomic baby which I had none of.

Is not too big. My friend gave birth 3 days ago to 4.2kg without tear. And when she had her first child, she weighed 3.1kg with plenty tear. What I know is most doctors don't allow first timer to birth 4kg+babies. Are u a first time mum? Besides scan gives estimate. Scan gave me 3.5kg for my daughter and when I gave birth she weighed 3.25kg.
Doctors do allow moms birth 4kg plus babies. My first child was 4.3kg and I had him vaginally. The second was 4.2kg and he was also born vaginally.

Hi Guys.
It is sooo refrshing to be back on here. Havent been here since 2018 when I had my last baby. How are things? I can imagine a lot has changedddd. Ok so i wanna ask, back then, the popular hospitals in Richmond Texas was Oakbend and HNWMC. Has this changed? Are Texas hospitals still being flagged for low prices? Do people still have to look for hospitals that are really pricey to avoid accusations of defrauding Americans of their hard earned money in taxes? what is new guys? from recent posts I can see that people are not disclosing their pregnancies anymore but rather going vis the visit route. All this wasnt the case during my time. My sis is 6 months preggy and has a visa interview end of this month so needs as much information as possible. Kindly help a sister out. She will be staying in Richmond Texas
Gratias
Let her try her luck. But I’m sure she’s gonna be showing already. The Biden administration still hasn’t rescinded the Trump administration’s directive of denying visas to people seeking to birth in the US. And this is me assuming she’s disclosing childbirth as her visit reason. So, I’m honestly not sure how that’s gonna play out. But it can swing either way. I hope something gives.

Yeah, that's the Random Blood Sugar. I think that's the one she did first (although hers was urine) and they got a + in her urine which led to this Fasting Blood Sugar in order to figure out if the sugar was just high like that on that day because of sth she ate or if she has high blood sugar even after fasting.
Oh I see. I must have missed the part where she mentioned the protein in her urine, makes sense to do the two hour fasting test. My OB told me then that if I failed the 1hour I had to take to 2 hour fasting test.

I was at the hospital yesterday morning, but I don't think I can undergo the test procedure,I live in a four storey apartment, I can't descend the stairs without eating cox I was told to stop eating a night ahead of the test, come to the hospital after 12 hours that I've stopped eating, that they will be drawing blood for test every 30 mins for 2 hours while they give me one teaspoon of glucose to drink,I will now eat after the 2 hours.I don't have the strength to do such test.
Gestational Diabetes is not something to joke with. It is harmful to both mother and the baby. It’s better you try and do the test now and rule out GD and be able to go about your life peacefully than not know. May we not blame ourselves. Please, try and do the sugar screen I beg of you.

Ask your doctor if the 1 hour screen can be done for you. The last one I did was a 1 hour screen and wasn’t fasting prior to when I took the test. I ate normally all day. I went in around 2pm (infact I ate 2 donuts before I got there) and I was given a sugary drink like juice in a bottle to drink. I went back after an hour to get my blood drawn and that was it. I passed. My OB told me I can do that one but if I failed the 1 hour test, then I will have to do the 2 hour one.

Happy Sunday everyone. Please I want to ask what could be the cause of frequent headache. I have been experiencing headache off and on since last week, even when I take a nap, it doesn't go away. I just woke up now and I'm still feeling headache. I complained to my doctor on Friday during antenatal but she didn't say anything. My PCV and blood pressure is okay and I'm not feeling sick, just the headache.
I had this issue with all my pregnancies and my OB said it’s due to low protein and to try and eat more protein. I did and it helped. Also drinking a lol bit of caffeinated drinks like Coca Cola or a small cup of coffee always took the headache away for me. You can try that.
Tylenol also helped me, any med with acetaminophen as its active ingredient should take the edge off

Please try and do it before 24 weeks if you want to. It’s usually done between 18-21 weeks for optimal results. That ultrasound has saved many babies and moms, not sure why it’s not mandated by Nigerian doctors. I used to believe it’s non-negotiable.

Mama please what's the Rhesus factor of you and your hubby?
I mean are you O+ or O-
We’re both Rhesus positive. O+ and B+. Rhesus issues is actually kind of reverse of the ABO incompatibility. A Rhesus positive mom’s immune system treats her Rhesus positive baby’s fetal cell as an intruder and develops antibodies to it. But it won’t affect a firstborn child unless the mom has had stillborns in the past or miscarriage or maybe abortion. Subsequent pregnancies are at risk though, cos the mom might be sensitized by then and the antibodies that was developed with the first pregnancy will always attack the fetus and cause the mom to miscarry. It rears its head when a woman is pregnant with a Rhesus + baby.

That’s why Rhesus - women should always get that Rhogam shot after childbirth, miscarriage or to be safe, abortion. It protects the mom from being sensitized and develop antibodies which can cause miscarriages and stillborn babies. Lord help us.

@oke how is our prince doing now.Quick recovery ijn.
Experienced mamas should enlighten we ftm what causes jaundice in babies. At my clinic they said not taking antimalarial drugs causes it.How true is that cos I only used it once in the journey of this pregnancy

For both of my kids, it was caused by ABO incompatibility. I’m blood type O, my husband is blood type B and both my baby boys came out sharing their dads blood type B. During pregnancy and birth, the mom’s immune system might detect the baby’s unfamiliar blood protein antigens and create antibodies to fight the unfamiliar protein in the baby’s blood. This immune response causes the baby’s red blood cells to break down after its born and that’s what causes jaundice in babies who’s blood type is different from their mom’s.

oh my! He’s at 10.9 he’s under 3 uv lights and taking furoxetil every 12 hours and abidec daily he is currently breastfed the nurses said if I keep him under the light well it would improve but he keeps crying

Very Good. They’re taking care of him well. They probably are still holding him until the levels drop to a 5 or lesser (hospital policy varies). And yes, the nurses are right, keep him under the lights for majority of the time. Infact, if they have a bili blanket underneath him, lift him and the bili blanket up together when you’re breastfeeding him. Put him back under the lights immediately after he’s done feeding. Make sure you feed him often. The more he pees and poops, the faster the bilirubin is excreted from his system. My first had bili levels close to 20 when they found out, anytime I think about it, I just praise God. Cos it can only be Him that saved that boy and made sure he has no side effects from it.

I know it’s exhausting, I cried a lot when my kids had to go through it, but it passes quickly and you’ll even forget they didn’t go home quickly. Both mine didn’t even have a proper naming ceremony, and Its pretty important to us Yorubas but they were in the NICU for more than two weeks. I just told people their names and had a cleric come and bless them. So far my kids are alive, naming doesn’t matter.

Hi mamas please who has or had experience with jaundice they’ve refused to discharge me since Sunday o and I don’t like this uv light therapy seems it’s not working I’m honestly tired and drained
Please don’t say you don’t like the UV light o. For them not to discharge you, that means the jaundice is really high. You have to be patient and let them take care of your precious one, mom. I know you want to go home, you will eventually. Infact Na you go eventually tire.

Jaundice is no joke and if left untreated can lead to live altering outcomes for the child. Both my kids were severely jaundiced and spent no less than 16 days at the hospital before they let them go home. My first actually had to be airlifted to a children’s hospital in another city cos his own was so bad. They didn’t check his blood type nor check his jaundice early until very late and the thing had already set in. They were already preparing our minds for an exchange transfusion, but God intervened and it didn’t get to that.

What kind of jaundice does your child have? Did they tell you? What other treatment are they given apart from the phototherapy? How many lights are on him/her? What are the daily levels? Is it reducing? Does the baby have a bili blanket underneath? Is the baby breastfed or formula fed? Ask questions mama. Don’t be afraid to ask. It’s your right.

No. They give the validity based on the expiration of your passport. At least if you’re a Nigerian passport holder. If you’re passport is expiring in 5 years, they give you 5 years. If it’s expiring in 9 months, they give you a 9 months visa.
