Go with the first one. This is because earlier ultrasounds are more accurate than later ones for the calculating EDD as fetus grow at the pretty much a uniform eat earlier in pregnancies. As pregnancy progresses, babies can have a different growth rate, this is why doctors usually go by your earlier ultrasound and most won't change your due date except if there is a difference of 2 or more weeks

First off, life in America is not all beds of roses. Now, I am going to be plain and direct with you about life in America and tell it to you as it is. I am not wont to give off the impression of America as heaven on earth while actually the reality in the same 'heaven' is the opposite for many people living here. As a new immigrant to this country, basically you are starting life afresh and you would need between 2 to 5 years to be able to stand on your feet in this country and this includes sorting out your permanent residency status (many people get married to a PRdent or citizen, join the US army and become a citizen immediately thereby bypassing the green card step but joining the army requires signing about 6 years of contract with them, or obtain their PR by doing business and investing up to $500,000 or $1,000,000 depending on the type of business or by refugee/asylum status etc.) and this could take about a year or two to achieve, going back to school here in the US to obtain a US degree (our Nigerian degrees are not usually recognized here and to land well-paying jobs in corporate america, as an immigrant you would need to obtain a US degree and any attendant certifications where and when necessary - be prepared to go back to school again here in the US, establishing a credit history for yourself (I cannot overemphasize the importance of starting early as soon as one gets to America to start building one's credit history as this is the key to so many doors of opportunity in this country) etc. and it takes at least a year or 2 to have satisfactory credit history and a good score, adapting to the American culture, learning Americans and their ways of thinking and doing things etc. America has a high taxation rate, especially for employees. The tax rate can be very high especially if you're single. To give you an example, from a paycheck of $1,500 for 2 weeks of work (here you are paid biweekly and not once every month end like in Nigeria), about $400 is deducted in form of federal taxes, state taxes etc. leaving you with about $1,100. Or out of an annual yearly salary of $70,000, your actual take home pay would be about $46,000 as a single individual, with about $24,000 paid to Uncle Sam as taxes. Now, if you're married or you have kids, the tax rate is lower.

America is a beautiful country with an efficiently working system and well advanced technology in almost every facet of life. The weather is adorable such that within a year of staying here you begin to notice changes on your skin (with sunshine for only about 3 to 4 months of the entire year and cold/rain/snow for the remainder of the year, your skin begins to produce less and less of melanin pigment). The economy is robust such that without a university degree, there are lots of jobs for you to survive on but there is only an extent to how much you can make compared to having a US university degree. Food here is cheap and with $100 you can eat comfortably per month, especially if you cook at home. There is constant electricity 24/7 and you never have to worry about there being no light when you get home at night after a long stressful day. Water runs steadily at home - both hot and cold, and the choice is yours to use depending on the weather. Almost all homes are equipped with heaters and ACs such that you enjoy the best of summer and winter weathers. The system here works in so many ways. Depending on the state, there is often a minimum wage that is paid, and this ensures that nobody is unfairly underpaid in any work they do. Oh, did I forget the yearly tax returns? Did you know that every year you are required to file what they call a tax return, which is basically Uncle Sam's (nickname for the IRS) way of ensuring that everyone is paying their fair share of taxes and you are refunded some or all of Federal or/and state taxes you paid for the previous year which could amount to $1,000s? The internet service here is very fast with wi-fi in almost every house, on campus, some restaurants and fast food joints etc. There is much more enforced security and you can be sure of police arriving at your house in less than 5 minutes when you dial 911. The United States Postal Services works such that you barely have the need to use courier services except for international packages. The roads are all well-built with very few potholes here and there to ensure that your car lasts you quite a while. Needless to say, life in America is very comfortable but this comfort comes at a huge price. It is not for free neither is it cheap.

On the flip side, nothing in America is free. Every freebie you enjoy is accounted for in this country. You pay for every social amenity you enjoy down to the very little of it. Out of your biweekly paychecks per month you pay for your rent (or mortgage if you bought the house), light bill, water bill, gas bill (for cooking and for the house heater depending on the house type), internet bill, cable TV bill, monthly phone bill (phone service in this country is based on month to month subscription and for any month you do not pay or renew your subscription, your line is totally cut off and you're disconnected from friends and family. This is in reverse to what we have in Nigeria whereby if you don't have money to recharge credit on your phone, your line still remains connected for as long as 6 months and you don't have to worry about any monthly subscription fees whatsoever), bus transportation fares or car loan monthly payments (if you purchased your car on loan), gas/fuel for your car, feeding, miscellaneous etc. With little or nothing left after paying all these bills per month, you'd realize that you need to savings of your own. Then you have your relatives and friends back home asking you to send them dollars that afterall you're picking dollars from the streets.

To sum it up, you must have to work or be hardworking at whatever that you do to keep enjoying the social amenities that you enjoy. The system has been designed in such a way with several avenues that take the money away from you as you earn it, thus keeping you entrenched in the system.

Now, who are those I strongly recommend to come to the US? Those people who have very little or nothing going for them in Nigeria. People who work quite hard but have very little or no hopes of making it in Nigeria, people who have very little hopes of achieving, at least, a middle class life - a house, a nice car, a good job etc. in Nigeria. For such people, I strongly recommend them to come to the US. Please come over with any opportunity that you can get. Perhaps with hard work, you would get to live in a middle class style home that you've always wanted, drive new cars and models of your choice (most times on car auto loan with payment plan to pay back the bank or loan lender), have an above-average income job, enjoy the social amenities of America, etc. That is just about it, nothing more nothing less.

For those who already have a system working for them in Nigeria such as a successful business or a well-paying job with huge benefits today or sometime down the line, packing up your bags, abandoning a system already working for you and coming to the US would be your greatest folly. For this set of people, I would not recommend abandoning a system already working greatly for you just for the sake of going to obodo oyibo. With such system working for you, you could comfortably afford to visit the US at your leisure, come shopping in the US, etc. and still get to have a taste of American life while still having your system back home running for you. You get to taste the best of both worlds.

As for Canada, the economy of Canada is not as robust as that of the US. Yes, getting your PR in Canada is easier than that of the US however there are fewer jobs in Canada than in the US. There are many Nigerians that have finished their graduate studies in Canada and even with their PR (permanent residency), they are yet to find jobs in their field of study because jobs are scarce. In both US and Canada, just like in Nigeria, the oil market sector has slumped and oil companies have been laying off workers and there's currently a hiring freeze.

My suggestion to you would be to get a study leave with pay, or even without pay, to go to Canada to do your masters. DO NOT resign from your job before leaving. Get a study leave before coming, such that while doing your masters in Canada you get to study the economy and market here and if you decide to remain behind, you can then resign from your job. If after completing your MS you see that returning to Nigeria is a better option for you, you still have your job secured for you and you could always visit the US and/or Canada for vacation.

With all of these said, it is left to you to evaluate your situation and see where you stand. The ball is in your court and the decision is yours. I ji ji, jide mma (you hold the yam and also the knife, meaning you how you choose to cut the yam is your decision to make). Cheers.
Jeez! The man asked for advise on Canada and not the US! And you're writing 10 paragraphs about life in the US, smdh
Career › Re: Masters Or Stay On Job? by MamaOO: 4:54pm On May 03, 2016
I'd advise you to stay put in Nigeria. Canada is one of the worst hit countries right now who are laying off workers in the oil and gas sector. Although Canada is immigrant friendly, the jobs are not there in abundance. Lots of Canadians in the oil and gas field are looking for jobs in the US and even those in the US are unwilling to hire because they are also hit by the oil crunch and laying off their workers as well

You also mentioned that your admission came with no scholarship? Like seriously? You had a first class from Nigeria. You wanna spend all your life savings on a masters in Canada whereas you can get into grad school in the US with full tuition waiver based on your GPA and tests scores. You better be wise and evaluate well.

What a very brilliant topic......

My take on this is very simple, let every would be couple ascertain the genotype of their partner before tying the knot. From my personal experience, i never knew that my wife's genotype is AB and her blood group is O (negative) while mine is AA and O+ so when she gave birth, the doctor called me to pay for an injection called anti rhogam injection which will enable her breastfeed my son and this injection must be administered on her within the first 72hrs after delivery and same must follow after every other delivery. This would have caused serious crisis if not that i was able to manage it. So it is important for every would be couple to carry out medical check up on each other and be sure that they are compatible before taking the bold step.

Teamie, the best placenta presentation is posterior. This enables you to feel baby kicks early enough and does not also block the birth canal. Sometimes though, the placenta maybe anterior at the beginning of the pregnancy but as the pregnancy progresses, it moves up as it was the case in your second pregnancy. If it remains anterior till delivery time, the implication is that it will block the birth canal making it difficult or impossible for the baby to pass thro the cervix to the vagina. It usually necessitates a CS. But not to worry, keep an open mind . Yours till has time to move up. It will move up as it did in your previous pregnancy. ...Best wishes
#TeamAugust
No ma'am. There is no difference between posterior and anterior (only difference is that one implanted in the back and the other implanted in the front). The placenta never blocks the birth canal except it's low lying and that could certainly happen with both posterior and anterior. Having an anterior also never necessitates a CS if your baby is not breech or any other thing. I have fundal anterior placenta which means my placenta is in front but also on top of my uterus and I've had no problem feeling kicks whatsoever. I asked my doctor more than twice as well and he was not concerned one bit. wink

Here's a recent simple day makeup(no contour or highlighting) i did for my bloated preggy face. Lol
NB: Make nobody laugh my nose o, ehen!

I didn't attend any makeup class or training, i learnt how to do my own makeup from watching makeup tutorials on youtube/instagram and reading tips online. So if any mama is having issues doing her own makeup, start first by buying some of the basic things you need:
-Makeup brush set (Doesn't have to expensive. Mine was just 2k and it does the job well. I think its a must-have for every makeup lover)
- Eyebrow pencil (Doesn't have to be expensive. Ordinary 50naira Davis pencil can suffice for now)
- Concealer (I use L.A girl Pro Concealer cus its superb and just 1k. I use this to define my eyebrows, that is to make the lines stand out and to shapen them)
- Foundation (For this one, i didn't spare expense. I use BlackUp Foundation because its perfect for my skin tone and it doesnt look heavy on my face)
- Pressed or Loose powder (I also use BlackUp two way cake because its very light on the face)
- Eyeshadow (You can go for palettes or single eyeshadows)
- Lipstick (Buy as you like)
- Eyeliner to line your eyelids and black eyepencil to line under your eyes
- Face wipes ( Always wipe your face very well before applying makeup, even tho you just had your bath)

My favourite place to watch makeup tutorials is www.thatigbochick.com. I learnt a lot from her videos, especially her video on how to get the perfect eyebrow. You can check her out.
Those are the few things i remember. My brain is clogged now and i'll modify this post as i remember more. Hope it helps.
Your makeup is really pretty. I like your brows. Very neat and not distracting

Please help with a tip to clear my face n remove dead cells.
Pintrest don tire for me.
Nothing seems to be working
I have tried scrub. Queen Helens, tried eden. I have dead cells all over my face.
My skin is fresh but my face. With all d oil on my face like I just removed y face from oil pot of stew.
Here is what I use, and it works like a charm. I don't use the Neutrogena in the tube everyday though, cos I found out it over-compensates and removes oils too much, thereby making the skin on my face too dry and flaky. I use it like twice a week.

Here's how I use it, I use the St. Ives scrub daily(put it on like 5 mins before getting into the shower), then I use the Neutrogena acne wash to wash it off, and after I get out of the shower and towel off, I use the Clinique moisturizer to moisturize and control the oil. I've included pictures just in case.

Abeg o, no vex for this stupid question. Don't the ultrasound technician show the parents the genitals of the baby while they're are doing the ultrasound? Cos, I was able to see the genitals right in front of me while the sonographer was doing her thing o, she pointed out the genitals clear as day, gave us color pictures where you can clearly see the genitals and I even made videos. So, unless the thing change overnight (divine intervention, lol), I'm confused and scared of this gender change thing.

I don't sugary things at all but i think i lots of rice. And my mum just sent me a bucket of starch, as per isoko woman. I've only eaten it twice sha. Maybe i'll just dash it out
Your baby is within normal limits from what I have read. But you can also cut the carbs, and eat more proteins and veggies. Like you, I like rice a lot, but I am also petty about my weight. So I adjusted my food intake. I now eat a lot of beans (and beans product), broccoli, spinach, non-fat yogurt, low sugar cereal, fruits. I substituted those our normal parboiled rice for white rice and quinoa, and also subtituted amala, eba, pounded yam and all our naija swallow for oatmeal (trust me, it tastes good cheesy). Lastly, trick your body and mind into eating smaller portions by using a small bowl to eat.

I was very happy with my weight yesterday when I stepped on the scale at the doctor's office. Gained just 1.5kg in 4 weeks

Your Nigerian drivers license.
A lot of states do not allow you to drive with an out-of-country license and the guys at the front office of the rental car agency do not know better. It's better to go to the DMV and confirm before renting a car as that could lead to a lot of troubles.
Travel › Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 4 by MamaOO: 10:01pm On Apr 18, 2016
For everybody thinking about renting a car in the US. It is actually a very good idea and cost saving too. But please read up on the state driving laws before picking up that rental car. State laws differ greatly from state to state. Some state allow you to use your home country license for a month, some want an international license and some flat out will not allow you drive without a state issued DL.

Most of those officers at the rental agencies (especially those at the front desk) almost don't have an idea of those rules. Also, if you rent a car, please, please, please, purchase an insurance with it. Those things will save a lot of trouble, especially since you don't have vehicle insurance on any car here. And please, familiarize yourself with GPS, traffic rules(read the book if possible) and traffic lights. I swear, the way the traffic lights in some states are structured confuses me as well.

Health › Re: Trying To Conceive A Child? TTC by MamaOO:
sorry to barge in like this, but i'm just saddened by the insensitivity of people (especially Nigerians) to other people's plight. I have discussed this issue with one of my best friends, who happens to be TTC for close to two years now how people just open their mouth wide and let forth rude and hurtful words.

My advise.. give anybody that asks stupid questions stupid answers. If they are rude to you, be rude to them as well. No need keeping mum and letting anybody inflict more pain on you. If you give them stupid and rude answers, they will know not to cross their boundaries again.

I have done this with one woman before. This woman lives in DH's city cos I used to live in another state. When I moved to be with him and they introduced me to this woman, she was so nice and jovial. At that point, we were not trying to have a baby so we were actually protecting. But this woman will see me anywhere and be like "Eyyy, you're not pregnant?" or be like "I want to see belle inside you when next I see you oo" It got me thinking and I actually told my DH and my TTC friend how she's getting on my nerves and I will insult her one day. Like this woman does not even know if I am having trouble conceiving, you will just be rubbing it in my face all the time. What if I was actually having problems, wont I break down and cry one day in her presence and embarrass myself?

Fast forward to when I was actually pregnant, January this year. I went to a gas station to get gas at night, saw this woman.... you know what she did? She actually grabbed me and was touching my belly saying "Ha, Iyawo! No belle again? Its the new year oo. I thought you should have been pregnant by now?" I was so mad and angry. What's your own ma? Why are you crying more than the bereaved? We are not even related so how does it affect you if I am yet to get pregnant or not? I went home and told DH. Few days later, DH's goddaughter was having a birthday and she was invited. I refused to greet her or grant her audience. She kept her distance from me. But this idiot still went ahead and said to DH "I can bet my life on it, your wife is pregnant" DH had to tell her yes, she is indeed pregnant. Da Fvck? shocked angry Which kain monitoring spirit be this na? I was actually pissed at DH for telling her in the affirmative that I was pregnant. She be witch? But that one was like "They don't hide pregnancy na. It will show one day. So why lie?" I just hissed.

I resolved to stay far away from her and shun her at all opportunity I get. The last time we went someplace I knew she was gonna be, I just locked my face up, I was 4 months gone then. She started shinning teeth when she saw me coming, but when she saw my countenance she recoiled and avoided me throughout that day.

Give anybody that ask you foolish questions or rub it in your face that you still are yet to get pregnant, the foolish treatment and they will never cross your path again. I know my TTC friend's struggle. I never rub my pregnancy in her face and I never probe her. We make jokes out of it and I even encourage her to research and offer my own suggestions not mock her. God will give you all double for your trouble and shame all your adversaries. It is well with your souls

Anyone checked their LOs gender yet? Im hoping to check at my next ANC...hopefully Ayomide will cooperate. grin

Application forms still available to join team September for supernatural delivery.
Welldone captain. 2nd trimester here, almost 20 weeks but no bump o cry undecided My stomach just looks like I over-ate or rather like I have a belly pooch. I for use the bump coop special privileges.... but for where? E no gree show up o.Lol

I did the gender check at 16 weeks and I have been buying stuff like crazy. It does not help that all the babies and children stores always have sales angry. Well, I have repented from buying any more baby clothes. I have started buying other stuffs now before baby clothes start chasing me out of the house. grin grin Have a stress free pregnancy

did you said the WOMEN in your household are blood sucking parasite? lipsrsealed

you really come from a poor background!

sorry!
Lmao. I must have struck a nerve. Unlike you, I do not hide behind a cheap phone and insult women (or men) over the Internet. When you point a finger in insult to someone, the remaining 4 points back at you. Go figure!

PS: I didn't know your Dad was Dangote. What has family background gotten to do with my reply to you? cheesy lmbo. Someone is grappling at straws. Continue cheesy cheesy

Edit: I read how you're busy going up and down saying you studied abroad and all that nonsense and I can't but laugh. If you indeed studied abroad, you won't need much validation and definitely won't be throwing it out here on Nairaland. You have a serious case of complex. grin
