Gov. Umahi Condemns Killing Of Youths By Suspected Ebubeagu Members In Ebonyi (Photos) | #IgbereTV ... Says Perpetrators Of The Dastardly Act Will Face The Full Wrath Of The Law Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State has condemned the recent hostility in Akaeze, Ivo Local Government Area which has led to loss of lives, Igbere TV reports. Governor Umahi condemned the incident when he paid an on-the-spot visit to Akaeze to assess the level of carnage as a result of the violence on Monday. Governor Umahi frowned at the needles burning of the Akaeze Police Station and property of the Chairman of Ivo Local Government Area as well as a Development Centre Coordinator by the irate youths. He directed the prompt arrest of those involved in the dastardly act captured in the video which has been circulating on the social media where ax-wielding persons were seen using the weapon on a human being to underscore the sanctity of human lives. "I feel so sad over the couple of incidences that happened in this place. In the first place, I condemn the viral video that was making round where somebody was using an axe on a fellow human being, my position is that life is sacred and all those people that did that, whether they are in Government, whether they are Ebubeagu, whether they are stakeholders must be prosecuted immediately. "There is no reason in this matter that should warrant anybody to take law into their hands, at the end of time we are going to be accountable to God. “It is important to note that Ebubeagu is a security outfit backed by law and it will not be disbanded but any Ebubeagu member that violates the law will go in for it. "The law on Ebubeagu is very clear, just like there are bad elements in other security forces and within the society, there may be bad eggs in Ebubeagu but my position is that the bad eggs in Ebubeagu must be identified and removed. Ebubeagu is doing very beautiful work, they are helping the police, they are helping the Army, but we have a procedure, when you have the right within the limit of the law to arrest people, you have to hand them over to the Police immediately and it stops there, you are not even permitted to torture them not to talk of killing them but you have the right of self-defense and the evidence must be there and overwhelmingly and so what happened here did not make me happy. "Two wrongs must never make a right, the seven people that masterminded this must be arrested and prosecuted, I am not the Governor of one Party, I am the Governor of all parties, and most importantly I am accountable to God." While directing the demobilization of all gun-carrying non-security persons in the area, Governor Umahi also called for a step-up in security presence and surveillance to avert reoccurrence. He called on Ebonyi Youths to shun involvement in criminalities and embrace peace for orderliness in the society. "Let me warn all the youth to be very careful about taking laws into their hands, if they commit a murder case and it is before me, I will sign their execution." The Officer-in-charge of Akaeze Police Station, ASP John Okereke while narrating the event of the burning down of the Police Station, said some of the perpetrators are heart-hardened criminals who already had cases in the Station. Speaking on behalf of the FCT Minister, Olusade emphasised that the partnership hosting of the Zuma Film Festival will boost the tourism as well as entertainment potentials of the Nation's capital. He said ; "The creative industry is a significant component of our economy. In 2020 statistics has it that the creative industry contributed 730 Billion naira to the Nigerian GDP this is equivalent to about 1.8 Billion US Dollars. If you consider this contribution of this creative industry alone ; you know its significance. Because we have been planning this for a very long time. "On the assumption of President Buahri in office, he assigned MDA's with priorities and mandates that must be achieved. Included in their mandate is the need to improve or initiate strong partnership with the private sector for massive creation of employment. "The Federal Government can't employ everyone but one way to achieve this is through a partnership that works like what we are witnessing today. Besides revenue generation there are other beneficial areas of this partnership which are immense, during the week of this Festival crime rates will reduce because a lot of youths will be engaged . Also speaking on Funding of the Festival Olusade mentioned that the funding for the Festival has been included in the FCTA's 2022 budget. In his address Dr. Chidia highlighted reasons behind the collaboration saying that it will shape the creative economic activities within the nation’s capital, Abuja, and the country at large. According to Chidia, the collaboration which was first proposed by the NFC in 2019 is expected to generate $5 million (₦2.5 billion) in direct revenue from merchandising, in addition to tax revenue in excess of $2 million (₦1 billion). He added that the revenues can be achieved through interest and traffic generation for increased film production shoot within the FCT. The NFC Boss also announced that the 2021 ZUMA Film Festival, earlier scheduled to hold between 1st – 7th December, 2021 has been shifted to 2nd – 9th April, 2022. "It has long been our desire for NFC, in line with our aspiration to use the Zuma film festival to galvanize the creative sector of the nation’s economy. Also, it is predicated on our patriotic commitment to situate Abuja (Centre of Unity) and Nigeria within the comity of film production cities/ nations. "Today’s designation of Abuja as the official host city of Nigeria’s official and foremost film festival is in line with best global practices. We have once more demonstrated our collective will as a government to sustain the much needed synergy in efforts and actions, Chidia said. He emphasised that the journey of the Zuma film festival since its debut, and a total rebrand has been steady and progressive. Maduekwe said the aim of NFC since he assumed office to ensure sustained improvement has seen the film festival grow in content and participation. He pointed out that domestic and foreign participation, physical and virtual, including the volume of collaborative partnerships have equally increased over time. Shedding more light on the benefits of the partnership deal, Chidia expressed it will bring Zuma Film Festival deeper into the global film festival platform of the INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF FILM PRODUCERS ASSOCIATIONS (FIAPF), a global organization representing the film production community, and key operator for film festival worldwide. He said the Zuma Film Festival has continued to attract more domestic and international attention and attendance. The NFC Boss urged other government agencies and parastatals to join the Nigerian Film Corporation to progress. According to hin in the nearest future city of Abuja can be comparable with cities like Los Angeles – California and Asian Tiger cities and Durban in South Africa. In area of Job creation Chidia unveiled the plans of the NFC to escalate the conversation of establishing a film entrepreneurial hub in FCT. "This entrepreneurial hub when established will train over 2000 youths on quarterly basis from the FCT in film business and entrepreneurship with direct positive impact on youth unemployment. "ZUMA film festival creates direct and auxiliary jobs within the period it is held annually. One of its major outcome and output is in supporting federal governments’ policy of creating jobs to lift over 100 million Nigerians out of poverty. This joint collaboration therefore can be viewed as further stimulating economic growth by contributing to job creation and poverty reduction. In his concluding remarks Dr. Chidia thanked the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Alhaji Mohammed Musa Bello , Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu for considering and accepting the invitation for the partnership, and the formal designation of ABUJA as the official host city for Zuma Film Festival. Nigerian Army Cries Out, Accuses Police Of Killing & Brutalizing Its Members | #IgbereTV The Nigerian army has cried out over alleged killing and assault on its personnel by officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Igbere TV reports. In a letter dated November 23, 2021 and seen by IGBERE TV which was shared to all formations and units, the Chief of Army Staff called on its officers to “forward all recorded incidence of police brutality against personnel of the Nigerian Army.” IGBERE TV reports that Police brutality is common in Nigeria and was responsible for the #EndSARS protest in Nigeria last 2020. The letter was signed by Major General J. A. Ataguba titled, ‘Evaluating Incidences Of Police Brutality Against Personnel Of Nigerian Army.’ Through the letter, the army also mandated its personal to evaluate and present evidence surrounding the circumstances and draw conclusions as to the validity of the complaints raised. The letter read, “The NA is constitutionally tasked to provide aid to civil authorities when called upon. This responsibility has occasioned conducting joint activities with members of the civil and paramilitary organizations. These joint operations with other security agencies particularly the Nigerian Police (NP) create occasions for the police to equate its hierarchy with the NA and this has often led to friction, especially at the lower levels. “This friction has occasionally led to bodily harm and in some cases death to our troops. This is in spite of the fact that the victims have been identified and established to be serving personnel. “This Dept is therefore conducting an evaluation of these occurrences with a view to establishing the frequency and recommend possible remedial measures to stem the tide. Consequently, all NA corps, formations and establishments are please requested to forward all recorded incidence of police brutality against personnel of the NA. “The report should cover the last 2 years. Exposing The Youths To Leadership : The Umahi’s Example One of the most quoted lines is, "The youths are the leaders of tomorrow". Many people have questions about that assertion owing to the bleak future faced by the youths. If the youths are truly the leaders of tomorrow and not rhetoric leaders, leaders in every aspect of life have the duty to make conscious efforts to actualize this. The future holds dreams and promises for the youths. This can be achieved through dedication, perseverance, hard work, proper education, and words of wisdom. Youths do not grow in isolation but by following paths laid down by their elders: parents, guardians, teachers, leaders, etc. It is imperative to note that a flower that is not properly tendered while growing, is bound to grow wild. The resultant effect is that rather than beautifying the environment, it will constitute nuisance to people. Thus, when the youths are overlooked and abandoned, they often become the antithesis of what society expects them to be and become an anathema. The advice of the elders, policies of the government, acts of omission, and commission by the youth go a long way to stimulate in the youth the need to dream big and achieve their dreams. The transitional age between youth and adulthood is the most challenging especially to the government. The values and morals instilled in them go a long way in determining what most of them will become in the future. They are either motivated to succeed or perish in their ignorance. According to Benjamin Disraeli, "the youths of a nation are the trustees of posterity". How do you then entrust the posterity of a nation to a disgruntled or disorganized group of people? This is where wisdom on the part of the leaders comes to play. And Gov. Umahi rose (and he is still rising) to the challenge by: 1. APPOINTMENT OF YOUTHS INTO HIS CABINET Before the coming of Engr. Umahi as the Governor of Ebonyi State, the stories of the youths in the state were that of thuggery, extortion, school dropouts, gatekeepers, house-made, people with no academic and leadership future. Wherever robbery or other vices are mentioned, people are quick to allege that such were perpetrated by the teeming Ebonyi youth scattered at every busy corner of the 36 states and Abuja. Upon his takeover of the reigns of government in Ebonyi, Gov. Umahi constituted his cabinet made up of a greater percentage of youths. While some served as Commissioners, a large majority served as Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, Executive Assistants, Senior Technical Assistants, Technical Assistants, etc. Others were appointed to boards and parastatals. To show his love for the youth population of Ebonyi State, most of the Development Centres Coordinators are youths 2. ESTABLISHING THE KING DAVID GIFTED ACADEMY The Bible admonished that children should be trained well so that when they grow up, they will not depart from that good path. It is therefore a clarion call to every leader to put in place, policies and programs that would direct the attention of the young ones away from the vices in the society. It was the Greek philosopher, Diogenes who said: "The foundation of every state is the education of its youth". Gov. Umahi having witnessed the stereotyping of Ebonyi people as semi-humans and using other derogatory adjectives to describe them, decided to bring succor to parents whose wards are divinely gifted but could not afford the cost of quality secondary education. The idea for the King David Gifted Academy is to raise brilliant kids who would become future leaders in every sense of it. Thus, Ebonyi is aspiring to recreate Bennet Omalu, Philip Emeagwali, Albert Einstein, Galileo Galilei, Isaac Newton, Chinua Achebe, Nnamdi Azikiwe, etc 3. YOUTH EMPOWERMENT Outside the appointment of Ebonyi youths into political positions, Gov. Umahi had empowered 520 Ebonyians, hawking in the streets of Lagos, empowered hundreds of people with tricycles, empowered the Widows and civil servants with a large sum of money, and On July 29, 2021, forty (40) Ebonyi youths were made millionaires with some of them going home with 5m while others went home with 1.5m. This is outside other forms of empowerment like gifting of cars, farm inputs, etc. During the handover of the cheques to the beneficiaries, Umahi said: "We are doing everything possible to see how we can get our people to do something with their hands. That is the only way that this state can grow. It can only grow with all of us committing ourselves to work hard and then getting small businesses, and then, we can employ others". When most Governors and leaders in Nigeria were unaware of step(s) to take after the #EndSARS protest that rocked the foundations of the country, Gov. Umahi was the first to convoke a youth summit. During the summit, he launched an N3billion Youth Empowerment Programme. Pragmatic leaders are proactive, and Umahi has proved that he is ahead of his mates. 4. GRANTING OF SOFT LOANS TO YOUTHS FOR AGRICULTURAL PURPOSES Agriculture has become the bedrock of many societies in this 21st century. Gone are the days when farmers are regarded as poor, and farming left in the hands of the elderly. Mechanized farming has ensured that any human can invest in agriculture irrespective of age. However, the bottleneck has always been the non-availability of start-up funds. Gov. Umahi has made it clear from the outset, that he would like every Ebonyi youth to be engaged in one job, career, or business. He understood that when they are engaged, they will not be enticed to go into any form of crime but would help to safeguard the state. Furthermore, it would ensure that there is food sufficiency in the State. He has matched his talk with actions through the provision of soft loans for Ebonyi youths who are interested in agriculture. 5. NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH/EBUBE-AGU REGIONAL SECURITY That Ebonyi is one of the safest states in the country is not by default. A price was paid, and gain made. Before the constituting of the regional security, Ebube-Agu Security Network, Gov. Umahi had constituted the vigilance group, the Neighbourhood Watch to provide security for the state. Gov. Umahi provided an avenue for a symbiotic relationship between his administration and the youth through security. Whereas the youths help in providing security, the government in return pays them for their efforts. By dint of conscious efforts, Gov. Umahi has become the greatest youth-friendly Governor among his contemporaries. This has in no small way ensured that idle minds that would have been used to foment troubles are properly engaged. Dr. Godwin Maduka Visits FREE Hospital Built and Donated by Him to the Church | #IgbereTV ...Renders financial support to patients. …Reiterates that no patient should pay a dime for treatment in the hospital. Dr. Godwin Maduka has visited Trinitas Hospital, Umuchukwu; the hospital he built, equipped to the full and donated to the Catholic Diocese of Ekwulobia to oversee its affairs. This is his usual way of routinely visiting the hospital. He made a stop from ward to ward, discussed with the patients and supported them with funds for their feedings and upkeep while they recuperate. Note that since the inception of Trinitas Hospital, Umuchukwu, the hospital was made free to all the people, nobody had been charged any kobo for hospital treatment. Dr Maduka on his own provides funds for defraying of patients hospital bills as well as adequate funds with which the hospital functions. On the sidelines were the affected patients who could not hold their excitements as they shed tears of joy, prayed to God to protect, bless and sustain Dr Maduka. https://igberetvnews.com/1403628/dr-godwin-maduka-visits-free-hospital-built-donated-church/

The quest for survival is as old as man. The first man, Adam, wandered around to find a safe place after being sent out of the Garden of Eden. His offspring from Cain, Abel, Seth downwards had to wander around to find a place to eke out their livings. But one thing was certain: they did not lose hope. Nigeria is occupied by different ethnic nationalities. But out of them, there exist three major ones: Igbo, Hausa, and the Yoruba. The agitations for state creation were the fallout of ethnic minorities who rightly felt that the major groups were dominating them politically, hence the need to challenge the hegemony of these major ethnic groups. The agitations yielded results when in 1963, the first state, the Mid-West region, was carved out of the then western region. Since then, many states have been created, mostly to assuage the fears of the minorities. Nigeria state is currently having 36 states, with Ebonyi and the other five states being the last to be created in 1996 by the then military regime of Gen. Sani Abacha. Umahi The founding fathers of Ebonyi were compelled to agitate for a state of their own after years of neglect by the former states they belonged to. From the old Imo to Abia states, on one hand, Anambra to Enugu states on the other, the story is the same. The evidence of this neglect became glaring after Ebonyi was created as there was a dearth of infrastructure and other developmental indices making people deride Abakaliki, a supposedly zonal headquarters, to be called the "Dust Capital of Nigeria". Ebonyi State is pluralistic with people having differing traditions, dialects and to some extent, socio-economic and political views. These differences are shaped owing to the background of the people who currently occupy the space known as Ebonyi. It is important to state that while some parts of Ebonyi were carved out of Abia in 1991, after many years of stay in Imo state, the other parts came from Enugu, with an equal number of years in the old Anambra. What is unique is that irrespective of the glaring differences, the founding fathers of Ebonyi believed that they are surmountable. The people of Ebonyi, the founding fathers and residents thus prayed for a miracle. Although the governments of the first Military Administrator of the young state, Walter Feghabor, and his successor, Simeon Oduoye made efforts to develop the State but their best was like pouring a gallon of water in the desert as there are so much work to be done. The state was still dusty and infrastructurally deficient. At the dawn of the democratic era in 1999, again Ebonyians prayed for miracles. The election of the first civilian Governor of Ebonyi State, Dr. Sam Egwu, was received with the highest joy. Ebonyians believed that their messiah had come. But as the administration was winding down in 2007, they were so much work to be done as not enough was achieved. Thus, when the octogenarian, Chief Martin Elechi was elected in 2007. He did his best but so much was left undone. For these 16 years, Abakaliki the State capital, and many parts of the state was still wearing the rustic looks to the disappointment of many. By the time that electioneering campaigns began in 2015, many Ebonyians were already apathetic to politics, especially at the gubernatorial level. However, the founding fathers of the state that we're alive and others who still believe that God can bless Ebonyi State with a good leader stood their ground that Ebonyi must be great again. When Gov. David Nweze Umahi was inaugurated in May 2015, only a few of the people were optimistic that he would succeed. And truly, they were not to be blamed based on their past experiences. But being a man who likes the biblical King David, commits whatever he sets out to do, Akubaraoha was unwavering as he knew what he wanted to do for Ebonyians, his people. Suffice it to say that when Gov. Umahi announced that he would be building an international market, shopping mall, and the Christian Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki, many pessimists had laughed him to scorn. They dismissed it as the dreams of an infant governor who wants to curry the love of the people. When he further announced that he would be building flyovers in Ebonyi, a new medical university and an airport of international standard, the scorn became transformed to ridicule at every opportunity and social event. These pessimists called him the "magician of Ebonyi" because they believed that it is only by magic that these gigantic projects could be carried out. The sad reality to the decadent opinions of pessimists is that they do not believe in themselves or become sober and apologetic when their evil thoughts are dashed. Even when the flyovers started coming up one after another, they were still telling themselves that they were mere bridges. And one is compelled to ask if they are deaf, are they blind too as not to know the difference between flyovers and bridges? Today, Ebonyi state stands out among the six states that were created in 1996 in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other indices of development. And the credit goes to the Almighty God first, and afterward to Engr. David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE whose great ideas have transformed the once "Dust Capital of Nigeria" to the "Dubai of Nigeria". The dreams of the founding fathers of Ebonyi who saw the need for a new state as a conveyor belt of development have been made alive. As Ebonyi State marks the 25 years of its creation today, the living founding fathers will be gleefully moving from ears to ears and rejoicing that they are alive to witness the Ebonyi of their dreams, while the dead will be dancing that their efforts were not in vain. Ebonyi State is now working. Independence Day : Full Address Of Governor Umahi | #IgbereTV ADDRESS OF HIS EXCELLENCY, ENGR . CHIEF DAVID NWEZE UMAHI, FNSE, FNATE (AKUBARAOHA) GOVERNOR OF EBONYI STATE TO MARK THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CREATION OF EBONYI STATE, DATED 1ST OCTOBER, 2021 1. My good people of Ebonyi State, I am delighted to congratulate and transmit my best wishes to all the sons and daughters of the State both at home and in diaspora on this historic 25th anniversary of Ebonyi State and 61 years of Independence of Nigeria. 2. 1st October 2021 marks an important milestone in our march towards the attainment of the aspirations of the founding fathers who fought for the creation of Ebonyi State and those who fought for the Independence of Nigeria. While we thank profoundly the founding fathers of our nation, we pay special tribute to the vision, courage, and boundless energy of our founding fathers who created the road map towards the statehood that was granted to us on 1st October 1996 by the former Head of State, General Sani Abacha (may his soul find repose in the Lord, amen). 3. As we commend the efforts of our founding fathers, we thank immensely our past leaders especially the Governors under the Military administrations of Navy Commander Walter Faghabo and AIG Simeon Oduoye (of blessed memory) and the democratically elected administrations of Dr. Sam O. Egwu CON and Chief Martin Nwanchor Elechi MFR, CON for their accomplishments that laid the foundation for the progress we have made in the last 6 years and for this we have great testimonies to share as we mark our Silver Jubilee. We can say of a truth that the Silver Jubilee of Ebonyi State is coming at a time tremendous efforts have been made to attain a state of the dreams and aspirations of the founding fathers. 4. Conscious of the promise we made to our people, our Divine Mandate administration has worked hard to resonate our promises in life-changing projects and programmes for the future of our state, including endearing infrastructure for economic development, access to first-class education, affordable health care services, agricultural revolution, efficient and effective public service and human capital that will transform our economy and bequeath to posterity a grater Ebonyi State. 5. Although our nation has been going through challenges especially the scourge of insecurity that has eaten deep into the fabrics of our economy, we have spared no efforts in rising to the challenge of building firmly and decisively on the achievements made in the last 6 years. We are focused on building an economy driven primarily by the private sector, not the government. We are deepening the tenets of democracy and the rule of law, we are leading by example in our fight against corruption and waste. We are restructuring the public service and body politic to ensure efficiency and good governance. We are committed to the goal of national integration. We are committed to restoring our time-honored value of hard work, honesty, decency, generosity, dignity of labour, transparency, and accountability. I commit myself to this task. We commend the manifest sacrifice made by all government functionaries at different levels of governance in the state and the patience exercised by our people as we strive to give our state a new face in the comity of states. 6. As a state that is anchored on the Divine Mandate platform, we believe that our efforts to solve the socio-economic problems of the state cannot be complete without connecting to God through prayers. We believe that we can only surmount the challenges of insecurity, the scourge of Covid-19, economic recession, political dichotomy, and other dangerous trends of agitations in Nigeria if we demonstrate a deep sense of patriotism and fear of God in all our dealings. 11. I will continue to be grateful to God for His grace that has led us thus far. My special appreciation goes to my Deputy, the Executive Council members, and all those who worked with me to achieve the result we now celebrate. Let me acknowledge with the deepest appreciation, the State House of Assembly especially the Speaker and the Honourable members who have put in their best to legislatively steer the ship of the state.
