Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta on Wednesday congratulated comedian, Atunyota Akporobomerere, aka, Alibaba, on his Presidential Award of Excellence at the second National Micro Small and Medium Enterprise Awards.

News Agency of Nigeria recalls that the award ceremony was hosted by Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, at the Banquet Hall, Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

Okowa’s felicitation was conveyed in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika in Asaba.

The governor described the comedian, popularly known as Alibaba, as a quintessential comedian whose contributions to the development of entertainment industry in Nigeria would remain indelible.

He lauded the humour merchant for his outstanding patriotism, humility, mentorship, support for budding talents and as a good ambassador of Delta.

As a state, we are particularly proud of your numerous ‘firsts’ – first Nigerian comedian to perform on commercial flights, first to entertain over 40 heads of governments, first comedian to ring the closing bell of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

You are also first comedian on CNN, BBC and Al Jazeera, first to be inaugurated into the Johnnie Walker Hall of fame and first to stage a 6-hour stand-up comedy performance, among many other laudable accomplishments,” Okowa said.

He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for finding an eminent son of Delta, AliBaba, worthy of the honour.

Politics / No Nigeria Seaport Designed For Oil And Gas Monopoly "Shippers’ Council Boss" by Maniagist: 7:59am On Aug 07, 2019
THE Federal Government has warned that it would not tolerate tendencies that seek to promote oil and gas monopoly in operations of Nigeria seaport system.

Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, Barr.

Hassan Bello dropped this hint during the second Transport Leadership Lecture organized by Kings Communications, publishers of MMS Plus Newspaper, held at the Golden Gate Restaurant, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Bello explained that the Council will not, under any guise, support such monopoly as it was not known to the ports concession agreement. He stated:

What we did was equilibrium, we need fair playing field for everybody and that was why the Shippers’ Council was the first to oppose the so-called oil and gas monopoly in some ports.

We said that oil and gas cargo is not known to concession agreement and that was why we called for an opening of this concession agreement.

I am aware that concession agreement is being renegotiated but it can never be a close thing. The concession agreement is for Nigerians, we have to participate in that, otherwise, it will still be the one-sided thing we have seen.

He enjoined operators in the maritime industry to abhor sentiment in their assessment of government performances and to eschew divisive and selfish interests as a way of deepening capacity and achieving ports trade competitiveness at the regional, continental and global space.

Though Bello faulted private operators’ claims that government and its agencies at the port and transport sector generally have failed across the board, he, however, conceded that not all government policy actions have had positive effects on the industry.

Crime / Police Stop Athletes’ Training, Arrest Journalist In Kwara, C’rive by Maniagist: 7:56am On Aug 06, 2019
Police yesterday stormed the Kwara State Stadium Complex in Ilorin to disperse athletes training. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ajayi Okasanmi, said the action was a proactive measure against breakdown of law expected due to the #RevolutionNow protest.

The police also arrested and kept incommunicado the Cross River State correspondent of The Nation newspaper, Mr. Nicholas Kalu, for covering the RevolutionNow protest in Calabar. Sporting activities in the stadium complex, located in the Ilorin metropolis, were disrupted as the law enforcement agents turned back athletes who had arrived the stadium for training.

Many of the athletes, who were stranded around the stadium gate on the popular Ibrahim Taiwo Road, wondered why sportsmen and women would be denied access to facilities in the stadium for training.

It was learnt that the police were ordered to block the stadium gate over the speculation that the facility had been picked as meeting point for the RevolutionNow rally organised by the presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 general election, Omoyele Sowore.

The PPRO, Okasanmi, said that the presence of policemen at the stadium was to prevent chaos. He said: “Kwara State is largely recognised as a state of harmony and Ilorin is reputed to be peaceful. We owe our law-abiding people the duty to sustain that.

More so, we had to prevent the planned protest from being hijacked by hoodlums in order not to lead to any dangerous dimension.

Politics / It Is No Longer Conjectural, Nigeria Is At War. 'A Good Nigerian Revealed' by Maniagist: 6:59am On Aug 06, 2019
IT is no longer conjectural, Nigeria is at war. In July 2019 alone, some 282 of our citizens were gunned down or violently killed.

If they are not killed by marauding herdsmen, bandits and kidnappers, they are killed by security agents. (revolution) protesters at the national stadium the venue of the protest in Lagos,

The nation is no longer at ease. No one is abstracted from the on-going carnage. In July, the largest casualties were from the homestead of the president in Katsina: 80 persons were reportedly kllled there in July, with Borno coming a close second with 75 dead,

Foreign governments are warning their citizens that Nigeria is now a no-go country. Those who want to do business in Anglophone West Africa now seek refuge in Ghana as opposed to Nigeria. Omoyele Sowore is one of those Nigerian idealists tired of watching the country go to the dogs from the sideline,

He decided to jump into the fray. He registered a political party and contested for the presidency. But he, and others like him were shut out by what has turned out to be disputed election. So he opted for another gambit,

He called for a revolution and fixed a date. He asked Nigerians to come out in numbers to demand a change in the status quo. But he was either unserious or just plain naiive. You don’t invite people to a revolution. You don’t schedule a revolution on television and on social media,

The powers-that-be will not siddon look. On the eve of his “revolution,” the DSS invaded his home and picked him up. He became yet another Nigerian citizen who will be locked up without legal reprieve.
