A 46-year-old Nigerian businessman, Pius Ezekwem, has been killed in South Africa’s eastern cape province, allegedly by a group of eight policemen who interrogated him at his home at the weekend.

The deceased, who ran a chain of bed and breakfast guest houses, was picked up at a Nigerian eatery and was forcefully taken to his home for a search and interrogation.

An argument between Pius and the South African police officers degenerated so fast that a gun shot was fired, leading to Pius' death. Pius was married to a South African who was present at the scene of the incident.

He reportedly asked the policemen to kill him in his house as he would not follow them to where they wanted to take him to. Sadly, the policemen allegedly killed him in the presence of his family.

All phones were seized except that of Pius' sister in-law who recorded his altercation with the police.

Confirming the incident, the Nigerian Ambassador to South Africa, Godwin Adama, said a formal report has been launched to the South African police on the incident

The founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Chief Afe Babalola, on Tuesday blamed Africa’s woes on a lack of transformational leadership.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria spoke in Ado Ekiti after he was conferred with the African Role Model and the African Union Agenda 2063 Ambassador awards by the African Union Economic Socio Cultural Council.

Babalola said, “It is a tragedy that Africa today is bereft of transformational leaders such as Mahatma Ghandi, Kwame Nkrumah, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, Ahmadu Bello and Nelson Mandela. For Africa to move forward, we need transformational leaders.

The 1999 Constitution is, in large measure, responsible for the problems we have in Nigeria today. The constitution has discouraged and crippled development in the states. Consequently, Nigeria remains a poor country like most African countries.

What Nigeria needs is a bill sponsored by the government, asking the Senate to pass a law for the convocation of a Sovereign National Conference that the membership will be elected on zero party system.

It is only through a true federal constitution that transformational leaders can emerge and a true Nigeria nation can emerge from over the 300 nations in the country.

Africa needs leaders who can transform the continent. The renaissance has started in ABUAD. We have succeeded in nine years to transform education in the country.

The Alafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, praised Babalola for making the country proud.

The leader of the AU team, Dr Tunji Ashaolu, said the awards were in recognition of the veteran lawyer’s contribution to the AU agenda in the area of education and other sectors of the economy.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari rejoiced with Babalola, over the African Role Model AU Agenda 2063 Ambassadorial Award.

Buhari said Babalola’s large-heartedness and love for humanity won him the honour.

His message of felicitations was contained in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu.

It said, “The President rejoices with the renowned philanthropist on the global recognition for his efforts to uplift many out of poverty through employment, scholarship, training, healthcare and coaching on entrepreneurship.

President Buhari believes Aare Babalola’s large-heartedness and love for humanity sets him apart for recognition at home and abroad.

The immediate-past Minister of Communication, Mr. Adebayo Shittu, said he was shocked when his name was not included on the ministerial list.

Shittu, who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja, said although he did not expect that he would not be reappointed, as a Muslim, he took it as his fate.

The ex-minister said, “I took it the way it came.”

NAN reports that Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, had, on July 23, read out the names of 43 ministerial nominees sent by President Buhari to the lawmakers for confirmation at the upper house.

While the list contained 14 former ministers, 29 new names and seven females, 18 ex-ministers did not make the list, including Mr Shittu.

Of course, I expected that I will be reappointed, but when it didn’t happen, as a Muslim, it didn’t take me five minutes before I accepted that it was the will of God.

And I have also found comfort in a Quranic verse when God promised that what is to come later is better than what is with you now.

So, for me, it says we must accept that there is always something better with God, which he gives to his beloved. I see myself as a beloved of God.

I have come a long way and I have served at the state and national levels and the experience that I have garnered over the last three and a half years cannot be purchased from the stores or from the market,” he said.

He said as public officer, one must always have it in one’s mind that “whatever has a beginning will necessarily have an end.”

And it is not how long one stays in public office but how well you are able to distinguished yourself,” he said.

The ex-minister, who is a legal practitioner, said he had decided to return to his profession.

I want to thank God that I am one politician who has a second address in the sense that, if I am not a minister, I will be doing some other productive things which will also contribute to national development.

Of course, I would have wished that I had another opportunity to serve. I believe the chapter of my public service is not closed.

By the grace of God, I will continue to be relevant in national development.

“As a lawyer of about 40 years, I now have my chambers opened in Abuja. So now, I am back in practice,” he said.

The former minister, who skipped the mandatory National Youth Service, had aspired for the governorship seat of Oyo State in the last election but was disqualified by his party, the All Progressives Congress.

The case of 78 Nigerian-born men who were Eindicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation mid last week has led to angry debates and taking sides among Nigerians on the social media.

It may be recalled that Igbo names featured prominently on the FBI charge sheet relating the criminal activities of some 80 persons indicted in one of the massive Internet scams in American history.

Since the documents were declassified in the US and published globally, including in Nigeria, there have been all sorts of reactions to the issue.

The table turned on Sunday morning as an April 2019 list of convicted drug dealers resurfaced in the media.

The four-month-old report had revealed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was set to execute 23 Nigerians who were arrested for drug offences as far back as 2017.

While the names on the FBI list were mostly Igbo, those on the Saudi list were mostly Yoruba, with a sprinkle of wholly Muslim names which some suspected to be Hausa.

Consequently, as the hashtag #IgboYahooBoys trended last week, #YorubaDrugDealers took the centre stage on Sunday.

An Ivorian pastor has declared that God has appointed him to resurrect deceased Ivorian DJ and Singer, DJ Arafat.

According to the pastor identified as Koffi Duchrist, he can resurrect DJ Arafat but on the condition that he gets permission from the biological family of Arafat and Minister Hameb Bakayoko, who is Arafat’s godfather.

He added that some forces in the music industry who don’t want DJ Arafat to be resurrected but God has declared and he will revive him.

God told me to do this live and wait for a period of 5 days, that is to say by Friday at the latest, that I get in touch with the family of Dj Arafat.

If the family of Dj Arafat calls me at once I will leave and whatever the number of formol they put in the body of Arafat, the Lord Jesus will resurrect it.

I get the impression that there are people who do not like Arafat revive, I have the impression that there are wizards in this business, so stay calm, I’ll tell you because when God has opened a door nobody can shut it up Arafat will get up and take the microphone to sing”, Pastor Koffi Duchrist revealed

DJ Arafat originally known as Ange Didier Houon was an Ivorian DJ and music star who has several hit songs to his credit.

On 11th August, DJ Arafat was involved in a terrible motorcycle accident at Abidjan and was rushed to the hospital.

He passed away on 12th August 2019 after he suffered a skull fracture.

The National Youths Service Corps has caught two fake corps members among the current set of 2019 Batch B stream II deployed to Katsina State.

Their identities were given as Offor Chinelo Blessing with registration No. KT/19B/3696 and call-up No. NYSC /ISU/2019/260/22 purportedly from Imo State University with a fake degree in Insurance and Actuarial Science.

The other is Meaienwa Chimdinma Ngozi with registration number KT/19B/3836 and call-up No. NYSC /ISU/2019/259331 purportedly also from the same university with a B.A in Education/English language.

The state coordinator, NYSC Katsina State, Alhaji Ahidjo Yahaya, who confirmed the development on Saturday, disclosed how the fake female corps members were caught.

He said, “The two corps members were caught through a security report from the DG, NYSC, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim.

I got a security report from the DG that the two of them were carrying fake certificates. Based on that, he set out the security network to trap them.”

Yahaya added that the two corps members had allegedly confessed to committing the offence.

He added “We will like to follow due process in handling the case by arraigning them before the camp court today before they would be decamped today (Saturday.)

Veteran actress, Binta Ayo Mogaji seems to have literally shattered the table on which many of her junior colleagues are on, after her interview with TVC connect.

Binta who used to be a screen goddess during the good old days of NTA, is actually disgusted with what these new generation actresses have become.

Without mincing words, in the interview, Mrs Mogaji basically said; “The kind of actresses we have now are prostitutes but she won’t judge them because she isn’t feeding them.

And that she wouldn’t be concerned because they are not her daughters.

Furthermore, she said she won’t want that for her child, she’s not forcing anyone (ass and breast shakers) to stop, she doesn’t want it for her own child, she said”.

According to film critic, Shaibu Husseini, Mogaji has been a part of at least 800 film, television and theater productions.

In celebration of 4 year anniversary of perfume brand Sapphire Scents, owned by Wale Jana, some of its brand influencers, family and friends trooped to CommonWealth Of Zion Assembly (COZA) for the company’s thanksgiving.

Brand ambassadors who attended the event include movie star Tonto Dikeh, actor and comedian – Williams Uchemba, ex BBNaija housemate Teddy A, and fiancee Bam Bam and actress Regina Daniels. Ceec who is also an ambassador of the brand, did not attend the event.

Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of COZA was called out by Timi Dakolo’s wife Busola Dakolo, over alleged rape issues, amongst other women who also came out to share their personal experiences in June 2019.

Tonto who is also a humanitarian and someone who strongly preaches against rape, has now identified herself with COZA, thereby not practicing what she preaches. Fatoyinbo even prayed for them during the service.

This definitely did not go down well with some of her fans who have started disassociating themselves from her page already.

Tonto did not use her platform to speak against COZA pastor when the rape allegation was ongoing, probably due to her brand ambassador deal with his member Wale Jana. But in July, the mom of one personally led a protest to Apo High Court in Abuja, against one Idris Ebiloma who raped a 4 year old girl known as Khloe, urging that he be sentenced to life imprisonment. So what could this current event be telling us?

A 13-year-old schoolboy took his life after finding out the girl he has a crush on had started dating somebody else.

Harry Storey, told friends on Whatsapp that he was feeling suicidal but they thought he was joking. Later that night on March 1 his father Andrew found his body at their home in Chilton, Oxfordshire.

Mr Storey said: “I could not comprehend what I was seeing.”

He carried out CPR and when his wife walked in he shouted for her to call emergency services. Harry was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital where he died three days later.

An inquest heard yesterday that it was unlikely that Harry had intended to kill himself. The deceased’s father said: “We watched a programme where the female star had hanged herself but her friends rescued her. It made us wonder whether he had a sensationalised view of what might happen.”

Paying tribute to his son, Mr Storey said: “Harry was a charismatic, caring boy and sport was a huge part of his life, playing rugby, cricket and tennis. He would talk to anyone with ease and he had a natural ability to strike up a conversation, which I admired him for.

“He seemed to us to be just a normal teenager but he did have high expectations of himself. It came as a complete shock to me.”

Detective Sergeant Lou Heffernan-Glover said: “I think he lost consciousness unexpectedly. It could not have been predicted or prevented by his family.”

Coroner Darren Salter recorded a verdict of misadventure.

He said: “Harry did the action himself and had made comments about suicide. However teenagers do say things of that nature.

“There is an element of speculation but it seems to me that Harry did not intend it to be fatal. Therefore the conclusion is one of misadventure. Misadventure is similar to an accident, it is the deliberate undertaking of a risk that goes wrong, causing death.”

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Davido performed at the 50 Cent party alongside music heavyweights, Trey Songz, Fabulous, Snoop, Camila and Jacques.

The singer sang a medley of his popular songs and controlled the stage with 50 Cent by his side, as the crowd sang along.

Davido, who is currently on an international tour, had earlier announced the festival on Aug. 10 via his Instagram page @davidoofficial.

NAN reports that in 2015, Davido had shared a stage briefly with 50 Cent at a Las Vegas party while the latter was performing at a party.

In July, Davido became the most viewed Nigerian artist on streaming platform, YouTube.

The ‘Aye’ singer amassed over 500 million views across all his uploads on the platform to achieve this feat.

In January, Davido’s hit song, ‘Fall’ beat out Yemi Alade’s ‘Johnny’ to become the most viewed Nigerian music video on YouTube.

He then became the first Nigerian artist to reach over 100 million views on YouTube racing ahead of Yemi Alade and Tekno.

German police says nobody has been arrested in connection with the attack and humiliation of former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, at the New Yam Festival last Saturday August 17th.

Speaking in an interview with Channels tv, the press officer of Nuremberg police, Seebaurer Rainer, said

The Secretary from Nigeria came and about 30 people demonstarted against him. The police was called and they calmed the situation and the secretary or Minister whoever he was, drove away with his car and everything was over. Nobody was arrested.
