Politics › Buhari Orders Clamp Down On Illegal Arms Bearers by ManirBK(op): 7:58am On Jan 27, 2018 |
Security agents have been issued presidential order to arrest and illegal bearers of arms.
The directive was sequel to Thursday’s National Security Council meeting attended by President Muhammadu Buhari, Defence Minister Monsur Dan-Ali and the service chiefs.
Giving an update on the meeting on his Twitter handle yesterday, Buhari said his government was “stepping up our efforts to tackle the proliferation of small arms and light weapons across the country.”
“The security agencies already have standing instructions to arrest and prosecute anyone found with illegal arms,” he added. Sights of Fulani herdsmen going about with AK 47 and reports of their wanton killings of Nigerians have sparked outrage across the land.
Benue State recently buried 73 victims of such attacks, followed by Taraba State where scores of people were also killed.
Buhari’s government has been widely criticised for looking the other way while herdsmen went on the rampage.
However, the Minister of Defence, Dan-Ali, emerging from Thursday’s NSC meeting, told reporters that the killings in parts of the country could not be blamed solely on herdsmen, because according to him, “there are also militias who also carry arms.”
He added: “Some people were caught with arms and they call themselves Forest Guards or whatever with AK47.
“There is nowhere in this country where arms are allowed to be carried apart from legitimate security forces. So, anybody carrying any arm is doing so illegally.” http://thenationonlineng.net/buhari-orders-clamp-illegal-arms-bearers/

Politics › 2018 Budget: Works Ministry To Spend N341bn On Projects – Fashola by ManirBK(op): 7:30am On Jan 27, 2018 |
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on Thursday, said Works sector would require N341 billion for projects in 2018. He said this while defending the ministry’s 2018 budget before members of the House of Representatives Committee on Works, in Abuja. Fashola said out of N325.9 billion earmarked as capital budget, the main ministry would gulp N288.3 billion while parastatals will need N37.6 billion. According to Fashola, the budget for Federal Emergency Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) is N25.6 billion, Office of Secretary to Government of the Federation, N10.1 billion and Federal School of Surveying, Oyo, N450 million. “Others are Council For the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), N548.5million, Regional Centre for Training in Aerospace Surveys (RECTAS), N301 milliin and Surveyors Registration Council of Nigeria (SURCON), N489.6 million,” Fashola said. For overhead, he told the committee that the ministry earmarked N480.1 million and N15.2 million for its parastatals. Fashola, however, said that the ministry would give priorities to projects of critical economic value to the country. “These are highly trafficked routes used for the distribution of goods and services across the country and major river-crossing bridges,” he added. Fashola blamed the untimely completion of projects on insufficient funding. “The major factor militating against the timely completion of projects is insufficient budgetary provision and releases for projects to sustain annual cash-flow requirement levels. “This underscores the need for diversifying the sources of funding for highway projects,” he said. |

CSTR2: APC would be stupid to do that. They are not that dumb.
Even if APC wins in 2019 thanks to buhari, a yorubs candidate in 2023 will not only lose woefully in the South with total rejection in the SE/SS, the north may not support a yoruba candidate for tactical and national feasibility reaasons.
The moment buhari leaves in 2023 , Nigerian politics return to default settings.
Even if a yoruba candidate wins by a miracle, he is going to face unprecedented political attacks from the north and south throughout his tenure , he wouldn 't last more than a term.

Either way, it's game over for 5% people. The next president from South will be Yoruba. That is what matters. Yes thats 4 sure |

On 4th of feb 2002, that was the day Buhari was registered as card carrying member of APP at Daura, he had this to say; "As from today onward, as long as almighty God wishes, whatever will happen to me politically is in the able hand of God through the instrumentality of Nigerian masses". It is imperative to note that, If there is any politician OBJ has ever been afraid of in his entire political career, it is not Atiku Abubakar as we are wont to believe, but the man Muhammadu Buhari. His support for PMB in 2015 was basically out of political convenience not to be sinked politically and because GEJ sidelined him notwithstanding the gross corruption, ineptitude and cluelessness that reigned supreme in that government. With his open statement to this government that have upheld him in high regards and best esteem, it then becomes obvious that the die has finally been cast, the drummer beating the drum for those masquerading as "neo-interventionist" with a red card is now exposed, hence, his age-long history of playing god through manipulation and cashing in on media sentiments have reached its crescendo. OBJ cannot claim to be a democrat and yet, not upholding the tenets of democracy. It is wishful thinking and outright witchcraft to ask a serving president not to re-contest after scoring him with your own subjective marking scheme, and at the same vein calling on same to join you and GEJ to the sidelines to continue to receive humongous retirement benefits and be a sidekick tragi-comedy to the nation, kolewerk.......... PMB has since defined and determine the pathway of his political journey and no any Port Harcourt Diploma (PhD) holder and his minions the wailing wailers, mischief makers and naysayers nor any recent Public Harassment Demon (PhD) holder with his aggrieved technocrats deceiving themselves as "Intervention Movement" and #RedCardReferees without a portfolio can do anything about, re-contest he most if he so wishes. The only place to test the popularity of a candidate, still remains at the ballot box and not through subtle, sorcery and subterfuge coercion. #iStandWithBuhari |

Politics › Fuel Scarcity: Sell At N145 Or Lose Your Petrol, DPR Warns Marketers by ManirBK(op): 7:03am On Jan 24, 2018 |
The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has warned marketers within its Enugu Zone to comply with N145 pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) or have their products dispensed to customers free. Mr Unyime Akpan of Health, Safety and Environment Department, DPR Enugu Office, gave the warning in Awka when he led an enforcement team to Anambra on Tuesday.
Akpan said the team sealed one filing station for allegedly refusing to revert and enforced the pump price sale of the product in nine other stations on Atani road in Ogbaru and some parts of Idemili North Local Government Areas. He expressed regret that some marketers had remained defiant, in spite of DPR’s efforts to ensure compliance, noting that the DPR might apply more stringent punishment by dispensing products of defaulting marketers to customers for free. “Petrol price is controlled; stations are not supposed to sell above N145 per liter and if the cost of getting products suggests they cannot sell at that price, then they should leave out. “Marketers are the people encouraging the hike; if they are not gaining from it, then they leave out until the system returns to normal. “We may have to begin to dispense their products free because DPR also has the powers; if this price compliance sales proves ineffective, we may be left with no option than to give out their petrol, so that they can understand how serious we are,” he said. In a reaction, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) absolved its members of any complicity in the hike of petrol price and blamed it on scarcity. Chief Ikechukwu Nwankwo, Chairman of IPMAN, Enugu Depot, in charge of Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu states, urged DPR to stop the clampdown the members as sealing outlets and auctioning the products would not solve the problem. Nwankwo decried the petrol supply situation in the country and called for a more sustainable measure to normalise it. He said DPR’s action on IPMAN members, especially those under his zone, amounted to being punished for a problem they did not cause and could not solve. Nwankwo said that solution to the problem was massive and sufficient supply of petrol into the system by the NNPC. The IPMAN chairman said marketers were making efforts to make the product available to customers as complete scarcity would amount to shutting the economy and holding the masses hostage. “I have spoken with my members here in Anambra, the situation of fuel supply is bad and it is our wish that we begin to get products like the way it used to be before. “IPMAN is not happy with the way the DPR is harassing us, closing our stations and auctioning our products. It is like they want to push us out of business because we cannot continue to suffer this loss. “NNPC is not allocating products to us, DPR should go and monitor the marketers that get allocation from NNPC; how can we buy product at N190 or N195 and DPR sells them off at N145. “We make extra effort to get product at tank depot so that economic activities can go on and we should not be punished for that; we may have to close our stations if they continue to pursue us,” he said. NAN reportes that pump price of petrol has dropped from between N240 and N250 to N200 per liter. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/fuel-scarcity-sell-at-n145-or-lose-your-petrol-dpr-warns-marketers.html?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C7108974721 |
