gogochocolate: prechear, please what documents did you submit to claim work experience point. i am submitting my employment letter, pay slips, salary review letters. would this be enough? Finally do they normally contact your company human resources or would they contact the company official (My boss) in the reference letter. My company HR cannot give me an introduction letter for migration the best they can do is to give me a letter for holiday travel overseas. kindly advise.

how long does it take for one to be issued a PR visa after applying. thanks
The documents aforementioned are in order. Make sure you have payslips covering the last six months.

I'll strongly advise you get a reference letter from your boss or HR unit simply stating when you were employed and how you've fared on the job (a couple of good recommendations for you). If this can't be addressed directly to DIBP, they could make the addressee open by making it "To Whom It May Concern".

Honestly, I can't confirm they check these documents/references with your employer. I may say they don't in many cases if they're convinced with your submissions, which I think is subjective.

bossladyMo: Manmeta, UBKTech, Nwokenna, Prechear, Bellong - Abeg, is this Form 80 and Form 1221 compulsory? Did the CO particularly request for it? It's too many pages of filling and scanning...don't want to waste my time if it's not compulsory or never requested by CO.
Hello Bossladymo. It wasn't required of me to fill any of these forms. After submitting my online application, at the appropriate time, my CO only prompted me to go ahead with the police and medical checks.

Do you have a CO now? And have you been requested to fill these forms?

prechear: I greet u All.
Just a general inquiry with those who hav experienced and know those who have experienced waiting for PR visa application to be granted. I don apply since April and do medicals in May. How long on d average does it take to get it? I read its 3month. My own don pass 3mths. My heart is racing.....
I can almost predict you'd getthe PR Visa this September. Keep your fingers crossed.
TravelRe: General Australian Visa Enquiries by manmeta:
weconsult: @prechear and manmeta
you need to clarify this fact. I concur that on FORM 80, you have to fill in the details of all family members but for the visa application, if i'm not mistaken and according to my interpretation of the docs quoted by spiggy above, non migrating dependent family members are to undergo medicals.

I just looked through my form again and it says non migrating dependent family members. In this case, i am clear they have to undergo medicals. perhaps the question "non migrating family members" differs from "non migrating dependent family members" where dependent is the variance between the two. Your dependent is expected to migrate with you sooner or later.
On form 80, you get to fill in the details of your parents and siblings.
The online form I filled required I provided my spouse's (wife's) details.

Thereafter, there is a section tagged FAMILY MEMBERS. This is segmented into two:

1. Migrating Dependents: These are my two kids.

2. Non-migrating DEPENDENTS: These are my siblings, dad and deceased mom.

(Please note that these are the exact words on the form)

No other segments to cover for family and I only carried out medical and police checks for myself, wife and migrating dependents (my two kids).

I was not required to provide same for my listed NON-MIGRATING DEPENDENTS.

I submitted this application in February 2012 when the skilled independent visa was tagged 175 before the SkillSelect process was initiated. I suppose when SkillSelect kicked off in July 2012, maybe these changes about providing checks for non-migrating (dependent) family members were introduced then. I wouldn't know.
TravelRe: General Australian Visa Enquiries by manmeta: 3:38pm On Jul 22, 2014
bossladyMo: It just doesn't make sense for dibp to ask for medicals from non-mig family members, cos medicals are only valid for a year. Oh well, it's their country, their rules
In 2012 when I applied for my PR, I listed my non-migrating family members which included my dad and siblings and they were not required to carry out medical and police checks.

lawland: How did you get your yellow fever card? Did you have any problem on the other side cos of it?... Ok guys, I have gotten the info I need, it cos #500 and can be gotten at any general hospital.
I've always had one because I did extensive oversea travels when I was in Nigeria. I got for my family (and mine) at the airport in Lagos at the Ports Health department at N500 each. It lasts for 10 years. It's recommended you get the immunisation at least 3 weeks before departure, but trust Nigerians...

For kids with recent immunisation records, there won't be any need to get immunised again. There records will just be transferred to the 'Yellow Card'.

No matter how quack that card is, you sure need it at the port of entry here. Otherwise, you may be immunised and quarantined before released. Australia is VERY strict about who and what come through their borders. Watch the BORDER SECURITY programme.

gogo chocolate: Hello everyone, I am new to this forum. I plan to migrate to australia under the skills select scheme. I have written my ielts and had an average of 8.5 in the general trainning module. I am looking for engineers who may have written their career episodes report for engineers australia so that we can share ideas as I am about writing my own . Is there any one who has received a positive assessment from engineers australia ? Thanks in advance
Welcome on board bro. You've taken the first step and rightly so. Send me a PM and I'll send you a format of mine. You may also contact NNB2012. He's also an engineer. What's your discipline?

ferdimako: Hello All, if my IELTS GT comes in well, I'll propose and include her in my PR application.Let my wish come through. God!

@nwokenna,UBKtech,manmeta and others, must she do IELTS and what will the score be?
I guess you're talking about your fiancee. She may not write the IELTS test if you can show proof she's studied in English all her life. You can prove this by submitting certified true copies of certificates and/or transcripts. That's what I did for my wife.

It will be a good one if she can be on your PR application because she'd be working while you school. But again, since you guys are not married yet (I assume), you must prove your relationship.

jennykadry: Explain better please

Ok..........@manmeta where are you? You see, I work on the health sector and have mostly ideas in that area. HR is on he skilled list, is the other one there as well?

Also pages back I stated here that I don't and cannot choose a uni or course for someone.
Honestly, I can't say anything definitive about what discipline to choose or otherwise. It behooves the applicant to research where they have strong standing.

With respect to the SOL, my observation so far has revealed that just because a discipline is listed on the SOL does not necessarily mean it's in "high" demand. Beware and do your ground work very well.

UBKtech: @manmeta, jennykandry etc
Plz house, I went to book my flight to Melbourne today and my agent was advising that I book a return ticket but I could not understand why I have to buy a return ticket when am going there on a PR visa.

Has anyone been in similar situation before?? Did you have to buy return ticket when you are going on PR?? Should I go ahead and book my one way??
As Jenny said, one-way ticket is obtainable. Use the airline. I did everything online on the airline's website. I only went to the airline's office to clarify something.

Rule of thumb: Try to do things first yourself before approaching agents. You'll find out most of the time that you don't need them.

All the best.

ACS doesn't accept IETLS but I've it on Sep 21.More prayers...marriage option didn't work.
All the best Ferdie. Before you submit your PR application, let me have a checklist for both ACS and DIAC. Thanks.

jennykadry: The listening and speaking are the two easiest part especially speaking. You will be fine, I used to be friends with an IELTS official and he told me that
They could care less if what you said made sense during your speaking test as they re only watching out for how well you speak and how much of what you have said they are able to get (accent and all).....and how they hate it when the candidates pauses for more than 5 secs or making weird sounds like ....."hummm, ya, hmmm, etc.

I wrote IELTS at ECU when I wanted to study overseas for a year sometime ago, there was nothing like a head set, a casette player was all they used.
The Return of Jenny. Guys roll out the drums! Where is the red carpet?

I'll like to advise all individuals intending to take the IELTS exams (particularly posdream....lol). Don't fidget or make much fuss about this. It's not a big deal and don't make one out of it.

Aside adequate preparations, going into the exams, you need to relax and save yourselves these hassles as this will endanger your concentration. Know that there is absolutely no exams one can fully prepare for.

Therefore, relax, go in there and do your bit/best, which should be ok.

One more piece of advice: What smears any good work is lack of attention to details. Watch it. I've seen individuals break this pertinent law here severally. For example: Using 'advice' for 'advise'. The correct word is 'programme' and not 'program'. It's spelt 'centre' and not 'center'. 'A few' is more than 'few'. 'Is' goes with 'much' while 'are', with 'more'.

Pardon me o. I no be Mr. Lecturer.

All the best.

NNBB2012: Good to know that manmeta. In my case my wife sat for ielts exam to avoid paying the second installment. I never knew that I could have avoided that by just submitting proof that she had her education in English. I also read recently on this forum that Nigerian could submit CDR for assessment to EA without ielts result. It's interesting that things are changing fast.
One may also get a letter from the registrar of one's alma mater indicating that the medium of learning was in English. In any case, don't mind them. If South Africa could be exempted in most cases, why not Nigeria? Nonetheless, one shouldn't be quick to blame them. The standard in our system has plummeted too. I recruited graduates for my former company and it was disgusting to see many could not even write an application letter not without grammatical blunders. The ones I mentored always evaded writing technical reports because they didn't know how to.

I couldn't make it yesterday. Could you mail me your phone no. I'd like clarify an issue with you. Thanks sir.

posdream: @all, Please will my hubby sit for IELTS if he's following me as a dependant?
No, if you don't want him to. An adult dependant must show proof that they're at least knowledgeable in the use of the English language. Otherwise, they may have to pay an exorbitant amount (thousands of dollars) to the AMES. In other not to pay this amount, they may do IELTS with a minimum score of 4.5 (I hope I'm correct) or show proof they've studied in English for a long while. In my case, my wife was the dependant. She didn't take IELTS but we sent her pry school and WAEC results, BSc cert. and academic transcripts to show she studied in English all her life.

manmeta: Relax Nwokenna. You're almost there since you've been asked to medical this month. This the way it works:

The results of the medicals you've been prompted to do are only valid for a year. Hence, DIAC MUST issue you your PR visas before that expiration barring any eventuality.

I applied before SkillSelect came onboard. I got my PR 4 months after I submitted medicals and police clearance. But with SkillSelect, I believe it will be fast tracked.

Initiate your evacuation plans! lol

posdream: yes please make u all post your questions o a beg...so we can also practice with it.

@Zoe its better you count your words, don't depend on pages.its better to be more than to be less. try and count per words. i have forgotten how my teacher taught me to count words of essay back then. so i count word by word now.
Write the first three lines. Find the average no. of words for those three lines. That would be your average per line. Use that to calculate the no. of lines you're going to write. It's not a problem if you shoot more than these by additional 3 to 5 lines.

For example, if your average for the first three lines is 8 words per line, then for a 150-word essay, your total no. of lines would be about 20. You can make that like 25 to cater for paragraphs.

1 2 3 4 5 6 (of 6 pages)
