An illegal immigrant being deported to Jamaica tried to slash his own throat on board a plane at Gatwick airport, it is understood.

The man has been returned to immigrant custody after being treated for "superficial injuries" at hospital and discharged, a UK Border Agency spokesman said.

An investigation was being launched into the incident, he added.

The Virgin Atlantic flight, VS69, has been delayed until 1245 BST on Tuesday.
Counselling offered

The man, who was being deported to Kingston, Jamaica, was reportedly treated by paramedics who "glued" together his throat wound.

A UK Border Agency spokesman said on Monday: "There has been an incident today involving a Jamaican individual being removed from the UK on a flight from Gatwick airport.

"The individual was taken to hospital with superficial injuries. An investigation is under way."

It added later: "The man was returned to immigrant custody after being treated and discharged at hospital."

A Virgin Atlantic spokesman said: "The safety and welfare of our crew and passengers is Virgin Atlantic's top priority.

"Virgin Atlantic is co-operating with the authorities in their investigation of the incident and is offering counselling support to passengers and crew."

The 449 passengers are being put up in local hotels pending the delayed flight on Tuesday but Virgin said passengers would be permitted to switch flights.

Virgin Atlantic thanked the passengers for their patience.

It is not immediately clear if the authorities will try to deport him on the same flight on Tuesday.

In October last year a 46-year-old man, Jimmy Mubenga, died after becoming ill while being deported.

He collapsed on a British Airways plane bound for Angola at Heathrow Airport.

Mr Mubenga's family have claimed force was used on him and have called for an inquiry.

If HELL was real then living in Nigeria would be like living in HEAVEN but our leaders continue to loot our policemen continue to shoot innocent people and pastors duping their innocent congregation is proof that HEAVEN and HELL is imaginary

If hell was real the fear of it would make our leaders non corruptible but since hell is imaginary they are not. In developed countries where people do not even believe in heaven or hell thier leaders are less corruptible than our very relgious ones.

Send them to prison but the conditions in the prison must be terrible and they must be treared as if they are in HELL with the prison wardens nicknamed the devils and the inmates made to stay in a cell in total darkness for 23 hours a day with no total facilities and regular torture for the next five to ten years or even possible death am sure our leaders will change eventually.

When this experience comes to an end, and i leave this physical body, i will remember everything that ever was. The physical bodies are the bottlenecks as they are meant to be. If we remember everything that ever happens on this plain and on this planet, it will defeat the whole purpose of being here.
No. Our physical bodies came from "dust" and they return to "dust", not us. We are NOT our physical bodies; but we inhabit them. We put hem on like we do clothes and dispose of them when it is time. Our physical bodies expire, we don't. We are spirit beings and we live on toinhabit another kind of bodies in another life some other reality. It is an endless loop of interractive experiences in which we exist.

So in other words we exist forever we never die. And we all had a previous life which we will not remember until we die again and our spirit leaves our physical bodies? So what about the sperm that has to fertilize the egg? Where dose that fit into the picture?  

Life is a cycle you are born you live you pass your genes onto your next generation (so that the cycle of life can continue) then you die. There was no beforelife so there will be no afterlife.

You can't remember what was happening 2'000 years ago when Jesus Christ supposedly walked on this earth or 150 years ago when our colonial masters first set foot in Nigeria. WHY? Because you didn't exist during that time. Likewise you cannot predict what will happen 2'000 years after you die or even 150 years after you die because like the time when Christ was supposedly around or when our colonial masters were around YOU WILL NOT EXIST. We came from dust we return to dust, or to put it this way we came from nothing so we shall return to nothing.

Life evolved. The white man who colonized us and taught us civilization their lives evolved to over the centuries. The point is we Nigerians are not really civilized. We lack discipline.
