Politics / What Would You Want To See In Nairaland 2013? by manosteel(m): 4:56am On Jan 02, 2013
For many of us, it's no doubt that Nairaland takes major part of our internet subscription plan and therefore deserve better. In this year 2013, I would like to see any of the following:

Before the update, i used to have notification as soon as someone comments on the thread i subscribed to but now i get notification after many days and by then the thread is either old, deserted or closed.

Nairaland is not facebook one would say, however it can become the next big African thing such that friends from Ghana, South Africa etc can visit and see threads that are of important to them. So i would like to see some subsections created for various African countries.

Also, i would like to see a section i would call Attorney section created, where power will be vested on Nairalanders to adjudicate, settle dispute or take decisions e.g, when someone is ban by a moderator, he can present his case there, and Nairalanders will deliberate on his case and vote in favour or against his ban, and the popular opinion must be honoured by the moderator. Also, one can report his dispute with someone in Nairaland, and it shall be settled there, and decision will be reached to ban the offender for certain number of days etc. What else can i say, if the Oga himself refuses to serve us better, We can pass a vote of confidence or no confidence. By so doing, power will be vested on people.

What about you, how would you want Nairaland to serve you 2013?

Family / what is it that your wife does that makes you feel like beating her? by manosteel(m): 5:51am On Dec 31, 2012
Permit me if this topic has been treated before, just want to know if someone ever felt the same way at one time or the other. Before getting married, i resolved never to beat my wife, and i have been keeping to that. I must say that it has not been easy, sometimes she will get into my nerves, i hate it when she argues with me blindly such that i feel like beating her. Does anyone feel the same way, and how do you handle it?
Politics / Re: Hausas And Yorubas Are Settlers In Nigeria? by manosteel(m): 9:10am On Dec 30, 2012
I think the point worths noting here is that, there is no any documentation that shew that the Igbos have ever migrated from or to anywhere, and that could explain why Ibo language is spoken only in Nigeria, unlike Yoruba and Hausa languages that are spoken in many West African communities.

Politics / Hausas And Yorubas Are Settlers In Nigeria? by manosteel(m): 5:31am On Dec 30, 2012
Does it mean that the Hausas and Yorubas are settlers or migrants in Nigeria. Going through history books, i saw that the Hausas are traders/herdsmen who migrated from Sahara Africa to Western Africa, and settled in Nigeria, Chad, Niger, Mali. As a result, we still have Hausa speaking communities of those parts of Africa.
The same applies to Yoruba who is said to have migrated from Arab to west African countries like Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana etc, and to buttress the fact, there are Yoruba speaking communities in those countries. As a result, I'm begining to ask, if this is the case, could it be that the Igbos and other tribes are the real Inhabitants of Nigeria?

Politics / Which President Can Be Regarded As African Leader? by manosteel(m): 4:35pm On Dec 12, 2012
In every Continent, there is always a President whom the remaining country's Presidents look upto as a leader and whose voice is respected by all. Since the exit of people like Olusegun Obasanjo, John Kufuor, Thabo Mbeki and Momoh Gadafi from the African scene, it's as if a vacuum have been created, and there is nobody playing that leadership role. Which African President do you think can step into that shoe? For me i will say President Paul Kigali of Rwanda.

Sports / Re: Chitalu Scored More Than Messi's In A Calendar Year by manosteel(m): 4:00pm On Dec 10, 2012
If he was that good, how come his name is not popular, and how come many of us don't know about him. Looking at the picture, i guess the big star as you would want us to believe was playing in an empty stadium. If i may ask, where did he score his goals? UEFA? Premiership? Laliga? Because it is very easy for one to stay in his village and scores 1000 goals, Infact it is not even equivalent to one goal in Laliga or UEFA.

Politics / Re: Bode George Wins African Leadership Award by manosteel(m): 8:32pm On Dec 06, 2012
The present day student union is corrupt and has lost its credibility. Gone are the days when student union was respected and was seen as bright leaders of tomorrow, I mean the time of Emeka Ojukwu in Kings College Lagos, Wole Soyinka in University College Ibadan etc. Many Pan African Nationalist that brought about Independence in their various countries were once strong members of student union movement, Nelson Mandela, Patrick Lumumba, Nnamdi Azikwe, Kenneth Kaunda etc.
