How is islam ever going to progress from a 7th century religion to a 21st century religion if you wont even discuss the changes that are necessary. We are obviously not living in the 7th century anymore when the Qur'an was written, and society has changed dramatically since then. To live in peace and harmony with atheists and people of different faiths, dont you think it is important to discuss the issues that said people have about the implication of certain religious texts in the Qur'an.

I believe that most muslims want to live in peace with atheists, christians, jews, hindus, etc. and see them as equals even though they have different beliefs. How can we bring Islam into the 21st century without demanding different rules and rights for believers and non believers (who will be forced to pay a jizya tax if they dont convert to islam).
I dont want to pay a tax to remain a non believer, just like a muslim would find it unfair to pay a tax to live in a non muslim country, give up his/her belief and convert or be executed.

The authors imagination was a hypothesis without the benefit of modern DNA evidence which has now shown that whales slowly evolved over tens of millions of years from hippo like mammals in the shallow seas as India slowly inched on its continental plate towards mainland Europe. Not a bad guess though to suggest that whales evolved from land mammals. Would you agree with that fact?

An atheist monument is to be erected outside an American courthouse next to the Ten Commandments listing the barbaric punishments for breaking those commandments and listing some secular / atheist quotes.

Its a well known fact that the countries that are the least religious are the most peaceful. Religious people find it hard to compromise on their beliefs when they believe they are following their god's law. This rigid stance is always bound to cause deadly conflict especially when people are prepared to kill and die for their supernatural beliefs convinced that they are going to live an everlasting life in 'paradise'. Just look at the nightmare situation in the middle east and any other country that is as deeply religious as Nigeria for examples. I'm sure you all know this already though.

As you can see, it is not too difficult for a follower of Islam to consider the wests foreign policy in Arab lands as an act of aggression and Muslims need to fight and kill all unbelieving aggressors wherever they find them. I know that most Muslims don't take these commands to kill unbelievers literally, but a lot do consider America and Britain to be unbelievers at war with Islam and justify Muslims who carry out terrorist attacks against the west as legitimate.

Also now that the war in Iraq is over, it is Muslims (sunni and shia) killing each other over the different interpretations of the Quran. Boko haram killing Christians in Nigeria due a different interpretation of Gods words. Taliban shooting little girls in Pakistan.. Apostates be heeded in Saudi Arabia. A young man beheaded in broad daylight on the streets of London with many Muslims calling the murderer a hero and saying they have no sympathy for his mother.

If you agree with me that Islam promotes hatred of non believers, violence and murder and decide to leave Islam and become an atheist, what will be your punishment according to sharia law?
The punishment for apostasy is death! How is this not violent? There is no way out for you is there. You have to be a Muslim for life even if you disagree with the violence committed in the name of your religion. I hope that one day you find the mental strength to see through it all and accept people as equal whether Muslims, Christians, atheists, Hindus, Buddhists, etc.

Please watch this video by a 15 year old girl explaining the basic facts of evolution. Its not that difficult to understand. You just need to try to get your head around the vast timescale involved in the process, and remember that 99% of mutations are not beneficial, leading to the fact that 99% of all species that have ever existed are now extinct. However, in a constantly changing environment due to the slow process of continents moving because of plate tectonics, a very small percentage of mutations are advantageus to the new environments and climates and animal ends up in. Over millions of generations this enables natural selection to run its course and species to branch out into new variations, and eventually new species altogether. For example, All humans evolved out of Africa. The species that came out of africa first, Homo erectus are now extinct, as are homo neanderthal, and many other species of hominids whose fossils have been found. Homo Sapiens are the last surviving human specie left due to our intelligence which allowed us to manipulate our environment, create tools, use fire, farm animals and plants, build shelters etc.
In the last 100 years We have learned so much about the history of life on this planet. Dont throw it all away because of a book written by ignorant goat herders 3000 years ago who knew nothing compared to what we know now.
