U can clearly see start CRS and IRS will be studied separately.

For thos making noise about Arabic studies, u can also see it is optional.

As a matter of fact, it is expected u study another Language ( French or Arabic) with English language.

Why the fuss about Arabic being taught?

Most French speaking countries are Christians, why are the Muslims not accusing of Christianazation too? Arabic is among one of the biggest languages in the world too.

This dirty, ignorant religious politics is just being played by slow, silly ignorant mofos like FFK, APPLE, FAYOSE, RENO MCKERY and the likes. It is sad.

This was what I laboriously tried to explain to 2 irredeemable guys on the other thread yet they refused to get. It is even sadder that in my Son's school, coincidentally they made the assessment of CRS limited to class assessment and mid-term exams but not end of term exams. Come and see supposedly educated parents demonstrating crude and arrogant ignorance, saying the Minister of Education has removed CRS from school curriculum and my son's school (which is actually a Redeemed school) obeyed

madridsta007:
Banks want Etisalat’s $1.2bn loan investigated

When you've finished with the emotions, perhaps you'll realise that, under President Buhari, Nigeria's FDI dropped at its lowest in comparison to the last 10-15 years; that for the first time in more than 3 decades Nigeria is in a double-digit inflation driven recession; that, within the first 6 months of this administration, 20 shipping companies left Nigeria; that Nigeria lost her place as Africa's biggest economy; that airlines hub has moved from Lagos, Nigeria to Accra Ghana; that many foreign airlines have cancelled Nigeria as a route and a couple of local airlines has packed up no thanks to the foriegn exhange rigmarole and inconsistency of this regime; that "noisemakers" also known as ministers were appointed in 2016 for a regime that started in May 2015, leading to instability in the polity.

But of course you probably know these things. You probably know that Etisalat, like many other companies, are packing up because of the aforesaid facts. If these things were reeled out by another change agent, say Wole Soyinka, you may have no issues with it. But it's Reno, who you have a problem wiTh, hence the annoyance.
I believe one of the easiest things in life is to just pull out stuffs from your ass and lay it on here with reckless abandon. 20Shipping coys left, Airlines left etc are just jargons without evidence as usual........but you know what? You can lie to your self some times but it shouldn't be everytime.......

Let us come to Etisalat. This shows that even when facts are shoved into your head you will still live in denial.
1. The consortium of banks that gave Etisalat the loan have refused to structure the loan, why? because they accussed Etisalat of mismangement and siphoning monies out of the country.
2. They further posited that they have the option of taking over and running Etisalat (Because according to the banks Etisalat is still viable)
3. Why are the consortium of banks calling on the same FG you ignorantly deride, to instruct the EFCC to look into the matter especially the systematic way Etisalat is siphoning funds thereby rendering the company insolvent?

But I am different from you. I will not make submission without backing it up
Strong indications emerged on Wednesday that consortium of 13 banks, involved in Etisalat Nigeria’s $1.2bn loan is seeking the Federal Government’s intervention to investigate the management.

A management source close to the banks said in Lagos that the banks want the government, through the EFCC, to wade into the matter, by investigating what the company did with the loan.

The source alleged that the loans were siphoned and needed to be investigated by the EFCC, noting, there was no proof of what the company did with the loan.

He said that the affected banks had rolled out a lot of viable options to Etisalat for the loan to be restructured, but was rejected by the company.

The source said that the banks were not into telecommunications and had no intention of running Etisalat.

“All we want is to recover the loans; we cannot write off the loans as being demanded by Etisalat, because the company is viable,” the source stated.

The source said that Etisalat wanted the banks to write off the loan as non-performing, which was rejected because the company was doing well.

According to the source, the company wants an injection of new capital, and this has been suggested to the majority shareholder.

The source said the government should investigate the matter with all seriousness, to dig out the truth.

UAE’s Etisalat on June 20 said that it had been instructed to transfer its 45 percent stake in Etisalat Nigeria to a loan trustee.

Etisalat said it had been notified to transfer its stake by June 23. It said the stake had a carrying value of zero on its books.

In the last three months, Etisalat Nigeria had been in talks with the consortium of banks, to restructure a $1.2bn-dollar loan, after missing repayments.

The loan is a seven-year facility, agreed with 13 banks in 2013, to refinance a $650m loan, and fund expansion of the telecommunications network.

Although the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), stepped into the fray to prevent a takeover by the banks, those discussions failed to produce an agreement on restructuring the debt.

Your opinion is very wrong.

A cardinal duty of the government is to standardize the weights and measures. This has been achieved in parts western Europe for instance, almost 1000 years ago (under Alfred the Great in Britain). I think the idea is to refurbish this one to near standard. The long term objective is that MM1 will be a 3-winged Airport. There is a wing that was built by the Chinese that is about to be completed. When that one is ready, they will close this current one, move to the new wing, then truly refurbish and build the third wing.

Ok, thank you Stella Oduah for the good job
The greatest disservice and injustice a man can do to himself is to lie to himself. I pass through MM1 every 8 weeks since the last 3years. Stella Odua's fake remodelling was all fraud. As at 2014, Dele Momodu was on a crusade to expose the deplorable state of our airports. He took pictures of delapidated facilities, terrible toilets, damaged conveyour belts, ACs not working. I remember as at October last year @MM1, power systems were so badly damaged there was a day we had to deboard with tourchlights, toilets were in terrible conditions. I came into the country sometime in the past, and conveyor belts did not work and they had to physically hand carry our bags to us

Relating the new MM1 facelift to Stella Odua the fraud is not only a lie but an insult to well meaning people's sensibilities. What you see now, is as a result of Osinbajo's office initiative on "Ease of Doing Business".

Who are the those that deemed it necessary to their curriculum in a secular state like Nigeria? You mean delegates representing the Islamic North, at least we are getting somewhere. Justified on what basis? You still haven’t given any logical reasoning for Arabic apart from it’s religious or cultural significance. You are starting to sound like an Islamic Apologist, desperately saying it’s for another reason we don’t know off but you won’t articulate.

Why don’t you show me your well researched facts that negate my assertions. If you have a superior argument that clearly shows French was put in for other reasons apart from it’s proximity to our nation, please furnish them.
I never implied by the way that proximity should be the only consideration but in the case of French that is the case.

It is a factor in a country that is supposed to be religiously neutral without any kind of State Religion. You are have a language that is solely the language of a religion and it’s not a problem. If Nigeria were an Islamic State, no quams but adding Arabic to a Language in the curriculum without other religious Languages is a problem since only one language perpetuates and cements the understanding of the religion.

Nigeria is a country in West Africa. Nigeria shares land borders with the Republic of Benin in the west, Chad and Cameroon in the east, and Niger in the north. Its coast lies on the Gulf of Guinea in the south and it borders Lake Chad to the northeast
Curious you are mentioning Djibouti( country located on the Horn of Africa, near Ethiopia.)
Mali (West Africa), Senegal(West Africa) and South Sudan(Eastern Africa), all almost 90% majority muslim countries. Also the official languages in Mali and Senegal are French, even south sudan is English although being almost 90% Islamic you can expect Arabic to be part of their national Languages. what happened to Ghana, Togo, Cameroon and Ivory Coasthuh
But Swahili is spoken more than Arabic in Africa,if that is your contention..so why not Swahili? Why does it have to be Arabic? You have to admit it’s because of the religion. When you do then we can move on too more important discussions

A country doesn’t choose those that colonised it. Maybe you should direct your questions to God almighty on why our colonial masters where the English and believe in Christianity and not the Islamic caliphs and crusaders. If the Islamic caliph were our colonial masters like most of North Africa we would have had an Islamic system and it would have been an Islamic country. This is what happened in the North with the Sokoto Caliphate and the Usman dan fodio crusaders and why there is this constant battle every time over ideology and identity.

Again if you have superior facts please take me to the cleaners. Nigeria joined the OIC in the 80s. I don’t know when Arabic was introduced into the curriculum but Nigeria is not an Islamic country and we have no business in such an organisation meant to propagate Islam and Islamic values. Arabic is a step closer in Islamising the Whole Country. Before long there will be calls to make Arabic our official Language. The Islamic takeover continues

Ok why don’t we go for the first spoken in Africa and first spoken in the World. According to your sources, they are not Arabic. Why do we have the 2nd most spoken in Africa and 4th most spoken in the World? Why can’t we go for the 1st in both Categories.

I am wondering why other Languages that are the top are not included. Why can’t we have the Top 5 so there is a wide range of options. Why must it be French or Arabic?
1. Arabic was introduced to the curriculum over 30yrs ago. The least you can do is to go into the records and fetch the report of the Educational summit and look at the criteria yourself. If you cannot undertake to do an academic exercise, come up with sound rebuttals and disprove submissions you only end up with sentimental cry.

2. English the widely most spoken language in Africa, Arabic is the second. What then is your argument?

3. You made a baseless submission that had neither documented records and reference
I can tell you authoritatively the reason for choosing french is because Nigeria is surrounded by francophone countries in its region. it makes logical sense to study french and not Portuguese or italian.
, yet you want me to disprove this with facts? What kind of discussion do you think I want to engage with you? To allow you make spurious and dubious claims without backing it up with references?

4. Does speaking of English alone make us "religiously neutral"? When has English been certified as a language of neutrality? This you point is not grounded in sound logic to me. Secondly referring to Arabic as "Solely the language of a religion" is big ignorance as well. That Arabic is a language of a particular people is well documented in history, so also is the fact that it predates Islam. It is only logical that Arabic is the language of the people where Islam originated from. That Arabic has gained mileage in terms of spread just like English is a problem to you?

5. I had told you your rationale that the choice of French as part of our curriculum is because of our next door neighbours, is not only incomplete, it is a misunderstanding position and turns logic on its head. I know that in the 70-80s French was the second fasting spreading language in commerce, education and social-exchange. There was suddenly and upsurge in job requirements for Bi-lingual executives and it was not steered toward those Francophone countries, but towards the west. This can be compared to the growth of Mandarin/Chinese today. Much more have you asked yourself what is the volume of exchange between a Nigeria and Togo, Cameroun for example compared to Nigeria and some other countries miles away? Can you compare the academic exchange, volume of trade and business between Nigeria and India, China, Russia and South Africa to Togo, Cameroun and Ivory Coast. Nutshell, Your proximity supposition in absolute is flawed.

6. My contention is not about restricting any language, and I wonder why you do not get it. I want as many relevant languages that will help our coming generation to be as competitive in the global space as possible. If you deem Swahili relevant to us, explain in lucid argument why. But to tell me "why not this or that" just to get rid of Arabic sounds absolutely ridiculous. The jury is out of which has more coverage on the African space between Arabic and Swahili. While some references submits that Arabic is the most widely spoken, others submits that it is Swahili. As far as I am concerned, we should decide as a people which ones are strategic, relevant and acceptable to people. Arabic covers these three criteria. I am fully aware that language students in Universities have Swahili as option, if for example you want Swahili as part of the curriculum, sponsor a motion at the next summit.

7. I try as much as possible in this discourse to not to get personal. Attacking the Islam, the Caliphate, Islamic ideologies, Babangida and IOC debacle etc are things that are sentimental in this context and argument, if we agree it should be fact based. For the records I am a Christian in right standing and assured of my salvation. That said, wrt languages and colonisation, it is true to the extent of choices. While is argued that Christianity and Colonialism rode hand-in-hand,and foisted English on us, same way Arab spread and Islam, Spanish and Portuguese. Each left their language with places they colonised, but it was the choices of the people to continue with it, modify it or adopt something else. There are countries that officially relegated the language of colonial masters and adopted their local language as the national language.

8. Many countries are strategic enough to review their curricular and determine additional language that will be relevant to them going forward. For example see a research commissioned by the British Council below;

Recent research commissioned by the British Council into the languages most needed by the UK in the next 20 years put Arabic in second place after Spanish. The report emphasised the importance of Arabic not only for business reasons but as a priority language in diplomacy and security and in international cultural and education strategies. https://www.britishcouncil.org/sites/default/files/arabic_report_2015.pdf
9.
Ok why don’t we go for the first spoken in Africa and first spoken in the World. According to your sources, they are not Arabic. Why do we have the 2nd most spoken in Africa and 4th most spoken in the World? Why can’t we go for the 1st in both Categories.
I'm sorry this your counter argument off....... Let me get you, we just choose languages emotionally with no strategic intent?

10.
I am wondering why other Languages that are the top are not included. Why can’t we have the Top 5 so there is a wide range of options. Why must it be French or Arabic?
. It is not an absolute that it MUST be French and Arabic. The two are under optional categories anyways. There are private schools where other languages like Chinese, German and Spanish are studies. If we have a strategic intent and a line of sight to values from other languages, then we make a case for it and add it to the options list

Finally, arguing that Arabic language is Islamic liturgy and stuffs, will be of no effect. Arguing that Arabic should be dropped from the curriculum is dead on arrival. The Islamisation of Nigeria angle to it (in this context) is pedestrian and an outright falsehood. We are just going to end up shooting ourselves in the foot. There are many knowledge that the western world derived from Arabic in Mathematics and science and vice-versa. Instead of us to look at improvements, we are making needless clamour for propagation of religion that is not helping the comity and our national aspirations

Bros,

At the risk of anything negative, I will advise you to seek understanding before you post submission that are pedestrian to say the least.

1. First off, I thought you are going to give me an argument that will be intellectually stimulating, with business and academic insights. What I see in your submission is far from it
2. "exchange rate" is not an absolute economic performance indicator of government and in this context. GEJ served you mugu when he mismanaged the foreign reserve, taking out a whooping almost $40b (from $67billion that Y'Ardua left it to $28b that PMB met it). Think about it in simplistic terms, the foreign reserves that was used to defend the Naira against the Dollar was depleted by 58% and you think the exchange rate will stay the same? Secondly crude oil prices crashed from $110 to $28 dwindling our revenues and you think the exchange rate will get better?
3. Let's talk about Etisalat. Going by your submission, does it make sense to you (and by extension the daft Reno) that a company of the repute of Etisalat will take a loan of $1.2b, and will not make provision for exchange rate flunctuation, expecting government to do that on their behalf? Does it make sense to you that a bank will look at Etisalat's request for loan and will not scrutinize the risk assessment part to see if they indeed calculated the risk very well before getting the loan?
4. I don't have some of the answers now, but I can decipher what is ridiculous. Your submission is downright ridiculous. If MTN can pay a $2b penalty in a business year and still standing, then something should tell you that Etisalat with a mismanaged $1.2b loan have a lot of explaining to do.
5. My problem with you lot is that you are too jumpy to make submissions that turns logic on its head. You are not patient enough to seek clarification, you are less bothered to read and connect the dots in a logical manner. In the last 24hrs the following have come out
a. Etisalat took the loan in 2013, a clear 2years before PMB came on board.
b. Secondly Etisalat took the loan to refinance a prior loan. That means they had been in huge debt from the get-to-go
c. The consortium of banks are calling on EFCC to step in and investigate. They suspected that the TMT of Etisalat siphoned the money and moved it abroad. Pls read below

Banks want Etisalat’s $1.2bn loan investigated

Making your government "accountable", is mutually exclusive from being Christian or Muslim or Sikh; it is a duty by citizens in a democracy. I understand if this is strange within the Nigerian context, but as Nigeria practices democracy, it is important that we start to really learn the tenets of democracy and treat them with logic rather than emotions. Martin Luther King who literally gave the American government of President Lyndon Johnson "hell", was a pastor, fondly remembered by Christians. Should we also de-Christianise him?
.....and I guess Martin Luther King made spurious, ridiculous, daft and no-fact-based allegations to achieve that?

Hahaha... Reno isn't an idiot, he's actually a brilliant chap but his sanity has been irreparable damaged by the events of 2015. He currently suffers from post-election-loss traumatic stress disorder; he wakes up every morning reliving the events of March 28 - April 1st 2015. He needs serious spiritual deliverance or proper psychiatric care to erase the scars.
Then he is indeed a complete idiot

Well before u start insulting people, perhaps u should first ask in what way did Etisalat betray GEJ. See the problem is we fail to record history that is why we keep failing and failing. I am more interested in the back story than supporting either of them.
Can you educate us HOW Etisalat "betrayed" GEJ?

Not sure which part of Reno's statement is "hate".
We've used and overused certain phrases in Nigeria that the true meaning is lost. I'm sure you do not know the meaning of "hate." Granted, Reno could have backed his assertion with some facts but this isn't simply not hate. Of course, Buhari's terrible economic management has sunk many companies to their knees, but I'm unsure as to how Etisalat supported APC.
So let's look at specific. Can you name JUST ONE policy that supposedly sank Etisalat and explain how?
