Dear young nairalanders I enjoyed the comparisons between Rwanda and Rivers state. However, it left a bitter taste because I had always suspected that cost of road and building construction amongst other things are more than 1000% inflated in Nigeria. This applies to all governments. Until we all rise up to ask the politicians to benchmark their costs, out state funds would never stretch as far as they should. Road construction and upgrade are particularly frightening when you hear the cost. These need to be challenged. All levels of government can always do more, and we should keep highlighting success in other climes that was achieved for far less. Goodluck is as guilty as Amaechi, and so are most of the governors and ministers. |

Problem with most jaundiced analysis in the media is people forget the root cause of the crises. But the facts must be stated. Bibi was allowed into the complex with thugs. - Mbu, police commissioner Bibi beat up speaker His thugs pounce on other legislators They then take over power and Bibi proclaims himself speaker Amaechi is alerted, the 27 regroup and take over amidst fighting. The group of five take off, Bibi leads the taking off. Lloyd takes the mace and breaks his colleagues head Assembly regroup to approve supplementary budget Etc, etc. It is clear that having a commissioner who is not in sync with the state government is the root cause of this. First analysis is to sack the commissioner. Bibi has immunity, but the thugs he brought in should be fished out. Lloyd can be sued by the wounded legislator, but I doubt if he can succeed. His group came in by force to upstage the establishment, so he should not hide under the law for protection. In the long run, Amaechi might go due to the onslaught, but for now it looks like his friends on the house have given him a lifeline. The fight will only get lesser. God bless Rivers State God bless Nigeria |
Dear OP, Many people are also doing this same on Nairaland. However, you need to differentiate your business from the rest. What value are you creating different from the others? Why would a customer buy from you rather than AAA or Inspired etc. Spend a moment and reflect on this to help your business. My suggestions: When you are in Cotonou, do a deal with the big auto sellers, mostly Lebanese. Tell them or show them Nairaland and the potential for people tp buy from them Post pictures of all sorts of cars from the big to the small Post the discounted CFA price from the dealers direct and the exchange rate. Breakdown your cost of delivery including genuine clearing and flying. Some folks prefer flying in their cars from Cotonou and getting fake papers. Do these and more and watch your page grow. Ok, son, goodluck! |

Guys its only a game. I doff my hat to Sir Alex for the strategy he brought to the game which stifled the freeflowing game of Madrid. There is no doubt the sending off changed the game as it enabled Mourinho to bring Madrid who changed the game with his masterful play. Lets analyse the goals. The first goal -an own goal should not have stood. Van Persie was offside when the ball got to him, the kinsman missed that, and that gave Man U an advantage. The challenge by Nani was a dangerous one, not helped by his simulation, which made the ref decision a very correct one. Had he accepted responsibility, he might have been lucky with a yellow. No matter, Nani saw Arbeola late and should have directed his leg away from Arbeola rather than aiming for his chest. The rule is clear- dangerous play, red card. Now with the sending off, it was still 1-0 to the Red Devils. Why did Sir Alex not hold on to the lead?He missed a trick there. When Modricd was brought on, he failed to respond to that and still carried on as if the midfield was still on the same dynamics. That was a rare lapse of concentration by a great tacticIan, a great coach. ManU should have organized better and perhaps should not have conceeded. Being 10 man down does not mean you loose a game. After the second goal, ManU brought in changes and were very determined and may have scored a goal or two. The day was saved by good goal keeping. The Red card, made it easier for Madrid, but Sir Alex playing to the crowd rather than focussing on strategy as Madrid brought Modric, may have cost ManU the match. And by the way, ManU fans, there is next year champions league which you are sure to play. Remember, the first goal should have been an offside call, so stay humble. |

To ban tinted glasses you need to amend the law, not an order by anybody including the President. Why do we do things like foolish people? Let them pass a law and then that is it. |
it may turn out to be a phyrric victory because the courts including the supreme court will give the governor elect the Amaechi treatment. The seat will go back to Sylvia who was the Pdp candidate at the end of his first tenure. I expect the Kogi state governor to face the same issues. |
you have a point but you have to take cognisance of the following very valid points; a) having a church does not equate to being annointed by God. these days it is a business using the name of God. these and many others were predicted in the last days. b) your pastor could also be preaching in error. the fact that he is pastor is no guarantee that he will make the kingdom of God before a member of his church. in view of the above, take note that God does not need a middleman in hos relationship with men. ideally church leadership positions should ne rotated. the only person that should give direction in any church is the Holy Spirit. Most church leaders I am afraid lack the Spirit and do not qualify to even perceive your tithe! |
Am really disappointed with the quality of debate in Nigeria. The government people organized or 'paid' for a town hall meeting which failed to frame the issues properly. What I would want to see is people folding up their sleeves with blank sheet of paper to put all the issues in context. We have hit at the issues but have failed to properly quantify them. Let me list a few of the issues that are at play here. Value of the Nigeria- CBN sole controller of dollar earnings (monopoly?). Unless we get a handle, prices will keep going up in Naira terms. PIB not passed to provide the legal infrastucture for deregulation High cost of running government - salaries, numbers, allowances, travels General wastages and duplication in government - High no of Cars, Bureaucracy and curruption debottlenecking Atlas cove discharge point TAM for refineries - previous ones achieved little, why has it taken govt 2 years to call the firm that built refineries? Why have more refineries not been built? Niger republic just built one. Do we really need to build now or to maintain? The cabal who have falsified fuel imports why have they not been brought to their knees and the monies recovered? Why was 1.3 trillion spent? Who approved the expenditure? Who budgeted for it? I am of the opinion that certain issues need to be fully exhausted and they have been glossed over as usual. Based on all of these, I am in support of reverting to N65/litre and all these issues sorted within 2 months. People (ministers, public servants, may face sack or go to jail, so be it) |
With All due respect to our World bank Presido and CME, her argument is watery and one-sided. There are two sides to this equation. The generation side and the expenditure side. If you attack this problem from just one side, you will fail, because you get an imbalance. We have seen older democracies resort to pumping money- read subsidies to jump start their economies. Every economy cannot run purely on textbook demand and supply. Sometimes they need subsidies to ratchet up demand, which causes manufacturers and retailers to sell, which brings money to the economy. If you tax (or remove subsidies), you affect the generation part of the equation, by increases net accruals to government, but on the expenditure side, your citizens have less money to spend, so your economy goes down the drain, as prices rise, demand drop and people get out of work. That is precisely why the other subsidy removals have not worked. They targeted subsidy removals, prices shot up, the Naira depreciated in return and at the end, the removal became meaningless as we are now back to square one. This current removal, will continue to cause naira depreciation until we get really reasonable. For me, what the government need to do is to audit the whole process around fuel import and egress from the border and bring some people or groups to justice. That is the starting point. The next stage is to look at political office holders' emoluments- travels, estacodes, security votes etc, Save money from there first, fix the refineries, build more refineries and de-bottleneck Atlas cove discharge point before you are ready to talk about deregulation. |
Good Analysis. The problem with the government (sls, iweala, madueke) is that they use view graphs to show one part of the equation. The other part which is in fact a more serious cancer is papered over. Cut the cancer of corruption in the whole oil import process (and add NPDC and other NNPC processes into that) and tighten our borders, you will diswcover that we do not need more than N200b to subsidize fuel at 65 naira. That would have been the reasonable option for any government to pursue. Pushing the guys that pay you to the wall when they see profligacy all around you in my opinion is poor judgement, very poor judgement! |
Looking for 3 bedroom in a good place in Ikeja, Anthony , Magodo. |
Go to bed and reflect over it. I bet you will wake up with a smile and agree with me that Barca na Baba . BTW the red part makes you sound astronomically angered and bitter. Not bitter at all, but the ref has a history of cock ups. If you track refs, this one is one of the worse refs in Europe. He's got no clue. No Arsenal fan should feel bitter, because we beat Barca fair and square in London and lost to poor decisions at the Nou Camp. -Sending off, terrible. Messi also kicked a ball after the whistle. Please check out Van persies interview. He didn't hear the whistle and the time lapse was 1 sec, , 1 sec, wtf! - The penalty was a dodgy call. Plus he called fouls for Barca and none for Arsenal, despite repeated fouls committed by Barca. - Offside calls not picked up by linesmen. As for the stats, Barca will always have more possession than any team they play, that is a fact. They pass the ball around the mid very well, and because they press very hard, they can hurt you before you get a chance to clear the ball. Barca is a quality side, but against Arsenal today they needed the ref to win, which is a shame really. The most watched match in the tournament turns out to be a big farce. At this rate, decent people will be put off watching footy. |
Poor showing by the man at the center. When I saw he was the guy in charge, I knew we would see some stupid calls and we did see plenty of them. This guy refused to give a clear cut penalty for Arsenal against Braga, a game Arsenal lost. Mark my words, Barca ain't winning the champs league. They are good at passing the ball in midfield and getting offside, and men in the box, but a mentally alert team and clean match officials will expose them. Beyond that, one has to question Mr. Wenger for his team selection. What was the point of Rosicky? And add Diaby to that. With those 2 players Arsenal was already 2 man down from the get go. He has Eboue, Arsh and Ramsey, and even Dennilson (my last choice). Well, he should now concentrate on the EPL, and the FA, but against ManU and after a tiring game like this, I see Arsenal loosing again. Its greyhound day once again. The guy should learn that winning trophy starts by having a good squad. In the window, he did not deep, he now needs to do something about the deadwoods this summer. Players like Dennilson, bendtner, Daiaby, Rosicky, need to ply their trade elsewhere. Get shot of the dross and buy +promote some talents. |
Keep em coming, merci. |

It appears Deepsight is having the upper hand? But before he gets carried away, I would deflate his balloon. Deepsight there is a nature of God and a nature of man. You cannot understand God fully from our human logic. God is a two edged sword, he is the cause and effect. He causes the wound, and he heals the wound. Let me work you from the beginning si vous plait. When he created Adam and Eve, he tasked them to multiply. How would they have multiplied in their ignorance? They needed to sin , so they can multiply. After they sinned, God walked to them and asked them a seemingly innocent question? Like he never knew they had eaten the forbidden fruit. He knew but he did not need to show them that he knew. He did not need to show them that he caused them to react the way they did. He is God and we are men. Who caused Pharoah to stop the Isrealites from leaving?- God Who wanted the Isrealites out of Egypt ? - God. He made that promise to Abraham that his descendants will be slaves for @ 400years in a strange Land before they will be free. When Jacob and his sons sought refuge in Egypt, little did it occur to them that their children's children will become slaves in a strange land. That is the way of God. He is the cause and effect of all things. Lets focus on the man Jesus. He was born of the Holy Spirit, worshiped by 3 wise men who presented gifts and beheld his deity. However, when Herod sent his soldiers to look out for him, you could have asked why an angel advised his parents to run with Jesus to Egypt , rather than command an angel to destroy Herod. You see in his first incarnation his deity was not immediately consummated. A man meant to be president does not start being a president from the cradle. That is magic, everything with God is in phases and stages. His coming at that time was as man, though a special man. He realized Christhood only after he shed his blood. That was why he was now omnipresent, omniscience and omnipotent. His disciples will close their doors and he appears. He understands and addresses issues from their private conversations. He was everywhere and did not sleep and walk with them anymore. In Naija parlance - level don change. So he came in every respect as a man. If you recall, when he was turtured he told Peter , ' thinkest thou that I can call on my Father and he gives me 12 legion of angels'. That advent was not to display arrogant power as such but to bow to death. Who planned the death - God. Who was sent to die - God. But he came as man. As man he needed to be baptised to empower him with the holy spirit to do his ministry. There is a deep mystery behind the Christ coming to die as man. I would sumarise by saying that God needed someone in the form of man to be killed as a permanent sacrifice for sin to unite man back to God. I want you to understand this further by reading Hebrews 2 from 5. For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.

|
Jo is right and wrong. He is right to state that the Holy Spirit is on earth, but he is also everywhere, not just the earth. He is in the sun, the planets etc. However, Jo goes further to misinterpret John 14 John 14:16-17Jo did not really understand this passage. Christ meant that someone will come physically as he came , that was why he says A-N=O-T-H-E-R er, Christ being a first comforter. The person to come is of course God the Father, who is a Spirit as confirmed by Christ in John 4:25 . When he comes, the world would not know him, only his people will know him, the chosen ones. He will have have a duality of existence. Living in man and dwelling with man. It is not the same as the gift of the Holy Spirit which was given to empower them for their ministry. many 'Christians' are confused about this and vainly try to relate the two. The manifestation of the comforter did not come in the lifetime of the disciples. What manifested was the gift of the comforter. To understand further read all the way to John chapter 16, where the tasks to be performed by the comforter are clearly stated. So, the comforter will be dwelling with man to be seen physically as Christ was seen. If he is not seen how will he carry out all the functions stated in 16? |
Am glad we are talking about this. I have heard the most ridiculousl;y priced real estate in Nigeria - especially Lagos and Abuja. One thing for sure that is fueling this is government stealing in Nigeria and especially the in the Niger Delta with Lagos and Abuja emerging as the safe places to buy or build houses away from dynamites .However if the tax system was more efficient, perhaps the inappropriate rise in real estate prices could have been averted. It is a dumb choice to invest a million dollars in a nice part of the world or in Banana Island land. But the money is free and nobody checks, so expect it to last for some time before someone thinks its time to change. |
Guys, Was able to solve it, by typing the MTN APN. Surprised the phone did not take it on automatically |
My sim free htc desire which I had been using in the UK does not detect 3G data signals in Nigeria. I have tried MTN, Glo etc. I wonder if I need to configure VPN? Can anyone on this forum help? I talked to MTN techies in Maitama and was told that the phone needs to be unlocked! I knew straight away he was out of his depth. I can make calls, receive calls but cannot go online. |
