Before now, it was difficult to distinguish TECNO devices from other generic android phones apart from the TECNO's logo because they lack a unique user-interface that is peculiar to TECNO.

In this review, I will be looking at the HIOS , features and the ease of customization because these are the features that make your 3000mAh battery last like a 5000mAh battery.


Streamlined UI

The HiOS is designed with practicality firmly in mind; HiOS' icons are sleek, intuitive and instantly distinguishable. HiOS has a user-interface that has a clean look and it isn’t cluttered in anyway. The lock screen has a minimalist design and the same goes for the home screen.
For those who love to customize, there are different themes to choose from and I am sure that new ones will constantly be added.


The users will be able to customize the interface to suit their needs. A smarter and faster phone makes our life and business easier. After playing with the HiOS, I am impressed with what I saw, loads of online themes, fonts and wallpapers which are really beyond my imagination


The notification panel on the HIOS is more revamped and cleaner. Most of the useful apps are painstakingly arranged to remove space wastage. I particularly like the way the notification panel is customized for easy access to most apps. I can easily access the flashlight, screenshot and the battery saving app on the panel.


Hi Manager

The Hi manager is a system tool that manages the HIOS data, apps, system functionality and security. You can now increase the speed of your phone with a touch of a button thus eliminating the use of any 3rd party app that takes space and further slows your device. This saves you tonnes and tonnes of battery life.

Mobile Cleanup lets you free up space(probably residue from frequent app updates) on your device in one tap and there’s an Auto-start management section that lets you choose applications (like Facebook, WhatsApp) that start-up with your device.


New Browser built on Chromium Engine

Although a lot of people now choose between Opera Mini and Google Chrome, the new default browser on the device isn’t what it used to be. It’s redesigned and built on Chromium engine judging with the user agent we saw.

It's no news that the TECNO Boom J8 would be the first device to feature the new Tecno Hios but info has it that camon C8 users will be able to flash the new HIOS to their device

I have this girl friend of mine. We are in the same final year, she is studying Economics while I am studying business administration.

One thing about Deola (pseudo name) is her over demanding attitude. She is still in school but she wants me to buy her an air conditioner, and a Tecno Phantom 5 phone. She knows I am a Jumia rep saying I can always get those things cheaper. I can't count how many things I have bought for her but it seems she is not gonna change.

2. Take clearer low-light photos without using flash

One of the Galaxy S7’s biggest improvements compared to its predecessors is the ability to take better images in dim conditions. Samsung has increased the size of the pixels in its camera sensor, which lets it take in more light.

I found this to be true. A picture shot in a dark bar looked brighter and less grainy when taken on the Galaxy S7 versus the iPhone 6s Plus. That being said, Apple also has its own methods of improving photography in poorly lit situations. The iPhone 6s is capable of using the phone’s screen as a flash when taking photos with the front-facing camera, for instance.

3. Make a payment using your phone without NFC


Most mobile payment systems, including Apple Pay, rely on a technology called Near Field Communication (NFC) to connect your smartphone to a payment terminal. While NFC support is becoming more common in the retail world, it’s still not everywhere.

Samsung Pay, however, can be used with almost any payment terminal. That means it works just about anywhere credit cards are accepted regardless of whether or not the cash register supports NFC.

4. Charge your phone without plugging it in

Like many Android smartphones, Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 can be charged wirelessly. Rather than plugging the phone into an outlet, users can rest the device on a charging pad to replenish its battery.

The type of wireless technology built in to Samsung’s newest phones (and the Galaxy S6) is made to work with just about any charging mat available. Although some tinkerers have developed workarounds that allow wireless charging on the iPhone, the feature is not officially supported.


5. Add extra storage space

Users who store hours worth of movies, TV shows, and music on their mobile devices will appreciate this feature. Galaxy S7 owners can add more storage space to their device by popping in a new microSD card. Both phones support up to 200GB in extra storage space.

The features number 2,4 and 5 make sense for me.

Number 1 is not enough reason. I know some tecno phones whose camera comes on without you even doing anything. I mean nothing whatsoever. So it's not a bragging right.

Am in Warri Nigeria, number 3 feature can as well be removed and they should pay me the fee for that. I might never use it... Not because I don't wish to, but I may never have the opportunity.

Still trying to figure out how number 4 will work. I swear I will be charging my phone with my neighbor's electric connection... Them go pay bill tire.

I get ur point. I agree the phantom 5 is too expensive considering it is running mediatek that is not even Helios x10. But no denying the phone has flagship specs and nice build to it. It is on the same per with xioami redmi note 3 and mi 4. Both note 3 and mi 4 are sold for about 65k if u choose the 3gb version, phantom 5 is sold for about 80-90k right now (all thanks to dollar hike, original price was 70k). Still too expensive I know.

But u have to also have one thing in mind. Tecno have shops and offices in Nigeria, they pay tax, pay workers thereby creating employment. They participate in promos, (hey, they even lit up computer village) have customer support, etc. At least tecno gives u aftersales support.. Good luck funding that with xiaomi. Now how do u think they pay for all that? Xioami phones are imported, they don't have shops neither do they pay workers, they don't pay tax, no promos nothing. So u definitely expect their phones to be cheaper here. Trust me if xioami get their company registered in this country and pay all their dues, by the time they have shops,bcostimer care , pay workers, so promos, etc then the prices of their phones will be more expensive than importing them from overseas.

Oh, one more thing, do u know they newly released mi5 is not cheap? It will cost between 120-130k to get it to Nigeria. That's a quality phone but don't expect peanuts.

This is what people have failed to realise , let those other big players contribute to the economy not only milking Nigeria

A nairalander gave a few reasons why he would'nt drop his blackberry phone, so i've decided to give a few reasons on why i won't drop my symbian platform. I'm actually expecting a lot of criticism for using a symbian phone in this era....
1.Long lasting battery : the battery power of my symbian phone takes me all through the day from listening to music to watching movies etc. With my 3G network on.

2.fast browsing with less data consumption : the browsing speed of my symbian phone is very fast, its highest point is 3.5g from Glo to Airtel i dont have problems with downloading and browsing and thanks to UCbrowser i download up to 9 files at once.

3. Light and very portable : my symbian phone is very light and portable, i could put it in my pocket and you wont know i have a phone on me.

4. No Permanent Internet Connection: Nokia symbian phone requires the Internet only for short period of time. Its not the case with other Operatin systems. Their functionality is dependent on permanent data connection and the traffic in term of data of symbian phones is very minimal.

5. cheap and easy access to some social networks accessing facebook, whatsapp, twitter etc. Is very cheap on my nokia symbian.

The list goes on and on, so i don't see any reason why i'll drop my symbian anytime soon
n/b: i have a Lumia to also help me survive in this era.

You didn't do anything wrong you say when others are porting to android , your ego didn't allow you to change . One thing that is constant in this world is change. Just check the likes of Tecno and Infinix ,they are making it big in the same industry Nokia can't compete. I feel no sorry for u, you ego kills NOKIA

Download ifont from Google play store.

Android comes with font i guess because it is pre-installed on my phantom 5 . If your phone doesn't support this out of the box download ifont from play store but you must have root access

Go an android phone and let us here word .Lots of cheap Android phones ranging from Infinix , Itel ,Tecno and even Xiaomi
