Why was he arrested now and why is he only being prosecuted for these crimes (what about the crimes that he committed back then?) Because he scammed people who complained to the authorities, the authorities investigated and were able to trace the crimes to him and that's why he was arrested.

Without that there is no case. What would affect the jury is the magnitude of the crime and the impact on the victims.
