Editor’s note: The agitation for Republic of Biafra has been on the front burner of discussion in the last few months. The leader of Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu was recently granted bail after spending almost two years in detention over an alleged declaration of Biafran Republic via his radio station. In a message sent to NAIJ.com, a Facebook user, Dan Ok writes on what could happen to ethnic minorities if Biafran Republic is achieved. It is obvious that from the list of states - Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Rivers states, Igbanke in Edo State, Igala in Kogi State, and Idoma in Benue state, Biafra is not only made up of Igbo-speaking people but has other varieties and diverse cultures. Now back to the question of where the other tribes will be kept if Biafra is actualized. The relevance of a thing is determined by the role it plays at a certain time especially in the face of difficulty. A man who sits and watches his friends struggle to kill a bush meat can never eat a fat share of such meat. This is simply the truth as his friends might not even give him any share in the meat but if given, it will be out of bitterness and such meat will not amount to anything. No matter how generous those friends may be, the fact that he was there, able and strong enough to join them in the pursuit of the bush meat but he did not, maybe because he is a coward or he does not see what his friends are doing as the right thing to do, they will not see it nice at all giving him anything out of the meat. Looking at the three major secessionist groups, their leadership are all Igbos, their membership are all Igbos and the struggle over the years after the Civil War have been carried on by mainly Igbos. I begin to wonder where these people will place other tribes especially Cross River and Akwa Ibom if their dream is realized. The blood that has continued to spill after the Civil War in pursuit of Biafra is the blood of the Igbos, those who have been wounded in this after-war agitation are the Igbos, those who have been arrested and made to suffer are the Igbos, and those who are still calling for a Sovereign State of Biafra are the Igbos. What makes any of the other tribes constituting the non- existing Biafran nation think that its people will be kept in a better place if this nation finally comes true? You cannot detach the above sentiment from it. Or maybe you can but an Igbo man or woman cannot. There will always be questions like "how many of them fought with us?", “how many of them protested with us?” How many of them were arrested?", "how many of them were killed?" and so on. The born-to-rule mentality will be birthed inside the Igbos once the nation of Biafra is achieved. They will see themselves as the sole owners of such a country. Considering the level of greed in the Igbo land and how power hungry the Igbos are, they might declare to be President of Biafra for more than a thousand years to compensate them on the fight for Biafra before any other tribe can be President. In fact, all other important positions will be held only by the Igbos. Let's face reality, this feeling or sentiment of “I did It alone or we single-handedly did it" will never be overlooked. Other tribes will be fighting to get positions. The internal war that will come is unpredictable. There will be a strong feeling of Igbo superiority over other tribes. Other tribes will be made to be inferior. Yes! This is so, because the struggle is the Igbos', it was not supposed to be so, but it has been made to be so; it has become an Igbo thing and it will definitely become an Igbo nation if such nation is actualized. Let us not fool ourselves, let's face the truth. These guys will become demigods if not gods in such a nation. Following the struggle, we can all see that it is only the Igbos that are involved, but I wonder why they (Igbos) keep on carving in other states or tribes into their map when they know what they will become if the achieve Biafra. A keen follower of the struggle so far should be concerned about the question "what will be the place of other tribes or ethnic groups in the Sovereign State of Biafra?” This article does not in any way suggest my support for or my stance against the struggle for the independence of Biafra because the UN has given everyone the right to self -determination. https://www.naij.com/1103528-opinion-why-ethnic-minorities-suffer-biafran-republic-achieved.html

The Enugu State Chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has warned of dire consequences from it if the Presidency and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) went ahead with their alleged plan to frame the deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu. This is as the Youth wing of the socio- cultural body has commenced sensitization for the Igbo to obtain voters registration cards and be ready for future elections. The group, in a statement yes- terday, signed by Chief Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia, President Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu State Chapter said, “Our attention has been drawn to the revelation by a patriotic Nigerian on the plot allegedly being hatched by the Presidency and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to frame up the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu with the intention of bringing him to public opprobrium and remove him from office. “The kernel of this revelation is a plot to plant huge amounts of foreign currencies and firearms in the residence of the Deputy Senate President and use that as guise to arrest and detain him. “Even when the EFCC has denied such plot, we have reasons to believe that such plot is feasible going by the sequence of events that has taken place since June 2015.” They said the denial by the EFCC notwithstanding, “we wish to warn, in the strongest terms possible, that the Enugu State Chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo will not sit idly by and watch our son being maligned; oppressed or ridiculed by the Presidency or the EFCC. In the event of this plot being put into action, the people of Enugu State will mobilise in their numbers to resist such barefaced blackmail. “We are not unmindful of the fact that this plot gained currency with Senator Ekweremadu’s role in perfecting the bail conditions of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB), who was granted bail recently with stringent conditions. “For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Ekweremadu did what he was supposed to do in the circumstance as a firm believer in the rule of law and justice. May we reiterate our strong resolve to resist any plot against Ike Ekweremadu in the manner that has been revealed. A word is enough for the wise.” https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2017/05/06/ohanaeze-ndigbo-warns-against-plan-to-frame-ekweremadu/ |
Father to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, HRM (Eze) Israel Okwu Kanu, has declared President Muhammadu Buhari as an enemy of Igbo people because he (Buhari) allegedly harbours hatred against people of the South East. The monarch made the declaration while reacting to a question on how he will regard the President now that Kanu has been released with regards to Buhari’s initial disposition to the agitator. Speaking with The Sun, the traditional ruler said, “I wouldn’t say enemy of the family, but that of the Igbo race because I have never seen this type of hatred of a people before. Court will rule to set a person free and the president who is supposed to be the father of all will say no, making a mockery of the judiciary in the process.” On withdrawing the charges leveled against the Director of Radio Biafra, he said, “Why not, did they get any gun or knife from Nnamdi? It was his mouth he used in talking and since we have freedom of speech in the country, I don’t think he has committed any crime that will warrant him being tried in court. “It was because they have nothing substantial against him that they are trying to bring masked men as witnesses against him, God forbid. I am appealing to the Federal Government to set Nnamdi free by withdrawing all the charges, because he has not come to kill anybody.” www.dailypost.ng/2017/05/06/biafra-buhari-enemy-igbo-people-harbours-hatred-us-nnamdi-kanus-father/

A united south may not be such a bad idea (at least to check the excesses of the North), but the suspicion and rivalry taken to absurd limits no be here. |
A former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has noted that the rivalry existing between the Igbos in the South-East and the Yorubas of the South West has been the source of strength for the Hausa/ Fulani in Northern Nigeria. Recall that the leadership of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, yesterday warned the South easterners against being carried away by the recent solidarity they are getting from the Yorubas. The group went further to describe them as hypocrites, who did everything to exterminate the Igbo race during the Civil War. MASSOB was reacting to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu’s visit to Fani-Kayode’s home in Abuja few days after his release from prison. However, in what could be a reaction to MASSOB statement, the former Minister wrote via @realFFK, his twitter handle, “Division, Suspicion, acrimony and unhealthy rivalry between the Igbo and Yoruba is the oxygen that gives strength to Northern hegemony.” www.dailypost.ng/2017/05/06/igbo-yoruba-causing-hausafulani-dominance-fani-kayode/

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Thursday, called on Ndigbo not to be deceived by the recent show of solidarity to the Biafra course by the Yorubas. MASSOB took the stand in a statement signed by its leader, Comrade Uchenna Madu, where he also condemned Lt Gen Alani Akinrinade over his reported regret of the killing of unprotected Biafran civilians during the civil war. Madu said it was shocking that “suddenly, the celebrated Yoruba hero realised that he participated in error because in his face, Biafra actualization and restoration is consciously glaring, and can never be frustrated again. “After enjoying the spoils of Biafra war and benefitting from it in all sorts of ways, Akinrinade is now repentant shouting for the same true federalism General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu agitated for. “He now regrets because the cane used on the first wife is now being applied to them. When the whipping of the first wife was going on the favorite second wife was joyful and pandered to the ego of their ahusband. “Since nothing lasts forever (not even love), the second wife is suddenly at the receiving end and she now realizes how evil her husband is.” The MASSOB also advised Ndigbo to stop celebrating Femi Fani Kayode as an Igbo hero “for coincidentally attended Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s court session the day he was granted bail or because he met Nnamdi Kanu in kuje prison during his sojourn to prison for his criminal case of corruption.” Madu cautioned that “our enemies must not be celebrated more than our own heroes. “In as much as our brother Mazi Nnamdi Kanu can visit anybody he wishes, Ndigbo must learn from our past and history. “All of a sudden, Femi Fani Kayode is being celebrated now as Igbo hero because he utilises an opportunity. This is the same Femi Fani Kayode that poured invectives on Igbos last year with no singular regard or respect for Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu (Eze Igbo Gburugburu) to the extent of claiming that Ojukwu’s wife was his girlfriend; he even assaulted Iyom Bianca Ojukwu that he impregnated her. “He deliberately insulted Ndigbo and spited on the person of Ikemba. It is regrettable now that some uninformed Igbo people are singing praises of Kayode as a great champion of the Ndigbo.” “Our people need to be guided by history. MASSOB wishes to remind the people of Biafra the subtlety of Oduduwa people which was seen on the January 1966 coup that was occasioned by the unrest in the West, that was planned to release Obafemi Awolowo and install him the Prime Minister. “Things got out of hand and snowballed into a civil war. The Yorubas pitched tent with the rest of Nigeria and fought the people of Biafra to the bitter end. Awolowo who it was alleged the coup plotters wanted to install as Nigeria leader devised starvation as war strategy and £20 as poverty policy against the people of Biafra. Then, the Yoruba nation lost its voice when the going was good for them. “As Biafrans, we must be cautious because a leopard never changes its spots. Recently, there was mayhem in Ife between the Yorubas and the Hausa community. After the initial sound and fury, they have resorted to a quiet diplomacy for settlement.” www.dailypost.ng/2017/05/04/biafra-yorubas-hypocrites-dont-fooled-massob-tells-ndigbo/

Nice one. A time is coming (and it is almost here) when all Igbos (in Akwa Ibom, edo, delta, rivers, benue and in other places) will come together and unite under ONE umbrella so as to fulfill our mandate as a people. I only feel for those that dread the thought of unity among Igbos. It will surely happen. |
Why do they keep using the word 'share' as if people are being generous by posting their nude pics online? I think the right heading should be: '' Fat lady fools herself, posts her nude pictures online'' . ![]() |

By Eniola Daniel, Lagos. Sir: I write in response to Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu’s statement the other day, warning aspirants to the much coveted governorship position of Lagos State not to dare contest against his ‘son’, the incumbent governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode come 2019 elections. But the royal father should realise that with the rise of poverty in the land, more Lagosians are willing to jump into the lagoon at the slightest opportunity, as things, especially costs of living escalate by the day. These are the things Oba Akiolu should encourage his ‘godson’, Akinwunmi Ambode to do rather than campaign for election which is over two years to hold from now. In 2015, the monarch threatened to throw into the lagoon any Igbo living in Lagos that voted against Ambode who, although, has so far performed better than some of his contemporaries in the neighbouring states. Oba Akiolu, who many alleged, was under the influence of Dutch courage when he threatened the Igbo in 2015, the story some of the politicians in APC have denied, should know by now that his comment lives after him. Whatever gave the highly revered monarch the power to speak in that manner, that he can throw anyone into the lagoon, must realise that many people have already accepted the challenge. Does the office of the seven chiefs empowered to regulate the power of any Yoruba monarch still exist? If not, the office must be restored, not only to regulate but also to revive the Yoruba culture. Since Ambode government is ever ready to confront any challenges that come with governance in the state as already being witnessed in the provision of basic amenities such as road construction and repairs, medical services such as mobile clinics and enlightenment campaigns to sensitise people to government policies and others, he can still win the 2019 election without any proclamation from any godfather. And the Oba of Lagos must know that this is a free society where everyone is at liberty to vote for whoever he wishes. Oba Akiolu should stop intimidating Lagosians. https://www.guardian.ng/opinion/many-are-willing-to-jump-into-lagoon/ |

Prominent Igbo sons and daughters yesterday said that Nigeria’s unity would be enhanced when someone from the South East region is given a chance to rule the country when the tenure of the present administration elapses. Former governor of Enugu State, Okwesilieze Nwodo made the call at the International Easter Retreat for Ndigbo at home and the Diaspora hosted by the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu in Uburu, Ebonyi State. He urged Nigerians to support the Igbo presidency because it was a veritable means of achieving the desired unity in the country.Nwodo said: “The Igbo are the most detribalized people in Nigeria and an Igbo president would ensure fairness and justice to all groups of people in the country which would guarantee fairness. “An Igbo president would ensure that all tribes are treated equitably because if he fails, Igbo residing in these tribes would bear the brunt of his misrule through attacks and otherwise.” He noted that an Igbo president would therefore, not want to endanger the lives and property of his people as this would make him ensure that all segments of the country receive equal treatment. “Nigeria should be restructured to ensure that all ethnic groups harness their economic potentials to ensure the development of the country. He called on the governors of the South-East states to make lands available for the establishment of an export-free zone to bring the desired economic empowerment and enhancement of the Igbo. Speaking, Onu thanked the organisers of the event and noted that it would proffer solutions to the nagging problems confronting the Igbo nation.“Igbo and Nigerians should depend less on importation of foreign commodities in order to come out of recession and ensure economic growth and sustainability,” he said. Professor of Political Economy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka(UNN) Prof. Obasi Igwe, noted that the present geo- political zone structure in the country does not favour the South East, adding: “The Igbo should look ahead of this arrangement and political parties to get economic and social freedom to achieve its goals and develop their region. Stakeholders from across the country and the Diaspora used the occasion to share their thoughts on how to develop the Igbo race and meet its political and social aspirations. www.guardian.ng/news/nwodo-onu-urge-igbo-unity-to-actualise-presidency/
