Anybody here applying to TUM for MS Power Engineering WS2018? Does it matter that the document downloaded from the site where we're to fill in our best 150 credits says Winter Semester 2017/2018 even though we're applying for WS2018/1019?

Please guys. I'm stuck at the document upload page. I can only upload my Birth certificate, Waec result, Identification letter. My NYSC and First Degree cert have refused to upload. I have resized, changed formats, resized again, renamed, kolewerk. And I can't move forward without uploading these docs. Is anyone else experiencing this? E tire me gan.

Good to be here. So I'm an RWTH hopeful for MS in Power Engineering. I have just filled the weirdest online application form ever. No motivational statement required, no reference letters required, no application fee. I am coming off applying to US schools so this seems weird to me to the extent that i am confused. Perhaps i am applying wrongly, idk. Are there other people here applying to the same school to assure me that i am not insane?

P.S. With a Nigerian CGPA of 4.36/5.00, 105 TOEFL and 321 GRE (Q163, V158), do i stand a chance of getting admitted or should i look elsewhere?

One could get lucky with the nature of their questions (if the first 2 Qs in my first GRE counted as my graded tests I am sure I would have clocked that score above). However, some are just incredibly skilled at Mathematics such that no matter the level of difficulty, they would get the answers in record time. I sometimes watch the Cowbellpedia and I see these Junior Secondary School students pulverize word problems in seconds. With that type of background, many of them will get near perfect GRE quant scores - I have no doubts.

The senior secondary category is even slightly above the nature of GRE questions (devoid of the traps ofcourse). I get tempted to write down their names to Google it few years forward in a bid to see what they would have done with such skillery in mathematics. I might still do it.

There is one silent viewer on this thread who got a cool 170 in his Quants in August. The guy is such a genius that he is going to retake the tests just so he could up his verbal reasoning scores. This particular guy will easily replicate > 165 again in his Quants. He is that good.

Wow. Who's this silent reader that scored 170? He should "unsilent" himself and tell us how he did it. Lol. Some people are just naturally gifted tbh. They could score 170 with very minimal preparation.

Wrote the TOEFL on friday. It was uhm.. interesting. The notefull videos on youtube really helped especially for the speaking section. Find a speaking template that works for you and keep practising with it. Try to give a good answer within the given time. During the exam, test takers may take different sections at different times. Someone might be taking the speaking while you're taking the listening. This can be distracting. So concentration is key. I believe you can get a decent score.

Woah. Nice scores bro, especially the speaking score. A speaking score of 26 is usually the cutoff for TAs from my research and it seems you're good to go. Please, how did you prepare for the speaking section though? Writing my TOEFL on the 3rd of Nov.

My problem with some of these schools like Renssalaer poly is that they require official transcript. Don't they know it requires money to request transcripts. God help us all.

They don't know eh. Mans not rich. But soon bro, it will all end in praise. I really think you stand a chance of getting admitted with your profile and GRE score. You can give it a shot.

Are you applying for a direct PhD or Masters in either school? Be careful; even though the app fees are waived, you'd still send official score reports of GRE and/or TOEFL.

Schools that habitually waive app fees tend to reject apps the same way. They have an angle they are working from which has been discussed on this thread in the past.

Miracles happen but as a matter of principle, try to guage the profiles of those rejected and accepted via Grad cafe to know if it is worth the headache. Without a Masters these days some of those top schools are hard to get in. But you could get the masters admit and be fully-funded. It is not unheard of.

Thanks for this insight. I'm applying for Masters in these schools. I figured there was not much to lose from applying to these schools that waive app fee but on seeing that I may need to send official scores and transcript, I'm beginning to reconsider applying. Northeastern university however allows one to upload unofficial docs and scores. And they had for long been spamming my mail so I emailed grad cord requesting for an app fee waiver. A quick search on gradcafe revealed my profile is sufficient for an admission. Funding is what I'm not sure of. I hope it turns out in my favour. Praying for a miracle. #YesWeCan

Nevada has a fee waiver for qualified engineering PhD applicants. You only need to send your unofficial test scores to an email address listed on their website. Check to see if you qualify. I am only sure about Ohio university's chemical engineering PhD program. You just need to send your test scores to an email listed on their site too. Check other engineering departments, the same may apply.
On another note, if you have really high scores (close to 90th percentiles) and you don't already have fee waivers from U of Notre Dame and Rensselaer Poly Institute, send a mail to the grad coordinators, with your scores, and ask if you are eligible. These last two schools are very good, worth trying if you have nice scores. Good luck.

You can check Vanderbilt, though you have to send official scores. Also, if you have good GRE scores and TOEFL/IELTS scores, you can request for an application fee waiver from University of Ohio and University of Nevada, Reno.
Some schools have relatively cheap application fees for engineering. Check U of Utah ($15) and Johns Hopkins U ($25). Good luck with your applications!


NB: All these are based on Fall, 2017 application cycle and Chemical Engineering. Though I believe it's the same for other engineering courses and hasn't changed.

I was unhappy and disappointed and I feel I messed up because I expected more(when MIT is drawing you wetin you go do na), however in all things I give thanks. But one thing I learnt is to prepare better
I had to change schools like MIT and introduce plan B schools like;
University of Texas Austin
Texas A and M university
University of Notre Dame
Colorado School of Mines ( na confusion make me add this one)
