This is so great. Pays to be well prepared. Congrats to your sister and I wish her the best in her studies.

jyemsta:
My younger sister VISA APPROVED...................................

I got her I-20 about 10 days ago and i remembered not finding a date earlier than December 18th. My trick for getting a closer date (November 18th ) was to check the USA embassy website between 1am - 2:30 am, your chances of getting better date is higher.

My little advice: When applying to schools, please be involved in the process because it gives you at least 20% of your answers during interview. Although she was just out of secondary school, i made her write a SOP demanded by one of the schools (that gave her clear vision) and i sent her compiled transcript i downloaded on this forum for personal study. 8 days to her interview, i paid my cousin who recently finished NYSC to go and train/sharpen her interview skills for the last 7 days........They have 3 sessions of interview daily and i call in at midnight to conduct the 4th and check her progress. After the first 3 days of shaking, she became so confident and i knew what was left is PRAYERS......
Depending on your personality, always get someone to conduct series of interviews with or you stand in front of a mirror and practice like you mean it...........Say it out with strong expression and you realize they stick.........

You: Good morning
VO: Good morning

Good day nairalanders and I have a question, please I need your opinion as I am not well experienced in this.

Aim: To land full funding/scholarship in Us
Course of Interest: Quantitative finance, Actuarial science, Data science or any applied statistics course.
Bsc: 3.4/4.0 wes conversion
Studied Statistics in Futo.
2yrs + in Access Bank PLC as Data analyst.
Certifications: Banking and finance @ Access School of Excellence, Data science certification @ Microsoft and PWC,
Someone talked me into writing GRE Maths as I have great strength in Maths and doing GRE general test will make me do the verbal which might make me not to score extremely high.

1.Can I get full funding with an extreme high GRE maths subject score in the Us without doing the GRE general test with my profile?

2. What schools would be best to apply to with my profile?,

Thanks my beloved nairalanders as I need your advice.

I think it depends on the school's requirements but I'd advise to take the general exam and score a very high Quant score. There're numerous materials that'll help you score above a 150 in verbal which should be sufficient.
Regarding the schools, I know many math and statistics programs are well funded especially at phd level. Search on gradcafe and narrow down your list of schools. You can try Auburn University.

Congratulations bro! This made me so happy

My Transcript

Visa approved at Lagos Embassy, 30th July 2019

School: Clarkson University

Funding: 66,000$ (Tuition and stipends)

Course : Msc Chemical Engineering

This was my 9th attempt, 7 in Lagos, 2 in Abuja

Here is my today's visa transcript:

V.O: (Looked at my i20) I see you have a teaching assistantship, what will you be teaching?

Me: I will be assisting prof. ... in grading students papers, invigilating test and exams, other teaching duties will be assigned upon resumption

V.O: what was your undergraduate Major?

Me: chemical engineering

V:O Where do you work and what's your duties?

I currently work as a process engineer at D***y Industries Limited and stated my duties

V.O: (Started typing for a long time and checking his system, he was shaking his head too and my mind was beating fast.) He asked, have you travelled outside the country before?

Me: Yes, I have been to Ghana

V.O: is it by flight or road and how many times

Me: I travelled by road and that was sept last year and came back same month

V.O: (Went to meet another V.O, he stayed there for like 4mins, I don't know what they were discussing). After he came back, he asked... What's your plans after graduation?

Me: Upon completion of my masters degree, I will be resuming a new position at my current place of work as a senior process engineer and I am going to be on a paid study leave (I brought out the letter, he saw it and said he doesn't need it, I pushed my letter back to my file).

V.O: (Typing for a very long time and checking stuffs on his system) you have been to Abuja embassy last time, what transpired there?

Me: During my last interview, the V.O wasn't convinced that I am a credible student and hence I was refused. I have come to demonstrate my credibility as a student, I wrote GRE and scored 324, had a good grade (1st class) and believe i definitely do very well during my masters studies at Clarkson University. (He nodded)

V.O: (Started typing again and checking stuffs on his system), You applied for safety science at Embryl Riddle Aeronautical University in 2017, why the switch to chemical engineering (For my mind, e don come again o)

Me: That's was when I finished my National Youth Service and was working with a firm so i needed to increase my safety knowledge but since I changed place of work and now dealing with chemicals, I needed to develop knowledge in the area of chemical catalysis and plasma processing which will be needed when I resume a new position at my place of work. (He nodded)

V.O: Do you have anybody in USA?

Me: No, I don't have anybody

V.O: (Typed for ages, for like 2mins and was checking his system, my mind was beating fast. He took my passport and those blue papers, I was like it's finished, another refusal. Immediately he brought out the white paper and circled a location, then said the golden words) YOUR VISA HAS BEEN APPROVED, then passed my i20 and sevis receipt

Me: collected my i20 and shouted Thank you sir!!! I ran out of the embassy and people were shouting what is it, I was running till i reached where I entered cab to my house cos it was like a dream or like i was watching a movie.

That's it... I saw God's favour today

I want to apply to a business school in Paris and my CGPA in school is 4.43/5 and I have 9 years work experience.

I'm guessing Insead yh? Tbh, your scores aren't so bad. A 304 should get you into some good schools especially since your whole profile will be considered. Luckily, your GPA and work experience would help in this regard. I do hope there's some sort of growth in your job roles over the years. Also, extra curricular activities and volunteering would help boost your profile.

Please also consider some US business schools. Maybe those highly and mid ranked schools. Michigan state, Penn state, Mendoza, Fisher, Questrom, etc. You may be lucky to get a scholarship especially when you apply before the round one deadline.

You can rewrite the GRE if you have the wherewithal, otherwise, I think you can work with what you have.

Dude, you really believe in creationism cheesy grin With the wealth of information available?
The vacuum you talk about is depicted in your essay, and sadly it is a vacuum of knowledge.

As DeGrasse Tyson says, 'God' is the ever receding pocket of scientific ignorance." That is to say the more ignorant you are of the nature and working of things (universe, plants, animals, insects, advanced soceities etc) the bigger your god. Ponder on this for a moment, and let it challenge you to seek knowledge, at least to know an alternate explanation for the universe if by some slim chance your 'God' happened not to create anything. One doesn't need to know all the science but only read and learn from professionals who've devoted their lives to studying nature, the universe ... whatever

Again, "The gods people worship look like them and desires what they desire" Any wonder why the Nigerian god grants visas and loooves money, fraud and fraudsters? The almighty God of the chimps wouldn't be a dog, would it? Even if it was, it would surely crack nuts with their bum cheesy

Again, Twoods is right in his description of Christianity and its God. You only need to read the 4 gospels to know the kind of man/God Jesus was and contrast that with the charade of pentecostalism and its 'america wonder' Jesus in Nigeria. It's very easy to tell those who have actually read the bible in context.

This thread is for aspiring intellectuals but it is underwhelming disappointing the way it's all about God. People can't post useful information before fantasising about their cherished beliefs. Don't you guys even in the least reason that there are even more people getting US visas that don't believe in what you believe?

Religion and gods should be personal, whatever rocks your boat, but don't come here asking people to fast and pray for a visa when Leah Sharibu and others have been in captivity since forever and Nigeria tops countries with highest persecution of christians. Seriously, what are the priorities of this Nigerian visa god?

Pray, fast, sacrifice a goat, whatever but let's leave those for our churches, and shrines. I've observed that the Muslim God isn't mentioned much here, maybe he isn't in charge of visas cheesy

Haha. Reads like an excerpt from El Nathan John's Becoming Nigerian.

SHARWAMA'S APPROVED VISA TRANSCRIPT.
Date: June 7, 2019
Venue: Lagos Consulate
Time:6:30 a.m
Gender of VO: Male
Window: I Didn't notice, I was blown away by his cuteness and jerry curl grin grin grin
Ok it was the second to last window, before the exit door.
I: (Smiling) Good morning sir
V.O: Good morning, please pass me your passport and your I-20.
I did and he was like "please push your passport a little bit further". I pushed it and asked, "is it okay now sir?"
VO: Yes it is. Why are you going to the US
I: (deep breath + killer smile) To uhm, pursue a masters degree in Biology, Biomedical Science Concentration at East Tennessee State University, Johnson City Tennessee.
V.O: Why this degree?
I: I really want to work as a research scientist at a renowned biomedical research Institute here in Nigeria. Unfortunately, a masters degree in Biology or a closely related field is the minimum requirement for such a position. So this degree would not just help me hone my research skills or build my critical thinking, it would qualify me for the position I really want, when I return.
V.O: So why did you pick this school?
I: (Gesticulating with magical hands) For me, it wasn't just about the generous funding I received, which I am extremely grateful for by the way, it had a lot more to do with the student-faculty relationship I have built with my potential supervisor, professor Burna boy. We Skyped a couple of times and we have chosen a thesis topic I am super excited about.
V.O: What other schools did you apply to?
I: I applied at Texas A&M University, Commerce
VO: uhum(while typing)
I: Cleveland State University Ohio and Kansas State University Manhattan Kansas.
VO: Have you travelled out of the country before?
I: I have not had the need to sir.
VO: Are you married
I: No sir
V.O: You said you have funding, let me see the evidence
I: My school did not give me an official letter but it's on the I-20(I pointed at the document so he looked at it)
V.O: Ok I see $9590 to be payed by someone ,who is this?
I: That's my mum sir
V.O: What does she do?
I: My mum is a business woman, she sells African fabrics and traditional bridal attires
V.O: Yes do you have any proof, I want to see evidence.
I was confused and he mentioned "or bank statement"
I: (Killer smile)Yes, with all pleasure. Just a moment please.
So I got the bank statement
V.O(while looking at the statement) Doesn't your mum have other children to sponsor in school?
I: (I never expected that question, so my English technically failed me, so I looked at him and answered) All of us have finished school, it remainder two of us.
I was so embarrassed about my grammatical blunder but I was glad he understood the point, we were all done with school except two of my siblings.
V.O: Ok, I will be approving your Visa. He hands me the white paper. Talked about pick up in three working days, gave me back my SOA and I-20, asked me to keep it carefully and I would need the latter at the port of entry... Told me to have a wonderful day
I: (Killer smile) Thank you and have a wonderful rest of the day too.
Yup, I bounced out of the building grin
THE END grin grin grin

Congrats Shawarma! So happy for you. See you in Trumpland.

Hello gurus in the house... When you have many schools to apply to, for admission; and each has its own application fees, amounting to large sum of money.
In this case, is there any way to get application fee waiver!

Hi. You can mail some schools requesting for application fee waivers stating your inability to cover the costs atm. You might get lucky. Also, you should be on the lookout for schools that provide application fee waivers like Renneselaer Polytechnic institute, IIT, Rice, etc. Colorado state Uni allows you to apply for free and you only get to pay the app fee after you've been admitted. Some schools also provide waivers when they're celebrating an anniversary or something of the sort. Last year, for instance, university of Maryland college park provided waivers for PHD applications in the electrical department.

You could also get waivers from attending webinars organised by these schools. I know Northeastern does this too.

The point is to always be on the lookout for waivers while you mail schools requesting for such.

Goodluck.

I was interviewed by the same VO as @Leone26.

Moi: (Oh yeah, this is looking good... I think.)
VO: (Returns with a few copies of EducationUSA pre-departure orientation information sheet. Apparently, she hadn't kept any with her, perhaps because she wasn't expecting to give out more that day. She removes one, tucks the rest away... she picks up the coveted white paper. grin)
VO: (Says something about approving my visa.)
Moi: Thank you. (Oh no, should I really have said that? I bet she'd merely done her job; she wasn't doing me no favor.)
VO: (Starts to say something about my "original I-20." She was emphatic. I guess it was the usual POE speech.)
Moi: (I didn't quite hear what she was saying, perhaps it was the rush of positive emotion.)
VO: (Nods and smiles at me. All of a sudden, she seemed like a friend who has your best interest at heart, not kidding.)
Moi: (I was elated.)
VO: Pick up your passport...

At this point, my legs had begun to move, I must confess. She was still speaking; I didn't catch the last thing she said. For a split second, after I had left her window, I thought she'd have the CGI guy call me back so she could complete what she was saying.

Sometime after I got home, I ran a visa status check and my application was on Administrative Processing. I did that again earlier today and... "Issued."

Yesterday I mentioned the place of prayer. I wasn't just referring to firefighting, or to prayer that began at some point before or after I applied for the F1 visa. I believe God does process, not magic. I was referring to the place of prayer when I joined an American MNC years ago, when I got to go on my first overseas trips (sponsored by the same organization), when I got to apply for a B1/B2 armed with an "American MNC" job home tie plus some travel history, and when I got to add even more travel history––just because I could then afford personal trips.

What's the upshot here? My F1 visa success story was apparently years in the making. God doesn't just answer prayers because you prayed; no, you don't get to use Him to achieve selfish ends. As far as answered prayer is concerned, your lifestyle counts.

Everyone has a message, and I hope I just got mine across.

God bless you!

Congratulations. Yours is a story of tenacity. Extremely happy for you and I wish you the best in all your endeavors.

If you don't mind my asking, what school and what course?

Good evening everyone. I appreciate the efforts of everyone making reasonable contributions on this thread. I'm new to this thread, I have been reading through the pages but in order to save myself some time, let me drop my questions.

I just want to start processing my application for a masters programme in the US, hope admission is still open in most schools?

What are the processes involved and how do I find affordable schools that offer Masters programme for options in Electrical and Electronics engineering?

I graduated with a 'not too impressive 2'1', can I still get roles as a GA or TA and how do I go about this ?

Thanks in anticipation. Blessings..

Good day House. Congrats to the recent approvals and goodluck to others who are yet to be interviewed.

I dont know if this has been asked before but what is the general rule on entry to the US? My school is in Alabama but I want to spend some time with a relative in Louisiana before heading to Alabama. Will this be frowned upon on the PoE? I did mention that I had a relative in Louisiana during my interview so I personally dont think it's a problem. I just want to confirm from the house before booking my flight.

Thanks in advance.

Visa approved this morning at the Lagos consulate.
Got to the embassy around 5:30am for a 6:30am appointment. Joined the queue, did my biometrics and proceeded Window 2 for my interview. My interview was very short. This is my transcript as I remember:

V.O: Good morning.
Me: Good morning. How was your weekend.
V.O: Very well. Can you pass your documents please?
*passes documents and she examines them for about 10 seconds
V.O: So How did you get to know about this school?
Me: When I decided to apply to graduate school, I made research online about schools that offered research on grid integration of renewable energy resources and I came about Auburn University, amongst others.
V.O: How many other schools did you apply to?
Me: 8
V.0: Have you heard from all?
Me: No. I haven't heard from 3 schools.
V.O: How many schools have you been admitted to?
Me: 3 schools.
V.O: Can you name the schools you haven't heard from?
Me: I haven't heard from Iowa State, Virginia Tech and RPI.
V.O: Okay. Are you married?
Me: No.
V.O: Are you single?
Me: Yes I am.
V.O: Do you have any kids?
Me: No I dont.
V.O: Do you have any relative in the US?
Me: Yes, an aunt.
V.O: Where in the US is she?
Me: She's in Louisiana.
V.O: Congratulations, your visa will be ready in 3 days. You can pick it up at this location. You'll get a text from us when it is ready. Have a nice day.

Lol. To think I prepared all weekend to talk about my research and that wasn't even asked at all. Wasn't asked for GRE or Toefl scores or my funding. Felt rather anticlimatic as I was ready to answer questions about my research. lol. But regardless, I give thanks to God.

Grateful for this thread as it was very helpful in my preparation. Goodluck to everyone and see you in Trumpland or whoever owns the land in 2020.

I woke up by 5:04 AM, and proceeded to fry egg, and toast 6 bread slices, for break fast. I went over all my strategies once more, and boarded a bus to Law school B/Stop. Then I trekked down to dragnet prometric. I made small talk with a lady I met there.
AWA
I went through the AWA quickly and confidently, writing about 900 words for each essay. The keyboard I got was better than the last time, so i had ample time to proofread.
VERBAL
I prayed for a first verbal section fervently, because I realized that would mean no experimental Quant section ( which I feel bleeped me up last time). So I was really happy when I got a verbal section first. I went through it in 15 Mins (I don't waste time on verbal). And I rightly predicted, I got three verbal sections. I really didn't care which one
RESULT
QUANTITATIVE- 169
VERBAL - 162
TOTAL - 331

Had my visa interview on Monday and here is the transcript.

V.O: Good morning
Me: Good morning

V.O: Pass me your passport
Me: (Passed my Passport, I20 and sevis receipt)

V.O: Did you apply to any other school?
Me: I applied to seven other schools.

V.O: You applied to seven other schools? (She was a bit surprised)
Me: Yes (Actually applied to nine schools)

V.O: Why did you choose this school?
Me: Well, it was actually a tough one. I was awarded a fellowship by the school and given a graduate assistantship by the department. Also, my adviser Dr. Pierson was really keen on having me (stuttered a bit here) and went out of his way to convince me to join his research team. Most importantly, his research work on additive manufacturing, industrial automation and cobots are a perfect fit for me because this was what I worked on in my undergraduate research project, so it's more like a step up. ( she was listening and typing all through. Even after I finished she kept on typing for a while before asking the next question)

V.O: Which engineering are you going for? (My I20 only had "General Engineering " as the course of study)
Me: Industrial Engineering

V.O: Do you have any one in the US?
Me: Yes, my uncle.

V.O: Are you single?
Me: Yes, I'm.

V.O: (brought out the white paper and circled the pickup location before giving it to me.) It will be ready after 3 working days...... you will need your I20 at the point of entry...
Me: Thank you.

Thanks to everyone especially those that took time to share their transcript, they were really helpful. I pray those preparing for their interview shall get their own with ease.

Congratulations. Enjoy Fayettville

Please theres this portion in the ds160 form where they asked who's paying for your trip. In there, I put my fathers details.

Although I received an assistantship that covers the cost in my i20, I still want to take an SOA to the embassy just in case but the SOA I plan to take is my uncle's not my dad's.

Can the ds160 form be edited after submission? If yes, do I need to change the information on who will be paying for my trip from my father to my uncle?

I've never claimed to know it all. And yes, I know a hell lot which is why I have the confidence of sharing my knowledge with people and helping them take the right strategies in their business education.

You always talk about this 5 years thing and I've always mentioned that it is not a problem at all. So, don't use that to scare me. I interact daily with people that secured their MBAs in the 80s, 90s and early 00s. I know how the trend works and there is nothing that will happen in the next 5, 10 or 20 years that will surprise me at all.

Hi bracelum,

Are you a protective MBA candidate? Are you already in the system? Are you an MBA alumnus?
