Halpher: u r jst talking ni andAlbeit, I seldom give up on a student going astray, I think this would be an exception. So painful! You can continue preparing for exams the way you deem appropriate. Good luck. |
Have you ever heard "diluted water" before? Or what do you think dilution mean? I really hope and pray you find your way before it becomes too late Halpher: Thank you Sire! Because it propably have the tendency to donate and still attract an ion of another element or compound itself, and the word hygroscopic for this type of liquid compound said it will be dilluted instead of forming a solution.jst straight and simple.Tanx! |
Marc9: LOOL!Do you know what worries me most? He's happy and not worried about this at all? |
Halpher: Since compound is the combination of two or more element, and we have three type of compound which is Hygroscopic, deliquescent and efflorescent! Therefore water is a good example of an Hygroscopic compound. Tanx sirePlease who will help me make this guy see that he's wrong o, I don tire and I don't want him to fail. Halpher: Please O.what mistake did I made? About the defination and an example of hygroscopics Compound? Nawa OLOL! If I dare? Water ain't hygroscopic, simple. |
Halpher: proof me wrong, and back it up with a reason!Hygroscopic substances absorb or adsorb moisture(water) when exposed to the atmosphere and do not form a solution, so they either become sticky(solids) or increase in volume(liquids) which also results in dilution. They could be solids or liquids in some cases like that of methanol, ethanol or sulfuric acid |
Halpher: Thank you for the question cos it is a definate article, and to your question sire! YES it propably can absorb moisture.Eh! I'm really scared for this generation of students o. May God help the future of Nigeria o. |
Halpher: From your defination I could deduced that you don't understand the word Hygroscopic compound! Xo stick to your Limit of understanding on that.lol! instead of you to admit your mistake and learn, your telling me to stick to my limit of understanding. SMH! My dear, I'm saying this again, there isn't any chance under any circumstance that water is a hygroscopic substance. If you like agree; and if you don't, good luck. LOL |
Halpher: Since compound is the combination of two or more element, and we have three type of compound which is Hygroscopic, deliquescent and efflorescent! Therefore water is a good example of an Hygroscopic compound. Tanx sireAh! Where is this one coming from o. Water a hygroscopic substance? Urrrgh... What are hygroscopic substances to start with? Hygroscopic is a property of a substance to absorb or adsorb water from its surroundings. Examples: Zinc chloride, sodium chloride and sodium hydroxide crystals are hygroscopic. |
youngpascal: M not saying m correct, I only answered your questions...let the "guruz" mark it plz.oxy-acetylene flame is used in welding. Calcium gives a brick-red coloured flame and not lilac |
abihenry: myself nd my skul mate obtained dual DE (funaab n U.I) buh we were unable tu register for post DE for U.I buh we were able tu register for funaab cus funaab is d first form obtained, we made d complaint on U.I helpdesk nd we were told d prob is frm jamb n we went jamb office (ibadan),d man we met said deir is no chance for dual registratn(jamb has a software dat shows a particular aspirant dat obtained dual form) dat dey wil cancel one out. Of d 2. Even d man told us as at last year deir is d chance buh a candidate has bleeped up last year, d man said a guy obtained 7 D.E forms nd were given admission for 5 universityAbba! kilode |
DrHesjay: You see.. the problem we have as Nigerian students is that we rely too much on textbooks for things... d matter is actually complex. |
Marc9: Una too like wahala eh! The young man said.... U aren't taller than me. Is than acting as a preposition in dat context? Eh? I corrected him based on his usuage of than( as conjunction).ok, apparently, you're not the type that will accept the fact that someone else might be right on something you think you know. Please, let's try to always update ourselves, English language evolves constantly. #peace http://www.grammar-monster.com/lessons/than_I_me_than_he_him.htm Check out this link and if you still think "than" can't be used as a preposition in the context we're talking about, I rest my case cos there's no point in arguing with a professor of your calibre. |
Marc9: lolAlbeit, I'm still a learner when it comes to the use of English o, but you don't expect me to disregard OALD which was compiled by the owners of the language itself just because of what you also read somewhere. it's true that "she's taller than me" is informal but it is not wrong. The word "than" be treated as proposition in ordinary speeches and writings. Check all the guides on the usage of "than", you'll see what I'm talking about. #peace http://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/english/tall http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/than http://www.wordreference.com/definition/than |
Whether than is to be followed by the objective or subjective case of a pronoun is much discussed in usage guides. When, as a conjunction, than introduces a subordinate clause, the case of any pronouns following than is determined by their function in that clause: He is younger than I am. I like her better than I like him. When than is followed only by a pronoun or pronouns, with no verb expressed, the usual advice for determining the case is to form a clause mentally after than to see whether the pronoun would be a subject or an object. Thus, the sentences he was more upset than I and she gave him more sympathy than I are to be understood, respectively, as he was more upset than I was and she gave him more sympathy than I gave him. In the second sentence, the use of the objective case after than(She gave him more sympathy than me) would produce a different meaning (She gave him more sympathy than she gave me). This method of determining the case of pronouns after than is generally employed in formal speech and writing. Than occurs as a preposition in the old and well-established construction than whom :a musician than whom none is more expressive. In informal, especially uneducated, speech and writing, than is usually treated as a preposition and followed by the objective case of the pronoun: He is younger than me. She plays better poker than him, but you play even better than her |
Marc9: In case u come across dis in GNS(english), the rite sentence is ... U aren't taller than I (or I am), not 'than me', cos "than" is a conjunction that joins two sentences together, and every sentence begins with a subject, and "I" is a subjective personal pronoun, while "me" is an objective personal pronoun. U don too repeat d err like 6 times, so I say mai help correct am. Hope u understand?Sorry o, but why was it used as an example in Oxford advanced learner dictionary if it isn't correct? check "tall" |
