Crime / Names Of Kidnappers Of Margaret Emefiele, Gang Leader, Soldiers, Others (pics) by maxism2: 6:50pm On Oct 10, 2016
Nearly N15m, along with three motor vehicles and an AK 47 rifle, were recovered from the nine kidnappers of Margaret Emefiele, wife of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, who was rescued last week, the Nigeria Police confirmed on Monday.

At a press briefing on Monday addressed by DCP Don N. Awunah, the police Public Relations Officer, he named the nine suspects, who are now under arrest, as including two soldiers. He said the gang, aged 26-36, was led by one Mohammed Abubakar (aka Dogo), 29.

i. Lance Corporal Musa Maidabra ‘M’ 28 years
ii. Lance Corporal Edwin George ‘M’
iii. Ernest Anthony Uduefe ‘M’ 32 years (dismissed Soldier)
iv. Mohammed Abubakar A.K.A Dogo ‘M’ 29 years (Gang Leader)

v. Mohammed Musa ‘M’ 26 years
vi. Mohammed Sule ‘M’ 26 years
vii. Ibrahim Abdullahi ‘M’ 30 years
viii. Aliyu Musa ‘M’ 30 years
ix. Mohammed Yusuf ‘M’ 36 years

“The Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris NMP, is committed in ensuring that all forms of crime, fear of crime and particularly kidnap for ransom and other violent crimes are brought to the lowest ebb throughout the country,” the statement affirmed.

It added that the IGP was determined to make sure that all those who are engaged in kidnappings, abductions and armed criminal activities will not escape justice, to which end the police will galvanize available resources at its disposal to make sure miscreants, hoodlums and deviants have their day with the law.

“Against this background, the IGP had ordered the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and other tactical teams to swing into action to rescue Mrs. Margaret Emiefele, the wife of the Central Bank Governor unhurt and apprehend all those remotely or directly responsible for the dastardly act,” DCP Awunah said.

Mrs. Emiefele and three of her aides were abducted on Benin-Agbor Road in Delta State on September 29 but were swiftly rescued the following the day.

“The Nigeria Police Force will continue to limit the capacity of kidnappers and other criminals to disrupt the quality of life of Nigerians by the deployment of adequate manpower and resources in crime reduction, detection and effective prosecution of offenders in courts of competent jurisdiction,” Mr. Nwanah said.

While confirming that a ransom was paid for Mrs. Emefiele, he said it is a tool that is sometimes used as a bait or bargaining chip to save the lives of the victims of crime.

“It is also absolutely important to mention that the Police do not and will not encourage payment of ransom,” he said, advising relatives of victims of kidnapping to exercise “considerable caution” in such circumstances.

“It is inherently counterproductive,” the statement stressed. “At all times of kidnap scenario, it is pertinent the Police are involved and trusted.”

Science/Technology / See Countries Where No Single Snake Exists And Other Snake Facts by maxism2: 9:04am On Aug 02, 2016
THE COUNTRIES WHERE NO SINGLE SNAKE EXISTS AND OTHER SNAKE FACTS

You can find snakes everywhere on Earth but you will never find them in Ireland, Iceland, New Zealand, the North and South Poles and Antarctica. This is because during the ice age, the snakes could not move to these areas because of the cold. So if you hate snakes with a passion, just move to any of these countries and you will never see your enemy again.
The Black Mamba is NOT black at all; in fact, it is olive or greenish gray. It got its name from the colour of the insides of its mouth.
The 5 most venomous snakes in the world are the inland taipan, the eastern brown snake, the coastal taipan, the tiger snake, and the black tiger snake. Many people that encounter these snakes have the snakes' faces as the last things they ever saw. Alive.
Snakes do not have eyelids;what they have is a single transparent scale called a brille that protects their eyes. They don't blink and also sleep with their eyes open.
Some animals, such as the Mongoose, are immune to snake venom. That is why snakes to them, are delicacies.
The heaviest snake in the world is the anaconda. It weighs over 270 kg and can grow to over 9m (30 feet) long. It can eat Jaguars, and other animals of such size.
The death adder has the fastest strike of any snake in the world. It can attack, inject venom, and go back to striking position in less than 0.15 seconds.
Not all snakes lay eggs…Approximately 70% of snakes lay eggs. Those that lay eggs are called oviparous. The other 30% of snakes live in colder climates and give birth to live young because it is too cold for eggs outside the body to incubate.
The most violent snake in the world is believed to be the black mamba. It has the most highly evolved venom delivery system of any snake on Earth. It can strike up to 12 times in a row, though just one bite is enough to kill a grown man.
Some snakes have been known to eat more than their capacity and explode. For example, a 13-foot python blew up after it tried to eat a 6-foot alligator. The python was found with the alligator’s tail protruding from its midsection. Its head was missing.
There are flying snakes. What these snakes do is not really flying but gliding. There are 5 species of such snakes; growing up to 4 feet, some types can glide up to 330 feet through the air.
A snake’s fangs usually last about 6–10 weeks. When a fang wears out, a new one grows in its place.
The longest snake ever recorded is the reticulated python. It can reach over 33 feet long, which is big enough to swallow a pig, a deer, or even a person.
If you are asked for the most poisonous snake in the world, you would probably say the Black Mamba but the black mamba is not the most poisonous snake in the world. That title goes to the Inland taipan. It is the world’s most toxic snake, meaning it has both the most toxic venom and it injects the most venom when it bites. Its venom sacs hold enough poison to kill up to 80 people.
Some venomous snakes have died after biting and poisoning themselves by mistake.
The black mamba is the world’s fastest snake and the world’s second-longest venomous snake in the world, after the king cobra. Found in Africa, it can reach speeds of up to 12 mph (20km/h). It’s named not from the color of its scales, which is olive or greenish gray, but from the inside of its mouth, which is inky black. Its venom is highly toxic, and without anti-venom, death in humans usually occurs within a couple of hours and if the bite is to the head, in 10 mins, the person would be dead.
Snakes kill over 40,000 people a year although the actual figure is higher because of unreported incidents, the total may be over 100,000. About half of the total deaths in the world is in India.
Depending on the species, snakes can live from 4 to over 25 years.
There can be 10,000 male Garter Snakes fighting for one female during mating.

Politics / Occupy NASS : Hypocrisy Or Genuine National Assignment? (photo) by maxism2: 8:15am On Apr 27, 2016
When the occupy Nigeria protest took place it was a movement against a Government that decided to remove subsidy and liberalize a sector that was perceived as inefficiently corrupt and the then opposition party now the government in power insisted that subsidy must remain.

Despite all entreaties and explanations that subsidy on petroleum products were not sustainable in the long run ,Tinubu, Fashola and others financed street parties and insisted that subsidy must stay, now the same people want to scrap subsidy and nobody is occupying anywhere!

The last time I slept in a fuel Station was over 20 years ago when we took turns to sleep in my Fathers Peugeot 504 waiting to buy fuel. I remember vividly well how the then military task force usually led by young officers used horse whips on the young and old as they tried to assert authority at fuel stations.

Unfortunately that sad part of history is suddenly becoming a way of life as citizens who hitherto drive in and out of fuel stations now keep vigil at fuel stations under very dehumanising conditions waiting for drops of fuel.

My question is simple where were the promoters of occupy NASS when Nigerians languished on queues? Till date premium motor spirit(Fuel) has remained above 140 in 34 of the 36 states of the federation the only exception being Abuja and parts of Lagos and those occupying NASS wants us to believe they are protecting our interest! How ?

Herdsmen have been on rampage maiming and destroying at will, from Ondo to Delta, from Agatu in Benue state to Enugu in the South East these herdsmen have left a trail of destruction, sorrow ,and pain yet the powers that be see nothing wrong in the actions these renegades.

Where were the promoters of Occupy NASS when the government decided to import grass from Brazil for the comfort of herdsmen and their cattle while simultaneously banning the import of rice for humans?

In the eyes of the promoters of the occupy NASS the lives of thousands of unarmed of Shia men, women and children massacred by overzealous security forces and those consistently been snuffed out by herdsmen is of no value, if it has the protest should have being in opposition to the creation of Sambisa forest in the six geo-political zones of the country in the name of grazing reserves.

For the first time in the history of our great nation the country produced zero megawatts. Despite paying three times the normal bills, long periods of blackouts is fast becoming a permanent way of life yet we have a siting power minister who famously thundered that “a serious government will fix the power problem in six months ” yet because of biscuits the promoters of occupy NASS will rather go for Saraki’s jugular.

This is the kind of hypocrisy, insincerity, double standard and self centeredness that has prevented us from making good progress as a nation, lacing pseudo- activism with the venom of revenge and distraction is a prescription that never works.

The complete lack of commonsense on the part of the promoters of the occupy NASS agenda and their blind followers shows that much still needs to be done in promoting civic literacy as it appears to be only weapon capable of extricating citizens especially young Nigerians from the fangs of of those have consistently used them to mask the real pains, needs and desire of the nations citizens.

Politics / PDP Will Return In 2019 - Abdullahi Maibasira, PDP National Youth Leader by maxism2: 9:45am On Mar 15, 2016
Abdullahi Hussaini Maibasira, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national youth leader in this interview with Michael Abimboye spoke on various current national issues, party affairs the participation of youth in government.

During the 2015 general election, there was an agitation for the youths to have 30% representation in the new government with the harsh tag #30%orNothing. With the appointments made by the APC led FG, do you think the youth are equally represented?

The call for 30% youth inclusion in governance was proposed and driven by PDP youths on behalf of young people since we were in government then. It was purely a PDP Youth agenda. I am not sure it was binding on the ruling party or whether their youth Wing was a part of it. We believed then and still do that though some progress were made (at that time) in appointing young people into some offices, there was the need to concretize and secure the buy in of the nation’s political leadership at that time to fast track leadership transition.

And frankly, we pushed it through the party, we worked on it with then Youth minister Boni Haruna, and way up to the former President who was equally disposed to it. So it became a campaign issue. There are two sides of the coin. One has to do with appointive positions and the other is for elective offices. The elective part purely has to do with how political parties can support and encourage young people to seek elective offices and make it through their primaries. Honestly, some Youth NGO and CSO also supported the idea, they worked with INEC but it was a bit too close to elections by which time primaries have been concluded.

On the appointive side, we are not in government now so this onus does not lie on us at the federal level. It is up to youth movement in the ruling party to push it through more vigorously. I personally consider Youth inclusion an agenda of national and not partisan necessity especially giving the infinite potentials and possibilities of young people in entrepreneurship, governance, economy and innovation. On the elective offices part, if we pass our youth proposals embedded in the constitution amendment at the next convention, we are home but the struggle for implementation will now commence.

Do you think the youth department of the PDP has a chance to right the wrong of the party?

I don’t really understand your definition of “right the wrongs of the party”. First, there was an election – we lost and conceded. Second, we as a party undertook a painstaking nationwide assessment of the reasons why we lost the election. The Committee was chaired by the country’s Deputy President of the Senate. The report was submitted and it has already found its way to the public domain. The observations fully noted and recommendations proposed. Definitely, as a political party, there were some serious fundamental, institutional, mobilisation and organizational short-comings. Now these issues deserve corrective measures.

As for the Youth of the party, in October 2015; we assembled a Restructuring Committee to review our youth framework in its entirety and make recommendations on legal, operational and administrative steps forward. We appreciated ever before now that there was indeed the urgent need for reform. Unfortunately, we were delayed by the fact that we had to concentrate effort for preparations towards the 2015 elections and obviously that those principal reforms require constitutional amendments.

Our proposals are simple: create a nationwide Youth Wing, include Youth representation in Key organs of the party, encourage and support young people to seek elective offices, creation of new offices for young people and the make the party more youth focused and oriented.

Your party is now in the opposition but many Nigerians think it is not doing well in the role and have called for the emergence of a new party which will check the excesses of the APC, Why is your party not performing its opposition role perfectly?

Our role as opposition is emerging, it will get better and with much humility, perfection is providential. I believe that the party is in a State of transition – from a party conversant with the role of governance to one faced with being in opposition. For a party that has been in government since inception, am sure you would agree with me that the unexpected change in role will require both strategic and structural adjustments which cannot just be immediate. But we have made real progress and we will continue to make progress.

The best is yet come out of PDP. We will play opposition of constructive criticism, objective opinions and sound policy alternatives. But, it should be emphasized that the resilience of any democracy is tested on the premise of a strong opposition and liberty of opinions. We cannot afford to have a democracy in Nigeria without a vocal and visible opposition. The essence is to enrich discussion to make our country greater.

PDP is trying to rebrand itself, what do you think should be done if your party must regain power in 2019?

I am not sure politicians discuss strategy during interview sessions. But, I know and will trust that no effort will be spared, and all hands will be on deck for 2019. As I pointed earlier, the party received a 2015 post-election report with a road map towards 2019 which was considered at NEC last year. We should implement the report. We should simply allow the popular person emerge, party must return to the people, internal democracy enhanced, free and fair primaries, we should make our processes more participatory and we should simply follow our constitution. A political organization should be dynamic and responsive.

The ultimate judge in 2019 will be the Nigerian people who at that appointed time will determine by the power of the ballot whether we are better off in terms of livelihood, opportunity, happiness, welfare, economic ranking, purchasing power and access to the basics of life than pre-2015 era.

PDP has consistently said the anti-corruption war of the government is targeted only at members of your party, don’t you think it will be so since your party formed the last government?

I will stand by the various comments of the party and our leaders relating to the enforcement of the rule of law.

9 months into the Buhari government, what’s your take on the administration? Will it deliver its campaign promises?

The administration is given 4 years by the Constitution of Nigeria to implement the agenda upon which it was elected. As you said; it is 9 months now. My take is that the administration came into existence by first being in opposition and subsequently defeating us at the polls. By May 29 2017, I believe it would be time for a comprehensive mid – term review.

I also know that daily – on the streets, in hospitals, schools, the financial institutions, formal and informal markets, at various public places, on online social media platforms, at newspaper stands and at homes, the Nigerian people are making their own assessments. What the 2015 elections further teaches us is that democracy has come to stay.

What are your take on the recent victory of the PDP at some national assembly election rerun and the Supreme Court ruling on some governorship elections?

We are delighted. We are definitely so grateful to the Judiciary especially the Supreme Court. As for the rerun; it simply passes a message to the world that PDP is still very much in the hearts and minds of Nigerians and the flame of power to the people will lighten the torch of Nigerian democracy in due course.

What would you like to see in the coming PDP national convention?

I am optimistic. From the ward level way up, we simply have no option than to work towards conducting transparent and credible congresses. There is a lot of interest in the party and it’s direction. We must honestly manage the process. We must simply get it right. I am sure we would have a successful convention.

What in your opinion is your lasting legacy or mark?

Well, one must leave trademarks or foot prints while in office and we should always plan for succession and transition. But I am hopeful that without bias posterity will mark us well for expanding the space for young people, for mainstreaming many youths into the PDP agenda, for organising many youth programs that were never held in the PDP, for the privilege of leading the youth campaign during the 2015 elections, for increasing the functionality of the office, for identifying and proposing lasting constitutional reforms that will guarantee the place of young people in the party, for bringing to the fore the need to amend the constitution to create the PDP Youth Wing, and for bringing the party closer to the youth movements operating outside the party.

We made it a cardinal objective to ensure that Youth leadership within the party should be truly by young people. So I was extremely pleased that NEC approved as part of our 2016 Electoral Guidelines that eligibility into the office of Youth Leader or Deputy at all levels must be 40 years of age and below.

On a final note, do you have any political ambition?

Every man has an ambition and it may not necessarily be political. But again man is a political animal. As for now, we are preparing for congresses and convention. My immediate ambition however is to see to my current mandate successfully. My general political ambition is to play a part in our country’s democratic process.

Politics / Customs Debunks Report On Arrest Of Bala Mohammed's Son by maxism2: 7:21am On Feb 01, 2016
Information available to 247ureports.com indicates that a campaign of calumny within the leadership hierarchy is some quarters of the nation may have been launched directly targeting the family of Bala Mohammed through his son, Abdullahi Mohammed.

According to the information received, the national custom service through a consortium of online mediums had made publications indicating that the Nigerian Customs service had arrested the son of the former minister over the underpayment of a custom’s duty on a vehicle. The online publications accredited the statement to the spokesperson for the custom’s anti-smuggling outfit in Lagos, Uche Ejesieme. The gist of the publication went on to add that Abdullahi Bala purchased the said vehicle for N850million and owed N123.7million on duty payment.

However in talking to the spokesperson of the Customs service, he was quick to debunk the report of Bala Mohammed’s son’s arrest. He was emphatic in stating that the Customs had not identified and/or indicated that the son of a former minister was arrested. “Whoever says that we arrested Bala Mohammed son should provide us with the evidence that we arrested such a person” said the spokesperson who went on to clarify that the Customs service is not in business of witch-hunting, neither are they a political organization. “We are only concerned with custom matters, at no time did we tell anyone that the son of a former minister was arrested by us”. The spokesperson credited to the publishers of such news as mischief makers.

The said erroneous report – as it was initially published on Saturday January 30, 2016 by an online medium – was widely syndicated to fifteen [15] other online mediums who then copied the report verbatim.

The Customs service is expected to clarify the matter on Monday.

Family / Woman Pronounced Dead In Edo Found Alive In Aba by maxism2: 11:16am On Sep 05, 2015
…Relations shy to take her home as she’s now mad

From Okey Sampson, Aba

For many, Mercy (not real name) from an Edo State community had long been dead and buried by her kinsmen. But miraculously she is still very much alive.

The story of Mercy is one wrapped up in mystery. Before the mid ‘90s, the tall, dark and beautiful lady was living a normal and healthy live in a community in Edo State, where she was said to be involved in a business with which she took care of herself and members of her family.

Mercy, as was now named, was said to have at times travel to Onitsha, Anambra State to purchase some goods which she resold at home. Loved by all, she was reportedly leading a happy and fulfilled life.

But one day, according to a report by a lady relation, who pleaded anonymity and equally refused to give the name of their community for fear of in her words projecting them in bad light, Mercy got missing from her home.

According to the lady, usually comes to Aba to buy goods, there was confusion in their community as Mercy who was not used to be traveling about except on trips to Onitsha for business, which she did not embark on at that time, could not been seen for days.

Confusion then made way for apprehension. Having waited for days and yet their daughter could not be found, leaders and youths of the community set out to look for her.

First, the police in the area were alerted on the search for the lady and they swiftly spread their dragnet to see if they could get a clue of Mercy’s whereabouts, but all yielded no fruits.

Having been satisfied that finding Mercy was beyond the police, the community decided to look for her in their own way.

But the result was the same, there was no trace of their daughter anywhere and they left her case to fate, believing that one day she would come home alive on her own. But that was not to be.

In Mercy’s community tradition forbids a missing person to be presumed dead until after a stipulated time if he or she was not found.

Within this window of time allowed by tradition, there was still high hopes that Mercy would come back home alive.

But as this period elapsed without Mercy being found, the community went into mourning because their daughter had by the dictates of tradition died.

So, burial rites were reportedly performed. Although her body was not found, but as far as the community was concerned, Mercy was dead and buried and her name on the community’s register marked with red ink.

But years after, in 2014 to be precise, something happened. Mercy who had long been ‘buried’ in her community in Edo State was found roaming the streets of Aba as a mad woman.

How Mercy was found

The lady, who told Mercy’s story, was the one who found her. She said she was in Aba late last year on a business trip as usual and went to see some of her customers within the Ogbor Hill area of the commercial city when she saw somebody who resembled Mercy.

She said two things crossed her mind, either she was seeing a ghost because Mercy who had long been ‘buried’ way back in Edo years ago had not been to Aba before, or she saw someone that resembled their ‘dead’ sister.

But out of fear, the lady could not make further enquiries.

When the lady went back after that business trip and narrated to her people what she saw, opinions were divided.

While some people were of the view that she saw somebody who resembled their sister, others believed she might have seen a ghost, yet another group encouraged her to sermon courage and approach the mad woman when next she visited Aba and sees her.

So, on a recent visit to Aba, the lady again was heading towards the Federal Housing Estate along Opobo Road, Ogbor Hill to see her customers.

As fate may have it, on getting to Emelogu junction, she saw Mercy coming in the opposite direction.

Instead of dodging as she did in the first time, when Mercy approached, she called her by the name for which she was known back home.

The mad woman recognised her and stopped. Both ladies greeted themselves and engaged in a lengthy sisterly discussion to the bewilderment of onlookers.

After the discussion, the lady gave Mercy some items she bought for her and reportedly told people around that she would take her case back to their community so that her people could come and take her home.

But checks by Oriental News showed that since then, nobody as promised has come for Mercy who is now domiciled in front of a disused factory building on Opobo Road, adjacent St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, Federal Housing Estate, Ogbor Hill, Aba.

When this reporter went to take her photographs, Mercy charged at him, calling him a mad man and threatened to deal with him if he ever took her picture.

A resident of the area, John Ndudi described Mercy’s case as pathetic.

He said if her people have been looking for her all these while and she was eventually found in Aba, they would have braced all odds to reach her irrespective of her current condition of health.

For the relations of Mercy who had looked for her over the years believing she was dead and performed a mock burial for her, she is not dead and may recover from her present state of mind if proper care is extended to her, many in Aba believed.

Crime / Police Arrest Lagos Prince, Others During Cult Initiation by maxism2: 8:43am On Aug 21, 2015
The Anti-Robbery Squad of the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, Lagos, has arrested a Lagos prince, Wale Jimoh, and seven others.

The police said the suspects were arrested during initiation rites of the Eiye Confraternity in the Jakande Roundabout, Small Kuramo, Lekki.

Jimoh’s father is said to be the traditional ruler of a community in the area.

Other suspected members of the confraternity group include; Frank Mafiana (32), Robert Williams (34), Koko Etim (25), Ibrahim Ogunkoya (21), Stephen Anoh (27), Adekunle Mayegun (25), and Moris Gordian (27).

PUNCH Metro learnt that the men had organised a party at a bar owned by their gang leader, Mafiana, and decided to use the occasion to initiate Ogunkoya.

It was gathered that it was at the last stage of the initiation that security operatives, acting on a tip-off, struck.

A police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the suspects were “caught in the act.”

He said, “When we got there, we met the new member in their midst. He was blindfolded and stark naked. We recovered a gun, cutlass and a bottle of gin which contained ground pepper from the scene.”

The leader of the cult group, Mafiana, said he became a cultist while in a university in Enugu State.

The Delta State indigene said, “A girl had hugged me in public. That night, some guys came to my hostel and beat me up. They warned me never to go near the girl again.

“I became angry and called my friend, who was a cultist. I told him I was ready to be one of them. That was how I joined and rose to be the number one.

“I have gone for several missions and beaten up many rival cult members, but I never killed. When I came to Lagos, I stopped being a member and these guys only came to meet me that day to assist them with the initiation.”

However, another member of the group, Etim, countered Mafiana, saying he was the leader of the gang.

The Akwa Ibom indigene said the gang always met at his bar where they held their meetings.

“We are all members and he is the chief. I joined them recently and never knew there was going to be an initiation that night,” he said.

On the initiation of Ogunkoya, another member of the group, Williams, said they were called to the bar at the instance of Jimoh, the prince.

Williams said, “Wale (Jimoh) called Mafiana that Ogunkoya wanted to be a member. Our leader was initially reluctant, but when he saw Jimoh with a polythene bag containing a cutlass and a gun, he agreed.”

Jimoh on his part confessed that he brought the gun and cutlass, adding that he stole them from a shrine where Ogun worshippers in his community performed rites.

He said, “Although my mum is the present queen in the palace, I am not the real son of the king. The king married my mum and because he liked me, he adopted me.

“Ogunkoya is my friend. He has been noticing how we operate, and he told me that he was interested in being a member.

“I invited him for the party. It was when he was feeling tipsy that we removed his clothes to initiate him.”

He explained that torture during initiation was meant to harden the minds of members.

Ogunkoya, however, denied showing interest in the group, adding that he was threatened with a gun.

“I have never met them in my life until that day. I never knew they were cultists until they attacked and pushed me into a pit and started beating me around 9pm.

“They put a gun to my head and said I must join them or else they would kill me,” he said.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Patricia Amadin, when contacted, said she would get back to our correspondent. But she had yet to do so as of press time.
