hi calmguy wats up? i was inducted this year June as well, i didn’t know the facilitator spent 8 years to write 2 stages, aw come u knew that?

wel dat does not matter, at least he fought till the battle was over- thats the spirit of an achiever.
Now to your question. i av actually thought of it before and wat i concluded was that if the Institute can make it compulsory for any ATS graduate who wants to proceed to the professional Exams should go for one year INDUSTRIAL ATTACHMENT(I.T), by this means many employers will be aware of the ATS and these AATs will be able to prove their professional competence which i am sure employers and even govt will find satisfactory.

The Institute should give all ATS graduates letter of I.T to whom it may concern, and before the students can write the PE they will bring a letter from the organisation they av had their IT stating that while they were employed they were able to prove their professional competence, were deligent, honest, trustworthy and recommend that they should be admitted as professional students of the institute.

2. The Institute Should publish in The dailies stating wat the ATS is all about, wat graduates of the scheme can do, the benefits of the scheme to the nation as a whole, the individual, the company etc.

3. The institute together with the AAt committee should visit COMPANIES, BANKS, AND ORGANISATIONs that often need middle level professionals to tell them more about The ATS and it graduate. The truth is most of this employers do not know about the ATS scheme

4. I will stil come up with more. thats all i can think of now

in my own opinion the ATS should not be given a separate body now- it has not matured to that stage. if despite the fact that the institute has been spoon feeding it all these years it is still at this stage, don’t you think it will die of starvation if left on its own. how many AATs do we av, not up to 14000 and not all of them will continue to pay their subscription once they qualify and not all students continue to write the exams once they fail. so financial wise if the ATS is left on its own it will be to its own peril.

I think the best thing has been done to make it WEST AFRICA WIDE i.e ATSWA now under ABWA but the local institutes still av to do their own parts as i av mentioned above.

ACCOUNTING students in the universities and polytechnics av a body, if professional accounting students can av a body i guess it will go a long way to help. say Professional Accounting Students Association Of Nigeria-ATS(PASAN-ATS)and PASAN-ICAN.then we will av say SAFE chapter, WYSE chapter, PYE chapter, ViSION chapter etc. they will av- u know, an exco. will meet 2 discuss issues concerning them. forward their opinions, advice etc to the AAT committee and to the Institute and do a lot of Awareness campaign etc and other things as set out at the beginning of this thread. it will really go a long way to help. with the help of the institute. it will be made compulsory for each student to by a sticker like: I AM PROUD TO BE AN ACCOUNTING TECHNINICIAN OF I CAN - JOIN IF U CAN. or I BELONG TO THE PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTING STUDENTS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA-ATS(PASAN-ATS)-WOULD U BE A QUACK OR A PROFESSIONAL--hey, i am just thinking wild.

please i need you to put me through on this. i and three other friends of mine av decided to come together to form an investment partnership (sort of)
we are stil students but we want to bcom businees moguls tomorrow and av decided to start earlier, though quite late.

we ar planning on a monthly subscribtion of N2000 each, that's #8000 monthly to invest on stocks in the secondary market and IPO,s when available.

Now my QUESTIONS.
we av a name for the partnership but it is not registered-Do we need registration certificate before we can open a CSCS account?
Can we open in just any name and av more than or at least two signatories at a time?
Though we intend to increase our monthly contribution after a period of time-is #8000 okay to start with?
We need a very good, reliable and trusted stockbrocker that will be willing to accept our peeny, do you know of any?
WE NEED YOU TO ADVICE US ON THE MARKET REGULARLY.

I read on friday 22 august 2008 tribune newspaper an ad-guess what? if u av ur ACA or passed ur PE111 you can apply to OOU sandwich programme, they called it one name like that sha, u spend 2 years and get a Bsc in Accounting.

this is a step forward and im sure better things are yet to come.

i recieve lectures @ VISION TUTORS IKEJA beside Archbishop Vinning Church, will be sitting for PE1 NOV DiEt. i am doing my best and committing the rest to Jah.

it seems we dont av many accounting technicians in the house.

well over eigtheen years since the scheme as been in place not up to 14000 students av successfully completed the exam.
1. due to the fact that it is not that popular
2. Not all schools readily accept it for direct entry like OND
3.Due to the nature of the exam-it is not meant for toddlers, u think say na Beans to write ICAN exams at any level

The reasons above and thosenot mentioned i hope that by coming together we can be able to put and end to it by giving our views and opinions on the challenges we are facing, sending such opinions and views to the council members of the institute, working the AAT committees, probably organising seminars, workshops, anything that will take the ATS to the level it ougth to av been.

Reminding the institute to work on partnering with any good nigerian university to award bsc after completion of all ur professional exams etc. like ACCA does.

I implore all AATs many of whom are now Chartered Accountants working in the industry it is time to remember your source.

tell us wat employers want that should be incoporated into the ATS scheme.
Tell UR employers that AAT are Middle level professionals who are very capable.
All Lectures Who are chartered Accountants must u forget ur Baby the AAT. teel the NUC that AAT or Graduates of the accounting technician scheme are very capable mentally, academically and very disciplined to be granted Direct Entry admission to higher institutions of learning. same applies to our daddies in the pOLYTECHNICS.

Show to them how much we av to learn b4 we can pass.prove our worth 4 us

Chartered Accountants have code of conducts guiding each members and everything they do is regulated by standards(SAS) issued by the National Accounting Standards Board(NASB)

ICAN is A member of the International Federation Of Accountants (IFAC) and also a pioneer member of the Accounting Bodies in West Africa(ABWA)

Most of Our SAS are Adopted From IAS( international Accounting Standards) now IFRS( International Financial Reporting Standards ) any body of professionals that do not possess all these characteristics and more cannot be reffered to as Chartered.

So chartered Economist(if i may say) wat are the standards regulating ur practice.

hi,
i am an accountant with a servicing firm in lagos but we av a subsidiary that is involved in manufacturing of pure water. i am in charge of their accounts and it has been 4 like 2 years now so i can tell u at least sometin.

Purewater is a very good business cos virtually everybody needs water, that means the market is readily available. but just like evry other good bis it has its own challenges and the challenges are quite much and could kill the bis if proper care is not taken.

i'll list some of the challenges and explain them in detail thereafter.
1. Saturated market
2. Use of bad vehicle, bad roads and quick depreciation of vehicles
3.Fraud, pilferage, etc
4. low selling price
5.Seasonal changes
6.Govt agencies
7. incompetent staff
8. Power supply(Diesel)
9. Overstaffing, high cost of labour, etc
10. source of raw(input) material
11. AND FINALLY ONE THING YOU MUST KNOW-[font=Lucida Sans Unicode][/font][/color]THE BUSINESS IS DIFFERENT FROM THE OWNER. accountants call it THE ENTITY CONCEPT.

n[color=Black] now let me expain briefly.
1.Saturated market
In lagos there are thousands of pure water producers, in our lg alone they number into hundreds, but do not be afraid there still exist a market for every body depending on the quality of your products, ur marketing strategy, ability to reach out to more people i.e having more than one vehicle at a time etc.

2[b].Use of bad vehicle, bad roads and quick depreciation of vehicles[/b]
one factor affecting bis inn nigeria is bad road as it causes ur vehicles to wear out quickly so put that in mind and plan 4 it.
Use rugged vehicles that can stand the test of time e.g Nissan Cabstar, Toyota Diana etc PLEASE DONT USE DIESEL ENGINE VEHICLES IT IS A VISA TO HELL, Have reliable, trusted and readily available mechanics and technicians. if possible employ drivers who have mechanic experience.

3.Fraud, pilferage, etc
have a good internal control system, employ reliable personnels, keep accounts-employ AATof ICAN or OND holders, preferably AAT holders, if they steal ur money u can report them to ICAN and appropraite measures will be taken .I am Proud to be One (AAT). keep a close eye on the accounts and accounting system of the company generally. pay ur staffs very well if u want to discourage them 4rm stealing. dont pay more than the company can afford.

4.low selling price
the contribution of purewater is much but the profit is quite low. in Lagos purewater is N50per bag(sp) the total variable cost of producing a bag is around N 25- N 28( cost of raw materials and direct labour). by the time other cost are deducted the total cost of a bag should be around N47. thus the profit is so small. i heard that in portharcourt a bag is N 100. if that be the case then u are in bis 4 real bliv me. but if u are to sell @ N50. then keep in mind that the profit is small.

11. pardom me please as i move to the Last one. i av a lot of work to do.
THE BIS IS DIFFERENT FROM THE OWNER.
Place urself on a salary from the bis. dont touch any other money aside from ur salary, ur salary must not be too much 4 the bis to bear. at the end of the year or ur accounting year end u can take from the reserves after making adequate provision for the survival and continuity of the bis.

but the problem is i think she's double dating. let me giv u the fuull gist.
once she dated another guy like a brother to me while dating me as well. later she told me herself and while she told the guy she was no longer interested i was listening(she connected me throgh conference call). but thereafter i checked her phone she stored this guys number with the name my lov and morning lov(ipheowuro). but my number she stored as precious.

now that has passed iand i know she and the guy no longer see each other. but yesterday when i checked her phone i saw another person sending emotional text messages to her and the persons number she stored as my dearest while she stored mine as treasure. we usually check each others messages, but it has been longed i checked hers and while checking it yesterday she was like no dont check my messages i dont like it. i dint tell her wat i saw neither did my reaction towards her changed, but i am beggining to suspect she is double dating,
