shina peters had something to sayhuh
i must have missed it.
kindly shed more light please.
Sound Sultan has said more on his pinkie finger than Shina Peters will ever say with his entire body.
Shina Peters is no better than Dbanj (maybe better in that, he can at least play one musical instrument).
all this talk of fela, fela. as much as his music was meaningful, is it not taking it too far to ask someone to use him as a model?
ordinary tuface, we are complaining.
oh! i forgot about dbanj, i take that back.
the issue of morality is a universal problem.it is not restricted to Nigeria alone.this is the age of immorality.you can not deny it.
more importantly, there is nothing dbanj and kere wa folks will sing now that has not been sung before or been sang around the globe presently.
thier are lots of sensible lyrics around the place.
even the M.Is, Asa, RooftopMC, Mode nine, Nigga Raw, tuface (almost every main street artiste) has couple of meaningful, educative tracks.
the fact that dross surfaces to the top is not an indictment of the artsites in my opinion.

i expected Dr. Abati to print out Banky and Rooftop MCs (el dee's reply is childish) replies and try and address there arguments.
what does he do??
he has the effontery and sheer audacity to rerun the old article again lasst friday, claiming that it was due to popular demand.
that is sheer intellectual arrogance.
which popular demand? the article is all over the place.
try and refute the argument of the young men or expand on yours.
the same people claim that Obasonjo is arrogant.
it is so easy to criticize from the outside.
and like they say talk is cheap.

wetin concern dbanj?
he has been paid in full.
As far as he is concerned, all na business.
i blame that Ayo Subair guy.
he does not have a clue how to run a pay tv.
the quality of HITV is very appalling to say the least.
take away the premiership and the station will close down in two weeks.
any one that expected better from this program is of all men, most naive.
Politics › Re: Dokubo Rejects Amnesty by mbulela: 4:06pm On Jun 29, 2009
anyone who for a second considers any of this lot as a freedom fighter is the most naive of all men.
these are men who are taking advantage of the failed state we call our country to get the most that they can.
no exception.
Please do not be deceived.
there is no ideology, no belief behind this enterprise called militancy.
it is all 'wash wash'.
shine your eye.
Business › Re: Best Nigerian Bank? by mbulela: 3:49pm On Jun 28, 2009
standard chartered bank is crap in its entirety.
as a former customer of theirs, i will never advice anyone to bank there.
but if you are seeking employment and get a space there, grab it with both hands.there is no better bank to work for if you value work/life balance.
no aggressive marketing, close on time and no weekend banking (the last time i asked).

TV/Movies › Re: Thoughts On The S/A Soap Jacob's Cross by mbulela: 9:32am On Jun 26, 2009
okay drama.
i watched it a few times when i was in naija.
the lead actor (the one in the pic at the top of the post) is Hlomla Dandala.
one of those super playboys in SA within the entertainment industry.
acted in Isidingo, presented some love reality show (just forgotten the name now), behalf of the other. a few of the actors in it have acted in the SA soaps and dramas over the years.
it is good but in my view nothing like Isidingo of 5 years back (not now o). i know Isidingo is a soap but it was the bomb.super acting, suspense filled story line etc.

for me the best drama out of that country in recent times is YIZO YIZO.
if you ever find it, steal it if necessary.will give you a clear and well acted picture of the SA society.
ran for three seasons and was the bomb.

chei! children of nowadays no get respect again. Na Uncle Rueben una dey call by name sohuh

Uncle Rueben no mind them jare. Its part of the thing you are talking about abi? We are following the americans and british by calling our father's mates by name. no respect at all!

By the way sef, Uncle Rueben, where were you when Kwara State Givernor (a man from your own generation) brought in Beyonce and JayZ to Nigeria and named a street after JayZ in Kwara state? or have you not attended several ThisDay shows organised by Nduka Obaigbena (another member of your generation) with all the american 'role models' in attendance, the most recent one with R.Kelly who just escaped jail for sexual offences. Maybe you did not hear that one of the governors (another sad reminder of your generation) flew in 50cents for his wife's bday party?

And you also talked about us having the wrong role models. Please sir, name one role model from your generation. From all the 36 thieves who call themselves governors to the numerous ministers or even you journalists from your own constituency who go behind and collect brown envelopes and plots of land in Abuja from Waziri and co. Are these the people we should model ourselves after?

Like Banky rightly said, we are willing to learn but where are the teachers?

again i say gbam!!
i wonder why no one has seen the errors in Nduka Ogbiagbena's ways but keep finding the time to write un researched crap about the youth.
go see the videos of thisday concerts and see senators and governors shaking their fat bellies to busta rymes and snoop.
are these the role models?

on a different note.
what is holding number portability in the GSM industry?
how do you see the industry panning out when it is introduced.

2ndly, what do you think is the most critical need of the industry at present? (i mean from a practitioner point of view)
Career › Re: Telecommunications Professionals Zone by mbulela: 5:26am On Jun 25, 2009
on a general note, one admirable thing about Huawei is their flexibility.
they are always willing to tinker with the product to suit your need.

AjanleKoko:
@mbulela

I was referring to the core network, not the access layer.
For both Zain and MTN, the core network is 100% Ericsson, while the service layer (VAS) is a mix of products.
All the operators are using various access strategies, e.g etisalat is using NSN, ALU and HW. That's basically a cost management strategy.
Also, the quality thing is becoming rather relative. HW was regarded as a 'cheap' vendor for a very long time. One thing about those guys is that they 'look face' before they supply a product. Imagine, this is the vendor that powers TeliaSonera and Telenor in Europe (Finaland and Norway).
Anybody who knows wireless systems worldwide will tell you these networks are NGN pioneers and standard bearers where technology is concerned.

Look at the Ring Back Tone Service. Are you aware that Huawei powers this service in MTN, Glo, etisalat, Visafone, and Starcomms? They have the most advanced system for RBT in the world. Ericsson doesn't even have its own product.
you are correct on the issue of core vis a vis access.
but on that issue of quality, i still stand to be corrected. Huawei is not rugged enough (i am restricting my assertion to access network).that is a fact that can be ascertained from the quality of access of MTN and Zain in the different regions.
one thing about the Huawei people na say dem sabi do business in the local style wink
i will not expatiate on that and they never take no for an answer.those chineese guys go worry you like bug until you give them a chance.
infact they will pretend they don't understand your english when it does not suit them.

AjanleKoko:
yes o.

NSN (nokia siemens) I don't consider to be a serious vendor in this market for now. Any inroad they may have right now might be due to Siemens, since Nokia never considered the African market a target for its equipment biz. But they will face a stiff challenge from HW, as those guys are gradually gaining acceptance in mainstream wireless (GSM) and they have resources. Those guys literally throw Chinamen at every project.
My fav vendors in this market are Alcatel Lucent and Huawei, as they are really putting resources and technology into Glo and etisalat. Those two operators will have a smoother ride to the NGN than the Ericsson networks, given cost considerations.

Ericsson will however continue to be number one, since the top 2 pan-African networks (MTN and Zain) are Ericsson networks. With this new strategic outsourcing deal with Zain, that's assured.
not exactly. MTN uses Ericsson down south and Huawei up north, while Zain is spilt into three between Huawei, Motorola and Ericsson.
inside sources say it is for strategic reasons. so that Ericsson does not hold them to ransonm and for price reasons.
Huawei will offer you a cheaper price no matter what.
as for the quality, that one is another matter entirely.

Damn! Banky W just earned my respect. His reply was direct and on point without been disrespectful.
Eldee should take a walk in Banky W's shoes. His own reply despite the use of sarcasm sounded too immature and pubescent. I doubt whether Guardian would have published his reply.
Finally,u'all shouldn't go about criticizing the older generation cos I don't think our generation will be any better.
Just take a stroll to the tribalism, secterianism and religion sections of this forum and u'll be shocked by the tribalistic crap spewed by our so called youths.

just my 2cents.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: ESPN Wins Rights To Premier League Games, Setanta Loses Out. by mbulela: 8:48pm On Jun 23, 2009
i wish Sky will just replace Jamie Redknapp with McManaman. Redknapp is awful (the exact words running through my mind are unprintable).his tired cliches are horrible and in his eyes, his cousin can do no wrong.

in my view the best pundit is James Richardson. very broad view, insightful comments and extremely witty.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: ESPN Wins Rights To Premier League Games, Setanta Loses Out. by mbulela: 8:39pm On Jun 23, 2009
Macca (Steve McManaman) is not bad at all.he is not without intelligence - a rarer commodity in football studios than it should be.

the major problem of Setanta is a lack of content outside the EPL games. as much as their are mad football fans, their number is not enough to sustain a channel without other drawing factors (i am looking at you HITV). that in my view was the singular most important factor why Setanta failed.

eldee:
Come on . . . you do know you can't compare ESPN to Setanta
ESPN is a real brand, Setanta was made for the EPL, I watch Presspass on ESPN and it's not that bad

Besides they've go money to employ coaches and retired footballers for analysis
I've seen Ruud Gullit and many other top class coaches there . . . that's a winning recipe, not Ray Parlour and Steve Mcmanaman
Music/Radio › Re: Charly Boy And Danny Wilson Classics!for Those Who Know by mbulela: 8:31pm On Jun 23, 2009
your opinion.
if you ever find his Original Bad Boy album, listen to it and let me hear your view.
i agree that the lyrical contents of that particular 'Mr. Raggamufin' track was crap but in my view more of an exception that the rule.
besides in those days the lyrics around town were not any better.
the lyrical contents ofthat particular song is way better than everything Dbanj has ever sang in his entire career, so can i extend your adjectives to Dbanj?
on another note Daniel Wilson had a voice that 96% (or more) of present artistes do not (and will not have).no vocoders!!!
listen to his 'Omo la Keji' or 'True love' tracks on that OBB album and you will appreciate the fact that he ain't bullshit at all.
