Sorry about that, I had the similar ransonware attack a year black, I was able to get 60% of my file back, it attack my 1tb external drive was able to get most of my files back, I had to run two programs, 1. To isolate the attack, 2. To take back my permission of my files. Although it depends on the type of brand of attack, would check and send update. There is is still some hope.

I currently use a windows 10 OS on my system but I want to use Linux(understand and be knowledgeable about it) but still want to keep my current OS. I have researched for the two but I still want more input from you guys especially from the experienced ones among you. Which of the option should I opt for and why also what are the drawbacks?

Sir, the idea of a dual boot is a bad idea, I tried it some years past and there became a problem with the Linux boot image and it hang the system, I had no choice but to re-image the whole system, lost all my files, in the case of a VM, you would only lose the VM image, which you can always be restored from a backup from the vm directory.
