OreMI22: One thing Rochas will be remembered for is the new Owerri area which he implemented to the letter according to the master plan and tarring of the World bank housing area.
Personally, i don't think Imo state did badly under Rochas. He was definitely better than Ohakim, Udenwa or other visionless folks the state had produced since 1999. Although i am not aware if Rochas accumulated debts for the state. But, nobody can deny that Rochas left Imo state better than he met it. Biko, New Owerri is the brainchild of late Sam Mbakwe not Rochas. That was way back when the Concorde hotel was built and World bank area too. Udenwa built the new secretariat complex and house of Assembly. Ohakim is responsible for the aesthetics ala greenery. Rochas has done a lot in opening up roads but he has cut down more trees than he has planted. Wetheral, Douglas, Okigwe roads etc as well as the larger old Owerri town have been rendered a concrete jungle by Rochas who hates planting of trees. Though there is no denying the fact that he has done more than any other governor since Mbakwe. |

THE PLIGHT OF FMC OWERRI WORKERS -some have stayed 8 yrs without promotion(stagnation) -they are the lowest paid FG workers in Nigeria(the mgt cut their salary by 50percent) -the few that went to promotion since 3 yrs now have not been paid their arears, others -the costliest medical centre in Nigeria. -anti-people policies by mgt. -demotion,stagnation,wrong placement, poor salary(different from other centres) -sacking without due process -unhidden voodoo practices -etc |

Na wa for Imo state and their elder statesmen, that's if there's any. I have a cousin that left that hospital a couple of months ago. She said the so called Angela Uwakwem is diabolical and the occultic politicians who put her there don't want her to leave cos of what she does for them.
I used to doubt it but the day I paid her a visit and saw some sheep wandering in the hospital I remembered a story I heard some years back on how she has zombiefied the staff. There was one ward in that hospital that had a bed on which if a person lies there, he /she must die. How comes a whole CMD plants flowers in the hospital? She has a plan if you ask me..
This sounds funny but they are mysteriously true. Their staff die anyhow coupled with the fact that it is the most expensive yet number one Federal Medical Centre in Nigeria. The day I learnt that patients' card sells for N1000 I almost wept.
They say whenever a child is crying and pointing a finger, if the mother is not there, the father is there. No smoke without fire, so the Federal Government should do something to save the state. |

I had thought it was caused by my phone not being updated, but I have updated my phone and it still persists.
Whoever knows how I should go about it should please advise me as it will be greatly appreciated. The very important apps I use daily have overstayed their last updates because of this problem. Thanking you for your solutions already, as I look forward to them. |

PRISTINEMUSCLES: i quite agree with u. That is an employee that has great vision. At least he/she will eventually become an entrepreneur. What about those that work all their lives under a "boss"? My brother no matter how much they might be earning, they can never and i repeat it yet again, they can never be rich. Sure bro. We are on the same page. Being rich is not just all about how much one has in the bank that's what people don't understand...As a matter of fact, a truly rich man or should I say those who have their eye on being wealthy usually count their wealth in terms of assets such as land, stocks, business chains, etc. As a matter of unwritten rule, a truly rich person hardly keeps all their wealth in physical cash. Every cash is always busy reeling out another cash. These sounds all good but needs serious planning and discipline. |

PRISTINEMUSCLES: No matter how much one is paid, you can never become rich on a paid employment. You can become rich if you use your savings to become an entrepreneur. It's instructive to see the job as an avenue to pool up capital towards being your own boss.....Provided you already have the investment plan ready, once you have gotten enough money, voila. We always harp on one not becoming rich from paid employment, yet someone needs capital to lead the life of an entrepreneur. Just make sure you already have an idea of what you intend veering into.........The money you earn will now be a soothing balm on the aching idea. Gradually you disengage from the job. Everybody's success story does not have to always follow one path. |

shachris03: How much do Nigerian companies really pay? Although not everyone considers pay package as the first thing for picking up a particular job, but there is no denying that pay packages determine a whole lot of things when it comes to picking up jobs.
It does seem like many corporate organisations are waking up to the reality that if they must engage and keep the best hands, paying encouraging salaries, rather than stipends is the right thing.
As far as Nigeria is concerned, which companies are doing well at rewarding labour? We are going to look at a few of them and the industries they represent. It is also important to note that within same industry, there are disparities in salary scale depending on company policies, department and of course the level of the staff in the company – entry, middle or management.
1. Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd (Oil & Gas) is a Joint Venture between Shell and The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)andranks topmost on the list of companies that pays the highest salaries in Nigeria. The Company pays its entry level staff between N1million to as high as N2.5million (even as high as N6million) to junior staff depending on department and skills required.
2. Chevron (Oil & Gas) is also one of the top in the list of highest paying companies. The company operates in the Oil & Gas industry and is reputable for making its workers smile with juicy salary packages and other perks. Maybe this is due to its American background. Chevron pays a salary range of between around N2 – N2.5million in salary for her entry level staff per annum.
3. Mobil Oil & Gas Multinational (Also known as Exxonmobil) (Oil & Gas). Also with an American root Mobil has a strong base in the country and is the world’s largest publicly traded international oil and Gas Company, the world’s largest refiner and marketer of petroleum products and also a technology company, applying science and innovation to find better, safer and cleaner ways to deliver the energy the world needs. Exxonmobil pays around N3.6million – N9.6million in annual salary at entry level and that depends on your duty and which of the departments of the company you work with.
4. NNPC Oil & Gas (Oil & Gas) This is Nigeria owned oil and gas company and it’s just natural to be interested in what it pays its employees. With its Corporate Headquarters located at NNPC Towers, Central Business District, Herbert Macaulay Way, P.M.B. 190, Garki, Abuja, this custodian of Nigeria’s national wealth pays about N1.56million for entry level staff per annum.
5. MTN (Telecoms) There is no arguing the fact that MTN is the most widely known Telecoms Company in Nigeria. The company’s branded yellow colour stands out conspicuously anywhere. The company has gained so much ground and share of the industry that the rest are only playing catch up. That is why it is the number 5th best company in Nigeria. MTN pays her entry level staff up to N2.5million per annum.
Other companies that are within the top 10 bracket of highest paying companies in Nigeria are:
6. Nestle Nigeria Plc (FCMG) is probably the most recognised name in Nigeria as far as house-hold items are concerned. The company which pays about N1million to N2.5million in annual salaries. This is apart from the several house-hold items as perks.
7. Nigeria Civil Service (Government) a lot of people believe offers some level of job security. Sack is not common as it is in the private sector. Although there are no standards across all ministries under the government, hence some pay more than the others. At entry level for example in the Nigerian Customs the annual salary is between N960,000 – N1.2million and some of course pay less.
8. Total Oil (Oil & Gas), a major player in the O&G industry in Nigeria. This company pays its entry level staff anything from N5million and above in annual salary. Sometimes a staff in a place like Port-Harcourt may earn more than one in Lagos, though they are in the same level.
9. Dangote Group (FCMG) is another very well-known name in Nigeria and across Africa. The Group has interests in different economic sectors from building materials to daily house-hold needs. And its staff enjoys different salary packages across the different companies under the conglomerate, bearing in mind the standard national minimum wage.
10. Nigeria Breweries (FCMG) is another well-known company in Nigeria that has cut a nitch for itself and is very well accepted among its customers. This company pays from N800,000 and above in annual salary.
Which of these companies is your choice? Why would you want to work for the company? What are the things you primarily consider in order to choose a company to work for?
http://.com/discussion/490/top-salaries-in-nigeria-best-paying-companies/p1 You are not far from the truth. But the real icing on the cake which makes some of these jobs attractive is the allowances and other fringe benefits. Imagine landing a job that pays minimum of about 700,000 monthly and you have up to 2.5mil and above thrown at you gbosaa, at once......all in the name of startup allowance. Some jobs are more equal than others sha. Different levels things. Hehehehe |

Culture › Re: Photos: Are Tribal Marks Attractive Or Repulsive? by McStoic(m): 5:10pm On May 02, 2015 |
akinegba1: As incredible as it may seem, many people find tribal marks repulsive.
The first time Akinwunmi travelled to the United kingdom several years ago, he recalled how a little white girl approached him where he was seated at the airport and studied his face. Akinwunmi had four long horizontal lines deeply etched on his two cheeks. The girl was aged about six. Akinwunmi was initially embarrassed at the way the girl stared at him. Her parents were seated a few yards away and not knowing how to send her away, he decided to engage her in a conversation.
Then, the girl came clean to ask about the marks on his face and he told her he fought and killed a lion. Impressed, she ran back to her parents shouting on top of her voice that she wanted her doll and a biro. She was shouting that she had just met a brave man who had killed a lion.
The little girl drew the attention of many who shifted their gaze to Akinwunmi’s direction and wondered at him. Some of the men even nodded in admiration at his bravery and the little white girl returned, holding her doll and a biro. She lovingly caressed Akinwunmi’s face and the marks on his face before giving him her doll for his autograph.
Now visibly embarrassed, Akinwunmi held her hand and told her he didn’t fight or kill a lion but that the marks on his face were tribal marks he got as a child. On hearing that, the little girl shifted away and screamed in horror, shouting that he was a savage. Her scream attracted airport officials who came to her rescue and found her pointing at Akinwunmi’s tribal marks as the face of a savage. That was over thirty years ago.
Now, Akinwunmi is 57 years and happily married. He has five kids. None of whom has tribal marks. “ I cannot subject my children to the embarrassment I suffered over the marks I have on my face. Even in my school days in Nigeria, they called me all sorts of names because of the severe tribal marks my grand parents put on my face. As a young man, I remained a virgin for a long time because the kind of ladies I wanted to date rejected me due to the marks on my face. The greatest thing that happened to me was getting educated and qualifying to be a doctor otherwise it would have been disastrous for me.
It was difficult for me to get a woman to marry, I mean the kind of woman I wanted. The ladies hated the ugly marks on my face. Even my wife till today does not like my tribal marks even though she eventually accepted to marry me. Her attraction then was travelling to live in UK with me but I guess along the line, she began to love me despite my tribal marks”. This is just one of the stories shared by people with tribal marks on their faces many of whom would not give such marks to their children.
Nowadays, tribal marks have become the dying lore of ancient days. Some of the young people who have it feel resentment towards their parents for giving them such scars in the first place.
During his tenure as Ekiti governor, Fayose banned the inscription of tribal marks in Ekiti. Women are worse off for it. A woman that has four lines each on her cheek may have it tough in getting a husband in the present time no matter how pretty she is. There have been reports of many who resorted to plastic surgery to reduce the effect of the scars or completely remove them. Of beauty and heritage.
Across the major and minor tribes in Nigeria, tribal marks have become a way of identification. Such marks reveal instantly, the tribe of anybody who has such a mark. In Yoruba land, tribal marks are an age-long practice of identification of peoples’ origin. The marks reveal whether one is of Egba, Nupe, Ilaje and other Yoruba origin. Different tribes use these marks and designs as a form of identification, beautification and protection.
These tribal marks are created using sharp instruments such as razor blades, knives or glass and in some cases, flesh is cut from the skin to create a gash, which later heals and leaves a permanent pattern on the body. In an encounter, Alhaji Adegboye, an octogenarian who had what he described as Egba tribal marks told this writer that in the old days when there were inter-tribal wars, tribal marks were used as a source of identification.
“People who were migrating to other places had these marks given to them as a mark of identification so that whosoever came in contact with them would know instantly where they were coming from. There are tribal marks that tell you instantly that someone is an Egba man, an Ilaje person or an Ijesha man.
There are also big families that have their family marks and wherever they see each other, they would recognise themselves from the marks on their faces or hidden elsewhere in their bodies. An individual’s tribe or family typically dictates the pattern in which tribal marks are inscribed on their faces, stomach or legs. Specific families are charged with the responsibility of creating these marks. These household names are also used to sing their praises. The skill of making these marks is passed from one generation to another.”
Alhaji Adegboye, had tribal marks not only on his face but also on parts of his body. “ In my days, they are considered beautiful. Every first son in our family must have a tribal mark. I am a first son and I was given these beautiful marks at birth. My younger ones did not have them. Our first daughter, that is my mother’s first daughter has words tattooed on her chest, arms, and legs.
These words are praise words, which are complimentary phrases about the person they are inscribed on. As she grew up, she also added more tattoos on her neck and arms. My sister has on her arm , a tattoo depicting a man’s name and a heart sign on her hand. Perhaps, she must have been in love when she gave herself that mark. Other parts of her body had drawings that I couldn’t decipher. “ My grandmother also had a lot of marks. Apart from the tribal marks on her face, she had several marks all over her body that as a boy, I used to be struck by how she withstood the pains.
“ Ironically, things have changed. None of my children or grandchildren has any tribal mark. I lived in London and had my children over there. I would have loved my first son to have a tribal mark but the British doctors would not hear of it. And because my children were all British citizens, we couldn’t give them the marks at that time. When we returned home to Nigeria, my wife passed on and I married another one. But she is not Yoruba and kicked against it. She quickly reminded me that none of my children from my first marriage had a tribal mark and for peace to reign, I obliged her. She has three children for me and they didn’t have tribal marks”
Looking back, Alhaji Adegboye said his tribal marks did not pose a big challenge to him. “ The women were not crazy about me and I was not a ladies’ man. I was the serious type but when I made up my mind to settle down, I began to approach women. There was a particular lady I wanted to marry but she was a Christian.
She told me pointblank that she would not marry a Muslim especially one with tribal marks. I wooed her but it did not work and because I liked her character, I told my cousin who is a Christian about her and she married him. My cousin didn’t have any tribal marks anyway. “ That tradition is fading out now. In fact, it has faded out although I still see a few people who wear minor tribal marks. The ones I see these days are not as deep like the one in the past. The young people have also made fancy of tattoos. The entertainers and actors are using it to suit their trades. These days, young people have all manner of designs on their bodies and they call them tattoos but they have rejected tribal marks.”
Although these marks have a long history of tradition and culture, some Nigerians believe the practice of scarification as it is called should be stopped, because they are “barbaric” or unfashionable and antiquated.

Just before election was shifted, Jonathan "unilaterally" reduced the price of Petrol by #10, to #87/Liter.
The problem then was that the "clueless One" did not think of where he would get the deficit #10, to pay the marketer since it is not that NNPC is also reducing how much it sell it to them, from source. He just announced it to gain VOTES!
Again, Jonathan has been paying SUBSIDY to his "Cabal of SCAMMERS" from day-one, even when he is aware, through the "FarCrook Lawa-Gate Scandal", that the SUBSIDY payment was a scam.
Now, he is booted out of office, he is differing and postponing payment ...just so that the incoming administration can inherit the problem he has caused.

First, that person abroad may be the "head" of the family as in the eldest, what is wrong in "differing" to elders in the family, whether they are home or abroad? Respect for elders, as you know, is an African culture.
Concerning the Landlord, do you not know there is a "direct correlation" between the number of people in a house, and the resources that the Landlord is supposed to provide for his Tenant?
You think everywhere must be overcrowded and you people will start shitting about the compound?
In civilized societies, you and all your siblings just dont hop on the next luxurious bus to Lagos ....simply because your brother has informed you he rented a one room apartment!
As for the "abroad people" forming superiority complex, it is only "imagined' in your own brain because people liek you already have this "inferiority complex and beefing" ingrained inside you.

Thanks to all who contributed. Some submissions here are really funny. On the side of our compatriots abroad, I understand that one gets exposed to diverse cultures abroad. Good thing it is, but never forget you can never ever be more catholic than the Pope! Being exposed to different cultures can make or mar one, depending on which side of the psychological divide they swing. So it's not just all about being exposed but being exposed within the right tenets of socialization. Surmising from a psychological standpoint, I posit that PEOPLE WHO MAKE OTHERS FEEL DOWN HVE A DEFICIENCY THEY SEEK TO APPEASE.
To my fellow residents in Naija, forget all the façade some sorry folks throw in your face. Live your life. Appreciate those humble folks who have travelled around. Of a truth it makes the soul better equipped but ignore those who seek to wear you down through no fault of yours. Lotsa them envy your freedom. That we are not permanently based abroad doesn't make us lesser breeds, we just love our freedom more...... No place like home. |

I am not saying you shouldn't flex e-muscles, while at it force yourself to figure out the possibility of everyone on Nairaland having a right to contribute on the posts they created.. |

Deltagiant: At least your ID is gradually coming out. Why are u ashamed of your ethnic group? We have lived for thousands of years with the Igbo peacefully and nothing is wrong going back to the ways GOD created us to live together. Who told you Aniomas are denying their Igboness? Even the Ikwerres are coming back home...Isaac Mahonwu and Igo Okparamma are executivess of Ohaneze Ndigbo today. Your line of argument is no longer convincing...it's very tiring As a matter of fact, I don't have qualms with anybody. Am just telling what I have observed. I know there are reasonable South Southerners but am just reechoing what I have observed for a very long time. |

Deltagiant: Have you lost your mind? Why shouldn't they co-habit when they did so for thousands of years before the contraption called Nigeria of just 100 years ago? And you lot have to wake up now cos the Igbos supported your son. See, if your people can forget that we lived that long and turned their back on the Igbos when they needed them most, then I see this your crusade as dead on arrival. It's a marriage of convenience and cannot stand the test of time which tests all true love. Some of you here are funny. You seem not to understand that even the Ikwerres and the Aniomas for instance, hate to be tagged Igbo talkless of associating with them. My family lost some properties in Port Harcourt during the civil war. It was you folks who against all reason pitted yourselves against us and now you pick up your arms to side with us.....Please let's leave this country the way she is ooo. Heeeeem. |

NDPVF: [s][/s]Not after what we saw during the just concluded election.stop talking trash. Hehehehe.....you call it trash? Guess you read where I read that you people are waking up now that things have turned? There are too many splinter tribes from the SS states to make this work. Besides, your new found love for the Igbos is comical.....We know our own....Abeggiiiiii let's continue managing Nigeria . One day e go better. |

Not possible in this time. Even if it were, I don't think the SS can co habit with the Igbos. It's glaring that many SS guys won't like to associate with Igbo. Asari and other South Southerners are identifying with Igbos now cos of how things have turned. That would be one hell of strange marriage with odd bedfellows......Firstly am from Igboland but secondarily sees myself as a Kaduna indigene by association. Don't wanna apply for visa to visit my beloved KD..Pls let's pray for one Nigeria and continue the march forward. God who put us together in this country will see us through.....Thank you. |

voltron: What does it matter.. we continue to remain a potential. A mythical giant of Africa with the worlds fastest growing GDP and over a population of 129 million living under a dollar a day. Clap for yaself And living abroad changes the fact that you are also part of the system, only that you chose to live abroad?...........Your type methinks, are the ones who are quick to dissociate themselves from their origin. Anyways, I trust the real whites to remind you once in a while where your true origin lies. When it comes call on me I will give you an advising mouth (listening ear is for the non escapists). |
