IamBlanco: leave that aremu Mugu, he doesn't even know that the area called Palestine before 1948 was from the shores of the Mediterranean (Gaza) to the borders of Iraq. over 60% of the land was apportioned to Transjordan who were also Palestinians then. every one had a Palestinian passport whether Arab or Jew. reading how the place was supposed to be shared would even make you get angry with the Arabs. they had the lion share of the land but greed and hate for the jews would not allow them take it. but the british were the major players in the whole wahala. same thing they did in Nigeria. they initially promised the jews land even into jordan. at the end, they had many agreements that were not honored. |

[s] engreo: Residents of Owerri, the Imo capital, on Thursday, defied the sit-at-home order from the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) and went about their normal businesses.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that commercial activities went on uninterrupted in Owerri metropolis and its environs.
Banks were open to customers, while commercial activities went on normally in all the markets in the city, including the Relief and Timber markets.
Academic activities were also going on normally in some schools visited in the city.
Mr Michael Ugochukwu, a school administrator, who spoke on why the IPOB’s order was not complied with, said:
“We did not tell the students anything about it.
“We allowed parents to use their discretion. Some came while others stayed back.”
Another school owner, Mrs Chinwendu Osuji, said that the sit-at-home order was not captured in the list of holidays for the current academic session.
According to Osuji, “the school did not think it was wise to add an unofficial holiday to the week, having already observed May 27 and 29 as public holidays, respectively.”
She said: “We already observed holiday for two days this week and we didn’t see the need to add an unofficial third.
“We did not announce it, even though some parents held their children back at home, probably for fear of the unknown.”
Also, Mr Anthony Obinka, a commercial vehicle operator, said, “Whether or not there is a holiday, people have to feed. So I came out to look for my daily bread.”

[s] Osagyefo98: Despite several threats by the Independent People of Biafra, IPOB to shut down South-East and South-South today following its sit-at-home order, there was zero compliance in Ebonyi state capital as economic activities, vehicular movement and individuals were hitche-free. When Leadership visited some of the commercial centers and markerts in Abakaliki and it’s environs, it was also observed that business activities went on smoothly without any intimidation or harrasment from the Pro-Biafra group. At the mechanic village, the building material market, kpirikpiri market, Abakaliki Timber market and that of Ekeaba market, all the shops were seen open and carrying on with their commercial activities except a few that did not open because of one problem or another.
At the Ebonyi State University and that of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo academic activities went on smoothly while Banking and transportation operations along Afikpo and Ogoja road were all in it’s full scale operations in the state. Meanwhile, over 2000 members of the Akubaraoha Youth Assembly led by the Former Special Adviser on Youth Mobilization to Governor David Umahi, Comrade Mark Onu as early as 8am converged at the Ebonyi Hotel premises from where they marched round the Abakaliki capital city to ensure total clampdown on the Biafra agitators. According to the Youth Leader, the move was to ensure that no IPOB member uses the period to intimidate or harass residents of the state from going about their normal business adding that they also used the oppotunity advised traders not to close their shops as the sit-at-home order is not in the interest of Igbos.
Though the movement created traffic logjams along the ever-busy Afikpo road, Ogoja road and that of Nkaliki road, the directive of the outlawed secessionists was not noticed in the state. Already, as earlier as 6a.m, men of the state police command were seen at strategic places to povide total security for the citizenry. Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odaa noted that men of the command carried out operation show of force within the state capital and it’s environs. She also added that the order was a total failure in the state, as no member of the Biafra was seen anywhere during their show of force. The police spokesman however urged members of the public to report any member of the outlawed group identified anywhere carrying the activities of Biafra in the state so that the culprit will be arrested and prosecuted.

Napoleondegreat: The tragedy of the Igbo man in today's Nigeria is that while the political leaders of other tribes in this country continually work for the interest of their people, the political leaders of Igbo extraction continually work against the interest of their people. The cumulative effect of this is that among the Igbos of today, being a Nigerian politician automatically translates to being a certified betrayer of peoples interest. I got up to go for work today and discovered something very strange. The usually very busy road in a south Eastern state was palpably starved of vehicular movement to the extent that not even one vehicle was in site in a usually very busy city. It was bad that even the tricycle was as scanty as trees in a desert. The usual okada riders that normally scouth for passenger every where were equally very absent on the road. I had wondered what was the case until I saw a man expressing his bewilderment on the strange nature of the road today, then some one reminded him of a declared " sit at home" holding today. This prompted this short write up.
I can recall that several politicians including Dave Umahi, the chairman southeast governors forum had some days back adviced Ndi Igbo not to observe the sit at home. Some political groups also faulted the "sit at home" order directing the masses to go about their businesses. But my observation is that nobody heeds the advices of these politicians anymore in the East. It has dawn on everybody who cares to know that there seem to be a subtle and clandestine order to Igbo politicians to always work against the interest and wishes of the Igbo and other easterners. Recall that during the build up to 2019 election party primaries, a certain Kenneth Okonkwo of Nollywood fame in order to curry the interest of the ruling class decided to attack anything Igbo. Many other people did same thing in different forms. Some succeeded while some did not. It is as if the only way to attain political relevance is to attack Igbo interest. It equally seems Nigeria handsomely rewards whoever does. How else can one explain the fact that no Igbo politician can effectively articulate the wishes of the average Igbo man into Nigeria polity like the Yorubas do. Who says that Igbo will not love Nigeria if her interest is fully covered in Nigeria? Two days ago I read a statement credited to the honorable minister of transport Mr Chibuike Amaechi to the effect that Igbos, (himself inclusive), can only be voted as Nigeria President if they play national politics. And to him national politics means that "the Igbo interest must cover the ikwere man's interest, it must cover those of the Yoruba, housa and others...." But what Chibuike Amaechi failed to note is that Nigeria is yet to cover the interest of an Igbo man. Nigeria seems not ready to accept Igbos back after that civil war some decades ago.
The compliance to this year's sit at home like the ones before it has further reinstated the commitment of the Igbos and others to always stand for whatever there interest is no matter the situation. And to me I have always wished that Nigeria should be a place where everybody's interest is protected no matter where you come from. Has anyone ever thought of making the 30th of may, Nigeria Heroes day celebration to enable every body remember their loved ones that were killed during the war on both sides. Don't even remind me of Arm forces remembrance day that is exclusively for army officers. Our civilian cum military personnels that died in that war should be honoured with a remembrance day. Doing this will effectively inculcate the interest of the Igbos and other Nigerians in this circumstance and I think that should be the way to go rather than clamping down and killing those who decides to "sit at home" to honor their loved ones. I thought it was those funny Igbo people again and I was tempted to strike the whole message out. Until I read through. Nice one . |

pazienza: This is nonsense. There is nothing natural about Central Igbo. Central Igbo is an artificial construct. No Igbo dialect should be judged by its closeness to an artificial construct of a language created by using mostly Abia/Imo and Anambra words, of course, central Igbo was always going to be closer to the dialects of areas of Igboland it was mostly created from.
Ebonyi Igbo is very mutually intelligible to their next Igbo neighbors. For example, Ishielu people of Ebonyi understand Ezza dialect very well, Ezza understand Izzi and Ikwo. Nkanu of Enugu understand their Ishielu neighbors, and so on. Igbo dialects are intrinsically connected to each other across geographical spectrum. The nearer two Igbo dialects are to each other, the closer the mutual intelligibility. It's as simple as that.
For someone who dedicates time to bash Igbo clans outside Anambra and have no time to study them to understand the intricacies involved. You've not earned the right to made general statements on Igbo groups. why are you waisting your time with explanations ? Can you not see that he is hell bent on causing disaffection here among Igbos? Desist from replying him. He is not Igbo. |

[s] nobaga: NDI-IGBO HAVE MORE TO GAIN AS NIGERIANS
By THEWILL_ - June 16, 2015 https://thewillnigeria.com/news/opinion-ndi-igbo-have-more-to-gain-as-nigerians/
There are those of us that have never had Federal or State scholarships but are still grateful for the discipline instilled in us in primary and secondary schools. So when people say those that want Nigeria to exist as a Country are members of the looters club, they are dead wrong. We just cannot imagine our Country without Igbo or Hausa. Where do the so called minorities that have contributed more, to our existence in social and all aspect than the mega ethnics go?
The call for Igbo separation after each disappointment is usually misplaced but understandable. However the loss of breaking up Nigeria is monumental to the point of shaping the rest of the world. The amount of refugees alone will destabilize many countries, not only in Africa but in Europe and America. Worldwide repercussion is secondary, local disaster is immediate.
Religious riot in the North is a topic in itself; otherwise most Hausa are usually low-key outside the North. In the Federal Government they are willing to go alone since the days of Tafawa Balewa. It is the Southern parties that seek unions with the Northern parties. This time around, the Yoruba of the South-west have decided to form alliance with the North for the first time in the history of Nigeria. It is usually the South-east and South-south parties in union with North.
It is even doubtful how long the new union of the North and South-west is going to last. But cat calls, prediction of dooms and wishful thinking have crept up each day to create problems. Each and every move has been criticized and the union is “no longer at ease”. Even if this alliance fails, it is not going to break up Nigeria. The Hausa and Yoruba are not as keen as the Igbo to call for the breakup of the Country. Though everyone is fed up and may accept a loose union.
What does a loose union mean? It is either united group of ethnic nations or the confederation Ojukwu asked for. This is what led to the creation of more and more states to the point where everyone has their own governor, super secretaries and government workers that are now owed many months in salaries. Even worse is the discharge of workers from state positions because they are not from within the individual states.
If this is the chaos creation of states is creating, we cannot imagine the disaster creation of ethnic nations would create. In fairness, the Ndi-Igbo are not the only ones agitating for their own Country; the fever has caught the rest of the Country. It has caught fire amongst the Ijaw of South-south. They want their own Country to manage and spend the income mostly located in their backyard. Even worse, their leaders have been kicked out of power as President.
If there is anything to learn; it is that Ijaw leaders will spend oil income the same way they pocket it when they ruled Nigeria. The only habit Nigerians have in common more than anything else is the conspicuous spending and looting of the treasury. It is the way you can distinguish a Nigerian from a distance.
Unfortunately, some Igbo want to use the defeat of Ijaw leadership from federal power to recreate the Eastern bloc in the name of Biafra. It will never work. South-south is not made up of Ijaw alone. Both the Igbo and the Ijaw have allied with the North in the past to rule Nigeria and the rest of the Nigeria have never used that as a reason to break up the Country. The fact is, some minorities in the South-south have used their alliance with the North as a poison pill.
Indeed, it is only recent that ijaw has become a big minority. The fact is they are still not the main ethnic group in the South-south, the Edo are. Sometimes, present difficulties and pressing problems make us forget the past. Many have temporarily forgotten that amicable coexistence between Urhobo, Ijaw and Itshekiri was broken before Ijaw gained power. Families that have lived together for ages began killing one another: My People Are Killing My People!
Ndi-Igbo must remember that when they had less friends after the War and their properties were “abandoned”, the only place they got all their properties back, up to the present day is from Yoruba land. When they were ostracized from Federal Government after the War, their friends crying for inclusion were Yoruba. The first Government to bring them out from the cold and included them in sensitive and important federal position was Obasanjo Government.
The animosity between Yoruba and Igbo is very uncomfortable for many of us because we have never seen it at this dangerous level. Yes, we’ve always had conservatives on both sides warning us about the dangers of the other. What we see now that is so discomforting is the amount of insults thrown to one another by young people that are supposed to be more open minded than their parents. The parents are now more liberal than their children.
Some Igbo have five years plan to leave Lagos and Yoruba are fed up. The reason the Igbo have more to lose is because they have always been welcomed and well tolerated in Yoruba land. Majority of them have appreciated this accommodation and have contributed in return for the friendship by integrating well into the agbule (compounds) and families of Yoruba. The trend we see now is hostilities between Yoruba and Igbo.
It is not good for both and it may spell disaster for the Country as a whole. The union between political parties is for temporary convenience in order to rule or gain power. It never lasts as differences always show up. Shehu Shagari on why NPN and NPP alliance had to crumble: NPP kept on asking for more and more ministers and power. No position is permanent. This is not the first time that we have had political alliance in Nigeria and it will not be the last time.
Ndi-Igbo and Ndi-Yoruba must re-evaluate their relationship because the new generation is being poisoned by bad vibes between the two. It is not good for Hausa and most Nigerians.

[s] Osagyefo98: THE GREAT ZIK WAS STUPID. MY BROTHER IS NOW THE VICE CHANCELLOR OF UNN! By Ikem Okuhu.
His Excellency, the Rt Hon. Dr Benjamin Nnamdi Azikiwe, one of the most illustrious sons of Nigeria, was indeed a very stupid man. With all the wisdom he deployed to steer our country Nigeria from colonial rule to independence in 1960, Zik did many foolish things and I think my people have made up their minds to tell him so, even as he rests in his grave.
Don’t get me wrong!
If you wish, do!
I really do not care. But I don’t know how else to interpret the caustic, obtuse rhetoric emanating from a lot of my otherwise educated, enlightened and well-travelled brothers and sisters since it was announced that, contrary to wide expectations and wild hopes, a professor of Nsukka extraction was not announced as Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria Nsukka. And there is no other way to sum these interpretation of the outcome of the VC-ship contest than to conclude our people have all along thought Zik was stupid to have abandoned his native Onitsha to site this Great University in Nsukka.
I am an Nsukka man. I left the area for the first time in my early 20s after graduating from the University of Nigeria Nsukka. So from every angle you might look at it, I am strongly connected to this Nigeria’s foremost institution of higher learning. I want the best for my people. I want the best for the University of Nigeria and it was for this reason that I joined forces with former students of the Department of Mass Communication of this University in a bid to build a befitting, world-class structure for the department that formed all of us. But I cannot do this at the expense of the larger need to foster oneness and remaining sensitive to the larger environment in which we all live and operate.
Expectations was high in the run-up to the VC election process and it all seemed that the magic wand that’d reverse the infrastructure decay and regression in the quality of graduates turnd out from the school can only happen with an Nsukka VC on the saddle. You don’t visit the Social Media without being inundated with conversations around this great hope. It was so bad that many lifted their rhetoric to predictions and then fact. The night before the announcement of the new VC, I saw many posts already celebrating one of the contestants who ended up not even making the top three, with people capturing their hopes as BREAKING NEWS.
What this did was morph what was mere dreams of many people into morbid entitlement mindset, the consequence of which was frustration, hate and unpardonable clannish thinking even by very highly respectable ones, many of whom rose to high positions on the back of merit and broadmindedness of people not from their place of origin.
Zik was stupid. How could he not have seen that the day would come when the people in whose land he sited what was once Africa’s greatest university would one day begin to express hate that someone from his own side of same Igbo land was made a Vice Chancellor at a time the “land owners” had desired same position. Zik never learned from history. Same fate befell him when he elected to contest the parliamentary position in the south west, thinking we were all one Nigeria, only to have the rug pulled from under him by defecting members of his political party, the NCNC. Had he disposed himself to learning from this experience, he probably would have anticipated the current conversation around the VC-ship of UNN and sited the institution in Onitsha or nearly Ogidi, Atani or even Ihiala.
I have read a number of people express their views on this. I have seen their arguments. While the most intelligent of them claim that only a Vice Chancellor from Nsukka can and will reverse the shameful decay in the university, the rest merely want the bragging rights of having their kin as VC.
But let us ask the core question: Is it true that only an Nsukka person will reverse UNN’s totally unacceptable decay? I am not sure the answer is a certain “yes”. And I will draw from a few examples. The best Vice Chancellor this university has had since I began to hear and understand stories around this great institution from my father and an uncle who worked in the university, was Prof Frank Ndili. He initiated most of the projects currently uncompleted in the university. He envisioned the Nnamdi Azikiwe Library, the biggest of such in Africa at the time. Not sure there has been a bigger one. He foresaw the growth of the university and initiated the Franco Hostels project. He initiated many other projects and was set to continue when a group, later known as The Nine Professors began a flurry of petitions and protests that saw the end of his tenure.
Prof Ndili is from Delta State, then Bendel State. He is not from Nsukka.
Prof Ndili’s exit opened the gates for the decadence. Prof Chimere Ikoku sat through his tenure like he did not know what was going on. Prof Oleka Udelala was accused of corruption and had running battles with the Student Union Government until he left. Prof Umaru Gomwalk, a Sole Administrator that was brought in 1995 spent his days infusing military style management into the university system and although he did not stay long, lecturers quickly acquired this trait and had behaved much the same way every since. Since Gomwalk, a man who rebuilt the Akanu Ibiam Stadium only for it to collapse not long after, the whole lot of the Vice Chancellors in UNN have been worse than vandals, stripping the institution of all its most valuable assets which are honour, dignity and academic excellence. UNN became a diary cow to be milked by any person who finds himself in charge. From departments, through faculties to the VC’s office’ from refectories to porters and spanning all levels of support non-academic staff, the rot was pandemic and it became clear that a University VC is a political position where billions could be made at the expense of propriety and good conscience.
This last Vice Chancellor spent his five years in a hail of allegations of corruption and abandonment of due process. Rumours were rife about the employment racket in the institution where people were said to have “purchased” jobs for as much as N1.5 million many of our people did not complain against this terribly flawed process, perhaps because, as I later learned, more than 47 percent of beneficiaries were from Nsukka.
If, as many believe, this outgoing Vice Chancellor was poor in performance, have we conducted any audit to determine how many of our Nsukka sons and daughters were complicit?
The second example, I beg all readers, will be drawn from outside the UNN environment even as it is quite relevant. During the 2011 Presidential elections, a lot of people had expected the then candidate of the PDP, President Goodluck Jonathan to take very personal, the job of lifting his Niger Delta region in the areas of infrastructure and general sense of connection to the Nigerian nation. But Jonathan, from Bayelsa State, won the elections and could not do anything either in his home state or in the wider South South region apart from a big hotel his wife erected in Yenagoa, the state capital. The politically vexed East-West road was never touched and the Nigeria Delta University he sited in Otuoke made records as the only university where the number or those in the non0academic staff outnumbered the total student population.
It is worrying that we are not strategic in any of our conversations around political issues. I have seen a number of “saints” of Nsukka origin make veiled and open reference to the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as responsible for the failure of Nsukka to produce the UNN VC. These saints with all their halos of wretched anointing failed to see how difficult it was going to be for anybody to perform the magic of driving the interest of Nsukka people when at the onset of the VC-ship contest, more than 60 Nsukka professors threw their hats, hoods and gowns in the ring, each desiring the position.
I think we need to be a lot more strategic. We also need to guard our utterances. The bile spewed from my Nsukka brothers against our brothers from Anambra and other parts of Igbo land since this loss is frightening. I am not sure any one f them is aware that the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Agriculture, Umudike, is an Nsukka man. Prof Edoga is from Eha Afifi (Eha Imuhu). I am wondering what would have been the reaction of my people if Umudike people had protested his selection on the basis of where he came from and the fact that no Umudike son or daughter had been VC of the university in their town before.
The energy people have dissipated in moaning and mourning a loss they could never have determined its potential, had it gone the other way, would have been channeled towards engaging the eventual winner constructively on how to arrest the regression that UNN has been made to undergo over the past two decades or so. The new Vice Chancellor, a man who came to Nsukka as a young boy and who rose to the position from a very lowly position in the non-academic section of UNN should be as much an Nsukka person as any other. People should think of how best to make him work for the good of the university instead of compelling him, through parochial, sectional rhetoric, to realize how distant he has always been from a people in whose land he transformed from an ordinary lab hand to an extraordinary egghead..
This is still possible.
And let me also say this here: if in the next five years, 60 of Nsukka professors line up for just one Vice Chancellorship position in UNN, an outsider will most likely still take it. House cleaning is important. But more important is the love in our hearts for one and all and the strategic thinking in our heads to fashion the “How-Bests” in making something out of difficult circumstances and the tactical deftness in our hands to be seen to not be spinning hate of potentially xenophobic proportions, masking our latent inability to compete. Politics › Re: Tinubu: A Formidable Force In Nigerian Politics by meccuno: 12:04pm On May 24, 2019 |
[s] waley007: Each time I hear people, majorly the other tribes aside yoruba say negative things about Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I laugh. I have never met him, neither is he feeding me. But I have been able to study him like a book and see the qualities of a good leader in him. No amount of O to gee can stop Tinubu. Except God Certainly, Tinubu will have his shortcomings. But his critic is not perfect. Don't hate Tinubu. Learn a lesson from him. The lesson below...
Amongst the current politicians, no one is as visionary as Tinubu. If Lagos is working and exemplary amongst all the states in Nigeria, it has the visionary foundation and supervision of Tinubu. The lgbo who has no single significant leader can say anything about Tinubu. It's a free world. Talk is free. But listen to me, anyday, anytime, I will certainly buy any of his authored books on leadership... and raising leaders.
Leaders have no two assignments but raising new leaders. This is the power of Tinubu. You can't destroy a leader who has raised more leaders, even if that person is your worst enemy. You can't eliminate him unless you remove the solid men around him. Leaders such like... * Prof Yemi Osinbajo (Tinubu's Attorney General now Vice President). * Kayode Fayemi (former Minister for Solid Minerals now Ekiti Governor). * Babatunde Fashola (Two-time Governor and now a Minister). * Lai Mohammed ... Tinubu's Chief of Staff now Minister for Information * Babatunde Fowler (Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue). * Senator Adeleke Mamora ... Speaker of Lagos House of Assembly under Tinubu now Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority * Akinwunmi Ambode (Accountant under Tinubu now Lagos State Governor) * Muiz Banire ( Tinubu's commissioner now Chairman AMCON). * Adeola Rahman Ipaye (Deputy Chief of Staff to the President). * Ben Akabueze (Tinubu's commissioner now Special Adviser to the President on National Planning). * Abike Dabiri-Erewa (Former TV Presenter to Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora) * Babafemi Ojudu (Special Adviser to the President on political Matters). * Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire (Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals). * Rauf Aregbesola... Tinubu's commissioner now Former Governor, Osun State * Adegboyega Oyetola, governor Osun state * Akeredolu, Ondo governor sourced his politics from Tinubu * Bayo Onanuga (DG News Agency of Nigeria) Even the incoming rep speaker, Gbajabiamila is a product of tinubu as we can also see the way he's going about his campaign to becoming the speaker
The list is endless. Scores of Senators, House of Rep members, Civil Servants, even some Traditional Rulers, etc. The current leadership of Nigeria under Mohammadu Buhari is largely a creation of Tinubu. Please show me anybody from Ojukwu, Babangida, Obasanjo, chuba Okadgbo, Orji Uzor Kalu, Rochas Okorocha, Peter Obi, Jonathan to Buhari who has produced men as Tinubu.
Overtime Tinubu cultivated and placed his men in position of influence, thereby building a solid block of loyal leaders within his network. His godfatherism may look odd to many, but you can't deny his leadership. Tinubu did not just build men outside his home, he built his wife also, Those who think it is their duty to destroy Tinubu, just as some did to Awolowo between 60s and 80s should be ready to first destroy the solid men he has built. Learn this lesson my friend: in all your aspirations and dealings with men, build others. Build leaders and the men you build will build your legacy. Tinubu is a mere human being, like all of us. But when a man does well, let us acknowledge it, praise him and give thanks to God for him.
The point is that, it is on record that Tinubu has done brilliantly well in terms of his leadership quality style and laying a formidable foundation of development in present Lagos which had been a reference point as far as his capacity to perform is concerned...He has also succeeded in raising formidable and quality set of leaders to assume various leadership positions both in Lagos State and Nigeria in general based on merit and capacity without recourse to ethnic or religion affiliations...
Yes, he might not turn Nigeria to US but will definitely make a great impact in transforming Nigeria fro present state to a better one...IF he eventually declare his intention to run for No 1 position in Nigeria... Let us picture Bola Tinubu speaking in an international event as a Nigerian president
This is my view. It is not a must you agree with me... Let us read this view and compare with political leaders across the country.. Let them name those they brought up so we can see. Thanks
