superstar1: Why did Ironsi cancelled the regional system, if there was no hidden agenda of your usual "domination" -- whatever that means?
Ironsi became the military head of state under the unitary system and the last time i checked, he was from.the SE of.the Niger.
Yea, igbos were more in the federal civil service because others were more interested in their regional civil service. The unitary system.gives the igbos the opportunity to be posted to other parts of the country especially the north, because of their educational backwardness.
That is how the igbos enjoyed the unitary system. but awolowo was a very bright individual.....he was in gowons government....why did he advice the regime to revert back to the status quo......let's assume the military wasn't "bright" enough to do the needful.....obasanjo and shagari where both civilian govt who had the opportunity. Of having technocrats......why didn't they revert?? It speaks volume when you try to blame igbos for something that happened more than 40 years ago when the opportunity to revert presented itself several times.....that's not an excuse please |

FolarinLondon: I want you to read this with an open mind, impartiality and fault/pick the points/assertions/facts you think are not right from my write up. This is d story of Nigeria; Let's see who is at fault here cos we are always pick on Hausa/Fulanis............
Historically, Hausas/Fulanis formed alliance politically in the first republic while Yoruba party led by Obafemi Awolowo remained active in the west. (Igbos didn't see themselves as slaves to Hausas/Fulanis then cos they are not d Yorubas). Read on pls...
Igbos(Easterners) have always been an active members of every military/civilian government/administrations since the first republic and all the subsequent military administrations. Nnamdi Azikwe was a Governor-General/president while Tafawa Balewa was a prime minister while Yoruba politicians are only active the regional level. Nnamdi Azikwe party formed alliance with Hausa/Fulani party when the latter was unable to win a majority both and nobody screamed blue murder................(Igbos are friends with Hausas not slaves until Yorubas formed alliance with Hausa)
In 1963, the coup that killed a whole lot of Northern and western top military officers and politicians was led by Easterners(Igbos) and no single soul from the East either in military or politics lost his life despite the fact that there was an existing alliance between Igbo party and Hausa/Fulani party; both parties formed that tagged corrupt government(according to Nzeogwu but only Hausa/Fulanis were corrupt in that government with their ally(Akintola) in the west). I presume you can feel the pains of the Northerners and some Westerners.......
Who subsquently became an acting Prime minister when Tafawa Balewa went missing? Nwafo Orizu(Igbo) became an acting Prime minister and subsquently handed over power to Major-General JTU Aguiyi-Ironsi (Igbo), the GOC of the Nigerian Army.
Aguiyi Ironsi(Igbo) became a president and single-handedly destroyed our flourishing regional governments in his quest to have control over all the regional governments. Read this Bro, Aguiyi Ironsi refused to killed or failed to put the coup plotters (Igbos) on a trial as was advised by Northerners' politicians and ended up transfering all these coup plotters to the Eastern prison. Can you imagine Igbos being subjected to this kind of treatment ina ny government? Igbos would definitely screamed blue murder.
Against all advice, Ironsi promulgated Decree Number 34 of 1966, which abrogated the federal system of government and substituted a unitary system. He didn't stopped there, Aguiyi Ironsi went ahead and appointed Igbos to every sensitive governmental positions. The same thing is repeating itself in 2014 again and i am wondering what Igbos would say/do in this century if an Hausa man become a president either in 2015/2019 when everybody has now witnessed their behaviour under Jonathan administration...............
Northerners started their own madness in 1966 i presumed (The Killing of innocent Igbos on the street of Northern Nigeria) which was barbaric but the subsequent coup which equally led to the death of loads of military officers from Eastern part of the country was good and justified to me though cos what goes around, comes around; And to every actions, there must/would be a reaction.
However, Northerners military took over power from where Aguiyi Ironsi left it-Unitary system of government led by Igbo and life has never been the same ever since again.
Second republic came in to place in 1979 and westerners weren't active in this administration because south west party(AG) which was led by chief Obafemi Awolowo narrowly lost the election to Shagari led party. And again, second alliance came between Igbo party and Hausa/Fulanis party...............Westerners remained active in the west throughout this administration. (Igbo never see themselves as slaves to Hausa/Fulanis during this period)
Military took over power again and straight back to where we were after d first republic until Obasanjo(Yoruba) was forced on us by Northern military cabals in 1999. Howerver, Yorubas waited for Obasanjo at the polls and did what was necessary at that point it time; Obansanjo was completely rejected by south westerners through their votes but managed to get Easterners and Northerners votes.
And before i go, Igbos-from Soludo, ezekweseli, Ngozi Iwela, Okadigbos, Adolp Wabara, Nnamani, Ekwerem, Thomas Aguiyi Ironsi, joy ogwu, Iyorcia Iyu, chukwuemeka chikelu, Frank Nweke, Lesley obiora, Okereke-Stock Xchange, DG Nafdac-Dora Akunyili dominated his administration and in Eastern quest to tagged that government a failed government, they failed to realise that it was their brothers and sisters in this goverment that failed cos Obasanjo wouldn't have able to single-handedly taken decisions while people like Nnamani, Okadigbo and Wabara are in Senate...........
And finally, can you now tell me who dominated this existing failed government? Igbos i presumed and d only active member of this administration is Akinwumi who is from Western part of the country and Stellah Oduah(Having seen what she did compare to no attempt in the past, she tried;my own opinion though and d corruption issue is a topic for another day)
South westerns will never support their own son who has been found guilty on corruption charges- Bankole, Bode George could only get things done politically in PDP but let them come to main Yoruba political sphere and see how they would be treated..................
Pls, can u tell me who has been causing problems from what you read up there in all fairness? well....we all know who and who wrecked Nigeria......1966 - 1970 was a period of 4 years which Nigeria went through crises......but 1970-1999 is equally a longer period of time which the Northerners and the South westerners were in power......they had the chance to make it right.....one thing you should understand is that you have a leader from a tribe is one thing.....and you have the workers who are from a particular tribe is another thing.......e.g former minister of aviation.....there were so many things that happened in the aviation sector which probably most of you didn't know about but that's for another day........you have whatever notions as fact and I am not here to either change ur beliefs.....you can live with it......what caught my fancy was when you said "South westerns will never support their own son who has been found guilty on corruption charges"........what was awolowo convicted for? And what were the allegations labelled against abiola which FELA of blessed memory sang about? To the best of my knowledge, these two men are gods in the SW.......so I don't know what you are talking about |

The palestinians can only trace their origins as far as the ottoman empire. There is no such thing as "palestine" .because "palestinians" then referred to both the jews and arabs.it was the invention of the romans to spite the jews. If the "palestinians" had adhered to their own side of the agreement made by the british, they wouldn't be fighting this war. Since their intention was to throw the jews into the sea. The Northerners who are the ones in the number one position aren't as vocal as their brothers in the SW. But one thing they do that surprises me is that they believe solely in the opinions of the same voices that have always been passing their messages through the media which they control. Lagos isn't Nigeria and would never be. There are 36 states and one won't determine who becomes the Commander in chief. The funny aspect is that I have never seen where a VP campaigns more than the president who wants to rule. People should try and seek opinions of other tribes and their people to understand how Nigeria works. Because some might be living in the illusion of lagos as what determines and would be living in self denial. |

Counting how many Ibos are left in villages waiting opportunity to migrate to Yorubaland, Ijawland and Hausaland.
Now, look at those three ethnic lands i just mentioned and you will instantly recognize that these are the current power brokers in Nigeria. Right?
Ibo did not loose its political grip because it was marginalized...rather because it abandoned its political base! New power brokers are waiting in the wing to vie for power control at the top....the Igalas, Kanuris, Tivis, Efiks....
Ibo displaced itself from majority and power brokerage. I dont know what they should do to get it back but I know for sure we welcome the few headcount left in village to cross over to Yorubaland. Their constitutional right is always protected on our land. They can make their money here and even buy land and build mansions. the more you keep making these statements, the more you keep living in illusion and self denial.Igbos tend to migrate to different parts of the country not only lagos. There is no perfect person, system or government. Governor Fashola should step-up his hustle on these projects.
Budget 101
There is a difference between
1 i have N5000 in the bank to buy a wrist watch (Qatar)
2 I was hoping to be able to raise N5000 (from taxes )in the next year , to buy a watch. but my roof ha started leaking today. I will try to raise the money next year.
3 I am hoping to raise N5000 for my saving account ( do nothing)
Apart from number one who has endless supply of money , you are assuming from the theory of the expectation that everything goes on smoothly on a project. E.g There is hardly a project in Lagos which does not go through litigation. People are always suing the government for the most mundane of things. Ebola was not budgetted for . The Lagos state government took on the responsibilities of the absent federal government. Do you know that the Lagos metro project is being held back by Jonathan's government envious politics and bad belle .the metro has to go through a corridor held by the federal government (not owned ,all lands in Lagos are on lease )
Reality is a b*t*ch . Project management,PMP and prince 2 theory stops at the doors of reality . No project get done without money. When funds are limited or when the hope of project being funded has a small window of opportunity, your theory goes out of the window. Lagos is a poor state single handedly carrying the weight of a country.houses are being built and Streets are being created faster than the state can afford to pave old streets or repair damaged roads.
Finally ,There are those who genuinely want to draw the attention of the SG to their neighbourhood. There are also those who want to introduce that regressive type of governance and politics . Their job is that being down the best amongst us like they did to Awolowo.
Food for thought You only need to visit the group Facebook pages of the person who put up post like this . Just 2 out of every 10 post is made by someone can be considered as making a measured or critical opinion .whether for or against, you've to respect the opinions of such people. The irony was that most of the post against APC were made by persons who reside but are not from those states. Their states are too good and transformational for them to stay. Hmm , you wonder why? No concept of government or governance . That is why. Why should you listen to such people. You have 2 choices if you are still sitting on the fence. Your culture , values and future or a street no one has heard of. Mobilise to extricate ourselves from that cesspit. Time to end monkey dey work baboon dey chop country.
In 6 months in a bad economy . This is what was declared , most of it has probably gone undeclared
Value Added Tax :N407.95bn, Company Income Tax of N422.63bn Customs & Excise Duties of N257.91bn
Most of this is coming out of Lagos , ogun and Ibadan . Like someone wrote ,Even after compensating for loss of population. That is more money being taken out of Lagos than any state contributes. True federalism and resource control will change that. geez....reading through your post was hell......didn't you do summary in school? |

gratiaeo: FROM DESMOND MGBOH, KANO
The Kano State police command said yesterday that the Igbo or indeed, any non-indigene was behind the December 10 explosion at the Kanti Kwari Market.
According to the Commissioner, Alhaji Adenrele Shinaba, the arrest of an indigenous female suicide bomber gave a lie to such rumour.
“That is a clear indication that the rumour making the round is not only malicious, but unfounded. We want the members of the public to disabuse their minds as regards this unfounded rumour,” Shinaba said.
“We want to disabuse the minds of the members of the public that a tribe is behind it. This is not an inter-tribal war. It is an act of terrorism. It has nothing to do with any government; it has nothing to do with any tribe.
“I think trouble-makers, people who thrive and benefit from violence, are the master-minds of this wicked and ugly rumour” he added.
Alhaji Aderenle said, “we know we have a common enemy which are the terrorists and we cannot start fighting ourselves because that is the aim of the terrorists, to cause confusion , to look for soft targets and create panic, fear……..
“What we are saying is that the people that are saying that they are going to attack non- indigenes living in Sabon Gari, we want them to realize that whoever is doing so , is doing so at his or her own peril. We are law enforcement agents; we are security agents; we would not allow that. We must protect everybody living here.

Politics › Re: Militancy Quickly Resurfacing In The Niger Delta by meccuno: 9:13pm On Dec 25, 2014 |
clevvermind: this is boko haram vs militants. who will do more damage? God help us. human lives would be lost if BH steps up their campaign of terror in terror in the NE.But f the militants resurface, economic damage would be catastrophic. Looking at the bigger picture,I think handling the militancy in the SS should be one that has to be taken seriously. The multiplier effect is unimaginable. |
