FBS:Barcelona are the defending champions. They defeated Estudiantes 2 - 1 of Argentina in the final last year. Barcelona were also runners up in 2006, losing 1 - 0 to Internacional of Brazil, no thanks to an Alexandre Pato goal. Real Madrid were also winners in 2002 defeating Once Caldes of Colombia, 2 - 0. Real Madrid have also won it on many other occasions. Which EPL team apart from Man Utd have won the Club World Cup? ![]() |

Gai Assulin has joined Manchester City on a free transfer. Bad move IMO. He is only 19 and should have waited for his chance to break into the first team. He will hardly get any playing time in City. Nolito who is 24 and Thiago are patiently waiting for their chance to break into the first team, he should have emulated them. . . He was one of La Masia's brightest prodigy and at 19 was already dubbed the 'Isreali Messi' |
eldee:gbam! 34 league goals, 47 goals in all competitions + 10 assists. . . what more can one ask for? |
ayusco:Like I earlier said and will continue to say, everyone on the final list of three deserves his place. Sneijder should have been there, but ahead of who? Whose place should he have taken? Messi is the best player in the world. He proves this week in, week out. He was European Golden Boot winner with 68 points, a whooping 10 points ahead of second placed Drogba. He was Pichichi winner with 34 goals. He was CL's top scorer with 8 goals. He scored 47 goals in all competitions. He went to the world cup though not scoring a goal was still one of the most exciting players at the mundial and was selected amongst the tournament's 10 best players. He played in a deeper role behind Higuain and Tevez and would have had a goal if not that Tevez headed in his well chipped ball that was already on its way into the net. Not a bad world cup if you ask me and IMO, he deserves the award. Xavi is best midfielder in the world and the genius behind Barca and Spain's passing game. When you see Barca and Spain amassing over 70 - 80% of ball possession, it is because Xavi simply wouldn't let the opposition have the ball. He hardly ever misplaces a pass and gifted with a vision that can simply be described as mythical. He won the league with Barca and also made to CL semi's. He was very instrumental to Spain's truimph at the world cup. He won two man of the match awards and also made two assists. He was also listed among the tournaments best players. Iniesta played a handful of games for Barca during the course of last season but went to the world cup and shone. Together with Xavi, he ran Spain's midfield and most importantly he scored the world cup winning goal. More often than not, the scorer of a winning goal in a world cup final automatically gets him in the running for the world's best footballer and often goes on to win. Zidane scored twice in the 1998 final and went on to become the world footballer of the year. Was he the best player at the world cup? No. Infact, he was sent off in one of the group games. The other thing he had achieved that season was getting to the CL final with Juventus playing in the midfield where he was overshadowed by Del Pierro. He wasnt as brilliant as the previous season where he came 3rd in the WPOTY awards. The same thing happened with Ronaldo in 2002. He was the highest goal scorer at world cup, scored the two goals in the final and went on to become the WPOTY despite not starting a single league game. The winning goal in the world cup final is very important. Sneijder led his team to the treble and was whiskers away from winning the wc? True but was he really the one that led Inter to the treble? Are we forgetting a certain Diego Milito that won Inter the champions league by scoring twice in the final, won Inter the league by scoring the winning goal on the last day when it looked as though Roma had won it and also scored the winner in the Coppa Italia final. Let's not forget that there was also the pair of Lucio and Walter Samuel that made Inter's defence impregnable. Now to the wc, I'll say Sneijder was just there. He was not bad but wasn't exceptional either. He scored 5 goals? Well, one was aided by Felipo Melo and another was another deflection by a Uruguayan. Truth is Sneijder does not deserve more of a place than any of the players in the running |
TP Mazembe are good. They are showing us that their winning the CAF CL back to back was no fluke. This has got to be the first time an African club will go this far |

Another twist to Ogoli’s death uncovered Following the death of Ocean Boys’ defender, Emmanuel Ogoli, on Sunday while running out against Niger Tornadoes in a Week 6 game in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL), it is understood that the left-back had collapsed six weeks ago during a training session. SuperSport.com was informed on Monday morning by an official of the former Nigerian champions that Ogoli in early November had suffered a relapse in a training session. The official, who pleaded for anonymity, said the player was passed fit before Sunday’s tragic game in which Ogoli, 21, slumped just 39 minutes into the match before he was confirmed dead at an undisclosed hospital in Yenagoa. “The late player actually fainted I think about six weeks ago if I’m not mistaken during one of the team’s training session. But after that time he was okay though he suffered a slight injury in between in one of our games, which he quickly recovered from. But before yesterday’s (Sunday’s) game he did not show any sign to suspect that such terrible occurrence will happen. “For us, this is sad news because no one prays for anyone to die in this kind of way. We pray that God will grant the family the heart to bear this loss and also those of us remaining here at Ocean Boys,” the official disclosed. Ocean Boys’ team doctor, Erefa Inengibo, had earlier been reported by SuperSport.com saying that late Ogoli and other players passed every routine check and pre-season medical tests. “The management (of Ocean Boys) is always particular about the condition of our players. Even before the season started, we conducted tests on all the players. Emma (Ogoli) was no exception and we found him to be in perfect condition. “Last month, he was also at the hospital for routine check-ups and we found him to be fit as fiddle. We ascertained his stamina and endurance levels and the results were satisfactory so this is clearly a shock,” Inengibo said. http://naijaligue..com/ |

chic2pimp:why you dey yarn like this? Didnt Maxi Lopez and Dani Guiza play in front of this same midfield? Why didnt they deliver? Messi is good and he'll deliver wherever he finds himself. Everyone on that list deserves his place |
MeGaStReEt:I dont really understand your post but I think you're implicitly trying to say that the La Liga is not competitive. Barcelona and Real Madrid are very good teams and wouldn't do any different if they were in any other league. Contrary to what you think, the other teams in the league can hold their own too. Villareal finished 2nd ahead of Barca who finished third in 07/08 season. Last season Madrid lost to Sevilla and Alcocorn and Barca lost to Atletico last season and Hercules this season. I think the best way to measure the level of a league's competitiveness is by looking at how teams in that particular league fare against teams from other leagues in continental competitions and if you look at the UEFA Champions League and Europa League, you'll see that Spanish teams are in the ascendancy. La Liga with 12 CL trophies is only second to Serie A in terms of number of CL trophies. It's the same in the Europa League where teams like Zaragoza, Valencia, Sevilla and Atletico have all won the competition. Nobody cares how predictable or unpredictable results in a league are, it's how teams perform in continental competitions that matter. If it were by predictability and unpredictability of results then we can the Turkish and Dutch leagues are the most competitive because they produce new league champions |

AjanleKoko:yeah, the new shirt sponsorship deal with Qatar Foundation, I think it's a great deal. €166m for 6 years sponsorship. I dont understand the ruckus this is generating. We are being portrayed as sell outs for ending the UNICEF deal. I think its best we generate money via any available means especially with the club in some sort of debts |
