I can visualize them heaving a huge sigh of relief in Munich on hearing this news. Bayern's chances are a little brighter now with Rafa out of the picture.

I think the fact that other teams have strengthened in the Serie A also didn't help him. Serie A this season is much tougher than it has ever been in recent times. Milan, Lazio, Napoli are stronger sides now. Mourinho was very lucky in the sense that his Inter team was hungry and also reigned supreme in the league at a time when the other teams were just disillusioned.
To bad the board wont consider all of these and will just compare the Mourinho era with Rafa's

I think he just needed time. He is one of the best coaches around.
This was one of the most difficult jobs available. By taking this job, he stepped into some mighty large shoes and was always going to be compared to his very successful predecessor.
He was also very unlucky to have been appointed Inter's coach at a time when the Inter team have reached the peak of success; motivation was always going to be a challenge

WoW! I just discovered this thread! Didn't know there were so many of us Barca fans in naija, whenever I start to discuss football with most peeps & they discover I'm such a big footie fan, they ask what club I support & when I say Barca, they go "yeah, everyone likes to watch Barca, but what club do you support"? Of cos, they expect that I support some premiership club or the other (typical naija bandwagon), but in my family, we all support "strange" clubs (Barca, AC Milan, Inter-yes Inter!)

Sometimes I dont understand Pep! He was in some strange experimenting mood today. Bilbao is always a tricky customer & I dont know why he didnt start with the full team. He really should have rested Messi after we went 4-1 up against Espanyol on Saturday. He keeps Messi on in every match when we're flogging opponents (even brought him in for the meaningless match against Rubin Kazan) & now when we really needed him, he was kept on the bench.

Mwhile, Keita is by some distance the worst Barca player. I've always felt that he & not Toure should have been sold in the summer. He has zero creativity so is of no value in attacking MF & doesn't track back well enough to help the defence. I told a friend immediately that we wont create much with Keita in MF.

Still talking about Pep's experiment, I'm sure Pep knows already that Iniesta is far more dangerous in MF, not left wing. Iniesta started this season on the left wing & that was when we struggled to score. As soon as Iniesta moved to MF & attack became Messi/Villa/Pedro. Why play Iniesta on the wing in this match?

As for Bojan, he just wasn't in this match, although asking him to play upfront alone was such a big ask. Unfortunately, he also flapped the few chances he got. He's one for the future, but shouldn't have started this match.

The positive part though is I was happy to see Pinto get a run-out. Masch was really impressive - the guy is soo mobile! I'll like to see him play far more often cos IMO he's better that Busquests.


I have a feeling Pep was a bit over-confident, thinking that any line-up he fields will win the match, especially after the B team won the last round in the Cup & also beat Kazan.

I'm hopeful that we can get at least a score draw in Bilbao, but it would have been nice to wrap this up now & focus on the league in the 1st few weeks of January, especially since we go to Deportivo just days after the trip to Bilbao.

Its sad to see our winning streak of 10 games come to an end.
The line up and formation was quite strange. We played more of a 4-4-2 today with Pedro and Bojan up front.

GYAN has been the most outstanding African player this year. I dont think Etoo was a fair choice, the hand of Issa Hayatou again.

Gyan was better than Etoo in CAN 2010 leading his young and inexperienced side all the way to the final before narrowly losing to the Egyptians. He even scored the goal that sent our own Eagles packing.

At the World cup, he yet again outshone Etoo. He was so good that his goals took his team to the quarter finals, though his penalty miss also saw them missing out on a chance to play in the semis; a feat which would have been an unprecedented one by any African side.

The young man moved to Sunderland in the summer and already he s setting the premiership on fire with his goals.

As an ardent Super Eagles fan, i have nt forgiven Gyan for scoring against us in the Nations' Cup semi final match(lol) but as a supporter of football, i submit that GYAN and not Etoo deserved to be named King of African football 2010.

Gyan doesn't even deserve to be in the running. Was there anything exceptional about Gyan's performance in the year under review? How many goals did he score for Rennes? How many goals did he score at the Nations Cup in Angola?
At the world cup, he scored two penalties and one goal and of course, he ballooned the chance to put Ghana's name in the history books of African football.
Is it with these average performances that he deserves to win the African Player of the Year?
In my opinion, Drogba had the best individual performance in the year under review. He played a very vital role in Chelsea's league and cup win. He was only second to Messi as highest goal scorer in all of Europe with 29 goals. He scored 37 goals in all competitions. He also scored a goal at the world cup despite playing through pains.
Yes, Eto'o won the treble but in my opinion, he wasn't so fantastic. He scored 18 goals in all competitions which is a poor return for someone like Eto'o
