By Aderinsola Ajao | 234next.com | October 29, 2009 02:27PMT Nigeria's Kachi Ozumba has been named as the winner of the Africa regional prize of the 2009 Commonwealth short story competition. His story, The one-armed thief, was adjudged as the best from the region in the yearly competition. Three other Nigerians were named in the ‘Highly Commended' category. They are Ayobami Adebayo for his story ‘Dreams', Akinwumi Akinwale for LIFO and Mbofung Carlang for ‘The Father's blessings'. The overall prize was won by Jennifer Moore from the United Kindom. The Commonwealth Broadcasting Association, the organiser of the competition describes her winning story Table Talk as "a witty and poignant conversation about life and death." Moore's winning story was the best story from the Canada and Europe region before winning the overall prize. Winners were chosen from about 4000 entries sent in from all Commonwealth countries. Since its establishment in 1996, the Commonwealth Short Story competition is open to writers from Commonwealth member- countries and continues to promote new voices in creative writing. |

Yoruba know how to fight war in the press. That is why instead of lying down (dobale) and begging the Enugu Governor to give them land, they went to the press to complain. It is this same Yoruba Yoruba press that the Yoruba have employed to tell lies and twist facts all these years. Now with the internet and easy news circulation, the whole world knows that Yoruba are nothing but empty-barrelled crooks. They do not even know how to steal, hence they get caught in thousands everyday, with news about them on many international fora. If you are the Gov of Enugu and you receive such news on the internet, will you oblige them any land, even in the desert? Useless people. Na so so mouth and obo ati Oko they get, nothing more. |

Becomerich AKA Complove, You better shut that retarded mouth of yours. Yoruba are looking for land to build their cultural centre in Enugu. Do you think a handful of people can do that? There are at least 50, 000 Yorubas in Enugu alone to be able to request for land to build a cultural centre. One man or few people cannot be embarking on such. Those Yoruba in Enugu are there to stay for life. Otherwise they won't be talking of a cultural centre. Use your brain for once, fool. |

@Yommy UK, is UK for father's land? During xmas, easter and new yam festivities, you need to see how the roads are blocked with Igbo people migrating back home. We stay were we choose but we have our minds at home. + The fact that half of the students in your universities are Igbo and the fact that 0.0003% of students in Igbo universities are Yoruba speaks volume of who is who in present-day Nigeria. YommyUK, How ever way the Yoruba view Igbos in Yorubaland, should have been the same way Igbo view Yoruba in Igboland. But there is a big difference namely in the fact that Igbos have been killed, harassed and kidnapped in Yorubaland while the opposite is the case in Igboland. Remember the Igbo traders who were kidnapped by Yoruba people in Owo? Did we revenge? Have we demolished any of your shops? Have we killed any of you? |

I just boarded a bus in Aba, and both the driver and the conductor are Yoruba. The current gateman in my house is Yoruba, whom I employed yesterday. Before you ask me about my car(s), I am trying to experiment with the Yoruba people in Abia State to see if they behave like the Yoruba in Yorubland (you know what I mean). |
