PoliticsOnly An Igbo Man Can Do This. Seriously by mekuslogan(op): 3:17am On Oct 04, 2009
This man built, Peter Ngwu, a house, raised 2 graduates selling chewing sticks (PICTURE)
From TUNDE RAHEEM Akure

Friday, October 2, 2009

It sounds incredible that somebody could build a house and train children up to the university level, selling common chewing stick {pako}. But, this is true of a popular chewing stick seller in Akure ,Ondo State, Peter Ngwu, who has been in the business for over 30 years.

Ngwu, 63, said despite meagre returns, he has trained two of his children to university level.

The Ebonyi State- born father of five children said in an interview with Daily Sun that contrary to the view that whoever was dealing in his kind of business was a wretched man, he has been in the business for over three decades and made a success of it.

Baba pako as he is popularly called by his teeming customers said he had built his own house and trained his children to university level adding that : “I am still training the remaining three, I give glory to God”

On how he became a chewing stick seller, Ngwu said he was a successful business man dealing in kitchen utensils with a store at Arakale area. “I was doing fine in the business until I was robbed by an armed robbery syndicate at upper Uwenka in Onitsha many years back, Baba pako said, saying that the robbers carted away all his money meant to purchase goods to replenish his store at gun point in Onitsha. The development ruined him financially.

He was jobless for a long time, before a friend came to introduce the chewing stick business to him. “When he mentioned the business, I felt bad and I thought in my mind that how come somebody who was dealing in kitchen utensils in a big form would suddenly become a chewing stick seller. But, when there was no hope of getting money to continue the business, I didn’t have option than to accept the offer”

He said his friend gave him some money to start the business and after sometime the business gradually boomed. Ngwu said at a stage he used to make between N700 and N1000 profit per day.

Baba pako gets his bulk supplies from Calabar for both whole and retail sales in Akure.

He explained this : “It is very scarce to get the sticks here in Ondo State, but in Calabar, they plant them in large quantities, because they take it as a big time business, unlike in Ondo State.

Ngwu advised jobless youths to embark on cottage business that could keep them busy rather than engaging on unwholesome acts capable of ruining their lives.

Charley Boy undergoes plastic surgery

Just some few weeks after the burial of the King of Pop, words reaching Trend'tainment is that King of Punk in the Nigerian entertainment industry Charles Oputa a.k.a Charley Boy and acclaimed Area Fada has undergone a plastic surgery. The Area Fada was recently seen on a musical location somewhere around LEKKI Lagos State with international acclaimed dance hall maestro, Dr Alban for the shooting of the musical video collaboration they did together and that was where the revelation was made; Charley Boy did not only travel to Sweden on a musical tour with Dr Alban but he also went there for a face lift. His new look is of an Arabian Prince, though many believe it was a decoy to conceal his new face. He was edgy throughout the shooting of the video as he instructed his body guards to obstruct photographers from taking his snapshots. Trend'tainment gathered that his face looked a bit thin and very firm. All the fat around his face has disappeared all of a sudden. He also looked too young for his age and he only allowed his wife, Lady Diane, to make him up. When asked why he is going the Wacko way, he denied the allegation and he became violent when asked again as he claimed that he had an accident in Sweden during a boxing exercise with his pairing partner which shifted his jaw causing it to be rectified through a surgical operation.

Nigerian to build Iraqi railway

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Nex, -146/story.csp

A Nigerian engineer, Jude Igwemezie, has won a $500 million
contract to build a monorail network in Iraq.
Mr. Igwemezie trained and lives in Canada; he also heads
TransGlobim International, the engineering company that won
the bid. The contract is to construct what is described as
“a viable rail transportation network” for the city of
Najaf. The network will connect three Islamic holy and
historic mosques in Imam Ali, Kufa and Sahle.
Frustration of selling good ideas in Nigeria
An elated Mr. Igwemezie told NEXT in a telephone interview
that the project is billed to be completed in three years,
and will be built in two phases. The first phase, he said,
will cover the design, construction and operation of the
system while the second phase will involve the expansion of
the system and its extension to the Najaf airport and the
final phase. Mr. Igwemezie, who said he has been involved in
negotiation with Nigerian officials in the last 18 months to
construct several rail lines in the country, disclosed that
it took “only two months to get the Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) executed with Iraqi officials”.
Hinting
at his frustration to offer his services to Nigeria, Mr.
Igwemezie said, “as a Diaspora person, I kept coming back,
knocking, to help Nigeria. On the other hand I can’t knock
forever.” Problem of railway in Nigeria
Mr. Igwemezie, who wants to build a standard gauge railway
system from Lagos to Calabar, believes that Nigeria is a
place where railway service is going to be “profitable and
successful because of its size and population and because we
have a demography similar to that in Europe”. However, he
said, the bane of railway in Nigeria is that “we have
brought the wrong people to help us”.
Gains of railway
Mr. Igwemezie, who lost his father in a road accident,
believes that the railway line will take pressure off the
roads and rid them of the unnecessary delays and loss of
lives associated with road travel. He described the
Benin-Ore road as “a killing field”, and said with the
construction of the East-West corridor, there is no reason
why someone who lives in Benin cannot work in Lagos since it
will only take two hours on an express line to get to Lagos
from Benin.

Ekiti is a pdp governed place can you for once leave inferences on tribalism out of discussion.

I said the governments in Nigeria esp PDP states are run by thugs. The citizens of ekiti have been protesting as a form of opposition to their pdp governed state. The citizens of ekiti haven't been kidnapping, bombing or holding religous riots like the MANY around Nigeria. They have been doing peaceful demonstrations going straight to the problem, their state government. The people of the Ekiti aren't forming fake vigilante groups that are full of thugs, thieves, kidnappers, religous extremist, and forgotten war generals. I can see political change coming for the state because they recognise the problem and show opposition instead of remaining silent and blaming others for the faults of their own Government. The majority of citizens have shown maturity in handling their thuggish Government, others around should START SHOWING SOME TYPE OF POLITICAL CHANGE INSTEAD OF KIDNAPPING, BOMBING AND RELIGOUS RIOTS. This is a step in the right direction for the state, they recognise the problem and are now fighting it with protest instead of looking like animals.( Who bomb, kidnap and kill)

This is not about PDP. Yoruba people have existed before PDP came on board. In the West, thuggery reigns supreme, no doubt, even before 1960 (independence). So what has PDP got to do with this? In lagos, Bayo Ohu has just been assasinated. That is an AC state. This video is just one of the many evidences of thuggery in those parts. Plus the rampant political killings in all the states over there. Only an ostrich will live in denial about these facts.

According to the news-----------------------------“He was to proceed on official assignment the next morning to the southern part of the State when some uniformed men fully clad in Army camouflage numbering about ten (10) abducted himself and four other vehicles including a Toyota Camry, a Jeep, the vehicle of the SSG an End-of- Discussion and a Mercedez Benz that were forced on a convoy to drive and proceed straight to Delta State that night.

“It should also be noted that the SSG was a victim of circumstance and that the operation was not targeted at him or any agent of the State Government.

“He was only discovered to be an SSG along the way courtesy of his identification card. He was abducted and was headed straight to Delta State where he was until his release. He was received in Benin and returned to Kaduna by our security operatives notably members of the SSS hale and hearty.”

Soon after Alhaji Sani had read  the statement, Mr. Yayok was sandwiched into the Deputy Governor’s official jeep and both the SSG and Mr Yakowa drove to his house.

I have a few reasons for believing that Zik was selfish, I may be wrong but that's my opinion
1. Zik failed to work with Awo (I do not know what reasons he had). Both would have sat down and agreed on the terms, like say, you lead now, I lead after you and vice versa.
2. Zik failed to recognize biafra probably because he was not going to be in charge
3. Zik was alleged to have removed the then premier of the Eastern region
4. Zik accepted to be a ceremonial head to just about anybody (yes, Tafawa Balewa was just about anybody whose credentials were far below those of Zik). Why would Zik work with a nonetity (Balewa) instead of a real contemporary (Awo)?

Abia as ultimate investment destination
By CHINYEMIKE TORTI

Despite all the lamentations about the global economic melt down,Abia state,Nigeria manifests all the market fundamentals and indices that defy the gloomy projections latent elsewhere. Deep industry observers affirm that the indefatigable leadership of Dr Theodore Ahamefula Orji, has continuously provided well focused business-friendly, framework, structures and processes that have strengthened the private sector engagement in trade, investments and industry.

The revival of the Ceramics Industry and Golden Guinea Brewery all in Umuahia, and the establishment of the Abia Industrial International Market - a veritable hub in the global supply/value chain of production are all pointers to the fact that Abia state will in no distant time actualize itself into an investment and trading destination comparable to any in the world.

It is pertinent to highlight samplers of the natural resources and windows of opportunities that could be exploited by investors. Each of the 17 local government areas is endowed with mineral resources ranging from lead, zinc, copper, phosphate, gypsum, limestone, tar sands, iron ore, kaolin, igneous rocks, natural gas and oil. Agriculture has always occupied a pride of place as an economic back bone of the region from primordial times,as Abia lies mainly in the rain forest belt laden with various products such as wood, oil palm, cocoa, and a flourishing compendium of human and material resources.

Crude oil and gas are found in very large quantities in Obuzo,Owaza,Ngboko,Nkali,Odogkwa,Obeakpu,Isimiri and Imo river. Governor T.A Orji has entered into a joint venture agreement with a blue chip American oil exploration and refining conglomerate to set up a refinery in the state. There is plenty of room for key players willing to partner with the state in the upstream, mid stream and down stream sectors. It is noteworthy to mention the extensive gas reserves in Ohuru,Ukwa East local government which has tremendous potentials in the global market for liquefied natural gas, more especially to countries in the Pacific Basin-Japan,South Korea, and Taiwan who have little or no domestic production nor piped deliveries. Request for gas deliveries hover around 30 million tons per annum.
Arochukwu,Ohafia and Isiukwuato local government areas have huge deposits of limestones which have numerous industrial applications for the manufacture of cement, glass, water treatment, sugar refining, iron and steel, road construction, agricultural fertilizer, etc.

Again credits to Governor T.A Orji who has gone full blast to putting in place structures and ennablement to establishing a cement production factory in Arochukwu. Because vigorous industrilization thrusts, thrive with the active collaboration of local and foreign investors, the governor has put together a template garnished with incentives, tax breaks and mouth watering freebies for public-private participation.

Lodged in the bowels of Lokpaukwu,Umunneochi local government are vintage accumulation of lead, zinc and copper.Lead is used for the manufacture of car batteries and X-ray equipments, as it protects doctors and nurses working the machines from the rays.Still at Lokpaukwu is found gypsum – a raw material which is utilized in the production of cement,pharmaceuticals, Plaster of Paris {POP}

Amaeke in Umuahia and Arochukwu are bequeathed with extensive phosphate reservoirs. It is a treasure trove given the extent of proven deposits. Results of geological surveys affirm that enough supplies that could support over 100 years of industrial processing are emboweled there. By far the largest user of phosphate is in fertilisers, accounting for around 85 % of total consumption. Phosphorus is one of the three main plant nutrients, along with nitrogen and potassium, and is therefore included in inorganic fertilisers, for both agricultural crops and for gardens.
Phosphate is also provided to agricultural crops by spreading of municipal wastewater sludge for agricultural purposes or by using treated sewage to enhance growth of plants, producing biomass which can be used as an organic fertiliser.

Because of its high value as a nutrient, phosphate is widely used in the manufacturing of animal feed supplement. Food grade phosphates are used in many foods including dairy, meat, bakery products and soft drinks. It is also used as a main component of domestic dishwasher detergents, as well as in industrial detergents and specialist industrial cleaning product.

Kaolin is in superfluity at Ikwuano,Umuahia and the northern section of Isikwuato local government area. Kaolin, commonly referred to as china clay, is a clay that contains 10–95% of the mineral kaolinite and usually consists mainly of kaolinite (85–95%). In addition to kaolinite, kaolin usually contains quartz and mica and also, less frequently, feldspar, illite, montmorillonite, ilmenite, anastase, haematite, bauxite, zircon, rutile, kyanite, silliminate, graphite, attapulgite, and halloysite. Some clays used for purposes similar to those for which kaolin is used may contain substantial amounts of quartz.

Kaolin is a huge foreign exchange earner, and the supplies from Abia,Nigeria are included in recorded international trade statistics. Kaolin is an important industrial mineral that has an enormous variety of uses. It is utilized as a coating for paper and accounts for almost half of the total domestic consumption for roughly 80% of the exported kaolin to the world market. Other important uses of kaolin find expression as a filler in the production of paint, paper, rubber, fiberglass, mineral wool.It is used as a landfill liner, and as a catalyst in oil and gas refining. The usage historically associated with kaolin, manufacture of porcelain and chinaware.

In the Uturu,Lokpanta Lekwesi axis of God’s own state are large holdings of Igneous rocks. Because they are so hard, Igneous rocks make useful road building materials. When sheets of igneous rock are cut and polished, they are used inside buildings such as banks and offices, and are also used as gravestones. There are different types of igneous rock, therefore each type has its own uses, such as,granite used for long lasting monuments, for trim and decoration on buildings.
We have also the Pumice variety used quite often as a decorative landscape stone. If grounded to a powder, it is used as an abrasive in polish compounds and in lava soap.Crystalline igneous rocks can be used for jewelery and other similar things like countertops and building materials, landscaping .Export prospects to the European market are very strong.

Iron Ore is a veritable part of Isiukwuato and the proven reserves are included in the national trade registry. Iron Ore is the basic raw material used for the iron and steel making industry. Although iron has many specific uses viz; pipes, fittings, engine block, its main use is in the production of steel. Steel has several desirable properties. Making it the main structural metal in engineering and building projects and accounts for 90% of all metal used each year.

Time and space constraints will not permit me to do a full inventory of the commodity map of Abia, which is quite overwhelming but suffice to say that investors, local and foreign are invited by Governor T.A Orji to join the gold rush in Abia. The security situation is crackerjack, with zero tolerance for crimes and other socially unacceptable behaviour. Deviants have fled our domain and went elsewhere.

Yoruba community in Anambra State condemns kidnap of 21 Igbo traders
By Okey Maduforo, Correspondent, Awka

Yoruba community in Anambra State, under the umbrella of Egbe Omo Oduduwa has condemned the alleged kidnap of 21 Igbo traders in Owo, Ondo State, warning that it is a threat on the unity and peaceful coexistence of Nigeria as a nation.

The traders were allegedly kidnapped last Friday by three militant groups known as Palace Boys, Eyin Ogbe Boys and Iloro Youths, who demanded millions of naira as ransom before they would be released.

The militants had last year kidnapped 16 Igbo traders before the latest incident which led to a petition to the state Commissioner of Police Mr. Charles Dawodu, by Ndigbo in the community.

Speaking with Daily Independent in Awka, Anambra State, the chairman of **Egbe Omo Oduduwa** in the area Baba Tunde Adegbenjo, said the incident sends danger signals, adding that there is no state in the country that do not have militants.

"We want to condemn the action and attitude of these militants. We have militants all over the federation and they should consider the fact that if they continue with this other people will revenge and when they do, it becomes crisis everywhere.

"So we are not happy with the attitude of our people back home who gather themselves together and call themselves militants.

"The relation of any of those victims would look for people around to kidnap and those of us outside the Yoruba land or non-indigenes generally would become victims. If this type of thing continues we will have no option but to point to the residence of part of Yoruba land where these activities are taking place.

"The place where it happened is Owo community, so instead of allowing them to go and revenge on Ogwoko man or Akure or Ondo town, we will now point to the residence of the Owo people among us; so that they will go and pick them. This is because things like this spread like wild fire and we will not allow that to happen."

Adegbenjo further noted that security is very important in business interaction and such a thing can affect business between visitors and owners of the land.

"If an Igboman do not feel safe to do business in Yoruba land they will not go there and those of us in Igbo land will not be comfortable and these are the type of incident we experienced some time ago, when the Hausa people had problems with the Igbos and many lives were lost.

"We do not want this type of thing and this is how it starts. So we have to tell our people to stop all these nonsense they are doing. It will not discourage economic development and sound interpersonal relationship in the country."

He urged the Ondo State government to take action quickly to protect the interest of the Igbo in the area as Yoruba and other ethnic groups are being protected in the South East zone; adding that the people at the zone and their respective governments have been friendly and displayed the spirit of brotherhood among visitors and settlers in Igbo land.

5 Igbo Traders Abducted in Owo

Akure — Kidnapping which is fast becoming a way of life in the riverine oil producing areas of Ondo State, at the weekend, spread to the ancient city of Owo, as suspected armed youths abducted five Igbo traders.

The victims who were alleged to have been kidnapped on September 6 were released at the weekend after an undisclosed huge ransom was allegedly paid by the Owo Igbo community.

Those kidnapped included Messrs Okechukwu Okafor, Mike, Chigozie Nwanekezi and Monday Agboh.

Chairman of the Igbo community in Owo Mr Eze Chidozie, said several Igbos operating in the town had closed down business, adding that they will not open for business until government security agents assure them that their lives are safe.

The kidnappers allegedly consented to release of the abducted people after the intervention of Olowo of Owo, Oba Olateru Olagbegi, the Ojomoluda of Ijebu Owo, Oba Ojomo and some notable Owo chieftains.

The Igbo community in Owo, who however protested to the State police commissioner, Charles Dawodu, after the release of their kinsmen, narrated how the militant youths alleged to be palace boys, Eyin Ogbe boys and Iloro youths made life unbearable for the Igbo people living in Owo kingdom.

Chidozie told journalists in Akure that the militant youths had in the last one year, kidnapped 16 Igbo people and demanded huge sums of money which they paid.

He said: "They just enter our stores carry our goods and ask us to pay certain amount of money before they will release the items and any attempt to argue with them, they will just bundled that person and take him to their cell.

"Thereafter, they will be demanding for money ranging from N100, 000 and above and they will not release the victim until their demand is met."

The Igbo community also alleged that the ugly development had lead to the death of two traders, saying the militants have turned it to be their rights to be entering shops operated by the Igbo traders and threatening to kill or maim them if they (the Igbo traders) don't meet their demands.

The target of the militants is especially those that are into timber business, electronics, medicines and motor spare parts.

The intimidation and harassment he said have been reported to the Olowo and Ojomoluda but that the looting spree of Igbo shops with impunity have not been stopped.

The chairman appealed to the state police commissioner to rescue the Igbo from the hands of the militants who had turned kidnapping and looting of Igbo store to source of their daily income.

Chiedozie noted that such actions will strain the cordial relationship between the Owo people and the Igbo traders in the town. Adding that all Igbo people in Ondo State would today (Monday) storm Owo and join their kinsmen on a peace protest against the activities of the militants.

Confirming the incident, the state Mr. Dawodu said the victims of the alleged kidnapped never reported the cases to the police.

Daudu said the victims had been keeping the information to themselves, noting that now that it's getting out of their hands that they took the appropriate step of reporting to the police.

The police boss assured the people that the criminal incident would not recur, saying he had contacted the monarch of the ancient city and other prominent traditional chiefs to stamp out the heinous activities of the illegal militant youths

In the SE and SS, kidnapping is high
But it also occurs in SW and N

They seize you and extort money from your people, and in most cases you are alive to tell the story

In contrast, political killing is 100% in the SW; hardly do you read of any in SE, SS and N

Non of these are good, but if to make a choice which will you take?:

To be killed because of politics (SW) and your life ended
And to be kidapped and extorted (SS, SE, SW and N)? You still continue living?
