Urchin Sjeezy8 The kidnapping of people for ritual started in Yorubaland centuries back (GBOMOGBOMO). Kidnapping is kidnapping whether for money or for ritual killing. The one for killing is even worse. So kidnapping began in SW |
By Kingsley Ighomwenghian, Finance Editor There are indications of relative unease within the kitchen cabinet of the Lamido Sanusi -led Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over his closeness to Atedo Peterside, former Chief Executive and now Chairman of Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc. Such closeness, of which the CBN Governor himself accused his predecessor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, according to a top banking industry source, is not in line with the regulatory distance he promised to maintain when he assumed the position. Sanusi, who recently clocked 100 days in office, during which time he sacked the chief executives of five banks for recklessness and putting their institutions at risk among others, has also been accused of hobnobbing with Peterside. The disquiet, it is believed, arises from the fact that Peterside and Sanusi have continued to frolic at a time when the former's bank is among the three now going through the special bank audit ritual. A statement by Mohammed Abdullahi, a Deputy Director and spokesman of the CBN on Sunday noted that the audit team has "made significant progress on the remaining three banks and these are Citibank, Stanbic IBTC and Standard Chartered." With this in mind, the source noted that it is already as though, the audit of Stanbic IBTC, a member of South Africa's Standard Bank Group, is a mere formality, even as Peterside, one of the known critics of Soludo's consolidation agenda, has continued to sing the praise of Sanusi to high heavens. For instance, Peterside is believed to have hosted Sanusi to a private dinner soon after his appointment. This is aside chairing one of the sessions during the visit of the CBN Governor to London on a road show reportedly to explain recent happenings in the Nigerian banking industry to international investors and correspondent banks, many of whom have opened lines of credit with the nation's institutions. In his introduction of Sanusi at the London road show, for example, Peterside reportedly castigated and played the judge over his former colleagues, particularly the sacked five, just as he took a swipe at Soludo for playing the ostrich and praised Sanusi as the God -sent messiah. Hear him: "Whatever be the case, it was clear that they had misread the severity of the economic downturn and the collapse of asset and commodity prices (including the Nigerian stock market index and crude oil prices) and had lent large sums of money to people (including some insiders), who did not have a semblance of a business plan. Their loan losses were so significant that they became clearly illiquid and became increasingly reliant on government 'life -support' via continued reliance on CBN's expanded discount window. Weak risk management and lopsided corporate governance practices did not help either. "The Emperor had no clothes on, but CBN under Charles Soludo insisted that he was fully clothed and, indeed, threatened sanctions against any Bank CEO whose staff dared to make reference to this 'open secret' that the capital of a handful of Nigerian banks was almost completely eroded. They called this 'de -marketing' of the competition and even turned the clock back on greater financial disclosure and transparency. "Perhaps Soludo was seeking a second term for himself before seeking clothes for the naked Emperors? "Enter Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, a seasoned and knowledgeable economist and professional banker/risk manager with impeccable credentials, including, notably, integrity and a penchant for telling the truth at all times hence his bias towards full disclosure and transparency. "I make this declaration publicly and without any hesitation because Lamido is a man I have known for over 35 years. We are both economists and professional bankers and our paths have crossed repeatedly over the years. Lamido is intelligent, bold, courageous, independent, straightforward, honest and humble." The CBN London road show is, however, not the first of such failure to keep 'regulatory distance' by Sanusi, as the Stanbic IBTC Bank Chairman also hosted him, shortly after his appointment was approved by the Senate on June 4. |

Why I’m still in the struggle for Biafra – Uwazuruike • Says FG amnesty to Niger Delta is sham From NWABUEZE OKONKWO, Onitsha Tuesday, September 22, 2009 Leader of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike has restated his commitment to continue with the agitation for the actualization of the Biafran State, even if an Igbo man eventually becomes the president of Nigeria. Chief Ralph Uwazuruike advertisement He said there will be no going back on the struggle until Biafra is realized because according to him, Muslims and Christians cannot live together as one entity as a result of their diverse cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds. Uwazuruike who spoke at Amuda Isuochi in Umunneochi council area of Abia State during the burial ceremony of the late Mr. John Ejim Madu, father of MASSOB Director of Information, Uchenna Madu, cited injustice and inequality by Nigeria’s political leaders as his major reasons for the agitation. Uwazuruike who also described the Federal Government’s amnesty granted to the Niger/Delta militants as a sham, insisted that the best that could happen to Nigeria is to carve out Biafra, as applicable in other parts of the world where new nations had emerged after some series of agitation. He regretted that up till date, some of the MASSOB members, including Vincent Ekwuazi, Samuel Onwuka, Izuchukwu Nzom, Jude Asoanya, Arinze Igbani and others who were detained since 2005, along side Uchenna Madu were still in Nigeria’s prison custody. He insisted that even as an Igboman is presently the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Enugu Cargo Airport being upgraded to an international status, the River Niger undergoing dredging process and other development strides coming to Igbo land, he was more interest in having a state of Biafra because Nigerian leaders are not trustworthy. |

This is not quite true. I have at least 4-5 Ugandans as friends. We met in Europe while studying and we pallied thoroughly well; they liked Nigerian movies a lot. Some made copies of those movies and took them back home at the end of the program. It depends on whom you met. One even went home on Holidays and left his account book for me to help withdraw the next scholarship stipend and send to him back in Uganda. Such is the trust. The poster has to examine himself if he has been involved in fraudulent stuff against Ugandans or others, warranting the warning. Usually one single fraudulent Nigerian spoils the name of others. |

-------------------Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to the United States, Professor Tunde Adeniran, has withdrawn his acceptance of the appointment. This followed the public outcry that has greeted the alleged involvement of one of his children, Adedamola, in a rape case in the United States of America. Adeniran, who was minister of education under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, had served as Nigeria's envoy to Germany. He told THISDAY last night that he withdrew from his appointment in the national interest. “I decided to put the nation first in this matter.” The former minister has also formally tendered his letter of withdrawal from his ambassadorial posting to President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. A statement by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Joe Keshi, obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, said Adeniran’s withdrawal was because of family reasons. The statement reads: ''The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to announce that Professor Tunde Adeniran has withdrawn his appointment as the Ambassador-Designate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the United States of America. “In his withdrawal letter submitted to President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, through the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, said Adeniran attributed his action to personal and family reasons. “He thanked the President for the appointment, lauded the Commander-in-Chief’s 7-point agenda and pledged his commitment and loyalty to the administration’s national transformation drive.” http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=154953 |
US has the right to reject him, says Olanipekun (SAN) Cover Stories Sep 19, 2009 By Okey Ndiribe (Assist. Political Editor), Ise-Oluwa Igeand Dapo Akinrefon He is a one-time President of the Nigerian Bar Association and private counsel to President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. He spoke exclusively with Vanguard on the rejection of Prof Adeniran by the Government of the United States of America (USA) as ambassardor to Nigeria. I know Prof Tunde Adeniran. He is an outstanding and very cerebral academic. He is also an established and well acclaimed administrator. There is no doubt that he is able, capable and suited to be the Nigerian ambassador anywhere in the world particularly the United States of America. Now that he has been rejected by the United States of America on the grounds that his son was allegedly on a gang that raped an American citizen, the question that arises is: Can America reject him as unfit to be the ambassardor of Nigeria in the US? Let me answer that question by saying that there is no vicarious liability in criminal law. In other words, whatever offence a father commits cannot be visited on the son and vice versa. It is a universally accepted cannon of law. It is not restricted to Nigeria. It is also applicable in the United States of America. That is the law. But when it comes to international diplomacy, the American government or the home country has a lot of latitudes to look into the pedigree, the background, the person, even the family of the person who is being donated to them as an ambassador. It is within their latitude. Again, we also have to consider the norms in America. America is a country that places so much value on morals. America is a country where nobody can just wake up and assert himself or present himself as a legislator, a governor or as a president. This is also the case in Great Britain. In those countries, they have the innermost respect for anybody who wants to occupy any high office. Therefore, not just anybody can aspire to high offices. Recall what happened during the last election in the United States to the running mate to the Republican candidate, Mrs Sarah simply because the daughter has some problem. You will recall that the problem the daughter had was that her teenage daughter was pregnant. To us in this clime, it is a non-issue but to them, there, it is a big issue. The Americans rose up against Mrs Sarah over the issue and they said: look, you called yourself a Christian, a Pentecostal Christian, for that matter, and this kind of thing happened. They asked her if she was a fit and proper person to occupy the exalted seat of the Vice President of the United States of America, given her inability to exercise firm control on her daughter? Like I said earlier, to us, in Nigeria, it will be a non-issue. So, what I have just done now was basically to juxtapose this example with what they had done. Let me say at this juncture that I am not pronouncing the son of Prof Tunde Adeniran guilty of whatever offence they claimed he had committed. In fact, I don’t know that he committed any offence. Im just hearing from you now. But I am saying that if that is their reason, I stand to say that they have a reason to give a reason for rejecting him. And having given that reason, I still believe that Nigeria can still make a representation. But that will be after the Government of Nigeria must have asked and heard from Prof Tunde Adeniran on whether the said allegation ever existed and whether his son was really involved and if yes, under what circumstance was he involved. I believe that if he has a persuasive excuse, the Federal Government can still make a representation to change the position of the US Gopvernment. Let me reiterate however that under international treaty and law, when you are sending somebody to another country as an ambassador, the municipal law and nuances including the norms and ethos as well as the ethics of that country will have to apply before acceptance. That is just the position. Professors disagree There have been mixed reactions from Nigerians over last Thursday’s rejection of Prof. Tunde Adeniran as the nation’s ambassadorial nominee to the United States of America. In his own reaction to the development, Akin Oyebode, a professor of international law described the development as unfortunate. Said he: “ It is a rather unfortunate development because Prof. Tunde Adeniran is a nice fellow. He has the requisite credentials both academic and political. He is a Professor of political science and he has a Ph.D degree from the University of Columbia. There couldn’t have been a better choice. But I think that one of his children’s involvement in a case of rape in the United States may have worked against him.” He continued: “ I suspect that incident might have influenced the Americans to deny him what is called agreman in international law. The agreman principle which falls under the Geneva Convention stipulates that it is the prerogative of every host country to accept or refuse to accept an ambassadorial nominee for confirmation. So what the Americans have done is to deny Prof. Adeniran agreman. Under international law the Americans don’t need to tell us why they have denied an ambassadorial nominee agreman.” Prof Oyebode further described the development as another slap on the face of the President Umar Yar’Adua administration “ for not doing its home work on one occasion too many.” “ Apart from the latest incident, Nigeria has lost almost all its nominees for international offices around the world. Nigeria’s profile internationally has nose-dived” he said. He further stated that the only option left for the Federal Government is to go back to the drawing board and try to get somebody the Americans would not deny agreman. In his own reaction Prof. Itse Sagay described the treatment meted to Ambassador Adeniran by the United States government as “unreasonable”. Said he: “I think what they did is unreasonable. If the child was charged for rape, why should they take it on the father? I think it’s unreasonable. Nigeria should protest very strongly.” In addition, the legal luminary argued that the United States of America “have no reason because the son and father are two legal entities. The father has no control over the son who has reached a certain age. The Americans are showing us contempt and I think we should protest very strongly in order for them to show us more respect.” |

Sorry? So you are willing to lose your job because of what your son did? Explain the logic. This is not a regular job but a political appointment. They are different than each other |
Sagamite:Pardon me if he was cleared already before the incidence. But after the incidence his clearance should have been revoked immediately. Its that simple. His incompetence is another story. We need to be reminded of what he did with the education ministry when he held sway. Much like the current incompetent buffoon minister |
Sagamite:Nigeria needed not to have waited for USA to tell us the right thing. Adeniran had no business been cleared by the senate with such a case hanging over the son's head. Nigerian rulers are incompetent and conniving bastards. |
http://saharareporters.com/index.php, news&Itemid=18 The Adenirans-Dammy and Prof. Tunde Prof. Adeniran, who has made history by becoming the first Nigerian to be refused ambassadorial nomination by the United States, is now confronted by a challenge to his fatherhood of three boys by a man who claims to be the real father of the boys and has sent his claim to US authorities. The children are Damilola, Tosin and Laolu. As reported by Saharareporters recently, Damilola is the young Adeniran currently accused of rape by the police in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. M.O Oluwamukomi has accused Prof. Adeniran of “stealing his children” and relocating them to the US and changing their last names to his own. His letter sent to the US claims that “Adedamola Adeniran is not a biological son of Prof. Tunde Adeniran, rather, Dammy (as we know him in Nigeria) and his two other brothers: Oluwatosin and Olaoluwa are the sons of Dr. M.O Oluwamukomi, a lecturer in the Dept. of Food Science and Technology, Federal University of Tech., Akure, Ondo State.” __________________

U.S. Rejects Adeniran As Nigeria's Ambassador *Cites Son's Rape Case In America By Rafiu Ajakaye Foreign Editor, Lagos Washington has rejected the appointment of Tunde Adeniran as Nigeria's Ambassador to the United States, nearly five weeks after his son, Adedamola, was arrested in Baltimore for gang rape. News of the rejection broke on Thursday, two months after U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, visited Abuja and pledged a tough stance against the inconsistencies of Aso Rock functionaries. Adedamola was arrested last month alongside two other Nigerians for the offence highly loathed in civilised societies, including the U.S, where sexual immorality costs Americans their political aspirations. The arrest was reported on August 25. Neither Adeniran nor Foreign Ministry officials could be reached for comment on Thursday. He was appointed to replace Oluwole Olurotimi, whose racial row with Foreign Minister, Ojo Maduekwe, ended his sojourn in the U.S. It was learnt on Thursday night that Washington has communicated its decision to Abuja. Aso Rock sources said the decision puts the government in a quandary, and efforts are being made to see if the U.S. Government could be persuaded to rescind it. The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria neither confirmed nor denied the rejection story. But what is known is that police arrested Adedamola, 20, resident in Halethorpe, and others and charged them with gang raping three women in separate incidents that took place in the parking lot of Seton Keough High School in Southwest Baltimore. The attacks occurred two weeks apart and shared similar characteristics. Detectives determined the attackers' identities after the most recent victim remembered the tag number on the vehicle of one of the suspects. Charged alongside Adedamola are Anthony Oisediamen Edoror Jr., 19, and Opeyemi Adigun, 20, both of Gwynn Oak. Police responded at 6:45 a.m. on July 27 to Mercy Hospital, where two girls said they had been raped by three unknown males, according to charging documents posted online. The girls narrated that they were walking on Fayette Street downtown when they were approached by two men. After a conversation, the men agreed to give them a ride. But the ride quickly turned frightening, according to court records. The driver got onto Interstate 95 South, and when one of the girls told the driver he was going the wrong way and asked to be let out, the man in the passenger seat told her to be quiet. He brandished a hunting-style knife and threatened to "stab her up." The men drove them to the 1200 block of S. Caton Avenue and parked in the rear of Seton Keough High, a private, all-girls Catholic school, where a second car pulled up. One of the girls tried to run away but was caught by the hair and thrown to the ground. The men then took turns raping them over the course of about an hour, according to charging documents. Afterward, the men took one girl's shorts and both girls' purses, shoes, and cell phones, and left. The victims flagged down a driver, who called police. Police received another report of a rape on August 8 that shared the same characteristics of the first incident. The victim in that case, a 26-year-old woman, said she was leaving The Block and asked for a ride home from two men she had spoken with earlier. She was picked up at North Calvert and East Fayette Streets and said the men spoke in an African dialect to each other as they drove her to Southwest Baltimore. She was taken to an area behind the high school, where she was dragged onto a field and raped, according to court records. She collected two of the men's condoms and took down a tag number, which police traced to Edoror. The police report indicates that at least part of the incident was captured on the school's surveillance cameras. Edoror, who was working at a Home Depot in Baltimore County when he was taken into custody, gave a full confession and identified his accomplices as Adigun and Adedamola. He said in the August 8 incident, the men were looking for a prostitute to have sex with without paying and that the victim willingly went with them to have sex for money. But he also acknowledged that they raped her after refusing to pay her. After the suspects' identities were established, the women picked all three men out of photo arrays. The suspects were arrested on August 13 and have been ordered held without bond. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for September 15. According to electronic court records, only Adedamola has a prior criminal record. He was charged in Howard County with car theft, and in Baltimore County with identity theft and fraud. Both charges were thrown out by prosecutors. Adeniran, a native of Ekiti State, was Nigeria's Ambassador to Germany under former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He has a diplomatic experience spanning decades, including membership of the Nigerian delegation to the 40th Session of the United Nations in 1985. He was Education Minister between 1999 and 2001. |
What is the evidence that: 1. The photo was taken after Gani's death (never mind the seemingly superimposed Gani potrait) 2. That it was not doctored (Ribadu looks like a HIV victim here)? The so-called Nadeco route through which he allegedly came is now well known. Ribadu, if ever he was close to Nigeria, must have flown to the neighbouring country before walking into Nigeria Onovo should ask for the plane manifests for all the planes that flew into the country boardering the Nadeco route with a period of one month Or they should work with the UK police to prove if Ribadu did leave the UK within the last one month en route any West African country It is not Rocket Science to figure that Ribadu never set foot in Nigeria; he is not that elusive talk less of being a magician. |
Professor Laz Ekwueme, 'Eze Ijikala II - Ozioko' Igwe Oko, Anambra State, is a man of many parts. He is an actor, choir conductor, music composer, a teacher and traditional ruler of his community. The accomplished statesman recently spoke with some journalists in Lagos where he talked about his early days and how he came about his music career. TEMITOPE DAVID-ADEGBOYE was at the session. Excerpts: As an Igwe, does your elder brother, former vice president, Alex Ekwueme, prostrate to you? My neice got married recently and somebody asked me if my brother would stand up when I arrived. I expalined this way. He would have been the Igwe but he felt, and I agree with him, that he would be more useful to the town not being the Igwe. There was no need for him to be tied down. Moreover, as at the time my uncle died, he was still in politics vying for the presidency of Nigeria. Because he couldnt be the Igwe, the town decided that they would accept whoever he nominated. It fell on me. I wasn't prepared for it, but if I didn't accept it, the throne would have left my family. But the constitution has been amended now. The Igweship would be rotated from now on. You see, in Oko, Anambra State, everybody stands up when the Igwe comes, but when the Ide comes (and he is my brother), everybody, including the Igwe, stands up for him. http://www.independentngonline.com/life/lead/article01 |
