komekn: Athleticism is different from Physicality.
Physicality in the context of football which is still a contact sport, is about strength, power, the ability to bully your opponent.
Athleticism makes reference to speed, pace , endurance and stamina as well as agility, which include in how high you can jump.
In terms of Brute strength Awoniyi is stronger however in terms of Aggression and fearlessness it's Victor O. this is a dangerous attribute he possesses, but its a two edged sword.
Which is better is open to never ending debate.
They are different players with different be attributesvsnd advantages. I would say Awoniyi is a late developer and he is growing in confidence, l believe and hope there is much more to come.
Athleticism is physicality because it can be developed through physical activity, take for instance speed, strength, stamina, power etc all these can be developed via physical training.
Athleticism is physicality and in these attributes mentioned inter alia Osimhen is more physical.
I don't know why you brought in aggression. Aggression is not even a physical quality. It is mental because it involves the feelings. We are talking about physicality.
In the context of football, aggression is desirable, and Osimhen is not more aggressive than Taiwo. Osimhen is developing more discipline to handle his aggression.
TheSuperNerd: It's not a smuggle if you put on your tactical/analytical cap. If you critically analyse the complimentary strengths of the Ndidi-Nwakali-Aribo combo, you will find no better balanced MF trio option in our ranks right now.
Nwakali came in for 10mins. Just 10 mins. And we almost buried that game for good when he orchestrated that sweet counter transition with Ejuke. If not for Ejuke's selfishness, we would have walked away with a clean 2-0 victory. No caps.
So it's not a smuggle. It is trying to see us open up more channels of attack that will yield an even more Commanding result.
Also, Nwakali offers passing recycling and control in the middle in terms of conduction and dictation with passes. Long or short. We would not have been out-passed by Egypt with that MF trio. It hasn't been tried but from a tactical POV, I know it's the truth.
We will also benefit from Nwakali's long distance volleys of the ball especially if Sudan packs their 18 yard box.
Kog45: Oga,forgiveness just relax and dey look oh.....my third eyes dey tell me sometin and if it's true then dis country no go better.
I was just about to reply the post where you asked me to give my preferred line up, i decided to scroll down to read some more posts before replying, and then i saw this.
TheSuperNerd: The Midfield Talk: Partey and Ndidi at Afcon2021
I saw a post talking about Ndidi and Partey in the aftermath of yesterday's game and I felt it is a good opportunity to show us something about both so far in this tournament.
Against Gabon yesterday, Thomas Partey had an assist, yes, thanks especially to Dede Ayew's fine turn and shot execution but he (partey) executed 25 accurate passes. 14 in his own defensive half and only 11 in or to the opposition half/offensive half.
Against Morocco, it was much worse for Partey with 16 accurate passes out of 25 attempted passes. 10 of which came in his own defensive half and only 6 in the opposition half.
In Comparison, Ndidi had 46 accurate passes, 34 in or to opposition half and only 12 in own half. vs Egypt. This shows Ndidi was key to keeping things moving in the opposition half. He even laid on more passes than Aribo in the opposition half. Aribo had 11 passes in opposition half and 10 in own half.
And I think we should know partly why. Thing is, Aribo had more grounds to cover switching from attacking mode, in offensive transitions to create an attack overload in opposition box, to defensive mode in defensive transitions to help out in the high intensity press and markings. Ndidi only had to sit, roam a bit and read the game from a deeper role.
I saw this and many more stats references that day but didn't think to bring it up yet. So you see, Ndidi wasn't uncomfortable with the ball as a few thought in the Post-Egypt analyses.
Ndidi is just not appreciated enough. His passing game has improved as I pointed out over a year ago and yes he is no Kroos or Pirlo. He is no deeplying Playmaker but he is now above decent in the passing game in addition to his elite ball winning, game Reading and defensive actions skills.
Appreciate Ndidi More.
Up next, The Jediane Falcons of Sudan. A side we hold a +13 Goals Difference advantage over in History. 8 wins, 4 draws, 2 losses. 26 goals for, 13 against.
Immediately after the match, i gave Ndidi my MOTM, dude was massive.
jihday: Rumor says we may likely see the same starting 11 and if anything will change it will be Onyekuru for Chukwueze
Judging by Chukwueze's typical game standard and rating, he had a very poor game. Out of just 31 touches of the ball, he made 4 key passes, had only 1 successful cross out of 5 attempts, completed only 1 dribble out of 3 attempts. He completed 13 passes out 16 attempts, placing his passing accuracy at 81%.
Chukwueze had a very poor game, but with just 72 minutes on the pitch, dude made 4 key passes.
Going by this stats Chukwueze wasn't even the forward with the poorest stat going forward. We are not defending against Sudan. We might be playing against a team that might likely sit deep. We need forwards who can create scoring chances. Eguavoen should find a way to play Chukwueze, Iwobi and Nwakali together.
jihday: Simon; "The game (Vs Egypt) is one of my best in two years. Every coach have their mentality & impact. The previous coach, I play to his instructions. With the new coach, he gave us freedom & allow us to bring our style of play at club side."
This is how he expresses his gratitude to a coach that kept faith in him despite his crosses to Chinhuahua.
This is how he makes excuses for his shambolic shows, as if anything has improved in his performances: A handful of pagan crosses. 0 key passes, 0 assists. 0 shots on target.
What we have seen of him is his trademark defending which is commendable for a forward and his speedy runs which makes good highlights of his wing plays. So what exactly has changed.
In the game against Egypt, our forward line was the weakest, maybe because of our strategy to defend against Salah. We can do more with the personnel we have.
There are players that should have no business sitting on the bench. Let me see the players Eguavoen will field tomorrow.
My favourite name for Moses Simon is Daddy. i just modified this post with this addendum to make it clear how much i love the man Moses Simon, but Moses Simon will be happier if we are playing to our full potential.
komekn: I always say this statistics are indicative not conclusive.
Taiwo Awoniyi played an outstanding game ,he worked tirelessly he SEIZED OPPORTUNITY he pressed non stop and he fought relentlessly, he made the entire defensive line up very shaky be first 15 minutes Egypt be was lost couldn't get any Rythm . And a big part was the bullying and physicality he brought to the game.
A lot of long balls went to him and he fought for everything hold up play was proficient not necessarily excellent but very good. You don't need 45 minutes to make a claim just 15 minutes to lay your marker down and set the tempo.
He is the young pretender to Ighalo's crown, if he continues, along side Victor O.
Many years ago Lukaku was termed the young pretender to Drogb's crown, today he is no longer the pretender but the owner.
The stats don't tell the full story.
Taiwo replaced Osimhen perfectly is what i am debating against. And then i decided to unleash his poor stats on the day.
If you think it is a berating on Taiwo quality, then that is quite your conjecture. Scoring 12 goals for his club is a proof of quality.
But even in the midst of his quality, he's yet to become the player Osimhen is.
Kog45: Sir Meli, just say you don't rate Awoniyi Taiwo, simple and we move on....mind you I have players I don't rate in GWG and Ekong is one but the guy did very well against Egypt.
Sadiq better than Taiwo against Egypt said it all....Sadiq that Eguavoen needed to visit his room to talk to him that he wasn't impressed with his performance.
Good the legend like Asamoah Gyan is rating Nigeria as team to beat in this Afcon based on our Egypt match.
Baba, just calm down and let see how this team unfolds as tournament progress.
Why will i not rate a player who has 12 goals overall for his club. All that i am saying is that Osimhen is more handful and that Sadiq impressed me more with glimpses of his skills.
Eguavoen may have expected more from Sadiq (Sadiw, I think i like this variant after that typo error coming a moniker in here), but that is not the point the point is that i will not wait for eguavoen to rate a player, before giving my rating.
Victor was given a run of games before he started doing well
But someone here want awoniyi to score hatrick within 5 minutes against Egypt
We should not even deceive ourselves ,as it stands the quality of our strikers aren’t far from each other ,it’s not as if one is suarez and the other one is Shane long
The quality in each of our strikers are quite distant from one another. Just like Safarigirl has said, Taiwo is Taiwo.. Taiwo is not Osimhen. Let's be content with what we have and hope for the best
andrewbaba44: Osimhen is no lewandowski ,suarez benzema and co,even giroud replaced benzema well for France
You need to calm down with this osimhen a not replaceable abeg
Kudos to him for doing well for us but you need to stop this osimhen is not replaceable
How many strikers have gotten a run of games ?
Osimhen is replaceable if others are given the chance ,even with taiwo good game you are even talking down of him ,just imagine you being the coach incharge
If the coaches dropped osimhen after his first few games you will tell me if he would have come good , hope you know he didn’t score for his first 6 eagles game ?
Presenting his stats and stating my predilection for Sadiq is now talking down on Taiwo. He gave us his best did not he?
TFLASHOGEE: bro na just 2019 o no be 1920 osigoal didn't do nothing in that afcon and it was like Rorh was even forced to give him game time and taiwo gave his best to putting a shift for us at Osimhen's absent and mind you they can never have same style or quality but both are unique in thier own ways
I was impressed in that cameo appearance of his.
I didn't say that Taiwo didn't give his best. We saw his best, and he can still best his best.
You are very right by saying that they can never have the same style or quality, and thank you for saying that.
Some people are yet to face the reality in the fact that Osimhen is not replaceable as things stand.
You go worse pass Lagerback as coach if Sadiq impressed you more than Taiwo
Osimhen is not in AFCON, Taiwo does not need to be an Osimhen, Taiwo is Taiwo. Taiwo is who we have and Taiwo is who we will have for the duration of this tournament. Enjoy Taiwo, if you are looking for Osimhen, follow up with Napoli updates, na there he go dey.
Sadiq impressed me more than Taiwo. Oh how i love him.
Yes, Taiwo is Taiwo let's enjoy what we have. It all started with my reply to a post that said "Taiwo replaced Osimhen perfectly"
andrewbaba44: You lie concerning osimhen afcon debut abeg ,don’t come here and sugarcoat things from osimhen afcon debut
More impressed with sadiq than with taiwo at the Egypt game ?
If you don’t fancy taiwo it’s fine than this agenda ,sadiq didn’t even come close to taiwo at the Egypt game
I am not comparing taiwo with osimhen but it took osimhen games to even score ,but here you are not impressed by taiwo who had a good game but impressed by sadiq ,smh
Nothing was special about osimhen afcon debut Oga ,he played the 3rd place game against Tunisia or so ,you can’t come here and lie to make a point
I stopped taking you serious when you said you where more impressed with sadiq than Awoniyi against Egypt ,Na agenda be this your talk abeg
In your eyes there was nothing special about his debut. Osimhen's movements and runs, in and around the box is one of the reasons he is rated.
Sadiq's control of the ball and pass to Ejuke was it for me. It was enough to ascertain what he will do when given a full debut. I look forward to it.
andrewbaba44: It took osimhen games to even get his first goal and to replace ighalo
You cannot say taiwo awoniyi is yet to become the player after just 1 start of quality minutes
Taiwo played and did well ,but you want sadiq umar to come in .
I don't need multiple games to ascertain a player's competence. On Osimhen's AFCON debut even with the cameo appearance, a lot can be deduced from his style of play and the promise it held.
I believe in growth, but Taiwo is yet to become the player Osimhen is.
I was more impressed with Sadiq than i was with Taiwo.
Kog45: Sir,against Egypt Awoniyi replaced Osimehn perfectly and too early to judge,so let's wait and see him and Sadiq more in our subsequent matches.
Taiwo Awoniyi and Sadiq Umar were 5th and 6th rated CF behind Victor Osimehn,Odion Ighalo,Onuachu,Moffi under Rohr and for the duo to shake off that pressure against Egypt is a plus.
We beat 7 times Afcon winner with Mo Sallah and prior to that match the odds favor Egypt....none here can say it that we are beating Egypt but now Ighalo and Osimehn would have done more just like Sallah did more with Egypt.
Kudos to Eguavoen for the confidence.
Cheif, You mean Taiwo replaced Osimhen perfectly?
Awoniyi won only 1 ground duel out of 8. 1 aerial duel out of 8. 0 dribbles. 0 key passes.
In which area of play was he a perfect replacement.
I will commend Awoniyi's movements and pressing, but he is still not on Osimhen's level. Osimhen owns the physicality (speed, strength and stamina) and the tactics (intelligence). If you can remember his somehow diagonal press against Cape Verde. He reads his opponents well
If you didn't use the word perfect, i would have ignored.
MetalJigsaw: Two Things That Could Have Happened If Victor Osimhen Was In The Game Against Egypt. News Hub Creator
It's really painful that Victor Osimhen couldn't play at this tournament. Do you think Taiwo Awoniyi would possibly replace Victor Osimhen as expected? Let's have your thoughts on this article in the comments' section.
Taiwo Awoniyi is yet to become the player that can replace Victor Osimhen.
I will like to see what the pairing of Sadiq Umar and Iheanacho can produce. These guys are great at creating scoring chances.
TheSuperNerd: A Must Watch: Paul Ebere Onuachu, Goals Lord and King of Belgium on Teamwork
Watch Onuachu thanking his teammates for his latest "Golden Shoe/Best Player in Belgium for 2021" award.
It almost brought tears to my eyes. Probably the most beautiful video on appreciating teamwork you will watch today. Only 2 mins and 41 secs of your time.
do4luv14: Good beautiful morning ladies and gentlemen,
So I woke up this sweet morning to see a msg on my phone from GTB wishing me happy birthday, ,funny enough they can't credit my Aza for my birthday gift
Thank you Lord it's all by your mercies that I made it,
Guys am +1 Today happy birthday to me Hurrrrryyyyyy,!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy birthday do4luv14, the bests keeps happening to you.
I just Dey catch cruise boss but to be honest she no fine cus I never see fine girl wey be soccer fan
Your turn na next week
There is always a first time. Now you have seen a very beautiful girl with hot brains that is a soccer fan.
Stop clinging to your stereotypes, i mean the stereotypes you made by yourself. Actually, i have been admired by beautiful girls who are soccer lovers.
TheSuperNerd: I have the Beinsports USA 10mins.32secs video highlights of the game right here and I've seen it...all of it...everything over and over.
He had passing options in that sequence of play. A little delay, a little pause...and he could have easily picked out Iwobi or Umar.
And let's not talk "what ifs". He didn't pass. Neither did he score.
Look, Meliforme... this is not a put-down of Ejuke who I strongly rate as one of the most game-changing wingers in African football today. Arguably the best Winger in Russia currently too.
This is only a pointer on something I know he can improve upon: His decision making in certain situations of play.
He has to balance out when to go it alone and when to seek out a teammate. He will learn, Meliforme. I trust he will but he was damn frustrating on Tuesday. That's the truth.
TheLoneCitizen: So what has this useless experiment yielded?
1. Andrew (bro, no vex) who termed people who supported Donald Trump’s controversial tweets as “ass-lickers” did exactly the same thing he condemned.
Although he claimed to “stand by Osimhen” he failed to do this in both words and deeds.
While Osimhen was immature in his response, Andrew showed the exact opposite.
2. Safarigirl who said a true man is one who responds aggressively to insult very likely contradicts herself.
If I wish upon her a child that becomes aggressive, and doesn’t remain composed and mature, when he/she is insulted, she is 100 percent going to reject it.
If you accept it Safari, just quote this post with an amen and let the good God do his thing.
3. With all respect, this thread is full of the superficial. Some weeks ago, TheSuperNerd blasted me for criticising players I claim to like. He said and I quote:
“And I know you rate the lad (Ejuke) but at times it is as if you feel you have to drop one or two sour points on lads you rate so as to seem unbiased towards them.”
More recently Subzero047 was eager to differentiate his “love for Aribo and Balogun” with my toxic relationship with Onyekuru.
He said and I quote:
“I report when they do well but the guy has a love-hate relationship with Onyekuru.”
Criticizing a player you love doesn’t necessarily mean you hate them, it just means you like them so much that you want to see them improve.
If you like Osimhen but criticize his actions, this doesn’t take anything from your affection, it just shows you want to correct the wrong in him.
Nobody on this thread has hyped Iwobi, Onyekuru and Dessers more than I on this thread, but nobody has criticised them more than I have.
In fact, in Onyekuru’s first game for Olympiacos where he scored his only goal, I still criticised his poor performance.
And today we see the result, because he has failed to work on his deficiencies, he has so far underwhelmed in Greece.
So criticism is constructive in nature, made to uplift someone and doesn’t take away your liking for them.
4. A lot of people will suggest that aggression is what works for Osimhen but this is a lie.
Pogba told the media a while back that Kante is one of the most driven players he has ever seen and that the Frenchman hates to lose.
And we see this in the way he aggressively makes tackles.
But off-the-pitch, he is the darling of football including opponents.
Bottom line: Osimhen’s aggression is very welcomed on the pitch, but off the pitch, especially as a public figure in this particular industry (not hip-hop), his best behaviour is expected.
At the italicised, are you saying this thread is full of pretenders. Is that what you meant by using the word superficial.
TheSuperNerd: I like the lad and rate him but everything you have pointed out is true.
I mean, it was damn frustrating. The most annoying was the one he squandered after being neatly put through by Nwakali who took his time to carefully combine with him and orchestrate that beautiful counter attacking transition... Oya Ejuke, thanks for driving forward with your insane speed to the box... now fool the keeper and square it to any of Iwobi and Sadiq... Ejuke said Mbanu!! I MUST SCORE MY FIRST SE GOAL! I never score since my debut!
He needs to learn team work comes before Personal Glory Hunting. A real talent he is but he won't go far with such selfish on-field attitude. This is why I like Simon despite some bad times... Baba still works for the team. It's always Team first for Simon.
Anyways, I believe Ejuke will learn. He will come good. He still has time.
There was no way he could have passed the ball. Take a look at Basco's video again.
I am not saying it is possible or not, i am just weighing on probables. What if Iwobi and Sadiq benefits from a rebound or deflection of his shot.
Again some people will as usual say that he is fond of flair and dribbles, had it been he did exactly what you suggested and maybe the pass was cleared or deflected by the defenders who have already closed down on him.
Anyways, as long as he did not score, thirty million blames on him.
Ejuke, one of the most intelligent forwards in the fold.
nelszx: Me I'm not making any guess (es), just like how I predicted Italy was going to win the Euros before it started, this very AFCON will be contested between Nigeria and Cameroon.
That's the final game of this competition and we'll beat Cameroon.
