A 34-year-old Zimbabwean woman, Maria Chigwadara died after a home delivery of triplets went wrong. The babies, all girls, are still admitted at Gweru Provincial Hospital, after their birth and the death of their mother last month.
The triplets' father, Mr Aleck Ncube Muza, a 68-year-old unemployed villager from Musadzi Village in Gokwe-embudziya said he has no means look after them and five other children.
The couple, who were members of an apostolic sect did not know that she was carrying triplets as she never went to hospital for antenatal care until she gave birth to one of the girls, only to be rushed to hospital due to complications, but it was too late to save her life.
Ms Chigwadara died on the night of June 8 and medical experts yesterday said her death could have been avoided if she had gone through antenatal care.
Mr Muza on Monday , sent a plea for help to Zimbabweans to assist him with food and clothes for the triplets.
The babies, he said, were still admitted to Gweru Provincial Hospital’s special baby’s ward a month after their birth because he has no means to look after them.
He told the Chronicle that there were complications at birth and his wife had to endure a five-hour drive from Gokwe’s Mutora District Hospital to Gweru Provincial Hospital where she died upon admission due to severe loss of blood.

“On June 7 my wife gave birth to one of the babies and we realised that she had more babies and was bleeding profusely before we took her to hospital. She then gave birth to two more children through an operation after which they said she needed to be transferred to Gweru because the bleeding was continuing,” he said.
“On June 8 she then endured a five-hour drive from Mutora District Hospital to Gweru Provincial Hospital where she died on admission. They said she lost a lot of blood.”
Asked who had assisted with the botched-up home delivery, Mr Muza could not answer.
Mr Muza said he is grateful for the three children, but appealed for donations in cash or kind to look after them. He said he has no fixed income and had five other children, some of school going age, he also needed to take care of.

Bayern Munich have signed Real Madrid forward James Rodriguez on a two-year loan deal with the option to buy.

The 25-year-old, who signed a six-year contract at Real when he joined from Monaco for £71m in July 2014, made just 22 appearances in La Liga last season.

He had been linked with a summer move to both Premier League champions Chelsea as well as Manchester United.

“Signing James Rodríguez was our coach Carlo Ancelotti’s biggest wish,” said Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Most students have been in a classroom setting where they wished they hadn’t asked a question or added to the discussion. Maybe the answer was obvious or the question seemed unrelated – “out in left field,” so to speak. It takes strength to raise your hand in class and ask questions. More often than not, other students have similar questions. What about those students who don’t ask questions in class? How or are they impacted if they do not ask questions? First, let’s examine reasons why students don’t ask questions in class, then discuss the consequences of not asking questions, and finally what teachers can do to encourage students to ask questions.


Reasons some students do not ask questions in class
Shyness: One of the most obvious reasons a student may not volunteer to raise his or her hand with a question is because the person is shy. Shyness can be bitterly difficult for many students. One student described the being shy at school this way : “I think if I had not been painfully shy…then I would have done a lot better in school. I would have had a clear, open mind to understand things better, and I would have had the courage to participate more and ask questions.”..


Fear of peers: Other students are self-conscious and worry about what their peers will think if they ask questions of the teacher. Peer friendships and fitting in is especially important as students enter teenage years.

Fear of appearing dumb: No one wants to look foolish. Often times the academic material appears unfamiliar; although it has been previously taught, it can suddenly resemble a foreign language. So, the student fears he or she will appear unintelligent or as if he or she wasn’t paying attention.


Difficulty forming the question: Other times a student may struggle to formulate the question. Students in the process of learning English may be hesitant and unclear about how to structure the sentence grammatically. Students who participate in speech therapy may find it challenging to form the words properly.


Consequences

Gaps in knowledge: The most obvious consequence of students failing to speak up and ask questions is the resulting gaps in knowledge. Hart Research Associates distributed a survey to faculty members to determine the readiness of entering college students. Glaring gaps in the knowledge of students were discovered. Just 4 percent of faculty members of two-year colleges were able to rate incoming students as being “most generally able to do what is expected.” The percentage for the four-year college was at 12 percent.

Reinforces bad habit for future learning: A habit is defined as “a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up.” If students continually resort to retreating when they have a question, then over time they will develop the habit of not asking when it is necessary. This bad habit may follow them to college and the workplace. Finding a way to break past it now is necessary.

Hinders self-esteem: Students who are missing chunks of information due to their own refusal to ask questions likely feel low self-esteem. They know they should be and could be obtaining the information.


Solutions for teachers..


Teachers have a great responsibility to draw students out of their shell and nurture the love of learning that is inherent within every person. Teachers teach because they have a passion for their students and imparting knowledge to them. So, what can teachers do when students won’t ask questions due to various reason? Here are 3 ideas listed below for teachers.

Make asking questions like a “game”. Everyone gets to ask a question throughout the week. Advise the students who will be called on to ask their question a day in advance – that way there are no surprises, which would only frighten a shy student. Questions, then, become commonplace.

♥ Organize group questions. Put students in groups and have them all brainstorm together to come up with questions for the teacher or for the other groups. If they ask the questions to the other group, you can make this into a game or at the very least it is an excellent way for them to study and quiz one another. Studies show that students learn better when having fun.

♥ Create a question box for students to place their questions in and the teacher reads one or two a day as time permits. You could make this an anonymous box. The student is still having pertinent questions answered and not getting stressed over doing it verbally. Although, a combination of all of the above ideas would work most effectively.

The body of late Maitama Sule who died on July 3 arrived Air Force Base in Kano Tuesday evening. Governor Umar Ganduje led Senate President Bukola Saraki, Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal and other dignitaries to receive the body of the late Ambassador. The statesman died Monday in Cairo, Egypt and his body returned to Nigeria Tuesday, July 4.
Bukola Saraki shared photos of the body being received with the caption;
“This evening, I was humbled to join Governor Ganduje and other dignitaries to receive the body of the great Danmasanin Kano, Ambassador Maitama Sule.

The EFCC Tuesday arraigned four staff of First Marina Trust Limited before Justice J. E. Oyefeso of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing to the tune of USD $500,000.00 (Five Hundred Thousand United State Dollars).
The accused are Adeyemi Oluwaseun, Suleiman Yusuf, Yusuf Imran Adekunle and Haruna ssah-allegedly connived to defraud their employers of the sum of money.
After arraignment and plea for bail, Justice Oyefeso, however, ordered the defendants to be remanded in Ikoyi prison pending the hearing of the bail applications by the defence counsels. The matter was adjourned to July 11, 2017 for hearing of the pending bail

Another Nigerian lady has just called out Uber claiming she was robbed last week Tuesday in an Uber in Lagos, and valuables including jewelry, phones worth 1M were taken away.The lady, Christabel, sister to fashion blogger, Ono Bello shared her story. She wrote;


'"I got robbed on Tuesday the 27th of June using uber in Lagos. The driver took me off my route to a very lonely dark spot. He had enough time to leave the place. Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, has blasted Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai for opposing the calls for restructuring the country. El-Rufai was a guest on Channels TV yesterday where he vehemently opposed calls by some politicians for the restructuring of Nigeria. A man who claimed to be a soldier has been arrested after stealing a phone from a shop in Lagos state.


A 30-year old man, Fabulous Okoro who pretended to be a military officer has been arrested and charged before a Lagos court for impersonation and stealing at Balogun Market at Trade Fair Complex in Lagos.



PM Express revealed that the incident happened at Sokoto plaza of the market where it was gathered that some suspected criminals used to wear military uniform and come to the market to intimidate and extort the traders.


The suspect wore Nigeria Army fez cap and other military wears, entered a shop and stole a phone belonging to one Nkechi Obinabu and left. While he was leaving the owner caught him and demanded for her phone, but he claimed that he was an army officer.

Baddo member, Owoyemi, who has been making useful confessions since his arrest had named a man as one of the active members of his gang who was tasked with buying arms and ammunition for their operations.

Operatives of Nigerian Security Agencies in Ikorodu, have started an investigation into the identity of a man named Oghenekairo whom notorious ritualist kingpin, Owoyemi Taiwo, aka Scorpion, mentioned as one of his gang members in the area.

In one of his numerous confessional statements, owoyemi the ritualist said Oghenkairo is one of the most active members of his gang, who had the job of buying arms and ammunition, for their operations.

He said: “When Oghenkairo , who lives in Ikorodu, called me and expressed fears, I also assured him that nothing was going to happen. I told him I was making plans for another operation and needed him to go into the creeks and buy a new set of arms and ammunition”.

Notorious kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a. Evans, has filed a lawsuit against the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris and three others at the Federal High Court in Lagos over his continuous detention.


Also joined in the lawsuit as respondents are Nigeria Police Force, Commissioner of Police, Lagos State and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Police Command.


Evans who was arrested at his Magodo mansion in Lagos on June 10th, says his detention without trial is illegal and wants the police to release him.
In a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed on his behalf by a his counsel, Olukoya Ogungbeje, Evans is asking the court to instruct the respondents to immediately charge him to court if there is any case against him in accordance with Sections 35 (1) (c) (3) (4) (5) (a) (b) and 36 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
