Thank you for the information. I will look into this. I hope they have this in Nigeria EgunMogaji: I wasn’t irritated at all actually.
PVC is good for plumbing up to a point. Our artisans are lazy because there are some places where metal should be used.
When plastic burns it gives off chemicals and this is why I don’t like PVC for ceiling. Fire doesn’t kill as much as smoke and what it contains.
By the way you can also use PEX for plumbing. I hope to use this on my main house.

Sorry, it was a serious question. I didn’t mean to irritate. I was under the impression that pvc piping material was one of the best EgunMogaji: You can answer that question yourself Sir.
But we’re talking about ceiling, not plumbing |

If pvc should be banned what material did you use for plumbing? EgunMogaji: Whom ever showers with water reaching the ceiling probably need to review their methods
Anyways, a good quality gloss paint will take care of that.
PVC should actually be banned from the market. |

You need to learn to read. I live in Toronto. Ethiopian airlines only operate on certain days in Toronto. You are free to go on the website yourself and put in flights from Toronto to Enugu. I have nothing to prove to you. Not everyone lives in YOUR AREA. You are a very hard headed individual who resorts to name calling and insults due to disagreements with others. All this hatred because of a flight. Are you serious? Is this how we igbos are to work together? Is this how we are to be one and reach common goals? ChimaAdeoye: Please stop responding to that Afonja. The more you do, the more he thinks you are dumb and he has deceived you by merely claiming he is igbo. Let him use google translate to also write Igbo and think nobody knows about that too. Biko, Stop being deceived by their antics to be Igbo this or that. Just ignore them to spew their bitterness and hatred. We share a country with horribly hateful fellows we call "compatriots"
If you scroll back this thread a few pages, you will see where they argued Enugu was more expensive. Then they argued, ET was unsafe. Now they are arguing it has layover. They are sooooooooooo bitter. You could see for yourself that they mischivously closed down the airport in it's busiest week in December. Please do not let them deceive you by claiming they are Igbo this or that. The same people that conspired to kill Onitsha seaport using similar deceitful and totally false talk are having sleepless night with AIIA, Enugu. They want Igbo to have no access whatsoever to the outside world without first going to their region. That is why you must ignore their silly excuses and just do what needs to be done.
I have flow that route from USA about 4 times now and you rarely stay in Addis Ababa for more than 3-4 hours. Notice that he deliberately chose to begin his trip on Tuesday or Thursday so that he would have missed the Enugu bound flight and would then have a long layover. If you book such flight on ET website, they immediately suggest alternate days for your trip. If he could start a trip on 13th, he could very well start it on the 12 or the 14th and he won't have any long layover, but he chose 13th because he was very mischievous to claim there is a long layover. I started the trip on March 12th instead of 13th he mischievously chose. You can see for yourself that it is only in the return flight that you have more than 3 hours layover.
Layover at Addis Ababa is the shortest compared to using Air France or Virgin to Abuja or Lagos from USA. Infact in one trip i almost missed the Enugu flight because the layover was just 30 minutes from when the plane that brought us from Washington touched down in Addis Ababa. Usually the one hour layover from Washington DC is like 30-40 minutes because the Washington flight is always delayed. Please don't let these wicked people deceive you. NEVER believe any word they say. They are out to deceive you out of their senseless undiluted hatred. |

Before you say I’m lying. Please have a look at this. Over 33 hours flight from my area to get to Enugu. 3 planes in total. Its how their system is set up. Most connecting flights will be through Washington from Toronto. What would make my family and I choose this when we could take an Air France flight for example that is cheaper and half the travel time? Please try and understand my experience before telling me that I’m being superficial and killing zeal. The politics of the airport with other tribes in Nigeria and the federal government have nothing to do with it. passion007: Your post is superficial and upsetting, and I'll tell you why.
There is a sense of responsibility that most Igbos have toward AIIA. We have witnessed years of neglect, of traveling through decrepit federal roads in order to get to the airports in Lagos or Abuja. Grudgingly, AIIA was given international status. With no facilities to shoulder such a responsibility, it was almost certain the airport would crumble upon itself-it was only a matter of time.
Years have gone by, and the airport has held up against the smear campaign of the Lagos media who once opined Enugu was too dirty to host an international airport, and against the duplicity of the FG who denied other airlines entry into Enugu, while allowing new airlines leave to enter Kano, a city with far less international air traffic. Hence, most of us have come to stomach the slight inconvenience that is a 6-hour layover at Addis Ababa in order to give this airport a lifeline. Then, there's the independent thinkers like yourself who cannot be bothered to fly an airline struggling to find its feet on alien, inhospitable soil, who are enticed by the convenience of flying the Royal Dutch airline, and only waiting under an hour in Amsterdam. That certainly sounds far less tedious, and who could blame you for making a convenient choice. What the rest of the guys on here are trying to say in the nicest of ways and in the politest language, is that your opinion on the matter is of limited benefit, hence no one wants to hear it. Moreso as your time is far too precious to be spent on a matter as pedestrian as planning your trip around the three days Ethiopian flies into Enugu, and as you won't be flying Ethiopian anyway, we are asking that you not kill the zeal of those who do. I believe that's not an unreasonable request.

This forum is for those of us to share our own personal experience. If you took the time to read my comments you would’ve noted that for ME and those of us in Canada many of the Ethiopian airline flights come with long layovers that add up to OVER 24 hours, sometimes even more. Remember someone in Canada will have to catch a flight to a state in the U.S and then catch a flight to Addis Ababa, and then catch another flight that flies out to Enugu. What if someone has children? Think about how inconvenient that is. Very rarely was I able to find a flight from my city with a straight connect to adis. And the fact of the matter is, my goal is to go home, if I can help the airport that’s a bonus. But not my priority. I discussed MY experience. I’m not killing the zeal of anyone here, unless that’s how they choose to see it. I never insulted anyone here other than share MY OWN experience before I was called a traitor and an afonja trying to break the igbo people. Just because I don’t find the options Ethiopian airlines has in MY AREA to be appealing to ME. Is they way I was addressed correct? Is that how you will teach your children and community members to behave to others? If I lived in the United States it would be very convenient for me. But I don’t, and I’m sharing my own experience on the matter. The fact that my”igboness” is put to question over a simple preference of flight is disgusting. My own personal experince doesn’t have anything to do with what Lagos and other states and people are doing to a whole Enugu state and airport. And I shouldn’t be compared to them. passion007: Your post is superficial and upsetting, and I'll tell you why.

I’m igbo. Ethiopian airlines is not a competitive airline for those of us in Canada. I flew klm when I visited last year. And this year again I’m flying klm because of the long layover. It’s a sad day when because someone doesn’t agree with you, you resort to calling me a traitor and afonja hell bent on destroying igbos. I’m a proud igbo person. Who doesn’t find Ethiopian airlines compatible for ME. My goal is to enter Nigeria. Not fly Ethiopian airlines. I’m sorry you weren’t able to see that in my comments. I hope one day you can relax and stop abusing people who don’t do things the way you do. All your abusive words is counter-productive. What exactly have I done or said to you that will make you believe I’m plotting against my own people. Even in my earlier comment I stated im landing in port and driving the rest of the way to anambra. What is wrong in that? I discussed my own difficuties with the airline. I never once said anything against igbos in general. ChimaAdeoye: Afonja! Nobody is asking you to fly to Enugu airport. Without you, it is growing and shall continue. Yorubas like you go out of their way to fly Ethiopian airline from Washington or London to Addis Ababa and to Lagos. You won't complain about that, but if it's Enugu then you open your filthy mouth to complain.
Igbos shall still fly to Lagos, Abuja or Kano depending on where they have families to receive them when they enter the country. Of course some will fly directly home to Enugu and none of your silly propaganda can stop it or your wicked ideas of closing the airport during the peak Christmas week to frustrate people who want to fly directly home to Enugu. Even if Nigeria Federal Government continued to flatly refuse to build a proper taxiway for Akanu Ibiam International airport as it did for all the other international airports yet continue to reject the idea to concession out the airport to private investors to properly develop the airport, it still can't stop our progress nor frustrate growth of the airport.
All your wicked actions in Nigeria against Ndigbo which has held Nigeria back from developing will finally come to naught. Just that you people are too daft and blinded by hate to see it.

So igbos are supposed to go out of their way abroad to research how Ethiopian airlines operates to fit them into thier schedule? Other airlines operate on a schedule that is able to acommodate most people and their traveling habits with competitive prices. The goal is to enter Nigeria to visit family. Not to bend over backwards to meet anybody’s agenda. If KLM, British airways, Air France etc has routes available that make it easy for the customer to get to Nigeria, Ethiopian airlines can go to hell. I’m not planning my trip around an airline. There is a date I want to go home and I pick the airline that can get me there at a competitive price without much burden on me. Simple ChimaAdeoye: EXACTLY! If you are traveling to a place where there are 3 flights / week, you MUST plan to travel on Monday, on Wednesday and on Friday.
If you travel on the wrong days, you will definitely have long layovers because if you land in Addis Ababa on a Sunday, you have to stay in a hotel until Tuesday when the first flight to Enugu for the week leave Addis Ababa.
It is true that some of our people in diaspora know next to nothing about Nigeria or at least recent developments in Nigeria. Some still call Obasanjo and Babangida as if they were still Presidents in Nigeria. Our people here usually lack basic information about home, yet are too adamant in their ways to seek it or even accept it when you volunteer to inform them. |
Politics › Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by Memejem: 4:47am On Feb 07, 2018 |
That’s true. For those of us from Canada, most times Ethiopian airlines is just not a feasible choice. With the amount of time spent for layovers. Most flights to get to Nigeria take over 24 hours. Some even greater than 48 hours. And to be very honest their pricing is not competitive. No airline has been able to beat KLM’s prices for me. Flying in to Enugu would be the best case scenario for my family, but Ethiopian airlines just doesn’t have the best deals available. I’d rather land in port harcourt and drive the rest of the way home. Lots of savings to be made that way InvertedHammer: / The biggest setback for US-ENU flight is the total time of travel. The layover duration at Addis-Ababa airport is too much. I wonder who will waste 12hrs layover in Ethiopia. The same goes for Virgin Atlantic. They have almost 24hrs layover in London in LOS-LAX itinerary. Ethiopian airline is competing with Turkish airline on which will waste passengers' time on unnecessary layover hours. But Air France, KLM, Delta will get you to your destination with minimal layover hours. That means a lot. It seems that people on the East coast have better luck with Ethiopian airline. |

It’s obvious we think differently in this matter. Let’s leave it. Daewang: The creation of Israel was not solely a UN affair. Jews especially the ones in Europe and America fought and agitated aggressively for the creation of a purely Jewish state you can look up the Balfour Declaration when you have time. Also Zionism is not racism, it is simply a belief in the exceptional destiny of the Jewish race. The UN has always been pro arab and anti Israel. They keep passing several resolutions condemning Israel and not one against the Palestinians and now they want to divide Jerusalem the eternal Jewish capital. Those groups you call Jewish terrorist organizations are in actuality freedom fighting organizations for the protection of the Jewish people if not for them Hezbollah and Hamas would have done so much damage. These groups are just like Gideon and the Maccabbees brothers of the Bible(they would be considered terrorists in this modern times). Zionist ideology is exactly what Igbos need to move our land forward at least it will make people to think twice before attacking innocent and defenceless Igbos. |

The creation of Israel was a world decision btw. Created by the United Nations as a solution/safe haven as a result of the catastrophic events of world war 2. They had the backing of world powers behind them for that. Also keep in mind that Zionism is a radical form Judaism that was also ruled by the United Nations as racism and bred racial discrimination. Not to mention that the Zionist movement bred many terrorist Jewish groups and attacks. I sincerely don’t want the igbo people to behave like the Zionists. Maybe we can emulate the common Jews but not the Zionist movement. Daewang: Purehuman impresses me with his ideas. As for those complaining they seem not to realize that nothing great can be achieved without enormous sacrifice. This is the difference between Igbos and Jews, while Jews are ready to sacrifice their lives and every comfort for the Jewish State and the Zionist cause Igbos on the other hand are not willing. Everyone is thinking of themselves. This is why the whole world trembles because of Zionism but here when we talk of Biafra even ewedu tribe will be laughing.
However, I disagree that Igbos in the east can't do anything. These people are amazing and resilient people and there is nothing they cannot achieve. The salvation of Igbo land rests on the Igbos in the east, this doesn't mean others can't contribute. |

Please post links and documentation to support your argument that Eritrea did what you proposed. Have you thought of why Zimbabwe didn’t go through with it? Most countries tax incomes coming into thier country. If not it’s called “money laundering”, that’s not the same thing as your proposal. Those individuals are moveing back into thier country. So therefore they can be legally taxed as they are now a LIVING member of the society. This entitlement mentality you have to other people money is what is wrong with nigeria and it’s politics. Is there something wrong with taxing the Citizens residing within Nigeria? You are NOT entitled to somebody’s money. Regardless of how small. Make a case for donations. You will not be able to tax diasporans Purehuman: Eritrea once did it and Zimbabwe was thinking of doing it. There was a system Adeosun wanted to introduce before it was stopped. China tax incomes repatriated to the country.
I have given you countries who are doing it and are thinking of doing it. I am not saying we should force people to pay tax. Maybe the word tax creates fear but let us say donation. If a flat rate of 50 dollars is deducted from diasporas, will they die or go bankrupt? These are monies that can create an economic enabling environment for these people.
For those still in shock, when I have even mean diasporas, I am still talking of igbo business men in Nigeria but do not have businesses in the east. If they pay little for the development of the east, it will go a long way in generating money for development. |

God bless you!!! You have said my thoughts exactly!! The proposed Money is still entering the same corrupt set of people. Was Awkaibom developed using diasporans money? Nigeria is able to produce more than enough wealth. It’s the utilization and application that is the issue. D1O: This is staggering!
As is typical of these issues, some have now jumped on the band-wagon of treating symptoms instead of uprooting the root causes and sadly, they are feeling very "smart" about it.
Having lofty ideas for development is always welcome and surely is a good thing. But so also is giving some serious thought to "solutions". One would expect that any serious proposal for solving/funding these ideas would first start by doing/seeking answers to these simple math questions.
1. How much are SE governors currently generating(e.g taxation)/turning over/receiving every year? Say "X" 2. How much are these SE governors spending on what they actually execute (e.g actual salaries paid, not just overall wage bill or pensions owed)? Monies actually sent to LGAs not re-routed via caretaker committees. Say "Y" 3. How much of what is left then ends up corruptly in the pockets of cronies, theiving family members, hidden property, buried underground, smuggled overseas, 10% kickback, over-inflated budgets, etc, say "Z".
You'd be shocked at the current value of "Z". Seriously, I say it again, you'd be shocked at the current value of "Z" and what "Z" could achieve if actually utilised in the SE and re-routed into "Y".
One would think that a more sensible approach would be figuring out/suggesting ways of recovering "Z" or at least reducing "Z". One would think you would be suggesting innovative ways of checking the excesses of corrupt leaders to ensure that they, and those around them, are unable to loot at will....That is what uprooting a root cause sounds like. Lack of money funding in Nigeria today is a symptom not the disease.
But No!, lets not do any of the above. Let's simply tax those in diaspora, a random, non means-tested, arbitrary and unenforceable figure, just to increase the value of "X" above and by extension the value of "Z" too.
Staggering entitlement mentality. Same feather as the conspiracy theories of "the rest have ganged up against us, and we have absolutely no responsibility in the current state of affairs". Our misfortune is always someone else's fault and therefore always someone else's responsibility to fix.... apparently, this time around, it is the turn of the Igbo diasporan.
Umunne, legodu nu nno ka anyi si eche echiche mgbe ufodu!!
Na wa!
This entitlement mentality is perhaps more deep-rooted than folks would like to acknowledge. |

Do you know the definition of tax? A neighbourhood/homeowner association is basically what you’re talking about. This is something that is already practiced all over the world in many communities and estates. It’s not compulsory. But those who choose to live in a certain community will agree to contribute certain things in order to maintain and improve the lifestyle and environment. That’s not the same thing as mandatory TAX. You can’t now force someone who doesn’t live in that community to come and contribute for its maintainence. BTW tax is usually applied to the sale of goods and services to all citizens and from employees in thier bi weekly paychecks. This is a percentage that is applicable, fair and just to MOST if not all citizens. This is the kind of system that the south east should try to implement. Not forcing people abroad to pay money. That kind of tax system is applicable to all workers in Nigeria and foreigners who visit the county as well. Basically the state government will be pulling in a percentage of money whenever a purchase is made regardless of who is purchasing it. The issue with this, is that the sales of goods and services are not regulated and well organized yet in Nigeria. Purehuman: I believe when I was little, my dad used to attend our village meetings every Sunday. They were all taxed with the responsibility of tarring our community and provide basic amenities. They all complied, now, my community is one of the few communities that had tarred roads in the 90s.

I’ve already told you I’m doing my own part to develop what I can. Nobody forced me or asked me. A commission cannot legally tax people abroad. What you are proposing you are unable to articulate effectively. Basically, you want to develop some sort of foundation that collects donations from individuals abroad to help develop the south east. If you don’t want to include the government in this plan there are so many ways this idea of yours will end badly, not to talk of the money being seized or taxed highly by the government. Very easy for Money to become launderd or be utilized as a tool for fraud. How will you regulate it? Who will be the regulating body? How will you utilize the monies appropriately without the partnership of the state government? What checks will be in place to account for the money? How transparent will the accounts be to public? I’m sorry, but this your idea has not been thought through properly. At all at all Purehuman: No one is talking about Nigerian government. We are talking about creating a commission that will manage the development of the igboland. A country cannot legally tax members in another country. They don’t reside in Nigeria. You can not tax them. Asking for donations is another thing entirely. But you cannot legally Tax someone who does not reside in Nigeria or operate a business there. Simple. End of story Because you are willing and able to give 20% of your salary to the south east does not mean other are. Do your own part, and focus on those in Nigeria. Purehuman: I am the maintenance manager in a well known multinational company. You know the company but I will not mention it. I am ready to pay as much as 20% of my monthly income in this because the ripple effect of such development will reduce unemployment in the east to 1%. Then we can stop taxing the diasporas.
How can you keep blaming the governors when Anambra keep spending more on recurrent expenditure and low on capital projects and investment projects.
I might be wrong but the truth is, the number of taxable igbo people in the east is way to low to get the kind of development we are pursuing. |

Purehuman: The east is your land and your ancestral land for that matter. You staying outside it does not mean you belong outside. Who is we? I’m sorry but you have no idea what you’re talking about. This your idea is not based on reality. It’s a dream. You cannot tax people who don’t live in Nigeria and are not operating some kind of business You want to build up the south east, not by utilizing the resources it has, and not by bringing Igbo businesses from other parts of Nigeria to the east. BUT by taxing it’s own people who are trying and suffering abroad for thier families. You’re a joker. Do you have a full time job? Purehuman: Monies generated through taxation will be geared into providing employment through building facilities and partnering organization for expansion to provide employment. People living outside the region will come back home to be employed in different sectors that will be invest on.
If you cannot give out 100dollars, you can give 50dollars and it will still go a long way to help southeast grow.

Why do you think it’s fair and just to place the responsibility of developing a region from resources outside of it. Tell me how that make any sense? It sounds greedy, to be honest. It’s like asking someone to do something for your benefit and you’re not willing to contribute. With your proposal, Nigerian diasporans are likely to just dump Nigeria and never look back. Purehuman: Don't ever insult me again.
What is the total number of taxable income in the east presently and how much are they taxed? What kind of development do you want in the southeast that will not need huge sum. How many multinational companies can you boast in the east? What is the economic relevance of the east? Where do u think Ebonyi state government will get money to fund their budget?

I live in Canada, do you live abroad? Have you factored in the expenses we have here before you think of gross income? Do you know how much rent is over here or mortgage? That $1000 a month is how much it’s is rent is for 1 bedroom apartment in the city. Do you know how much hydro and utilities are? Or you don’t want us to have electricity and running water? What about the monthly cellphone bill? How about internet? And then let’s factor in food, and transport costs? And then insurance? What about the tax we’re already paying here? Let’s also factor in the money many of us send home to aid our family members in the village. We have RESPONSIBILITIES. The un-employment rate in Nigeria has risen to about 18% in Nigeria in 2017. Many Nigerians are out of work. Their primary concern is food and housing. Does the average Nigerian make enough to pay $100 US dollars a month to fund the development of the south east? All of a sudden you think the burden should be on diasporans who don’t live in the county to build it up? By force. Please, show your humanity. There is a difference between wants and needs. Yes we all want the SE to develop. But you must think of a solution that is fair and equitable. Consider others. Purehuman: An average working class diaspora make up to 1000dollars monthly after tax. It is something I know. What we are trying to develop is not going to be just good roads and facilities.
We want to develop the first Mall City in the world in Onitsha..
We want to build the first health city in Africa in Enugu. The biggest fashion city in Abia.
The biggest Automobile industry in Nigeria in Nnewi.
The Agricultural backbone in Ebonyi that will house the biggest FCMGs.
All these things need aggressive investment inflow. If we tax each other, we will create millions of jobs. We need more money in the region and if we do not tax Lagos igbos, Kano igbos, Ondo igbo, abuja igbo, Jos igbo, Benue igbo and other igbos, then we won't get the required funds to develop the east. |

$100 monthly? Are you serious? You can’t tax someone that is not living in the country by force. If they are not working in Nigeria or doing any business whatsoever, there is no legal means to tax them all in the name of development. The government does not know how to use the money they have efficiently, and you expect diasporans to willingly give away their money for what? The official rate right now is 1 US dollar to 360 Naira which is 36,000 monthly. Multiply that for 1 year is 432,000 Naira a year on taxes alone. Just because someone has a passport that’s not Nigerian? It’s a form of extortion. What kind of entitlement mentality is this? Does the average Nigerian citizen make up to that in a year? Your idea doesn’t even take into account the financial capability of these diasporans. Not everyone who lives abroad is wealthy? Those abroad have their own responsibilities, you now want to heap the whole state of the SE on them? What of those in Nigeria? Purehuman: I am not referring to the Nigerian government but the southeastern states. We don't need to collect huge sums from them but something that looks like a pledge. It can just be 100 dollars monthly. Something that won't break the bank. We have too many people who want the east to develop but do not partake in its development.
We can also create a means with which they can save money in naira and we use the money for business then the profit channeled into development. |

How is this going to work favorably for Nigeria. You want Nigerians abroad to just abandon Nigeria completely? You want to tax those who live abroad for what? What about the people who live and work in Nigeria? The taxes that the government has placed upon those who live in Nigeria, are the using those monies appropriately? Purehuman: We are not using our diaspora well. The igbos have very huge number of people living outside the region. If we can generate a means of taxing the diasporas, then we will get more revenue in the region. A people with over 65% if it's people living outside the region will tell on its revenue. |
