Hello guys. Please I need your input.
So we've agreed 25th July for completion, and solicitor say contracts would be exchanged this coming week, no chains.
We went ahead to buy some household stuff from curry's on finance (£1640 @0% interest for 12 months). Now estate agent asked that hope we've not gone buying stuff, told her we bought some stuff, she said she was going to get in touch with Barclays to ask if it's a problem, but that we should tell the solicitor to hold on the exchange till we get feedback.
Abeg what should we do in this instance, cos I don't want to tell the solicitor to hold on.
Whats the implications and the worst case scenario, Could Barclays withdraw the mortgage offer cos of this?
We have some funds available for setting up the house, do we just use this to pay the credit?
Finally got the keys on Friday as planned after all the Barclays drama. This forum has been a huge source of inspiration and a great bank of information. Reading about people's mortgage journey and learning from them, people sharing insights, all the banter and vibes ati be be lo. Thanks so much to this great house.
Now phase 2 begins, putting the house in order, all my DIY skills will severely put to test, we go dey do am small small.
And @Lexusgs430, no pressure wink grin

Thanks guys for all the suggestions.
Finally heard back from Barclays via the mortgage advisor. Was given two options 1) Pay off the credit 2) Have the mortgage offer reevaluated based on the new available info. We opted for the 1st option and have paid off, so hopefully things should move on as planned.
Thanks once again for your input, greatly appreciated.

There is usually a condition on your mortgage offer from barclays asking you not to take any additional loan and pay off any outstanding loan within a number of days. But I think it applies after completion and I dont think Barclays has much control over that once completion is done. However, taking on new loan during the process could be a red flag to your willingness to comply but in this case its not material.

The probable worst is a hit on your affordability calculation which means the bank reduces the max amount they can borrow you.

Based on that number, the bank may consider the impact of an additional £136 monthly outgoing to your affordability calculation.

Are you borrowing the maximum amount Barclays can offer? If not, you may be able to preceed without any impact.

You may be better off paying it outright and letting the mortgage broker know that you have settled it.
Thank you.
We're borrowing 32k less than the maximum.
The plan was even to use the deposit we get from our current landlord towards the loan and pay off the balance from our salaries.
I asked the mortgage advisor if we should pay off the loan, but she said we should hold on for a feedback from Barclays.
But I don't want to tell the solicitor to hold on.

D1uncle:
A hard search has already been recorded on your account, and the bank will see it regardless. At this point, what matters is how it may impact your mortgage application. The key factors to consider are the amount you’re borrowing and the size of your Mortgage in Principle (MIP).

If your MIP is £500,000 and you’re purchasing a property worth £300,000, then a home improvement loan is unlikely to be a major issue, though it’s important to note that taking out credit before a mortgage application is generally not recommended.

It would be a good idea to speak with a mortgage advisor (rather than the estate agent) to understand how this may affect your application. They can give tailored advice based on your full financial picture.
Thanks guys. It's not a new credit card, I've had that card but not used it for over year, would that still show on a hard search? Do you think payoff will help in this case?
We are not borrowing maximum amount, there is a difference of about 32k between max and what we are borrowing.
Mortgage advisor was the one that suggested we tell the solicitor to hold the exchange till she hears from Barclays. The process has been moving sweetly and swiftly, don't want this my mistake to be a problem.

Between option 1 or 2.......

Calculate what your mortgage payments would be per month and see how that £900 fits in or out....... 😁😂
Option 1 is slightly cheaper. That's the option my advisor suggested, just wanted more opinions. I guess I'll go with it.
Thanks boss
TravelRe: Living In The UK: Property,Mortgage And Related by Meogom: 1:43am On Jun 06, 2025
Hello guys.
Trying to choose wilhich rate to go with
The options from Barclays are
1) 4.84% for 2ys fixed without product fee
2) 4.67% for 2yrs fixed with product fee of £900
3) 4.67% for 5yrs fixed with product fee of £900.

My mortgage advisor suggests we should go with the first option, as she's positive we can get better rates in 2years.

Whats your advice here please. Will appreciate your insights.

This doesn’t seem very transparent or definite.

How much more are the other quotes you’ve gotten?
£4500 and 5000

Good day my ppl. Please I need advice.

Got this quote from a solicitor, I can see many things are not included, abeg will it come back to haunt me? Abi I can do without those things mentioned. Cos the other quotes I'm getting are quite high. It's only this one that is reasonable (£2047) but I can see many things are not included.

Mr lexus pls what is the best way to get cheap insurance.
I just got one 2009 suv, The cheapest quote i got was 300pounds monthly, for what when its not private jet
Tho my license is less than 2months old
My car park is public car park.

Also i am being charged 30quid monthly for road tax, should road tax really be that high?
You can search for Easy insurance (https://www.eazyinsure.co.uk/terms_conditons.php), they are brokers and they got me a good deal, far better than I got from those compare websites. You could give them a try.

Merry Christmas folks

It's almost your lucky day ........ What do you do ......

- Guard that ticket like you won the lotto...

- Send an appeal to the council, explaining your plight and their mess up. Include your details so they could respond back .......

What would they do ......

- They have pictures of your vehicle.....
- Another PCN cannot be reissued....
----- They would eventually have to cancel the PCN...... Your lucky day .......😁🤣

NB: The ticket inspector might be sent to vision 2020 or specsavers..........👀👀👀👀
Update: got a response from council. Just as oga Lexusgs430 said, the ticket has been cancelled. They said though the car was wrongly parked and there is photo evidence, but it's been cancelled because of the enforcement officer's mistake. £35 saved. I promise to go and sin no more.

[quote author=kwakudtraveller post=127252770]Why not contact the company that sent you the penalty charge? [/quote

Its from the council, it was dropped on my screen. And I already called the council but was stonewalled.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Meogom: 10:56pm On Nov 30, 2023
Good evening my good people. I got a Penalty charge notice for wrong parking, but there was a mistake with the registration number, was 22 instead of 62. I tried paying or initiate an appeal on the council site, but it's not going through. When I try with the correct registration number it comes up with "the combination of notice number, VRM you have enter cannot be found, please try again". When I enter the one on the PCN, it says" there is currently nothing outstanding on this notice".
Don't knw how to progress from here, and I learnt its not good to just ignore PCN. Tried calling council, they said the only options for PCN is to either pay or appeal, that they don't offer any guidance on that, but I can't do any of those two.

Good day my ppl. So I got my pay slip and saw some new stuff (I was away from work for one week due to sickness). Saw osp, ssp and osp contra payment, but they didn't make any difference to the money.
Osp payment + Ssp payment = Osp contra payment
They added osp and ssp then subtracted osp contra, thereby making net difference zero (0), so in other words, no effect on the final payment.
Abeg what does it mean please, I've checked the Internet but still don't get it.

I work with a company where I'm being appropriately taxed, and I sometimes pick shifts on index flex during weekends when I'm free just to add a few extra quids. The pay is mostly between 100 and 120 pounds. I noticed indeed flex does not remove any tax, just wanted to ask if this is not an issue make dem no go talk say person dey owe tax after sometime.
