Ugonnax:Really? What Yoruba man would have surname and first name as Igbo names, or what how do you recognise a Yoruba writer?? |
ThundrCork:Easy said than done bro.. The same people that would spur you up to create your 'Biafr.aland' will be the same people that will criticise you when the forum crashes ... |
studio14:Then "we" should show them that "we" are civilised ... |
kingsman66:You think I speak in favour of the founder? Then you need to read my reply to his rule9 here: https://www.nairaland.com/2792995/nairaland-says-no-biafra/49#40896085 |
smiliyB:Interesting ...lol |
NOBLEDANDY:Why do you want to deactivate your account? And what has that got to do with Ipob protest?? |
Please as much as we are enbittered about the latest events on Nairaland, we should try as much as possible to checkmate our emotions. Let's act maturedly. Let's act like civilized citizens and let's prove to the world that civilization runs in our blood. All these outbursts of anger, resentment and unecessary counter-post is totally out-of-the-point and uncalled for. Infact we have been known as mouth waggers and die-hard tribalistics, can we break that jinx please? If you are ban by Mynd44 or by Nairaland Founder, please it's very unmatured for you to post a counter-post with another account (which is an offence on its own) raining abuses on the Mod or on the Founder. We are not archaic early men. We are civilized individuals capable of decent and intelligent reasoning capacity. Nairaland does not own us. Nairaland cannot stop the protest neither can it stop Ucher Mefo from broadcasting on RBL. The ban or censor on the use of the word "Biafra" is only a mild issue compared to what you guys are facing in real life. So why hype over trivial issues as these? Why get over worked by the ban? Please let's respect ourselves and give our kind a respectable voice in our country. Please behave as you RECIEVE SENSE, Amen. |

When the current agitations for Biafra by Igbo youth started under the platform of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, most people did not take them serious. This was probably because of the tepid, non-violent and purposeless posture that Barrister Ralph Uwazuruike’s Movement for the Actualisation of the Independent State of Biafra, MASSOB, struck in the past twenty or so years of its founding. Apart from routinely mustering thousands of idle young men and women, moving in large columns of buses, planting Biafran flags here and there, occasionally having its leaders and members arrested and such inanities, MASSOB was essentially irrelevant as opposed to, say, the Yoruba Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, which acted as an alternative grassroots police/security outfit which had the confidence of the people. MASSOB squatted on its haunches while kidnappers, armed robbers and all sorts of vile criminals had Igboland for breakfast, lunch and dinner. IPOB, led by Nnamdi Kanu, came with a different weapon: fiery demagoguery spewed from the megaphones of Radio Biafra, a foreign-based pirate radio station, stroking the dormant chords of Igbo sentiments about their ever worsening conditions in their country, Nigeria, and telling them it is time to dump their fatherland for a dream independent Biafra. Kanu’s messages are clearly meant to drive a wedge between the Igbos and other Nigerians. He calls Nigeria a “zoo”. As you know, it is animals that reside in zoos. Naturally, the reactions to Nnamdi Kanu and his IPOB crowd are mixed among Nigerians. The Igbos share the sentiments Kanu and his IPOB are ventilating. However, some, like me, do not think the answer lies in secession from our own fatherland into a Chimeric or Quixotic Republic of Biafra. For that reason, we urge restraint, knowing that to eat a hot okra soup you need to be cool. But some are letting their emotions run away with them and are siding with the protesting youth. Yet others hope, rather opportunistically, that “something” will come of it since it is through such hot-head antics that Nigeria gets to listen to its aggrieved citizens. Our other Majority brothers were no less divided. Among the Yorubas, those stung by the acid rhetoric of Radio Biafra, naturally fire back. They dare IPOB to “start and see what will happen”, and those with an eye on Igbo property in Lagos simply ask them to “go”. The more matured and reasonable ones call for caution, toeing my line of thought viz: that running away to Biafra is not the answer. We also note the disclaimers from the Itsekiri and Urhobo ethnic groups who have formally dissociated themselves from inclusion in the Biafra that agitators have been peddling with a map. From the North, feelings are similarly mixed. I find the Northern angle of great interest, for the simple reason that it is the region that stands accused of creating the unsavoury atmosphere that breeds injustice and misrule, which spark periodic “self-determination” agitations in the country. The North, with the lion’s share of everything: landmass, population (real or contrived), is dominant politically. When IPOB/MASSOB blockaded the River Niger Bridgehead at Onitsha and Asaba a fortnight ago and the army was used to kill some agitators and forcibly dislodge the thousands of youth from the main link between the South East/South-South and the rest of the country, some hoodlums seized the opportunity burn down a mosque and the residents of Onitsha who are of Northern origin had to flee to the various barracks for safety. This was a very testy moment. Given the amount of vitriol that Radio Biafra and IPOB had raked I feared the Bridgehead incident could be the ugly turning point we all prayed should never come. Within this period, IPOB had been calling on Igbos living in the North to relocate to Igboland. Some hitherto unknown Northern groups issued statements giving Igbos in the North two weeks to “leave”. They called on the Federal Government to “crack down” on the protests. But some others were more matured and reasonable in their response. One of them that impressed me the most was a group known as North East Youth Peace Development Initiative, NEYPDI. Its National President, Alhaji Kyari Idris Abubakar, countermanded the “quit notices” and asked the Federal Government not to use force but employ dialogue as force “is not the best approach to handling the matter”. Apart from the youth, the leadership of the North acted responsibly. The Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, Governor Kassim Shettima of Borno State issued a press release calling on Northerners not to allow the Onitsha incident to “spillover” to the North. ................. I rarely comment on posts on Nairaland, a silent reader of comments you might say. Did some stuffs in the Literature section and the Religion sections. I love being alone, seems my Phlegmatism follows me even to Nairaland..lol BUT, I just couldn't by-pass this thread without dropping something, though I tried to force myself against it, but I just couldn't stand this and this is my humble opinions and inferences. I WAS WRONG All the while I had thought Nairaland was not just a relative forum, I thought it was more than just a social media. I actually held Nairaland in high esteem with other sites. Whilst I saw sites like Naij.com and the rest as a restricted platform were a prime focus was on mainly POLITICS and NEWS, I saw Nairaland as a platform that has excellently, interestingly and of course successfully combined both the POLITICAL aspect, CULTURAL, EDUCATIONAL and even INTERNATIONAL aspect of our time into one giant and due to the fact that this technological giant was founded on the shores of Africa, precisely Nigeria, it was named NAIRALAND, giving credence and respect to its source NIGERIA. So I pledged my allegiance to rank this wonderful brainchild of our genius as one of the best in the world (you don't believe me, I don't expect you to). Now due to the recent turn out of events in our dear country Nigeria, and the elite's response to it in respect of his property (Nairaland), I am now being forced beyond my will to annul those high attributes I held for Nairaland - though who cares anyway, I can go to hell for all 'THE FOUNDER OF NAIRALAND' cares! HE WAS WRONG I don't expect you (Seun, mods, fellow Nlers) to believe me anyway, but needless to say, I will still say it. Please, I agree that am from Delta, I love my people, but I don't support the idea of inciting people against the government, so I don't advocate for or against Biafra, and I have my reasons for that. I am a Christian. God forbids disrespect to constituted authority in whatever form, so I obey all the laid down rules of the Fg. Also God forbids riotings, so I also disagree with any form of violence and riotings. And lastly, God does not forbid seccession, so neither do I. If Biafra wants to secceed, I pledge my full support but it must not be achieved outside the confinement of peaceful dialoguing. Nairaland owner and founder was wrong for: 1. Taking Nairaland as a personal property. Inducing social dictatorship. I believe such ideas are archaic and a rational human would know that the INTEREST of everyone in any organisation and system is highly paramount. This he failed to look into, by acting as a LORD of all and this is a mindset of a failure. Successful people acknowledge the presence and also the success of others and tries as much as possible to get their opinions even if they think they are sufficed with theirs. There is never a forest without a tree. 2. Mixing business with emotions. I think the founder sees Nairaland as more of a business platform were income is generated than justa mere fun site. Telling people what to post and what not to post simply because it is against your public security and your ethnicity depicts a man who hass not defined his parameters right. You should know that Nairaland is just above a fun site or play thing. By now you should know that nairaland is a herald of cash generating jackpot, hence you should know how to address and checkmate your emotions so that they don't come inbetween you and your business. 3. Failure to ask from others. If you think you know it al, then you are just showing me a man who is on his way to failure. Always ask questions. If possible bring it up for the public and see their response, act on it and try not to injure the feelings of your 'customers' by striking a balance between the ill and right. I cease to say more. |

Dear Myschool Typing with tears rolling down my eyes...concerning the way educational sector is ongoing in Nigeria. I just cant understand why admission process this year is very difficult. I passed my UTME and POST UTME but can't just understand why uniben has decided to deny me admission. I can't just bear the pains seeing those that scored same score with me being admitted. What will I call this? I just can't understand. There are so many students out there with same story with me, they are very hurt, crying everyday. It has gotten to the level whereby if you don't do shady runs, you can't be admitted into any institution, which ought not to be so. Students, whose parents are not financiallybalanced, what do you expect them to do? How can institutions produce first class graduates now when getting admission is runz, no privilege for the intelligent ones to be in school. Because now that admission process is like this, it is now difficult for students to beserious in their academics when they know without studying hard they will definitely block their way through which is not good. Please all institutions, change from this Act! Do you know how many students get traumatized because of this Act each year? Please stop this Act! When students pass your post UTME, give them admission. Uniben please reconsider those of us that score from 50 upwards. it's not easy passing both UTME and Post UTME. Please you guys should upload another list. Speaking from the affected students minds.... Something has to be done. We will highly appreciate it if you help us publish it, because we are not rich enough to sue them.... Yours truly, Affected student Uniben Reports Source |

Looking at the poor living condition and the backward infrastructural shortages in the Uniben halls of residence,a rational student will come to conclusion that “it is better of to stay off campus”instead of going through hell in the Uniben halls of residence. It is becoming rampant to see newly admitted students selling their bed spaces in the hostel for accomodations in off campuses, which relatively seem a hotel when compared to uniben hostels. Although the Uniben halls of residence is a discomfort to a person born with a silver or plastic spoon but quite comfortable for rugged boys and girls. In reality, many things are out of place in the halls of residence in uniben but there seem to be a hidden treasure which makes some watchful students from Ekosodin,Osasogie and PDPA to come and stay in the hostel for some periods of time. The following are the opportunity cost of staying in off campus as a Uniben student. (1)GOOD ELECTRICITY SUPPLY There is a constant electricity supply in the Uniben halls of residence, when compared to hostels in off campuses. For instance, the school authority provides an alternate power supply and makes it a right for students in the school hostels to always have steady power supply between 7pm-2am every day,if PHCN toys with the usual electricity supply. I suppose the reader knows the importance of electricity? (2)CONSTANT WATER SUPPLY There is always a constant availability of water in the school hostels, which means you can easily take your bath, wash your clothes, plates etc on time.In places like Ekosodin, students finds it sometimes difficult to get water but such experiences are not in the diary of students who stay in the halls of residence. (3)YOU WILL BE INFORMED Nothing happens within the school with you being ignorant, things don’t catch you unaware. When emergency schedules comes up,students living off campus may not be aware. As a matter of fact, emergence informations like this have cost a lot of students extra year in school. (4)READING ETHUSIASISM In the school hostel, you see your fellow roommates going to night classes to read, even if you don’t have the zeal, you feel encouraged to read, because “Iron sharpens Iron”. A recent survey shows that out of every 10 best students in a faculty,8 of them are always students who stay in the school hostels, take time to ask yourself why. (5)MAXIMUM SECURITY Although God is the author of protection and guidance but you need to help yourself because an old adage says”Heaven helps those who help themselves” so that you don’t be victim of other people’s mistakes or grievances. Everyone knows that off campus is not safe because you may be easily robbed or molested, unlike within the school premises where two fighting is extremely prohibited and may attract suspension from the university authorities. You may want to say, after all,”i will not get into trouble”but have forgotten that trouble may run into youeven, when you are as calm as a bottled nut. Finally i will not deny the fact that uniben halls of residence has its drawbacks and shortcomings but according to economics human make rational choices only when the marginal benefits to be derived is equal to or greater than the marginal cost. So the ball is in your court, you may do anything you may please with it but i will not advise any 100 level to stay off campus. http://unibenreports..in/2015/11/five-reasons-why-you-shouldnt-stay-off.html |
TYPES OF CHRISTIANS A. Progressive Christians. B. Redundant Christians. C. Routine/Norminal Christians. A. Progressive Christians: These type are those that make God proud. He looks at them and smiles, He has a sense of fatherhood in relation with them. They are so sincere, loyal and obedient. Little promptings from the Spirit are like loud commands in their ears. They never argue, or try to play smart. When they ere, they are so humbled and they kneel before Him and say "Father, can I ask for your forgiveness one more time?" B. Redundant Christians: Yes, these are lords in the harvest, while the master is not honoured. Barking out instructions is what they relish most. They are always right, no matter what. They know it all. They feel they are too known to God, hence they can argue and give God conditions. These type mostly have been in church for donkeys of years. They hold key positions in the church. You find them mainly among the church elders, committee members, Pastors, deacons, overseers and bishops. Spiritual pride is intertwined in them. They are hard to convince that their path is crooked. They pray thus "Lord touch this brother there and that sister there, and oh these stiff-necked young ones over there" and little or never for themselves. C. Routine/Norminal Christians: Majority of the church goers fall under this group. They are like "Is it not church? Of course we'ld go!" They are characterised by indifferent attitudes toward God, the word, instructions of leaders and the Holy Spirit. They hardly miss any church service. They are always present, but almost all the time they are perpetual late comers. They hate prayer sections and careless about what God wants. Only when they seem to pray is when they need breakthrough or they in great difficulty. Once the answer is gotten they forget if God ever existed. They are backsitters. Love short sermons and hate evangelism. WHERE DO YOU BELONG?? http://mescopaul..in/2015/11/3-types-of-christians.html |

The publisher of Ovation magazine, Dele Momodu, has released photos of cancer-stricken Nigeria’s former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, in the inaugural issue of a brand new tabloid titled Boss magazine. Last week, Mr. Momodu devoted his weekly column in Thisday newspaper to relating his experience meeting with the seriously sick former minister for an interview in the UK. The column engendered significant controversy on social media, with many readers accusing the columnist cum celebrity publisher of helping to launder Mrs. Alison-Madueke’s image. Some of the column’s critics felt that Mr. Momodu’s brief was to garner public sympathy for the embattled ex-minister, who is the focus of money laundering investigations in the UK as well as Nigeria. Former Nigerian Oil Minister Ovation Magazine/Boss Newspaper Today, Mr. Momodu released the text of an interview with Mrs. Madueke along with photos of the physically ravaged former minister. The shocking photos are a far cry from the ex-minister’s former radiant and energetic persona. However, the release of the former minister’s devastated physique has left many Nigerians on social media still skeptical. Many commentators have speculated that images of her ravaged appearance could have been “photo-shopped” in order to curry public sympathy for a woman who was one of the brashest members of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet. Earlier today, SaharaReporters spoke by phone to Mr. Momodu who was transiting in Dubai, United Arab Emirate, to ask if he was willing to release original copies of Mrs. Alison-Madueke’s photos to our reporter. He said he could not, explaining that he had signed “several” legal agreements never to release the photos to a third party. SaharaReporters was first to exclusively report close to a year ago that Mrs. Alison-Madueke was suffering from cancer and making frequent trips to the UK for treatment. At the time, she was still the most powerful member of Mr. Jonathan’s cabinet. Following one of our reports on her sickness, the then Petroleum Minister issued a statement refuting our report. However, a month ago, her attorney sent a letter to SaharaReporters and other media organizations admitting for the first time that the former powerful Petroleum Minister was undergoing treatment for breast cancer in the UK. In September, the UK National Crimes Agency arrested Mrs. Alison-Madueke in connection with fraud. She was granted bail and has not been charged in any British court. However, UK authorities confiscated some cash from Mrs. Alison-Madueke, her mother, Beatrice Agama, and Melanie Spencer, the wife of Kevin Okyere, a Ghanaian businessman identified as one of the former minister’s alleged co-conspirators. http://saharareporters.com/2015/11/14/photos-cancer-stricken-diezani-alison-madueke-released
