Politics / Lagos Critical To Nigeria's Recovery From Recession- Ambode by metromediaboss: 4:45pm On Nov 22, 2016
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday said the State has a critical role to play in taking Nigeria out of the current economic doldrums, just as he harped on the need for partnership between government and the private sector to address strategic challenges confronting the nation.

Governor Ambode, who spoke at the Lagos House in Ikeja when he received on courtesy visit members of the Governing Council of Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), who came to notify the Governor of the hosting right of the 22nd World Conference of Banking Institute to be held in Lagos in April 2017 and other activities of the Institute, said Lagos, as the economic hub of Nigeria and the West African region, contributes about 70 percent of the financial services in the country, and as such the State was in a good stead to lead the nation out of recession.

The Governor said the visit by the CIBN Council led by its President, Professor Segun Ajibola was apt as it came at a time that Nigeria was undergoing recession, but the cheering news was that the country was abundantly blessed with a group of people that can actually help the country out of recession, to which many of them are members of the Institute.

He, therefore, harped on the need for partnership between the government and the private sector, saying: "This is like a clearing call, we need this partnership to take us out of the doldrums. Irrespective of the fact that Lagos contributes like 70 percent of the financial services in this country and if there is anything that can take us out of recession, it has to start from us and from Lagos."

Besides, Governor Ambode said the story of the growth and development of Lagos could not have been completed without the huge contribution of the financial service industry, adding that the sector remained a veritable vehicle that has been able to drive professionals to contribute to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the State.

According to the Governor, "The financial service industry stands out in terms of creating employment for our people, and in terms of contributing to the taxes, and as well creating capacity, and as such it will be unfair not to appreciate and commend everything that the CIBN has actually done to the growth and development of Lagos."

Speaking on the hosting right of the World Conference, Governor Ambode expressed excitement at the development, and assured that the State Government will partner with CIBN to use the platform to promote investment potentials in the State, as well as celebrate the 50 years anniversary of the creation of Lagos.

"Lagos is going to be 50 next year and President of the Council has talked so much about the hosting right of the conference. As a government, we are also trying to brand Lagos as a world class city to live in, and so we will partner and support the conference and list it as part of the events to celebrate Lagos at 50 and use it as a platform to promote financial tourism for the State.

"Lagos is the financial hub of Nigeria and by extension maybe the West African coast, and the good thing is that the infrastructure we have been able to provide are aimed at allowing businesses to thrive. We are trying our best but the fundamentals remained the fact that the city has to be safe so that businesses can thrive.

The Governor also expressed readiness to partner with CIBN to create a structured capacity building for State officials with the view to getting a stream of hardworking professionals.

Earlier, Ajibola commended Governor Ambode for the massive infrastructure development ongoing in the State, especially the improvement on security, the Light Up Lagos Project, ingenious traffic management strategy in strategic locations across the State such as the Iyana Oworo Lay-by, Ketu-Alapere Slip Road, multifaceted Berger expansion projects, Ojota Pedestrian Bridge; road rehabilitation, Light Rail Project, among others.

"As at today, the banking community is more than happy with the State of security in Lagos State. Our banks are now safer; our ATM locations are safer; we see secured human and properties more than ever before within Lagos and its environs," Ajibola said.

Politics / Lagos Is Home To Those That Dream Big- Ambode by metromediaboss: 3:06pm On Nov 12, 2016
Lagos State Governor Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Friday evening said the State has the capacity and wherewithal to accomodate those who can dream big and realise their potentials to the fullest.

Governor Ambode, who spoke at the unveiling of the Eko Pearl Towers, a 24-storey state-of-the-art residential building, located within the Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island, said the core objectives of his administration was to created an enabling environment for local and foreign investors alike to thrive.

The Governor who called up Chief Executive Officer of Eko Pearl Construction Company, Mr. Elias Saad and Chief Executive Officer, Chagoury Group, Mr. Ronald Chagoury to the stage during his remarks at the occasion, appreciated the duo, saying that they believed in the future of Lagos and did not hesitate to invest.

"Lagos State is looking for dreamers, you are more than a dreamer. What you've done here is nothing but just to inspire the rest of the city of Lagos saying that if we join hands together, we can do it.

"Lagos is the land of opportunities and many investment opportunities abound in transportation, entertainment and tourism. Our commitment is to create an environment where your investments are secure and profitable,” the Governor said.

He said the Eko Atlantic City Project, when completed, would go a long way to create employment and wealth for the people of the State.

The Governor added that aside being a major part of the changing face of Lagos, the project was also one of the most anticipated in the history of Nigeria and Africa.

Describing the unveiling of the Eko Pearl Towers as a remarkable day in the history of Lagos State as the Eko Atlantic City gradually comes to life, Governor Ambode said the structure, in all ramifications, represents the new standard for property development in the State.

“Eko Pearl Towers, the first residential development in Eko Atlantic City, is a set of high-rise buildings, privately owned & developed by the Eko Pearl Construction Company. I am told that the tower is a collection of deluxe two, three bedroom & penthouse type apartments with Sea and Marina views.

As we can see, this is a magnificent pearl by all standards, and the new standard for property development in Lagos State,” Governor Ambode said.

The Governor said his administration was embarking on many urbanisation projects which, when completed would deliver a Lagos that will compete favourably with all the mega city-states of the world which Lagosians can be proud of.

“All these efforts will reposition Lagos State, putting it firmly on the international map as not just the financial, commercial and tourist hub of Africa but also to create employment and wealth for our people”.

While congratulating the management of the Eko Atlantic City on the landmark achievement, Governor Ambode said the project was a clear example of the successful Public Private Partnership (PPP) between the State Government and the developer of project.

Governor Ambode seized the occasion to also call on other investors to take a cue from the management of the Eko Atlantic City and Eko Pearl and put their resources in the State, saying that Government was committed to creating an enabling environment for their businesses to thrive.

Earlier, Chief Executive Officer of Eko Pearl Construction Company, Mr. Elias Saad, thanked the Lagos State Government for their support in helping him actualise his dream.

He said that the Eko Pearl Towers, also known as the Black Pearl Towers, was a residential high rise building located in the center of Eko Atlantic City, adding that the White Pearl Tower under construction would also be ready by next year.

''People call me the dreamer, I'm so happy that I was able to actualise my dream in Lagos by delivering the Eko Pearl Towers like I promised", Saad said.

Politics / No More Environmental Sanitations In Lagos State- Court by metromediaboss: 1:40pm On Nov 08, 2016
The Appeal Court in Lagos has nullified the monthly environmental sanitation in Lagos State, saying it is illegal and ordered the Lagos State Government not to restrict people’s movement on that day.

The court which delivered its judgment at the weekend banned the state government from further restricting anyone’s movement within Lagos State at any time or day whatsoever on the basis of environmental sanitation as there is no written law to that effect.

Justice Ugochukwu Ogakwu of the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division held that in the absence of a written law prescribing the same, the governor’s directive for people in Lagos State to stay at home and not to move about thereby restricting movement of persons in Lagos State within the hours of 7.00am to 10.00am on the last Saturday of every month was unlawful, illegal and unconstitutional.

The suit was brought before the court by a citizen, Faith Okafor (Appellant) against the Lagos State Government (Respondent).

The court restrained the Lagos State Government and its affiliates from further arresting the
anyone whatsoever on the basis of a purported environmental sanitation offence or trying anyone in the Special Offences Court without conforming to the dictates of the Constitution.

According to Justice Ogakwu, after due consideration of this appeal and the issues raised therein, “I have arrived at the inexorable conclusion that the appeal is meritorious. The same succeeds and is allowed by me. The Ruling of the lower court in Suit No. M/548/2013: FAITH OKAFOR vs. LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT & ANOR. delivered on 1st July 2014 is hereby set aside.

“In its stead and for good order sake, judgment is hereby entered for the Appellant against the Respondents in the following terms: It is hereby declared that the arrest and detention and transportation of the Appellant in the back of a vehicle which is of a metal cage with very little ventilation and light “Black Maria” by officials and/or agents of the 1st Respondent (KAI Brigade) on 25th May 2013 for a purported environmental sanitation offence violates the Appellant’s fundamental rights to respect for the dignity of her person, personal liberty and freedom of movement as provided under Sections 34, 35 and 41 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, and is therefore illegal and unconstitutional.”
Justice Ogakwu declared that the purported trial and conviction of the Appellant for a purported environmental sanitation offence violates the Appellant’s fundamental rights to fair hearing as provided under Section 36 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, and is therefore unlawful, illegal and unconstitutional.

The court further declared that in the absence of a written law prescribing the same, the 1st Respondent’s directive for people in Lagos State to stay at home and not to move about thereby restricting movement of persons in Lagos State within the hours of 7.00am to 10.00am on the last Saturday of every month is unlawful, illegal and unconstitutional.

4. The Respondents are hereby restrained from further restricting the Appellant’s or anyone’s movement within Lagos State at any time or day whatsoever on the basis of environmental sanitation without there being a written law prescribing the same.

“The Respondents are restrained from further arresting the Appellant or anyone whatsoever on the basis of a purported environmental sanitation offence or trying anyone in the Special Offences Court without conforming to the dictates of the Constitution. The Appellant is entitled to the costs of this appeal which I assess and fix at N100, 000.00,” he ruled.

Politics / I Will Treat All Nigerians Equitably - Buhari by metromediaboss: 9:50pm On Nov 03, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari says he will keep faith with the oath of office he swore, and treat all Nigerians equitably. Receiving the Executive Committee Members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) from 19 Northern States and Abuja, at State House, Thursday, the President equally pledged to restore peace to all parts of the country, noting: “Restoring peace is a top priority.

We will enable the law enforcement agencies to combat all forms of violent crimes, and ensure that our people live in peace.”

BUHARI WITH CAN excoCAN and Buhari
President Buhari urged the clerics to promote religious harmony, by “enhancing understanding among different faiths.”

He also disclosed that the government would maintain the priority it has placed on agriculture and mines and steel development, “to kick-start the economy.”

The Chairman of CAN in the 19 Northern States and Abuja, Rev. Yakubu Pam, said it was not a mistake that God chose President Buhari to lead the country at these challenging times.

“We are ready to support your administration to deliver good governance. You have good intentions for Nigeria, judging from the programs that have been outlined,” Rev. Pam said.
He also highlighted ethnoreligious challenges in the country, freedom of worship, and herdsmen/farmers’ clashes in their discussion with the President.

The CAN leader commended the Buhari administration for the blow dealt Boko Haram insurgents, “leading to comparative peace in the North-east,” the return of 21 abducted schoolgirls from Chibok, and the anti-corruption war, which he urged “should be fought to the logical conclusion.”

Politics / Obasanjo Places Order For Size 42 Made-in-aba Shoes by metromediaboss: 8:16pm On Oct 29, 2016
Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president of Nigeria, has placed an order for made-in-Aba shoes.

Chief Obasanjo made the order through the chief marketing officer of made-in-Aba products, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu during the 2016 Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Forum in Lagos.

While making his speech at the event, the Abia State governor stated that Aba remains the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) capital of Nigeria, where young Nigerians are engaged in the business of making of shoes, clothing and other products.

The governor added that a firm that has an order to supply up to 50,000 military boots is currently in Aba, where Aba shoemakers are making the production.

“I am happy to announce here that Aba which is the commercial nerve centre of the Abia State and Old Eastern Region of Nigeria, is also the SME capital of Nigeria, where young people are in the business of making shoes, bags and clothes, including the one I am wearing.

“Let me also announce here that a private firm, that has an order to supply 50,000 military boots is currently in Aba, where our shoemakers are in production for the firm”

Speaking as one of the panelist at the forum, Obasanjo said to Governor Ikpeazu: “Governor, I listened to you and I commend you for what you’re doing in Abia. Please keep doing what you’ve told us you’re doing. So, Governor of Abia State, you have to send a pair of the shoes to me, I use size 42.”

Celebrities / Kaffy Is Seeking Attention-davido's Manager by metromediaboss: 8:09pm On Oct 29, 2016
Kaffy had earlier taken to social media to insult Davido over sacking his dance crew who she claimed had put in a huge amount of time to see that his performance was a success. After much ranting, OBO kept mute and Kaffy apologized for her action.

However, Davido’s manager, Kamal Ajiboye, has spoken out calling Kaffy an attention seeker.

In an interview , Ajiboye had a lot of things to say;

“I am not aware of any problem between Davido and Kaffy,” he said. “Davido said that he didn’t need dancers for his performance and I don’t see how that is a problem. We saw what she posted online but we chose to ignore it because we are too busy to comment on such.

“Davido does not have any particular dancer that he works with. During the particular show, while he was about to perform, the organisers wanted to include dancers with his performance and he declined because the stage would not be big enough for him and the dancers to perform. I don’t know how that should be anybody’s problem.

“During a show that he had at Eko Hotel, he had about 30 dancers on stage with him. If he does not have regard for dancers, would he have employed their services? People just like to seek for attention and we would not give it to them.

“The only thing I can think of is that she is just seeking for attention. I mean they wanted to put dancers on his stage and all Davido said was that he did not want. How is that anyone’s problem? I think you should call Kaffy and ask if she has any problem with Davido.”

Should Kaffy respond after giving a full time apology?, let’s watch and see.
