The Police Special Fraud Unit has declared Commissioner for Special Duties in Anambra State, Vincent Ezenwajiaku, wanted for fraudulent activities. The SFU said the commissioner allegedly obtained N10.5m under false pretence about 10 years ago. Police also added that repeated efforts to get the commissioner to honour police invitation have been unsuccessful. His surety, one Mr. Obi Okwudili, had also been arrested by the unit for his inability to produce the suspect. A statement by the SFU Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ngozi Isintume-Agu said, “A petition to the Commissioner of Police, Special Fraud Unit, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin, alleged that sometime between 1996 and 2002, Ezenwajiaku, being the Managing Director of BIO Plastic Ltd, had invited the complainant to invest in his company as a co-Director. “This was to enable the complainant acquire 34 per cent equity at the end of the investment.” The complainant was said to have subsequently paid N10,582,540.00 in installments after receiving reports from Ezenwajiaku, which indicated the huge potential of the company, the expected turnover and the profit. However, a belated check with the Corporate Affairs Commission by the complainant later revealed that he had invested in a non-existent company as it was not registered with the commission. The statement read in part, “In the course of investigation, detectives from the unit, travelled to Anambra State with an invitation letter which was duly served on the suspect. “Ezenwajiaku was expected to report to SFU on April 16, 2013, but he did not honour the invitation. “On August 4, 2013, detectives went to Awka with a warrant of arrest which Ezenwajiaku resisted. “Instead, he maintained that he must see the governor of the state or the commissioner of police in the state. “Ezenwajiaku was later taken to State Criminal Investigation Department at Anambra, where he made cautionary statement.” He was said to have been subsequently released on bail to Okwudili who promised in writing to produce Ezenwajiaku on August 15 2013. On the said date, Okwudili was said to have failed to produce Ezenwajiaku. As a result, Okwudili was later arrested and would soon be charged to court for offence of “surety to show cause.” The statement added, “The Commissioner of Police, Special Fraud Unit has declared Vincent Ezenwajiaku wanted. “Anybody with useful information on how to arrest him or his whereabouts, should contact the Commissioner of Police, Special Fraud Unit, 13, Milverton Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.” http://metronaija.com/anambra-commissioner-declared-wanted-fraud/

Six persons including a pregnant mother were on Thursday night reportedly attacked and killed in Bisichi, along Foron road in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. The five men and one woman were said to be returning from a local market in Bukuru, Jos South LGA where they had gone to sell their farm produce. The transitional chairman of Barkin Ladi, Emmanuel Loham, in an interview with newsmen, confirmed the attack, and revealed that the victims were attacked by gunmen around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in Bisichi Village. “Two of the victims were from Bwara and one from Kakpwis in Foron District while three including a pregnant woman was from Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area,” he said. However, the police spokesperson in the state, Felicia Anslem, when contacted denied any knowledge of the incident but said the police will conduct an investigation on the matter. The council chairman, Mr. Loham, described the attack as “barbaric and sad,” noting that it came at a time when relative peace was gradually returning to the area. Barkinladi and environs have experienced their fair share of insecurity since the civil unrest started in Plateau State more than12 years ago. Mr. Loham appealed to residents of the area to remain calm as security agencies are on the trail of the suspects. He, however, pointed an accusing finger at Fulani herdsmen in the area. The attack came a few days after a peace meeting among ethnic groups from Plateau North on the way to permanent peace. Also a federal lawmaker representing Plateau North, Gyang Pwajok, recently concluded a tour of the six council areas including Barkinladi, where he praised the efforts of the authorities in maintaining peace. http://metronaija.com/gunmen-kill-six-including-pregnant-woman-plateau-official/ |
Road accidents in Nigeria have claimed a total of 322,427 lives between 1960 and 2012, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in its 2012 annual report released recently. Analysts however say the number of deaths may be more than the given figure since most people involved in road accidents die weeks after and such deaths may not have been recorded officially. Information exclusively gathered by BusinessDay from the FRSC dashboard reveals that speed violation accounts for 35 percent, as the highest causative factor of road traffic crashes. The second highest causative factor is loss of control that accounts for 17 percent, even as dangerous driving occupied the third causative factor at 17 percent. The FRSC lists the most causes of road crashes to include human, mechanical and environmental factors. Bad roads, route violation and obstruction accounted for 2 percent each, while burst tyres 9 percent. Others are brake failure 5 percent, mechanically faults and wrongful overtaking tied on 3 percent in the top 10 probable causative factors of road traffic crashes in 2012. Between 1960 and 2012, a total of 1,060,507 crashes were recorded in Nigeria, with 322,427 deaths and 1,016,299 injuries. 2012 alone had a total of 4,260 reported deaths on Nigerian roads, representing an average of 12 persons dying daily. 20,752 injuries were recorded in the year, translating to an average of 57 injuries daily. Hence, on the average, 69 persons were either injured or killed on the roads daily, while 48,114 persons were involved in 6,269 documented cases. This means on the average of one hour, approximately one crash occurred on the road and 5.5, that is 6 persons, were involved in a crash within an hour. In the reviewed period, Nigeria had five deaths per 10,000 vehicles and four deaths per 100,000 persons, according to the report from FRSC. Analysts say these figures are still very high, hence unacceptable. Both the elite and the powerful as well as the common man are not spared in these preventable deaths. Many of these preventable accidents, unnecessary loss of lives and avoidable waste of resources, in terms of damaged vehicles, expenses on hospitalisation bills, repairs of damaged roads and infrastructure, as well as loss of man-hours, actually occurred during the last quarter of the year. http://metronaija.com/road-accidents-claim-322427-lives-nigeria-52-years/ |

Nigerian Islamists on Monday attacked Bama, a town in Borno State killing 14 pro-government youth vigilantes and injuring nine others, a local official who attended a mass funeral for the victims has said. Reuters reported that Sunday’s attack was one of the spates of deadly assaults by the Boko Haram Islamist sect this month that raises doubts about whether a military offensive against it since May can succeed. Local vigilante groups run by youth volunteers have been instrumental in helping the military capture Boko Haram members, but they have also made thema target for the insurgents, drawing civilians further into the conflict. The Chairman, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, Alhaji Baba Shehu Gulumba, told journalists in Bama, near Maiduguri, the Borno State capital that the insurgents disguised as soldiers and lured the youths into a trap. “They were on guard duty when the sect members dressed in military camouflage came and told them that they were needed at a meeting nearby. When they had been lured away from their duty posts they were then attacked and killed,” he added. www.metronaija.com/boko-haram-kill-14-in-monday-attacks/ |

Prophet Ajanaku Died In His Sleep Of Drug Overdose: How Church Members Engaged In Prayer For His Resurrection Details surrounding the sudden death of Prophet Elijah Ola Ajanaku, the former spiritual father and pastor of Nigerian gospel singer Tope Alabi have been released. The founder and pastor in charge of the Christ Revival Church International located in Baruwa in Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area, Lagos, died in his sleep on Saturday August 17, 2013. We learnt the controversial prophet died in his sleep on Saturday after a nurse administered sedatives to calm down his nerves after his situation got worse. He reportedly didn’t wake up from his sleep. His dead body was brought into his house in Lagos from his hometown (Gbogan) on Sunday evening. According to sources, the elegance preacher reportedly fell ill about 8 weeks ago and after all medical methods to get him well proved abortive, he was taken to his home town for traditional treatment. Throughout his downtime, his church members were told he’d travelled abroad to rest not knowing he has been taken to his hometown. This was the reason for his absence at the church’s anniversary on the 18th of July, 2013. During the church service yesterday, most of his church members didn’t believe he has died. Most of them argued that he could not have died, insisting that he travelled abroad to restdue to his hectic schedules. According to reliable source, some of his church members were hostile to our correspondent who visited the church to confirm this report.. Late Prophet Ajanaku’s corpse was taken to a local mortuary around 11am this morning. A member of the congregation was seen directing another member to arrange for security personnel to accompany the corpse to the mortuary. As at the time our correspondent left the premises this morning, church members who trooped to the home of the man they called ‘Daddy’, were directed to report at the churchat Baruwa while the top leaders of the church were planning to take the corpse to the mortuary. Late Prophet Ajanaku became popular after his association with gospel singer Tope Alabi. The two split over sex allegations few weeks before his death. Tope Alabi who is currently in Toronto, Ontario Canada was one of the earliest callers at the residence of the deceased on Sunday. In another development a neigbhour to late Prophet Ajanaku said his followers believe he’ll come back to life. As a result, several prayer sessions have been held since he died. “He died since Saturday, but the church members have decided to keep sealed lips.Instead, they have engaged in marathon prayer sessions. They held a vigil on Saturdaywhere they prayed fervently for him to resurrect, but nothing happened. “The church members were shouting: ‘Prophet Ajanaku, wake up’ throughout Saturday night,”Mrs. Rita Ade said. Unknown to the public, Late Prophet Ajanaku was arrested and detained few months ago by security officials after an embarrassing public fight with Tope Alabi. Weeks after his arrest, he reportedly fell ill and the rest in history. Tope Alabi’s husband responded to the allegation thus:“this trouble started when we stopped attending Prophet Ajanaku’s church because he was beginning to see himself as agod in our lives. “All he has said to the media are bunch of lies, just to look for a way to bring us down. I know there is a God in heaven who will judge everything we do on earth and reward all of us accordingly. “I intentionally told my wife not to say anything and leave God to judge everything but I am using this medium to tell everyone out there that Tope Alabi never asked ProphetAjanaku to sleep with her.” Late Prophet Ajanaku was a muslim man witha solid Islamic background. He converted to Christianity on arriving Lagos few years back. According to his profile, the late preacher tagged Bad boy for satan was denied access to basic education. Mark Zuckerberg got his Facebook wall hacked today, in a move that surprised and embarrassed the company today. Now if only somebody could do this to Google. Here is how the Telegraph reported it: Khalil Shreateh, a systems information expert from Palestine, attempted to report the vulnerability to Facebook’s security team twice, demonstrating that the glitch was real by posting an Enrique Iglesias video on the wall of one of Zuckerberg’s college friends, Sarah Goodin, with whom he was not connected. However, Facebook dismissed his warnings, claiming that the issue “was not a bug”, as only Goodin’s friends were able to see the poston her wall. Frustrated, Shreateh decided to use the glitch to hack into Mark Zuckerberg’s profile page. Ina post which has since been removed, he apologised for breaking Zuckerberg’s privacy, adding: “I had no other choice… after all the reports I sent to Facebook team”. In less than a minute, Shreateh’s Facebook account was suspended and he was contacted by a Facebook security engineer requesting all the details of the exploit. “Unfortunately your report to our Whitehat system did not have enough technical information for us to take action on it,” the engineer wrote in an email. “We cannot respond to reports which do not contain enough detail to allow us to reproduce an issue.” Facebook has a policy that it will pay a minimum $500 bounty for any security flaws that a hacker finds. However, the company hasrefused to pay Shreateh for discovering the vulnerability because his actions violated Facebook’s Terms of Service. In a Hacker News thread, Matt Jones from Facebook’s security team confirmed that the bug has now been fixed, admitting that the company should have asked more details afterShreateh’s initial report. “We get hundreds of reports every day. Many of our best reports come from people whose English isn’t great – though this can be challenging, it’s something we work with just fine and we have paid out over $1 million to hundreds of reporters,” he said. “However, many of the reports we get are nonsense or misguided, and even those (if youenter a password then view-source, you can access the password! When you submit a password, it’s sent in the clear over HTTPS!) provide some modicum of reproduction instructions. We should have pushed back asking for more details here.” www.metronaija.com/mark-zuckerberg-gets-his-facebook-profile-hacked/

The presidency on Sunday applauded NOI polls, Nigeria's leading opinion poll and research organisation over the governance polls it released recently in which about 53 per cent of Nigerian rated President Goodluck Jonathan's performance high especially on power, saying Nigerians should expect more power supply at the end of next month and uninterrupted power supply by the end of 2014. The summary of the survey carried out by the organisation for the month of July 2013 had indicated that 53 percent of Nigerians sampled in the exercise were satisfied with the President's performance, with majority of respondents attributing the high approval rating to improvement in power supply across the country. To this effect, the presidency said Nigerians should expect a boom in power supply by September ending. "It is expected that by the time most of the hydro power dams which are currently been rehabilitated also resume operations by the end of September 2013,most Nigerian cities will have more hours of power supply from the National grid and this will undoubtedly improve social and economic activities, increase industrial productions and create jobs for young Nigerians," Dr. Doyin Okupe, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs promised at a press conference yesterday. The implication of this and other reforms, Okupe added, "is that without any doubt, before the end of 2014,Nigerians' long held dreamof joining the worlds list of countries with uninterrupted powersupply will be closer in reality than it has ever been. Explaining why the administration achieved so much in the power sector, He said, "The present power improvement noticed and acknowledged in some parts of thecountry is due partly to measures put in place by government to reduce points of leakages and transmission failure as well as improve transmission capacity of power infrastructure. www.metronaija.com/expect-power-supply-boom-by-september-ending-presidency/ |

Unknown gunmen shot and killed a worker with the Odogunyan Undertaken Office of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), identified as Samson Onabanjo (34) on Thursday night. A 100 level Accounting Student of Ladoke Akintola University has been murdered and used for ritual purposes by her boy friend who has absconded. According to the narration below by one of her friends and room mate, Seun visited her boy friend a fellow student last Sunday only for her mutilated body to be found three days later. This is the unedited story as narrated by her friend Oluwaseun Adaramoye, until her death was an undergraduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Lautech. Seun left her hostel last week Sunday to visit her boyfriend and that was the last time she was seen alive. Ngozi her friend explains how Seun left them that evening to her boyfriend’s place while they were all chatting. “Seun Adaramoye was an 100 level accounting student, she stayed in Stadium area around Lawyer Ahmed Junction, she’s a hostel mate and also my friend. On Sunday evening (16th of June), we were all gisting outside the hostel as we normally do and around 5pm, Seun just said she’s coming and left. She was on casual outfits like all of us, so we thought she had gone to the junction to buy stuffs but she went to her best friend’s place not far from the hostel. “When Seun was leaving her best friend’s apartment, she told her that she wants to quickly get to her boyfriend’s place in Oke-Anu around 7pm on that same Sunday evening and that was the last time we both saw Seun. “We didn’t even notice on time that she hasn’t returned because she’s a female and no one can monitor a grown lady, so we assumed that she should be with her boyfriend Lanre (REAL NAME) not until wednesday morning when Seun refused to show up, Her friend came to check on her in the hostel and it was then that she informed us that Seun was nowhere to be found, we searched and searched for Seun but all to no avail. On Thursday morning, we decided to report her disappearance to the school authorities, that was when we heard the news of a dead body which was discovered at the back of Jastok Guest House… On getting there, we couldn’t identify the body because several parts of her body had been cut off, her breast, one hand, half her head was gone. We were eventually able to recognise Seun by her hairdo and mark on her leg, her birth mark and the remains of her cloth on the body. So the police and the SUG were invited and they went after the boyfriend who had obviously absconded, so he has not been arrested as been speculated but his best friend was arrested. People thought he was arrested because of the search and the arrest of his best friend but he hasn’t been found till now, he’s gone into exile…On Searching Lanre’s house, the police found mysterious things like Calabash, Ladies Bra, Panties, Nails and several underwears. Our friend Seun was NEVER a runs girl, she was a very gentle and loving soul, and she was just unlucky to have fallen a victim of some desperate souls. She has since been buried by her brother here in Ogbomosho because the body was already decaying with worms all over and moreover it’s an uncompleted body and they won’t bury her like that in her hometown” www.metronaija.com/photos-female-student-used-for-rituals-by-boyfriend/

Mohammed Abubakar, the Inspector General of Police has stated that he would not run a corrupt police system. The IGP was reacting to criticisms from several quarters considering the dismissal of a police officer who was caught receiving a bribe in Lagos as too harsh. Abubakar said this today at the State House during a visit to President Goodluck Jonathan to mark this year’s Sallah celebration. He maintained that his tenure will not condone any act of indiscipline. He said: “You can see that we are information technology compliant. We know what is happening in the YouTube, we know what is happening all over the world. And because we believe that we have to do what is right, we warn our officers and men, sometimes we set them up to ensure that we get them on the act. And so who is caught on the act is being dismissed.” “There is a process that is going on. If the man that was present where corruption has taken place is willing and ready to come and give evidence in court, he would be charged to court,” he added. www.metronaija.com/bribery-we-often-set-our-officers-up-police-ig-speaks-on-policemans-dismissal/ |

The Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii has disclosedthat over 194,000 Nigerian children under the age of five die annually as a result of diarrhoea. The DG who stated this in Makurdi, Benue state on Wednesday at the 2013 World Breastfeeding day, said this was a wake-up call to Nigerian mothers to ensure that their babies were properly breast-fed in their formative years in order to avert avoidable deaths among children in the country. Orhii noted that the alarming rate of infant mortality caused by diarrhoea can be avertedwhen children are properly breast-fed for two years because it helps them develop immunity against such diseases. “Breast milk has the additional advantage of containing anti-bodies that protect the baby against many common childhood illnesses” he said “It is always in the right temperature. Costs nothing and nearly every mother has more than enough for her baby. It also protects themother’s health by preventing bleeding, enables the uterus to return to normal size after delivery and prevents general and breast cancers.” In her address, the wife of the Benue state Governor, Mrs. Yemisi Suswam, represented by the Managing Director of the Lower BenueRiver Basin Development Authority, Mrs. Ada Chenge, urged mothers to take the issue of breastfeeding as a priority in order to safeguard the health of their children, mothers and the state in general. www.metronaija.com/over-194-000-children-die-annually-from-diarrhoea-nafdac/ |
