The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is conducting outstanding legislative re-run elections in Kogi East Senatorial District, today, Metronaija reports. The election in Kogi is, however, like a walk-over for the PDP as the APC candidate who was the hottest contender in the inconclusive election had been barred from further participating in today’s final exercise by the electoral commission. The Kogi election had been filled with lots of intrigues across party lines. While INEC has stopped the APC from presenting a candidate for the election, the PDP has had to substitute its flagbearer following a court judgement which disqualified the candidate initially fielded by the party. INEC had officially recognized retired Air Vice Marshal Isaac Alfa, as the authentic PDP candidate in the Kogi East Senatorial re-run election and not Sen. Attai Idoko earlier presented by the party. Appeal Court had earlier nullified the election of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mohammed Salami Ohiare and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct fresh election in respect of the Kogi Central Senatorial District without the participation of Mohammed Ohiare. The decision of the Appellant Court was informed by the dissenting judgement delivered by the Tribunal. The dissenting judgment at the Tribunal held that Mohammed Ohiare was not qualified in the election and that his election was void and null and therefore ordered a fresh election without his participation by virtue of section 140(1) and (2) of the electoral act. The Appeal Court ordered INEC to therefore conduct a fresh election without Mohammed. Ohiare participation within 90days. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/07/kogi-rerun-inec-conducts-senatorial.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |
The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa at plenary on Monday, July 18, 2016, led other members of the House to condemn the assault on Senator Oluremi Tinubu by Senator Dino Melaye at the Senate hallowed Chamber last week, describing the action as unfortunate and unethical for a distinguished Senator of the country. The condemnation of the members was sequel to a motion moved by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Wasiu Eshilokun Sanni requesting the Assembly to formally write to the National Secretariat of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for disciplinary action against the erring senator. Earlier, a group of human rights activist under the umbrella of Concerned Group of Lagos had earlier staged a protest to the Assembly decrying the shameful action of the Senator and seeking justice for Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The spokesperson for the group, Mrs. Eunice Ogunleye stated that Senator Melaye has exhibited misconduct and brought shame to the senate through his actions while the entire womenfolk of the country sees his actions as an affront against them. Mrs. Ogunleye however requested that Senator Melaye should tender unreserved public apology on the floor of the hallowed chamber of the senate, especially to the person of Senator Tinubu and to Nigeria as a whole due to his misconduct. The Majority leader, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade while contributing stated that ‘Dino Malaye action is deliberate not only against Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his wife but everybody that believe in Asiwaju’s politics and leadership and therefore should be called to order. Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu stated that his utterances shows that he has disdain for women, urging the Senate to activate disciplinary action that will forestall and curb future occurrence related to this shameful act. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/07/photos-remi-tinubu-protesters-meet-gov.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44
