Raider76: Can someone please explain the justification for the markdown of stock prices following dividend payment. It doesn't make sense to me. The dividend paid to shareholders is their share of the profit made over a previous period. It should have nothing to do with the market price of the stock. By marking down the stock price you are taking away the profit earned from the capital gain making the shareholder to gain nothing. Am I missing something somewhere? So in a nutshell, you are of the opinion that shareholders MUST share in dividend income and capital appreciation |

USAfall2024: Good strategy. But the 10% WHT (withholding tax) will probably be lesser than your brokerage fee. Let’s say your brokerage fee on a #20 stock is 3% (cumulative to sell and re-buy). You lose #0.6 on going for such round trip. Whereas same #20 stock has a 10% dividend yield of #2 so your 10% WHT will be #0.2 per share. At the end, what you’re running from in WHT will still catch you via brokerage fees. Except the stock depreciates considerably after dividend payments (like your UCAP and Access examples) but that’s not a certainty (e.g Zenith is yet to depreciate post-dividend payment). You are on point! but he doesn't see it this way. He is looking at increasing his holding from selling higher! |

vacanci: me this was what i did.
1. instead of N1.8 dividend of access bank, i sold all my holding before qualification date for N23, entered with all the money again at N17. My own dividend compounded directly was N6 (23-17). My total shares increased tremedously
2. UCAP, i sold before qualification at N22.5 to jump the N1.8 dividend. used all the money and entered at N16.8. Dividend compounded was N5.7 (22.5 - 16.8 )
the above was possible because those stocks did not recover immediately as some might do. sometimes this thing na luck. i just took my chance.
e get one wey i don sell all too and waiting at the point of entry, that one done drop 25%, i am waiting for just 5% drop and i am good to go.
I hardly chop dividend directly. i no like that 10% withholding from my proceed.
I go drink beer next year it's always luck with this strategy! I know it's Uba that you are not lucky to grab |

toyeoye: The CBN instructed banks to implement a 0.5% cybersecurity levy on certain transactions, including to asset management firms. In the coming weeks, if one makes a bank transfer for a N5M investment to any stock brokerage firm , about 25K will be charged and your broker will still chop 4%. This is not good at all... So after paying 10% WHT on dividend, when we transfer same funds to our Stock brokerage account, we pay stamp duty + 0.5% again for it to be credited to our online account before we can invest the money! This is very bad! |

Objectivist04: They are the registrar, I am talking about Fbnh here
After I did my intermember transfer Morgan told me that they can't find anything and that I have to do Demat and you know that registrar handle issues concerning Demat.
I stated it clearly in my post Get a copy of your CSCS statement from meristem to confirm your actual Holdings. or you talk to Meristem broker and run it with them. I try to move my shares from a dead broker to Morgan capital and I had this back and forth you are experiencing. so I had to run it with meristem broker since my dead broker has up with meristem |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Mfunkynation(m): 2:39pm On Apr 27, 2024 |
Objectivist04: Pls I need to report Morgan capital, somebody should help me on how to go about it.
This is what happened. I opened account with Morgan capital, after the account opening I requested to move my shares from a dead house to my new account.
They asked me to apply for intermember transfer, the forms and other requirements were sent to me via email.
I printed out the forms, filled them, write the letter that was addressed CSCS, went to the bank fto get my account confirmation , attached my proof of ownership and sent them through LIBRA courier services.
A staff called me and informed me that they couldn't find any share in my CSCS account and that he suspects that my shares have been sold. I told him that my shares are not sold, that I do receive my dividend as at when due ..
Then he suggested that we go for Demat, he sent me the forms which I printed out but he told me to only append my signatures where necessary attach my passport and send,
I did as he said and seny the forms through ifex courier
Weeks letter after constant call from me, he informed me that my shares have been successfully linked to my account. He said that he has 3905 units of Fbnh with him. I told him that all the shares were not linked as my total holding is 18045 , the man now directed me to Meristern registrar.
I called Meristern and they told me that is all they can find, I went ahead to show them where they once sent me my total holding on enquiry and they said let them do more search. After disturbing them with calls, they told me that they have seen another 3905, and that l need to do another Demat so it can be linked,
I was so angry and frustrated, my broker asked me to demand for my transaction history from them which I did, lol and behold the response I got from them shows that I have outstanding 18045 units of Fbnh.
I was confused what is the problem, since Meristern have confirmed my holding, why not do the needful , infact they refuse picking my calls because I was calling everyday out of desperation as Fbnh price was galloping and I need to sell and at least make a little profit from 17 years old investment.
Then what broke the camel's back was earlier this week when my broker sent me a message via WhatsApp, informing me that my remaining shares (14140) are with Transglobe.
Well, the information sounds stupid to me because that shouldn't be a news , since I informed him earlier that my former broker is Transglobe, a dead house.
To make things even worse, the man told me that I did not inform him about Transglobe and that if I had done that, he wouldnt have done global search but rather asked for my CSCS acc statement from Transglobe and then go for intermember transfer to move my account to Morgan capital.
I was so shocked by the above statement because (1) I informed him about having my stock with Transglobe (2). I did intermember transfer which he himself recommend to me via email. (3) he never spoke anything to me about global search, so I was surprised when he said he did global search.
I started flooding his WhatsApp with proofs that he was aware that Transglobe was my former broker, I also posted the forms I filled for my intermember which he claimed I didn't do. After the evidence becomes overwhelming, dude stopped responding to me, nor pick my calls. from what you have said, your initial broker was transglobal and you are trying to move from transglobal to Morgan capital. why is meristem coming in? |

Streetinvestor2: NB is the best thing that ever happened to champion. And NB is pulling out because of this things you mentioned here. The majority in the 14% in champion are not allowing champion to breath and are ok with it remaining local champion because they see it as thr birth right and not a plc. This is what NB has struggled to over come after bringing the company back to life. And this was what killed champion in the first place. Champion is a local champion and will remain so if that birth right, our state property, our management decision and position must stand mentality doesn't change...this is why NB is leaving after heavy investment. I will not touch champion now that NB is leaving till the new owners come and able to wristle the gods of the land from champion. The gods of the land don't know what is percentage in the ownership structure of champion. All they know is they own champion as has been passed on to them by politicians and elders. It is you and I that know percentage in ownership.
This is why I like the name imo. This new guys have they been in brewery business or just guys with cash and have people like imo as friends.
Won't talk about champion again. NB pulling out for now to what I know is a red flag. I follow be insider for that company as I like the tiger nut malt which was out of stock during Easter As an Akwa Ibom guy, I don't like how to talk about my state own property like that. Will you sell your birth right out just to be a boy in your birth right? |
