Nairaland / General / Owo Catholic Church: ‘Christians Could Attack Too’ – OAP Michael Effiong by michaelfix(m): 2:41pm On Jun 06, 2022
https://dailyreportng.com/owo-catholic-church-christians-could-attack-too-oap-micheal-effiong/

Delta-based broadcaster, Michael Effiong, popularly known as Egbegba, has lamented the recent spate of terrorist attacks in the country.
Effiong, who particularly decried Sunday’s attack on the St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, raised concerns that Christians could be forced to resort to self-defense or attack too.
He argued that the time for Christians to just pray has long passed, as prayers will not save the country from the current insecurity bedevilling it.
Effiong urged the Nigerian government to borrow a leaf from countries from the West, who face the terrorism with full force.

In a post titled “Ondo Church Gun Shooting,” the media personality said;

“We in the media know how this thing will end. Nothing new. The government will tell you that they are in shock, mourning the dead, condole with the families of those affected, and it will end there.

“A few days ago the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) called for prayers and protest in their secretariats in reaction to the killing of Deborah Samuel by some Muslim extremists.

“What happened next? These extremists entered the streets in a rugged protest and attacked buildings and people because of the arrest of the suspected killers.

Just a few days ago, these extremists killed a fellow Muslim for blasphemy. Burnt the man alive, that man could be anybody relative.

“Do you think prayers alone would stop these extremists? If your answer is yes, then you need a section in Warri General Hospital to check your mental state, and I will pay for it.

“There is madness in all of us, just that some of us have been controlling ours. Christians could go mad too, and Christians could attack too.

“Christians could shoot too. Christians aren’t weaklings. Don’t tell me to pray. I won’t pray. Americans, the UK, and others don’t fight terrorists by prayers alone, they retaliate by attacking with full force.”

Nairaland / General / Enerhen Junction Is Now A Shadow Of Itself -- OAP Michael Effiong by michaelfix(m): 9:17am On Feb 11, 2022
Delta's media personality, Michael Effiong has joined his voice with that of other Deltans to complain about the developmental state of Delta State. The Kpoko FM presenter compare the look of the popular Enerhen junction in 2013 to its ugly state in 2022.
He wrote this via his Facebook page;

Rare photos of Enerhen Junction in 2013. The place wasn't just beautiful, but it was safe. I remember a friend of mine telling him that his elder brother had been constituted into a committee that would manage security in the area. If you messed up, you will be dealt with.
The level of orderliness in this junction was topnotch. The nighttime view wasn't just beautiful but was safe. The remodeling done by the then governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan paid off. Today, the junction is a shadow of itself. At night, it is something else, with "young Olosho" doing their things.

The irony is that this state has been governed by the same political party and people who have worked for each other's administrations. Uduaghan and Ifeanyi Okowa served under James Ibori's administration as SSG and Commissioner respectively, while Okowa was an SSG during Uduaghan's tenure, but today, e just be like sey na different parties na dey rule since 1999.
Government is continuous, same with development. Development on its own should be sustainable and innovative.
We can do better in Delta State. One big heart abi finger of God e be na. Let development lead.

Politics / My Political Experience In ESUT -- OAP Michael Effiong. by michaelfix(m): 9:06am On Feb 11, 2022
Media personality, Michael Effiong shared a political experience he witnessed in his university days. The Kpoko FM presenter shared how his friend lost out in a political battle while in school.
He wrote this via his Facebook page;

JUST A LITTLE POLITICAL STORY.

In my university days (ESUT, Enugu), there was this friend of mine who always bragged about being a senator. He sometimes calls himself Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Frank, was representing one of the departments in Environmental Sciences as a senator, and he was dedicated and diligent, but something happened that changed his view about politics.

In one of their numerous sittings, the SUG President brought a proposal that stretched to a million naira. The reason for the project for the money didn't go well with the senators and they raised their voices as they rejected the proposal. More than 80% of the senate kicked against the proposal, and, Frank was among the naysayers. The plenary session was a bit rowdy because of a few followers of the SUG president that wanted the proposal to go through, but a majority of the senators were still saying "nay." For sure the "nay" will have it as they were the majority, but instead of the SUG president to back down, he called for an hour recess. The Senate went on a break to resume in an hour time.

Frank, with his well-ironed black trousers and white long sleeve top, resumed with others. Again, the proposal was read in the house, and what happened next shocked Frank. In the same manner, he said "nay" as he kicked against the proposal, but this time, the naysayers have reduced drastically. Instead, the support of the proposal had gained momentum with a majority of the house supporting it. He was surprised. What happened within a few minutes that we went on recess? What could be the cause of the sudden acceptance of the same proposal we rejected some minutes ago? He asked.
As a sharp Delta-born and Port Harcourt-bred, he later discovered that in the course of the recess, money has exchanged hands and many of the senators were bought. He felt defeated and went home sad.

From that day, his view about politics changed. That SUG tenure was one the worst in my time in Uni. The next time I called him Mr. Senator, he begged him to stop and told me that he is a student and a musician . Senator don turn musician .

NB: Money is still a major factor in politics.

Nairaland / General / May The Junior Students We Bullied Years Ago Forgive Us -- OAP Michael Effiong by michaelfix(m): 6:49pm On Dec 04, 2021
Nigeria media personality with Kpoko FM, Michael Effiong, popularly known as Egbegba, has expressed displeasure concerning the death of Sylvester Oromoni. He blamed the educational system in Nigeria and parental negligence. He wrote this via his Facebook page;

"Some of you reading about Sylvester Oromoni Jnr's story were once wicked seniors in college. Yes, you reading this, the only difference is that you didn't kill a junior student in school, but you caused pain to them. Maybe, karma will catch up you with you someday. For those students, you suffered, over disciplined and you caused them lifetime injuries, I hope they get to forgive you.

Being a junior student, while some of us were dreaming of coming out with flying colours, some were busy preparing themselves to become Pharaohs to their juniors. It is a wrong system inherited and it should stop for good. You are likely to hear something like, "When I get to SS3 I will show these juniors pepper." It was more like a transition of wickedness than academic success.

I thank God for the friends I surrounded myself with during my time in Chambers College and Yonwuren College both in Warri. While in JSS2, Famous Onowhoremu and I were thinking of writing JSS3 exams, so we had to double our reading abilities. We made it. Also, in SS2; Onuwaje Ewos, Kpenosen Great (aide to Hon Thomas Ereyitomi) and I were busy writing the Nov/Dec SSCE GCE exams. We got the forms to prepare us for our SS3 WAEC. It was like a challenge before the big challenge, there was no time to punish any junior.

I think parents should help to talk to their wards concerning like this. Also, school proprietors should do more in overseeing the welfare of their students.

For Sylvester Oromoni, I pray he gets justice, but in Nigeria justice is always far away."

Nairaland / General / Trader Moni, Npower Are Waste Of Money -- OAP Michael Effiong by michaelfix(m): 11:41am On Oct 08, 2021
Media personality, Michael Effiong, has criticized the Federal Govt for spending billions of Naira on projects like Trader Moni, Npower, Feeding of school children and others. The Kpoko FM presenter, said the government should've used these monies for other long time and effective projects.
He wrote this via his Facebook page;

"In my entire life, I have never seen a government that has been busy sharing money than fixing the primary issues, like I have witnessed in this administration. Sharing money to citizens, is like wearing a cap to cover your head just to look good, when you have dandruff. The cap won't treat the disease and the cap won't be there forever, but the disease will keep on eating you. Nations don't grow by sharing money, but by fixing the main challenges before them.
From Traders money, to Npower scheme, to Festus Keyamo-led 774,000 special public works scheme, to N75,000 to education students, to School feeding program. All these programs are unsustainable and non has a long term duration or has been able to solve the Nigerian problems.
Is it traders money? How many traders were upgraded, or how many returned the money? With N10 billion budgeted for such ineffective scheme in 2020, that money was just a waste. Put N5 billion in a tech innovative hub and see what will become of a part of our youths in few years.
Why people praised the Npower scheme, to me, it was just another wasteful means to deceive Nigerians and make them feel happy for a while. You feel employed, but you are unemployed. In 2020, they made plans to spend N400 billion on the questionable scheme alongside others. Invest half of that money in agrotech and see what will become of us.
That Festus-Keyamo led 774 jobs was the laughable among others. It was too funny. In June this year, the said minister said they paid over N24bn to 413,630 beneficiaries. Waste of N24 billion. The scheme is designed to pay few people N20,000 for three months, and after they will return to their struggle. Big waste.
School Feeding Program is another useless program. Who will let his child being fed by strangers? This isn't part of our culture for children to take food from strangers without the parents being around. Sadiya Umar Farouq, The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, won't let a stranger feed her children in her absence. Empower the parents, give them good life and create jobs for them and they will feed their children by themselves.
Things will get better some day, but i can't tell when.
Michael Effiong,
Media Personality."

Politics / Should One Celebrate Mediocrity As An Act Of Patriotism? -- OAP Michael Effiong by michaelfix(m): 12:15am On Oct 02, 2021
Kpoko FM presenter, Michael Effiong, has expressed displeasure in the way the country has been going since independence. The Warri-based OAP said, since Eedris Abdulkareem sang his controversial song, "Jaga Jaga" nothing has changed ever since.

https://www.facebook.com/114918913673127/posts/426195415878807/

It's been 17 years since Eedris Abdulkareem released his hit song "Jaga Jaga", and I took my time to listen to the song again, it is still fresh on me. 17 years have gone by and our challenges are still looking at us with boldness. What has improved since then?
Fela's 1977 work, "Sorrow Tears and Blood" and other of his legendary are a reflection of what we are facing today. Take your time today to listen to the works of Abami Eda.
One of the biggest events in 2020 is the End Sars protest, where youths were demanding for better policing, but what has changed since then? Police still harass innocent citizens, there is no improvement in their welfare in respect to their counterparts in other civilized climes. Same system, same old ways.
Remember our doctors have been on strike for months, why there is a possibility that ASUU will go on strike. Also, ASUU went on strike for over six months. Sadly, killing, banditry and kidnapping are now the latest biz in town. Those managing the economy are perplex with nothing to do in respect to the continues fall of naira. Stranded and confused people.
We aren't asking for more, but just give us the basic things of life and run a civil country, that is all.

Should one celebrate mediocrity as an act of patriotism?

Celebrities / Nigerian Celebrities Should Learn From R.kelly Trauma -- OAP Michael Effiong by michaelfix(m): 7:52am On Sep 28, 2021
Popular Warri OAP Michael Effiong with Kpoko FM Warri, has advised Nigerian celebrities to learn from the legal case R.Kelly is facing. Recently the singer has been hit with a likely life-jail sentence over sexual assault and other related cases. This is what he posts on his Facebook page;

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2349970295134286&id=100003640141554

Hard times for R.Kelly.

R. Kelly has been found guilty on all counts of sexual exploitation of a child, racketeering, and kidnapping by the court. He is likely to spend over 10 years behind bars, I don't know if his attorneys will appeal the jail term, but one thing I know is that the singer is facing a terrible time in his life.

In March 2019, in an interview with Gayle King, the embattled singer, cried as he denied the charges laid on him. I remember, I and my colleagues in radio x-raying if his tears were to raise sympathy or he was actually guilty.

Since 2019, I've been following his trial and with more than 40 witnesses testifying against him with similar testimonies, I know it will be difficult for him to survive. Just last week his attorney stylishly liken the case of the embattled singer to that of Martin Luther King Jr., I know he was just playing a pity game.

One thing I will say about him is that he was exposed to sex in an early stage. At 8, he was sexually abused by an older family member, even till 14 years. I ain't trying to defend him, but just telling you about the human factor. Also, his alleged marriage to Aaliyah at an early age didn't help him in this case.

Since 2019, some radio stations in the US have stopped playing his songs, and that is life for us. I think our Nigerian celebrities should learn from R.Kelly's trauma. Be careful of how you use your stardom. You can escape in Nigeria due to our faulty system,but not in advance climes.

May we never fall when we reach our dream.

Politics / Tech: Robinson Plaza Is A Blessing To Deltans - OAP Michael Effiong by michaelfix(m): 2:33am On Sep 10, 2021
Media personality with Kpoko FM Warri, Warri,. Michael Effiong posted this via his Facebook page;

"THIS MAN HERE IS KENNETH GBAGI. A PROMINENT FIGURE IN DELTA'S POLITICS.
WHILE YOU WILL LIKE TO EXPRESS YOUR PERSONAL VIEW ABOUT HIM, I THINK WE NEED NEED TO APPRECIATE HIM FOR EMBRACING THE IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY AND BRINGING IT CLOSER TO DELTANS THROUGH HIS PLAZAS.
THOUGH HE WAS ONCE IN THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF EDUCATION BUT THE CAME HOME (DELTA STATE) TO BUILD, WHAT TODAY SERVES AS ONE OF THE BIGGEST TECH HUBS AND TECH GADGET CENTRE IN DELTA STATE.
PEOPLE IN THESE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS, SAPELE, WARRI (SOUTH, SOUTH/WEST, NORTH), UGHELLI, OKPE, UDU, UVWIE, DO PATRONIZE HIS TECH PLAZAS.

NO WHERE IN Delta State BEATS GBAGI'S PLAZAS IN TERMS OF MODERN TECH GADGETS. HE SAW THE FUTURE AND INVESTED IN IT.
PERSON NO DEY GOOD FINISH, NA SO PERSON NO DEY BAD FINISH. HE IS A BIG NAME IN PROVIDING A SUITABLE PLACE FOR FOR TECH TO GROW IN DELTA STATE.

THIS ISN'T A CAMPAIGN TOOL BUT TO ENCOURAGE DELTANS TO HELP IN BUILDING THE STATE.
TELL ME A DELTAN POLITICIAN THAT HAS PROVIDED A SPACE FOR THE GROWTH OF TECH THAN GBAGI IN DELTA STATE?"

Politics / Re: Reason For Too Many Coups In Africa -- OAP Michael Effiong by michaelfix(m): 11:41am On Sep 08, 2021
So it is now a case of China and the West fighting for supremacy in Africa at the expense of Africans.
Politics / Reason For Too Many Coups In Africa -- OAP Michael Effiong by michaelfix(m): 3:24pm On Sep 07, 2021
Media personality with Kpoko FM Warri, Michael Effiong has expressed himself concerning the recent coup in Guinea. He questioned the act of having multiple coups in Africa. He wrote this via his page;

https://www.facebook.com/114918913673127/posts/409182804246735/

"WHY TOO MANY COUPS IN AFRICA?

Coup d'état has been common in Africa for the last two decades. Military upsetting a democratically elected government is now the order of the day. Last year the coup wave hit Mali, two years ago it was Sudan and today it is Guinea.

The infamous Egyptian coup of 2013 was something that sparked a lot of waves. The death rate was over a thousand with the sitting president, Mohammed Morsi been ousted. Also the Zimbabwean coup of 2019 that retired Robert Mugabe was celebrated by a lot of Zimbabweans and even people within Africa. The old man had been in power for three decade. He was more like a monarch than a democratically elected president.

Why is coup common in Africa than in other part of the world? You barely hear of coup in Europe , but in Africa there is a possibility of a coup in every two years in the black continent. Should coup be celebrated?

One reason there is always coup in Africa nations is because of weak institutions. The democracy practiced in many African nations is vulnerable and has a lot of loopholes. Also African leaders haven't come to terms with what democracy should be. During the infamous US Capitol Attack in January this year, it could've resulted to a coup if it were to be an African nation, but the strong institution of the US stood its ground.

Another reason for coup in Africa nations is the leadership style of some supposed leaders. First, corruption has become a lifestyle among these leaders, and it just have to take few years before you see a revolt. Some lead along tribal and religious line. The presence administration in Nigeria is a clear example of one that is seen by some sections of the country, like one that is leading on a tribal line. This is another thing to worry about.

Why we shouldn't be proud coups, but we can't take away the fact that some of these coups go with a message, that the people have endured enough. Today it is Guinea, tomorrow we don't know whether it will be on Paul Biya's Cameroon or Yoweri Museveni's Uganda. Remember the coup plotters aren't faraway."

There is a language in Nigeria that cut across borders, tribes, religion and region, that language is Pidgin.
Though the Queen's English seem to be our lingua franca, but the big question is that how many of us can really relate and express ourselves proficiently in Pure English.
An English radio in Nigeria would likely not get the opinion of a market woman to voice out her own take on national problem, but the pidgin radio will always give her the chance.
I discovered that wen some Nigerians contribute on a pidgin radio program, there tend to express themselves more with no constraint, but not in an English media.
Also the pidgin radio brings it local to you, that is local content in some sense, if you can fathom it.
A language that you can easily joke with and also easily comprehend.
A language that the bankers, politicians, marketers and almost all Nigerians tend to relate with is Pidgin. So why critize it ?
