Digestive issues such as gas, bloating heartburn, nausea, constipation or diarrheoa can easily interfere with what should be one of life’s pleasures—sharing a meal with friends. The truth is you have to eat in order to live, but when uncomfortable digestive issues arise, what normally should be a pleasurable occurrence for you can take a turn for the worse. As time goes on, you end up with a stressed-out stomach looking for relief. I know, have been there. A happy, well-functioning digestive system is fundamental to keeping you healthy and feeling good. Having a disturbing tummy can ruin the best of days for anyone. By knowing certain tricks to stop (or at least really reduce) symptoms, you can avoid tummy fluctuations and begin to improve your digestion without even noticing you’ve made any important changes. 1. Reduce sugar and fat intake Too many calories from sugary, fatty or fried foods are hard to digest. They can irritate your stomach by slowing down the process of digestion, creating a very full, uncomfortable feeling. Excess sugar makes your blood sugar skyrocket, setting up an unhealthy process of too much sugar in the bloodstream and too much insulin being pumped out by the pancreas to compensate for the situation. The excess of insulin also leads to extra storage of calories, contributing to weight gain. Instead, take more fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds. When eating meat, go for something lower in fat such as fish, poultry, lean beef and pork. Take olive oil instead of butter and margarine. 2. Fill up with water Being adequately hydrated is key in the digestion process. Water helps speed up the transit time of food through the digestive tract, and prevents constipation by creating a softer, bulkier stool. Aim for 9 to 13 cups of fluid each day, or enough until your urine appears clear. Also, do not drink water in between meals, instead drink water before or after meals. 3. Move more It’s easy to understand the benefits of exercise by noticing the changes in the appearance of your bodies on the outside, but keeping active also does wonders for you on the inside. Physical activity is important for good digestive health. Constant exercise improves blood flow to all your organs, including the gastrointestinal tract. This stimulates and tones muscles within your stomach and intestines, keeping contents moving quickly. Aim for at least 30 minutes each day but you should avoid strenuous workouts right after eating. 4. Include probiotics Do you know you have more bacteria in your digestive tracts than other cells in your bodies? Maintaining a balance between good and bad bacteria can sometimes be tricky, and when the bad bacteria dominates, you will certainly feel it with a dysfunctional digestive system. Aiding your good bacteria with food sources containing probiotics are usually the best way to get your gut bacteria in balance. Try integrating yogurt into your daily diet. 5. Slow down when eating Your digestive system doesn’t like to be rushed, if you in a hurry and also hungry, drink water it will satisfy you that moment. Taking your time when eating a snack or meal gives the stomach the chance to easily digest and absorb the nutrients within the food. This also aids your body and brain to give you the signal of when you are satisfied. Turn off the TV and resist looking at your computer or smartphone while eating— if you are distracted, you tend to eat more food than when they put the focus just on eating. 6. Consume more fiber For a substance that really doesn’t get absorbed in our digestive system, it’s surprising how much healthy digestion relies on fiber to keep things running smooth. Fiber comes in two types—soluble and insoluble. Soluble fiber dissolves in water, helping you slow down digestion and absorption, making you feel fuller for longer. It also slows down the amount of glucose entering into your boodstream, keeping blood sugar levels at a more balance level. Insoluble fiber passes through unabsorbed, but it attracts water to it in the colon creating a softer, bulkier, easier-to-pass bowel movement, reducing constipation and pain. 7. Achieve and keep a healthy body weight A healthy body weight is associated with fewer symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This disease allows contents from the stomach to flow backwards into the esophagus due to a weak valve that doesn’t close completely between the stomach and esophagus. The strong stomach acid backs up into the esophagus causing unpleasant symptoms of pain, burning and irritation of the lining of the unprotected esophagus. Losing excess weight reduces the pressure and can help avoid heartburn and other kind of discomfort. In conclusion, how fast our food moves starting from when we eat to the time it leaves our body, has a substantial impact on our gut health. The longer food stays in our digestive tract, the more harmful bacteria degradation products are created. A shorter transit time means a healthier digestive system. Sharing is Caring. Being human can be so stressful, that sometimes we look for anything that can help us cope with the stress. Now a busy, stressful life will not only affect your mental health, it also begin to diminish your body’s defenses against disease and invading organisms. While reducing your stress levels can go a long way in helping you cope through your day-to-day activities, sometimes it’s not always just about stress we have to deal with. In order to improve your mind, you must work along with your body. Everything is connected when it comes to your health, and you simply can’t correct one aspect of your self and neglect the other. These are perfect 7 ways to better your mental health that will also improve your overall well being. 1. Exercise If you have thought of or even quit your excercise routine to ease of the stress, you are wrong, studies suggest that aerobic activity—things like jogging, walking, cycling, and even swimming—can help diminish feelings of anxiety or depression, improve mood, and raise self-esteem. That sounds like a great reason for you to start back with that shelved plan! 2. Reduce Your Caffeine Intake Yes I know what just came to your mind, you drink caffeine to give yourself a boost; but please don’t forget, caffeine is a drug, and the “safe” dosage varies widely from person to person. A stimulant that causes you to stay alert at low doses, high doses can cause anxiety and irritability; too much can prove toxic, even deadly. With so many other options available, why not just cut caffeine from your diet altogether huh? 3. Don’t Drink Alcohol Before you start to defend yourself with that quote of 'alcohol drowns your sorrows', may be you should think of what happens when those sorrows become an ocean and drown you, doesn't feel glamorous anymore huh. A recent study suggests a link between alcoholism and anxiety disorders like post traumatic stress disease -PTSD. While drinking heavily can put a person at a higher risk for a car accident or an act of violence, even more worse it can actually twist the brain, making it harder to recover mentally from a traumatic experience. While the research is still new, it seems heavy drinking could increase anxiety, so why not stay off alcohol completely? 4. You Have To Stop Smoking Recent research shows smoking is actually a very damaging mental activity for you as a person. Smokers who successfully quit were polled six months after and all reported lower levels of depression, anxiety, and overall stress levels as compared to before. The effects on the former smokers’ lives were actually comparable to that of antidepressants. And if you think you can't, do a 3D x-ray of lungs and put it on your wall next to a non-smoking lung, believe me, you'd have a change of heart. 5. You Need To Breathe Clean Air Air pollution does play a role in our mood. Recently, the American Psychological Association commented “evidence is mounting that dirty air is bad for your brain, that high levels may damage a children’s cognitive abilities, increase adults’ risk of cognitive decline, and possibly even contribute to depression. But it’s more than that: it might have even started before birth, with an unborn child’s exposure to air pollution possibly leading to memory or attention deficit problems later in life. 6.You Need Meditation For some, it might seem like an obvious conclusion, but meditation—especially mindfulness meditation—could be a wonderful way to feel better mentally. A recent report from Johns Hopkins University pointed to 47 studies that suggest it’s a good way to relieve stress, anxiety, or depression. This is great news because in the past there have been very few scientific studies done on the subject. 7. You Need To Steer Clear of Pesticides No one wants pesticides used on their foods; unfortunately, it happens all the time. There’s even worrying evidence suggesting that prolonged exposure can affect your mental health. A recent report examined the link between a depression diagnosis in farmers and specific pesticides: “those who used organochlorine insecticides were up to 90 percent more likely to have been diagnosed with depression than those who hadn’t used them. For fumigants, the increased risk was up to 80 percent.” Like caffeine and alcohol, pesticides should be avoided. Living an uncluttered, unrushed, natural lifestyle is a good way to cut short the sources of anxiety before they start. http://www.healththismoment.com/2017/08/7-ways-to-better-your-mental-health.html?m=1

We have all had acne one time or the other, and also some talks on how to get rid of them or even not to have them at all, while some may be true, you would agree with me that most are lies or myths, and these myths has become beliefs, well this article will be revealing the facts and myths, what is true and what is not. 1. Acne is not the same as spots - MYTH Many do believe that acne is different to spots. In truth there is no real difference between these two words. Acne is the medical term doctors use to describe bad spots, and can be medically treated. 2. Acne is for teenagers only - MYTH Acne occurs both in teenage and adult years. In adults, acne consists of two subtypes: 'persistent acne' - that continues from teenage years and fails to clear and 'late-onset acne' - beginning after the age of 25 years. 3. Adult acne affects women more than men - FACT Acne in adulthood affects the female sex more compared to the male. Somewhere between 12-22% of women will suffer from acne as an adult compared to about 3% of men.The reason is, women are more reactive to hormonal changes, for example during the menstrual cycle and many will find their skin worsening before their periods. 4. Acne is genetic - FACT Surely genetics have a large part to play in the growth of acne. Some research have suggested that nearly 80% of acne is due to the presence of certain genes that are inherited. Though, we are unfortunately still not at the stage where we understand all the causes and what we can do to reverse it. 5. Acne is caused by unclean skin - MYTH The growth of acne is a multifactorial process. Acne is a disorder of the pilosebaceous unit of the skin, which consists of an oil-producing gland, hair follicle and hair. The size and activity of the oil-producing gland is affected by hormone levels. Under some certain circumstances the gland increases in size and produces more oil. Skin cells start to become "sticky" trapping pores. Bacteria known as P. acnes multiply and these factors result in spots. 6. Lifestyle affects acne - FACT There is evidence that taking of dairy and foods with a high GI-index can aggravate acne so it is suggested that one should limit these and for them to live a healthy lifestyle. Furthermore, stress can aggravate many skin diseases, including acne, so finding methods of reducing this e.g. through exercise or meditation may indirectly have some benefit. 7. Chocolate makes acne worse - MYTH The role of chocolate and its effects on acne is argumentative. A recent laboratory study showed chocolate consumption in the presence of P. acnes bacteria led to the increased release of chemicals that cause inflammation. However, the link is not that sure as it might be a specific ingredient in chocolate itself that may have a role to play for example cow's milk, which does contain hormones, and sugar. Well-designed clinical studies in the future will establish the real role of diet as a causative factor for acne but currently I recommend everything in moderation. 8. Acne is contagious - MYTH Acne is not contagious or transmittable and cannot spread from person to person. Whilst acne bacteria has a role to play in its growth, it cannot be transmitted like most bacterial infections. But not withstanding, it is not a good idea to share towels or pillows with someone else for general hygiene reasons. 9. Acne prone skin needs moisturising – FACT Moisturising the skin keeps the integrity of barrier function intact and is important for good skin health. Even oily skin needs moisturising as excess oils do not mean there is effective skin hydration. It is necessary to follow a continuous good skincare routine. Skin should be washed twice a day – morning and evening with a cleanser specially made for acne (these products often contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide). After cleansing, use a light gel-based moisturiser that does not block pores as this prevents the formation of blackheads. Finally, using a prescribed retinoid product on the skin before bed will help unclog pores, reduce the formation of blackheads or whiteheads, and calm inflammation. 10. Avoid abrasive products - MYTH A common myth about dealing with acne is to avoid using abrasive or harsh products. Though it is actually good for those with oily skin to gently exfoliate once a week, as it rapidly removes the dead skin cells from the surface resulting in a brighter appearance, and in the longer term, reduce the development of blackheads. It is important not to overdo exfoliation otherwise you will end up irritating the skin and making things worse not better. 11. Don't squeeze spots - FACT It is not advisable to pick, scratch or squeeze your spots. All of these do lead to skin damage and might result in permanent pigmentation marks or scarring of the skin. It is better to use a spot-directed treatment directly onto the area of the skin such as salicylic acid, which can dry it up and help settle the inflammation. If spots has been a continuous issue, then it is a good idea to see a dermatologist who will be able to give you tips regarding skincare and treatments. 12. Avoid makeup - MYTH There is no need to avoid makeup if you have acne and many people choose to conceal their spots as it provides self-confidence. It is important to choose the right products for oily, blemish prone skin, opt for an oil-free makeup tools. 13. Spots can be a signal of health problems - MYTH There is little evidence to suggest that facial mapping for acne is effective for example showing that someone is intolerant to gluten, or bad digestion. However, acne in certain areas of the face might be caused by specific factors: Forehead acne can be due to some certain hair styling products like waxes and oils, which block the pores. It can also occur if you have a fringe, as hair rubs against the forehead skin causing irritation and potentially contributing to breakouts. The same applies for regularly wearing hats, caps, and helmets. Cheek and jawline acne might develop from phone use. Touchscreens contain large numbers of bacteria on their surface and placing your phone against your cheek creates pressure that may activate your oil-producing or sebaceous glands. This is also combined with the heat generated from the phone. Jawline and around the mouth - acne affecting the lower half of the face has often been linked to hormonal changes, especially in women that develop spots at a later age. This can often occur as deep, red painful cysts under the skin rather than blackheads or whiteheads. http://www.healththismoment.com/2017/08/revealed-facts-and-myths-on-acne-pimples.html cc: Lalasticlala Mynd44

1. Salt is tasteless to them Babies are born with a well-developed sense of taste, but not for salt. Studies show that babies can't taste salt until they are four months old. They can taste other flavours as well as adults can, especially sweet, bitter, and sour flavors. 2. They cry ... but don't shed tears Newborns cry so much they make you tired, but they don't shed tears, thats because their tear ducts aren't functional until they're between three and twelve weeks old. (They can, however, produce "basal tears," the non emotional tears we produce constantly to keep our eyes from being dry.) 3. They have no kneecaps Waoh! If you X-ray a baby's legs, you likely won't see anything where the kneecaps should be, and if you do, it'll just be small, smudgy spots. That's because all bones begin as cartilage, and they harden, or ossify, over time. Kneecaps take a long time to form (from three to five years) and because cartilage doesn’t show up on X-rays, babies appear to have no kneecaps. In all this is a good thing, because the spongy tissue serves to absorb some of the shock toddlers take during their crawling months and from their constant falls. 4.They have more bones than adults do This is funny considering how small they are, but they do have more bones. Way more: about 300, compared to an adult 206. The reason is related to why they lack real kneecaps: some of a baby's separate bones join together into single bones as they ossify in the months and years after birth. For instance, the skull starts off as many separate bones that fuse together into one large bone by about the age of two. 5. They menstruate This one got my mouth open. Well, while still in the womb, babies are exposed to high levels of the female hormone estrogen. At birth, when the baby is removed from the womb, as it were, those estrogen levels fall rapidly and in girls can cause what is known as pseudomenstruation, similar to menstruation in young and adult women. (Sharp drops in estrogen and related hormones are in fact what triggers menstruation in adult women.) Mothers unaware of this often get scared, when they see a little blood in their babies' diapers, but it's very common and happens in about a quarter of all female babies, usually in the first seven days of life. 6. They lactate The reduction in hormone levels that causes psueudomenstruation can also cause galactorrhea, an occurence in which newborns develop tiny breast buds, and actually lactate, producing tiny amounts of milk from their nipples. It can happen to both boys and girls. Like pseudomenstruation, it's not dangerous or uncommon, occurring in about 5 percent of all newborns, and can persist for up to two months. 7. They've drunk their own pee Eeew! Babies start to urinate in the womb just a few months after conception. Where does it go? They drink it! This is how it happens, the urine mixes with the amniotic fluid surrounding the baby in the uterus. And by the third trimester of pregnancy, a fetus swallows about a liter of amniotic fluid every day. Since a fetus does not need hydration or nutrition in the womb (that comes from mom via the umbilical cord). This means that each and every adult has spent several months of our lives drinking our own pee. 8. They do remember what they have tasted in the womb As earlier discussed, newborn babies cannot taste salt, but they can taste other flavours, and they can taste those flavors while they're still in the womb, starting from about four or five months into pregnancy. Amniotic fluid is known to be affected by the food eaten by the expectant mother which, in turn, affects a baby's choice of flavour after birth. If a pregnant mom eats a lot of garlicky foods, for example, the baby will taste that in her amniotic fluid in the womb, and will have a good chance of being drawn to garlic-flavored foods after birth. Intresting huh. 9. They're hairy Babies are born with just a few tufts of hair on the top of their heads. This isn't what we're talking about. As it develops in the womb, a baby's entire body becomes covered in a thin layer of hair called lanugo. This hair helps regulate a body temperature in the womb. So, if your baby is born looking like so hairy, don't worry: it's just normal. The hair will fall out on its own over the first few weeks of the newborn's life. If your baby wasn't born covered in lanugo, well, it already fell off toward the end of gestation. http://www.healththismoment.com/2017/07/9-health-facts-about-newborn-babies-no.html CC : lalasticlala

Depression in some areas of the world is not quite known, it is a type of sickness most of us either ignore or don't want to talk about. Every day we read about people committing suicides, using drugs and doing strange things in the process of dealing with or not being able to cope with the condition. What really is depression ? How does one know when a person is depressed? More importantly, how does one react in that situation? It is quite likely for us to feel puzzled and want to know why, when we suspect someone around us to be feeling depressed. More often than knowing what to do, it is more critical to be concerned of what NOT to do or say at such times. Here are some hints to keep to heart. • Do not jump to conclusions Being on the watchout for signs is good, but first and foremost do not to jump to conclusions about the diagnosis. It is customary for almost all of us to feel sad or low, which we usually label as being depressed, at some time or the other in our lives. Everyone goes through these moment or through a low mood that passes in no time. It is alright to feel low and out when trying to cope with loss or disappointments at work or at home. These circumstances don't warrant the use of the services of a professional to help deal with the low moods. • Don't over-diagnose the signs It is paramount to be aware of the identifying signs which can be a cause to worry. Some of the signs are: Sadness of mood Irregularity at work Tiredness Abstaining from social gathering Sudden increase or decrease in appetite especially sweet things Inability to sleep well. Decreased fproductivity at work Loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities Feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness Difficulty in attention and concentration Difficulty in making decisions (The person has) suicidal ideas Frequent and unexplained complaints about his or her body Increased irritability or anger on trivial issues • Don't give false hopes or false reassurances It is human instinct for us to tell a person who is sad or worried -- 'Don't worry, everything will be alright'. While it seems like a very normal or right statement to make, it is likely to be unrealistic or over-optimistic. It may also aggravate the individual further, instead of calming him/her. Often there is not much you can actually do to change the situation yourself. • Don't hesitate to talk Start the conversation as it is important to give a chance to express their feelings and release their pent-up emotions. It is a myth that talking about the problem aggravates the situation. Giving them a chance to vent out their feelings and emotions is more likely to help the person lighten the burden by being able to share it with someone who is concerned. • Don't be too interrogative If you think someone is suffering from depression, it is important for you to give the person a listening ear, and be non-judgmental. Do not offer them unsolicited advice. Giving reassurance with active listening and engaging with the person is very beneficial. Try and empathize with the individual, to try and understand his or her emotions. Show that you care for the person, and do not interrogate. The most effective role you can play is to be a listener, and offer your support. • And lastly don't hesitate to reach out for help or suggest a positive action. It is important to encourage the depressed person to seek the support of mental health experts to ensure adequate interventions and prevent adverse outcomes. http://www.healththismoment.com/2017/07/how-to-deal-with-depression.html cc: lalasticlala , mynd44, dominique |

We all love eating corn, who doesn’t! We roast it, boil it and even mix it with other foods. But what of that corn silk which most of us generally toss into the garbage bin, do you know it can benefit your body in more ways than one. Its intresting, isn’t it? That is what we will be discussing about. The most common way to make use of corn silk is in the form of tea. Here is how to go about it, we will be learning three methods of making corn silk tea before learning of its benefits. Technique 1 This is the common method. You will need ingredients like: Dry or fresh corn silk Water Lemon juice Put water in a kettle or a pot ( kettle preferrably ) When it starts boiling, drop the dried or fresh silk inside. Let it boil for a while, until it turn into a brown hued caramel-like liquid. Strain and serve the tea. You may have it both cold and warm. The lemon Juice is to add flavour to the tea. Leftover tea can be kept in the refrigerator for a few days. Technique 2 This method is more effective in obtaining the natural benefits of corn silk. The ingredients are: Dried corn silk, chopped Water Honey. No boiling this time, just pour some water in a glass jar. Add the dried silk corn in the water. Cover the glass jar with a lid and then keep the jar out in the sun for a day. At the end of the day, take the jar inside and add honey to it and stir well. Keep it in the refrigerator and serve chilled. Technique 3 This method has to do with alcohol. Make a tincture out of corn silk, by filling a small jar with chopped corn silk at about 1/4. Fill the rest of it any high proof alcohol like gin. Cover the jar and let the two ingredients get minced for 5 weeks in a cool, dark place. Make sure to shake it occasionally. Strain then take about ¼ to ½ teaspoon a few times every day. You should reduce the dose for smaller children. You can mix a spoonful of honey to make it taste better, especially if you are giving it to children. Now for the benefits of corn silk It has significant importance considering how most of us throw it away: • Bedwetting : This is an ailment that some children and adults face. Corn silk is a very effective home remedy for this. Experts do recommend drinking a tea cup of corn silk tea before bed to treat it. • Bladder infections : Corn silk act as an anti-inflammatory agent for urinary tract infections. It coats the urinary tract lining and stops further irritation. Corn silk tea consumption eases the inflamed bladder and the urinary tract. It makes you urinate, and thus reduces the risk of bacteria build-up in the urinary tract. It is also used to soothe the irritated prostate gland. • Kidney stones : Corn silk has been used to prevent the occurrence of kidney stones. Corn silk usage can increase urine flow and decrease the chances of sediment formation in kidneys, which eventually lead to kidney stone formation. However, its use will not treat kidney stones that are already there. • Diabetes : Taking corn silk tea helps those with diabetes increase insulin generation in their body. • High blood pressure : Most people suffer from hypertension or high blood pressure issues nowadays including young men and women. They can consume corn silk tea to reduce high blood pressure. • High cholesterol levels • Source of Vitamin C : Corn silk contains vitamin C, which is ideal for boosting immunity. It also plays a major role in regulating different functions in the human body. Special Precaution on Corn Silk Corn silk is safe for pregnant women when used in the amounts normally found in food. But larger amounts are unsafe, because corn silk might stimulate the uterus causing a miscarriage. Not enough is known about the safety of taking corn silk if you are breast-feeding. It’s best to stick to food amounts of corn silk if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. http://www.healththismoment.com/2017/07/intresting-benefits-of-corn-silk.html?m=1 cc: Lalasticlala, Dominique, Mynd44

Insect bites are break wounds or lacerations caused by insects. An insect bites as soon as it is troubled or have a slightly threatened and defends itself, or as soon as it needs to feed. The body reactions depends on the kind of insect and how susceptible the individual is to insect bite. General Insect Bite Symptoms Only when bitten or stung, do some know that an insect is on your skin. Some don’t spot the insect and may not be sensitive to a bite or sting until one or other of the following symptoms begin to show: • swelling, which may be concentrated in the area bitten or may extend throughout the area of the insect bite • redness or rash • pain in the affected area or in the muscles • itching • heat on and around the site of the bite or sting • numbness or tingling in the affected area How To Prevent Insect Bites To put a stop to insect bites, above all in humid weather, the next steps may help: By means of structural barriers, such as windows or net Avoiding wooded, bushy and green areas Avoiding deep fragrant makeup and vivid decorated clothing Covering drinks and trash cans Wearing extensive sleeves and extended pants, tucked into shoes or socks, and a cap Inspection of containers for still water, as this offer a breeding base for mosquitoes. Insect repellants It may be necessary to use an insect repellant. It can be sprayed on clothes and skin, but not the face. It is important to read the product's instructions before use. Insect repellent is not fitting for infants. If a child is less than 10 years old, the repellent should have a limit of no more than 10 percent DEET. Eucalyptus oil also works well, but it is not suitable for children under 3 years old. Repellent should not be applied to children's hands, around the eyes, or to areas where there are cuts and irritated skin. If using an insect repellent and a sunscreen together, the sunscreen should be used first. Insect Bites Treatments Treatment depends on the form of end result to the insect bite or sting. If it is reddish and ache at the site of the bite, applying of ice is enough treatment. Scrub the area gently with soap and water to strip off impure particles dropped behind by several insects (such as mosquitoes). These particles may pollute the wound if not removed. Refrain from scratching the bit or stung area as this may set off the skin to crack down and an infection to form. Intermittent cool packs or frost may drive down swelling. You may consider treating the itching at the site of the bite with an over-the-counter antihistamine such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) in cream or pill form. Calamine lotion also helps relieve the itching ( this is what I use ). http://www.healththismoment.com/2017/07/insect-bites-all-you-need-to-know.html Dominique Mynd44 Lalasticlala

Intrestingly there are facts about our body which we do know does occur, but we dont know is the how and the why; here we have eight of them explained. What Is Brain Freeze? It’s a pain in your head that happens when the nerves in the roof of your mouth are hyperstimulated by cold foods, like ice cream and frozen drinks. Though the nerves are in your mouth, but the nerve center is in your brain, so that’s where you feel the pain. Why Do You Have Earwax? To keep out foreign matter from invading ear canals. Earwax, or cerumen, is produced by glands in the outer ear to protect the inner ear from infection. The sticky substance prevents dust, dirt, and bugs from getting in. Just leave it alone, ears are self-cleaning: The wax slowly moves up and out of the ears on its own, dries up, and drop off or washes away when you shampoo your hair. If you’re a the always clean my ear type, clean just the outside of your ears. Ear canals are like dead-end streets, ear cleaners just push the wax further in. You could also accidentally scratch your ear canal or even puncture the eardrum. Are Carrots Really Good For the Eyes? Yes, they are, along with all other foods rich in vitamin A. The body uses vitamin A to support nerve cells in the retinas that help maintain normal vision. People who are deficient in vitamin A are susceptible to a host of vision problems, such as night blindness. Many red, yellow, orange, and leafy green vegetables―including sweet potatoes, mangoes, and papayas ( paw paw)―contain vitamin A, as do eggs and liver. Why Do You Get Goose Bumps? Because you’re cold or frightened. When you feel chilled, the muscles around your hair follicles contract, causing the hairs to stand up to create a layer of insulation, anthropologists explains that all mammals share this hair-raising trait. But humans don’t have enough body hair for the response to make a difference; it’s a vestigial reflex left over from when we had furry coats, The goose bumps people get when they’re scared may be another vestigial reflex. Anthropologists theorize that aeons ago, when the plentiful hair on our ancestors’ bodies stood on end, they appeared more menacing, and predators would move on to look for less imposing prey. Why Do Lips Thin as You Age? The older you get, the less collagen you produce. And collagen, a protein that supports the body’s soft tissue, is what gives lips their pleasing plumpness. The sun’s ultraviolet rays can also cause collagen to break down and lips to thin. One way to help preserve the fullness of your lips, is to protect them from the sun by wearing a lipstick or lip balm with sunscreen. What Causes Hiccups? Excessive eating, alcohol, excitement, or stress can overstimulate the phrenic nerves, which control the diaphragm. The diaphragm then contracts involuntarily. At the same time, the glottis, the part of the larynx where the vocal cords are located, closes up, The result is the spasms and the odd hic sound that repeat every few seconds. A typical case of the hiccups lasts only a few minutes, but some can last much longer. While there’s no proven cure, holding your breath , breathing into a paper bag, drinking water does the trick sometimes. Why Is Yawning Contagious? No one knows for sure, but a study published in a recent issue of the journal Cognitive Brain Research theorizes that yawning in response to someone else’s yawn may be an empathetic response, similar to laughter. “A yawn can be triggered not only by seeing a person yawn but also by hearing, reading about, or even just thinking about yawns,” says Steven Platek, Ph.D., a professor of psychology at Drexel University, in Philadelphia, who directed the research. Platek and his colleagues believe that contagious yawning may be a primitive way of modeling our feelings after other people’s. Why Do Joints Crack? When you stretch a joint by, say, pressing down on your knuckles or twisting your spine, you cause small air bubbles that form between the sacs in the joints to pop. These sacs, called bursas, help cushion the spaces between the bones and keep them lubricated. As creepy as the sound can be, cracking is usually harmless and has no effect on the bursas. “Despite what you might have been told, cracking your knuckles or ankles or knees or any other joint doesn’t cause arthritis, but it doesn’t do your joints any good, either. http://www.healththismoment.com/2017/06/11-health-facts-explained.html |
Athritis is a disease that affects the joints due to inflammation of the joints. It is usually associated with ageing. It exist in different forms such as: Septic arthritis: Septic arthritis also known as infectious arthritis, and is mostly caused by bacteria, or fungus even viruses. It is an inflammation of a joint that's caused by infection. Typically, septic arthritis affects one large joint in the body, such as the knee or hip. Less frequently, septic arthritis can affect multiple joints. Osteoathritis: Osteoarthritis is a noninflammatory joint disease whereby the cartilage of the joint thins, crookedly -- so only one knee or hand may be affected. Rheumatoid arthritis is a destructive joint disease that is caused by inflammation in the tissue that normally produces lubrication fluid for joints. When this tissue continues to be inflamed, it turns to deformity by loosening joint ligaments and to joint destruction by eroding away cartilage and bone. Synptoms of Athritis 1. Stiffness of the joint. 2. Swelling of the joint. 3. Pains in the joint. 4. Weight loss. 5. Difficulty moving the joint. 6. Fever. 7. Muscle ache. An energy drink is a type of beverage known to providing mental and physical stimulation. Due to the wide array of ingredients in Energy Drinks, it makes them more likely to give side effects than beverages containing just caffeine alone. Even worse, the safety of energy drinks has become a popular issue, as its consumption has increased among children and teens, which is below the regulated age limit universally. Here are the major ingredients of energy drinks and their adverse effects: 1. Sugar The American Heart Association (AHA) suggests that the maximum amount of added sugars you should eat in a day are; Men: 150 calories per day (37.5 grams or 9 teaspoons). Women: 100 calories per day (25 grams or 6 teaspoons). The nutritional value for sugar in energy drinks averages at 27 grams, meaning if a person consumes two energy drinks, thats going excess and can overload and damages your liver, tricks your body into gaining weight, causing you to eat more and develop insulin resistance. It increases your uric acid levels. High uric acid levels are a risk factor for heart and kidney disease. 2. Caffeine For healthy adults with no medical issues, generally it is suggested that 300mg - 400mg of caffeine can be consumed daily without any adverse effects. But a can or bottle of energey drink averages on 242 milligrams per serving, so a person that consumes two energy drinks a day is at risk, with health conditions such as increasedblood pressure, increased risk of heart attack, gouts, incontinence, and possibly insomnia. 3. Sodium The American Heart Association recommends no more than 2,300 milligrams (mgs) a day and an ideal limit of no more than 1,500 mg per day for most adults . In a can or bottle of energy drink, an average of 180 mg of sodium is used for preparation, now coupled with the other foods taken with a teaspoon of salt that has 2,300 milligrams of salt, thats already more than excess. Here is what happens when that sodium gets too much in your system: chest pain, trouble breathing; a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out; swelling in your hands or feet; tiredness, muscle twitching; confusion, uneven heart rate, extreme thirst, increased or decreased urination, leg discomfort, muscle weakness or limp feeling. These are the three major ingredients found in all energy drinks, now for the million dollar question, are energy drinks safe for consumption? That my dear readers is up to you. Addiction as explained by psychologytoday.com is a condition that occurs when a person ingests a substance (e.g., alcohol, cocaine, nicotine) or engages in an activity (e.g., gambling, sex, shopping) that can be pleasurable but the continuation of which becomes compulsive and interferes with ordinary responsibilities and concerns, such as work, relationships, or health. People who have developed an addiction may not be aware that their behavior is out of control and causing problems for themselves and others. THE BIGGER PICTURE IS THAT, EVERYONE IS ADDICTED! Yes you read that right, everyone even a baby, it now depends on what activity an individual is addicted to. This is called BEHAVIOURAL ADDICTION. Now you ask how do you know if you are addicted? Well our body gives signs to us on different part of the body, especially that which we have been using for that activity when we withdraw. Most of these withdrawal signs include: Hypnic jerks Sore muscles Sore joints Twitching of fingers Yawning. These signs are mostly overlooked or seen as stress symptoms but never as signs of addiction. Let me give you some insights as to how the body show us these signs on some common activities, which we overlook; 1. Activities that involves use of Legs for longer period of time more than normal conatantly such as: Walking, sports that involves use of leg e.g jogging, football, or your occupation requires you use your leg constantly e.g Tailors. If you are this category, try stopping for three days, you'd get these withdrawal signs of sore muscles or muscle pull 2. Activities that require use of the hands for longer period of time constantly which include: Use of phone, writing, holding of items, sports activities. If you are in this category, you'd notice twitching of the thumb of that hand after stopping for more than three days or more, like if anyone of us can stop using our hands for that long. LOL. 3. Activities that requires use of the mouth constantly Just one activity is constant that is eating, and we all know the the sign. YAWNING. You are wondering, how can one be addicted to eating food. Let me explain, just like how some people can manage the use of cocaine and some can't as it is addictive, not every one can control how and when they eat. So yes, we are all addicted to eating but not all can control their eating habit. 4. Activities that require the use of our brain constantly for a longer period of time include sleeping. If you are in this category, meaning yoy sleep or think more than normal then you dedide to stop for a while, you start to experience sudden jerks when you are not sleeping or when you think of sleeping. Every one is addicted. Though some are more health troubling than others. http://www.healththismoment.com/2017/06/the-truth-about-addiction.html?m=1

According to wikipedia, exercise is a Physical activity intended to improve strength and fitness. But there are some myths or beliefs surrounding the way and how excercise should be. Here are the popular five: 1. If You Don't Feel The Pain, Then You Are Not Doing The Exercise Right. Definitely, it is true that you should push yourself and try to extend the limits of your endurance level when you exercise, but what is not true at all, is that the best exercises are the ones that leave you feeling horribly sore, and beat up the next day. Discomfort is natural during exercises, but pain? Bad idea. The idea that one should be in pain when exercising is simply wrong—muscle pain during or after exercise usually suggests an injury. Though some muscle soreness is unavoidable, especially if you are new to a type of exercise. This myth has been flagged as wrong by doctors, physical therapists, and researchers of all stripes, but it still persists because most people love the idea of pushing themselves to work out harder with pain. Though your workouts should still be challenging , but if you’re feeling any pain, you should stop. "You want to exercise smarter, not harder," 2. If You're Not Sweating, You're Not Putting Any Much Effort. Everyone put sweating with exercising at equity, but that isn't always the case. People vary on how they sweat. Being physically trained improves your ability to sweat more and to start sweating sooner, men always tend to sweat more than women. Sweating is related not only to exercise intensity, but also to the environment. If it's hot and humid, you're going to sweat more, even if you're not exercising. You will also sweat less if you're dehydrated or lose too much fluid while you're working out as your body has mechanisms to limit fluid losses to keep enough in your blood. So, sweating is not a reliable indicator of your effort level during exercise. 3. Lactic Acid Is The One Cause Of Pain After Exercise. A common Knowledge is that lactic acid build-up in the muscle area causes muscle soreness. This is based on the fact that during intense exercise like weight training the muscles make energy for contraction anaerobically (without oxygen), which leads to lactic acid production. This is in contrast to aerobic exercises like walking or jogging that produce energy using oxygen, with little lactic acid build-up. This belief has been shown to be false since any lactic acid that is produced during exercise is cleared shortly after you finish, long before muscle soreness begins. Instead, that soreness is actually caused by tears in your muscle that occur as you exercise —especially if you’re just starting an exercise regimen: It turns out that tough exercise leads to microscopic tears in the muscle, which leads to inflammation and soreness. This sounds bad, but the muscle damage is an important step in the muscle getting bigger and stronger. Your muscles are made up of protein filaments that shorten, leading to a contraction. Essentially, as your body repairs those microscopic tears, you’re building new, healthy, and strong muscle tissue. This is also the reason why weight training encourages you to increase the resistance or heaviness of your weights as you get accustomed to one level—it’s only through this process that you actually get stronger and build more muscle. 4. You Can Focus On Losing Fat From Certain Body Parts. Fact is Spot-training does not work . Fat cells is every where across your entire body. If you want to get rid of fat from a specific spot, you need to lose overall body fat. 5. Exercise Alone Keeps You Healthy Wrong Wrong Wrong..... Many think after exercising, you can do anything you want to your body. Exercising keeps you fit but not healthy, it only adds to your health status. Your diet and lifestyle keeps you healthy. Have you ever wondered why all these footballers keep slumping on and off the field, thats because they focus more on been fit, and not their health. Not every one that exercises is healthy they are just fit. 6. All Exercises Are Good For The Body Most belief, you can pick up any kind of exercise, then start to work out. Not all exercises are for male and vice versa, not all for old or young, some can even to lead to been hospitalised or in extreme cases death. Exercises need to be done with due consultation and at a particular regimen. In conclusion, excercise is great for the body, meet up with a professional physical trainer to see which kind of excercise flows well with your body system, do not say because he/she owns a gym that they are certified. Be Sure, Its Your Health, Its Your Life. http://www.healththismoment.com/2017/06/5-popular-myths-about-exercises.html?m=1

In the spirit of ramadan, lets discuss fasting and its health benefits. Fasting refers to not taking either food , drink , or both by yourself with no force, for a particular period of time. It could be done partially for some certain kind of food or as totally in which no food or liquid is consumed for a day or a few days. If you can’t fast food for a day, give up coffee or sweets, here are several reasons to fast. Detoxification : this is a normal body activity when the body neutralizes or gets rid of any type of toxins in the various organs like the colon, liver, lungs, or skin . During fasting, the body turns to the fat deposits for energy, which releases chemicals from the fatty reserves and results in the removal of these chemicals through these organs. Improves Mental Health: After fasting, the blood is filled with increased levels of endorphins, which makes you more alert and leaving you with a feeling of good mental health. Reduces Risk Of Obesity : Fasting has been and is still been used to fight off obesity for a long period. It activates the liver enzymes and breaking down fat and cholesterol into essential bile acids, stimulating the metabolism and converts the surplus fat into heat. Under medical guidance, fasting proves to be the simplest and surest way to take out excess fat with an acceptable amount of minimum risks to one's health. Fasting can actually make you fatter. The power of fasting is not in losing weight during the fast, but in gaining control of your appetite after the fast, which is the REAL problem. Gives The Digestive System A Break During fasting, the digestive organs rest, giving the digestive system a much-needed rest. After fasting, both digestion and elimination are invigorated. Lowers risk of type 2 diabetes: Fasting is known to reduce insulin resistance, helping with insulin sensitivity, allowing you to tolerate carbohydrate better than normal. Leading to a reduction in blood sugar levels, reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes. For persons with medical ailment such as diabetes , and chronic ailments like gout , advanced stages of cancer, and cardiac arrhythmia, in which the heart beats irregularly. It is also not advised for pregnant or nursing women.fasting should be done under medical guidance or not at all. What Is A Panic Attack? A panic attack is an unexpected rush of enormous anxiety and fear. Your heart beats faster, harder and you can’t breathe. You may even feel like you’re dying. Left unmanaged, panic attacks can lead to panic disorder and other problems. They may even cause you to withdraw from normal activities such as work. But panic attacks can be cured and the sooner you seek help, the better. With treatment, you can reduce or eliminate the symptoms of panic and regain control of your life. Symptoms Of Panic Attacks Palpitations, pounding heart, or accelerated heart rate Sweating Trembling or shaking Sensations of shortness of breath or smothering Feelings of choking Chest pain or discomfort Nausea or abdominal distress Feeling dizzy, unsteady, light-headed, or faint Chills or heat sensations Paresthesia (numbness or tingling sensations) Derealization (feelings of unreality) or depersonalization (being detached from oneself) Fear of losing control or “going crazy” Fear of dying Some of these symptoms will most likely be present in a panic attack. The attacks can be so disabling that the person is unable to express to others what is happening to them. Causes Of Panic Attacks Although the exact causes of panic attacks and panic disorder are unclear, the tendency to have panic attacks is genetic and runs in families. There also appears to be a connection with major life transitions such as graduating from college and entering the workplace, getting married, and having a baby. Severe stress, such as the death of a loved one, divorce, or job loss can also trigger a panic attack. Panic attacks can also be caused by medical conditions and other physical causes. If you’re suffering from symptoms of panic, it’s important to see a doctor to rule out the following possibilities: Mitral valve prolapse, a minor cardiac problem that occurs when one of the heart’s valves doesn't close correctly. Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland). Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Stimulant use (amphetamines, cocaine, caffeine). Medication withdrawal. Management Of Panic Attacks 1. Psychotherapy: Cognitive behavioral therapy is widely accepted as an effective form of psychotherapy for panic attacks. This form of therapy seeks to help those with panic disorder identify and decrease the self-defeating thoughts and behaviors that reinforce panic symptoms. Panic-foused psychodynamic psychotherapy uses behavioural techniques that are often used to decrease anxiety include relaxation and gradually increasing the panic sufferer's exposure to situations that may have previously caused anxiety. Helping the anxiety sufferer understand the emotional issues that may have contributed to developing panic symptoms and has also been found to be effective. 2. Medications Medication can be used to temporarily control or reduce some of the symptoms of panic disorder. However, it doesn't treat or resolve the problem. Medication can be useful in severe cases, but it should not be the only treatment pursued. Medication is most effective when combined with other treatments, such as therapy and lifestyle changes, that address the underlying causes of panic disorder. The medications used for panic attacks and panic disorder include: Antidepressants. It takes several weeks before they begin to work, so you have to take them continuously, not just during a panic attack. Benzodiazepines. These are anti-anxiety drugs that act very quickly (usually within 30 minutes to an hour). Taking them during a panic attack provides rapid relief of symptoms. However, benzodiazepines are highly addictive and have serious withdrawal symptoms, so they should be used with caution. 3. Self Help Tips * Avoid smoking, alcohol, and caffeine. These can all provoke panic attacks in people who are susceptible. As a result, it’s wise to avoid alcohol, cigarettes, coffee, and other caffeinated beverages. If you need help to kick the cigarette habit, see How to Quit Smoking. Also be careful with medications that contain stimulants, such as diet pills and non-drowsy cold medications. * Hyperventilation brings on many sensations (such as lightheadedness and tightness of the chest) that occur during a panic attack.Deep breathing, on the other hand, can relieve the symptoms of panic. Slow down your breathing. This may best be done by blowing out every breath through pursed lips as if blowing out a candle. Also, place your hands on your stomach to feel the rapidity of your breathing. This may allow you to further control your symptoms By learning to control your breathing, you develop a coping skill that you can use to calm yourself down when you begin to feel anxious. If you know how to control your breathing, you are also less likely to create the very sensations that you are afraid of. * Exercise regularly. Exercise is a natural anxiety reliever so try to get moving for at least 30 minutes on most days (three 10-minute sessions is just as good). Rhythmic aerobic exercise that requires moving both your arms and legs—like walking, running, swimming, or dancing—can be especially effective. A septic tank, typically underground, in which sewage is collected and allowed to decompose through bacterial activity before draining by means of a soakaway. In most houses , septic tank and soakaway are constructed together. The septic tank contains harmful gaeses called sewer gas, which are produced from decomposed compounds in the tank such as faeces or any other substance flushed. But most individuals, allow their tank to get full, before cleaning it out or alerting the waste disposal system. And in some cases constructed poorly letting out the gases. These gases then escape through the vent in the pipe constructed with the septic tank. These gases contain hydrogen sulphide, ammonia, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen, and hydrogen. The hydrogen sulphide gives out the rotten egg smell , when inhaled poses some danger to the human body. Being exposed to low levels of this chemical can cause irritation of the eyes, induce a cough or sore throat, shortness of breath can also occur, and fluid accumulation in the lungs. Prolonged low-level exposure may cause fatigue, pneumonia, loss of appetite, headaches, irritability, poor memory, and dizziness. High concentrations of hydrogen sulfide (>150 ppm) can produce olfactory fatigue, whereby the scent becomes undetectable. At higher concentrations (>300 ppm), hydrogen sulfide can cause loss of consciousness and death. Very high concentrations (>1000 ppm) can result in immediate collapse, occurring after a single breath. What can I do to keep odors out of the house? The best answer is to fix the problem with the plumbing system or have it drained in time. In any case, an experienced plumber will be able to find the shortcomings of the system and offer suggestions on how to correct them on an individual basis. http://www.healththismoment.com/2017/05/health-hazards-of-breathing-in-sewer-gas.html?m=1 CC: Mynd44 Lalasticlala Dominique

Tremor is a kind of shaky movement, tremors may occur at any age but are most common in middle-aged and older persons. This movement occurs on different areas of the body such as the hand, head or even the feet. It is classified into two, essential tremor and non essential tremor. Essential tremor is genetically aligned and occurs without any natural, physical or chemical cause. It is a neurological disease on its own. It has no known initiator. You are more likely to develop essential tremor if you have a parent or sibling with the condition. This tremor can not be avoided if one is genetically predisposed to it but only managed. Non essential tremor occurs due to chemical influence such as drugs, alcohol, caffeine, and also physical cause such as an accident. It is classified into three, namely; Resting or static tremor which occurs when that part of the body is at rest, and will stop when the it starts moving; Kinetic or intention tremor occurs when that part of the body is moving, and will stop when the it is still; Postural or action tremor occurs when that part of the body stays in a position for some time, such as when holding an item or lying down for some time. Now this tremor we can avoid, here is how; 1. Stop the Caffeine intake 2. Quit smoking 3. Stop the alcohol intake 4. Check your blood sugar level, lower blood sugar level induces tremor 5. Take more vitamins and minerals, such as vitamin B12, vitamin B1, vitamin B6, vitamin E, Magnesium, Potassium, Calcium ( take your vegetables and a glass of milk at least thrice a week for these nutrients ). 6. Reduce your stress load, work less, be more happy than anxious, it helps. The human body is easily threatened. Our bodies are mostly destroyed by our own creations. Electrocution has been known to kill people either knowingly as in suicide ( which is rare ) or unknowingly ( which is really common ). Now contrary to believes that voltage in the electricity that kills, it is actually the current that does the evil, it moves through the body igniting the electrons in our body. Our skin alone has a resistance of up to 100 000 ohms when dry, decreasing to about 1000 ohms when wet or broken. Men have lower resistance to women because of their thick bones. Depending on the amount of current and on the course it passes through the body, here is what happens: 1. Cardiac Arrest If the current moves from an arm to another it can pass through the heart and so can be very dangerous. An electric shock of 110 volt or nearer to that amount in the chest can affect the operation of the heart's muscles causing a condition called ventricular fibrillation that can cause death if not treated quickly. 2. Burns The resistance of the body will result in the production of heat which can lead to burns just like in the case of a wall socket that melts when current higher than its resistance passes through it. In such a case, burns might be obvious on the skin. And also according to Wikipedia, if the voltage is above 500 then internal burns might occur. An organ inside the body, or more than one organ, might get completely burned as a result of the heat. 3. Loss of Muscular Control When electrocuted, the flow of current in the body can force muscles to contract or spasm, preventing the person from moving the muscles subjected to shock. If the current is strong enough, it damages the muscles, and might lead to amputation. 4. Damages the Nervous System The human nervous system uses electrical impulses to communicate with the different parts of the body. Any external electric shock might interfere with the operation of the nervous system and cause undesired effects such as involuntary urinating, cognitive damage . The person might experience memory issues or even serious changes in his personality. If the shock is strong enough then some nerves might get damaged causing a condition called neuropathy which might result in impairment in sensation or movement. Conclusion? As happy as we might be that electricity was discovered, DO NOT GET TOO FRIENDLY WITH IT. http://www.healththismoment.com/2017/05/this-happens-to-body-when-electrocuted.html?m=1 CC: Mynd44 Dominique Lalasticlala
