If everyday noises like a dripping tap or someone chewing or clicking a pen makes you irritated or panic, in my case metals clanking together, you might suffer from Misophonia , literally "hatred of sound," (Miso- (hatred) phonia (sound) ) was proposed in 2000 as a condition in which negative emotions, thoughts, and physical reactions are triggered by specific sounds. It is also called "select sound sensitivity syndrome" and "sound-rage." What causes misophonia? Misophonia is a neurological disorder in which auditory (and sometimes visual) stimuli are misinterpreted within the central nervous system. However, misophonia and what causes misophonia is still something of a mystery. Although people may have suffered from misophonia for many years, it has only been recognized as a medical condition since the 1990's. Signs and Symptoms If you have a mild reaction, you might feel: Anxious Uncomfortable The urge to flee Disgust In my case, I get goosebumps. If your response is more severe, the sound in question might cause: Rage Anger Hatred Panic Fear Emotional distress A desire to kill or stop whatever is making the noise Skin crawling Suicidal thoughts The disease can put a cramp in your social life. You might avoid restaurants or eat separately from your spouse, family, or roommates. Or worse, you could act on what you feel. You might attack the person who’s making the sound -- physical or verbally -- cry, or run away from the situation. Over time, you may respond to visual triggers, too. Seeing someone get ready to eat or put something in their mouth might set you off. How Do You Live With Misophonia As for me, I dont use two metals together (like a plate and spoon or cup and spoon) and if I see you using it, I walk away. While some try to mask the trigger-sounds with music, others simply try to avoid them. Depending on the severity, it can have serious consequences for people with misophonia. The condition might keep patients from building-up relationships, engaging in social activities or even leaving the house. People suffering from misophonia often feel alienated and misunderstood because others might write them off as hysterical or overly-sensitive. Often it helps to see a doctor to get a diagnosis as proof that you are not just making it up. Your doctor can refer you to different kinds of therapy. Even just to talk about your condition might be helpful. Do share with someone, it might be helpful cc. lalasticlala seun source: http://www.healththismoment.com/2017/03/misophonia-hatred-of-certain-sounds.html?m=1

Congratulations, you are pregnant! The next nine months are going to be an exciting time, not just for you but for your growing baby! Think of all the things a baby has to accomplish in only nine (ten) short months. They start as a single cell and then divide at an enormous rate. Their organs develop, the heart forms and starts beating and all five senses form. Basically your baby goes from a little blob that can't be seen with the human eye into a seven, eight, nine or even ten pound adorable newborn baby. In order for your baby to develop as healthy as possible, your diet should play a big part. This is because your diet is how your baby is going to receive all the vitamins, minerals, protein and fluids that he or she needs to grow and develop. The best thing you and any other pregnant mother can do for your growing baby is to eat as healthy as you possibly can. Let us look at all the benefits eating well can do for your baby. First, eating right is going to help your baby's organ development. Your baby only has a short time to develop vital organs such as their heart, liver, lungs, and kidneys. Eating a diet that lacks vitamin D or calcium can interfere with your baby's bone and tooth growth. Next eating too lightly through out pregnancy might stop your baby from growing as it should in your uterus. You might find yourself measuring behind for where you should be in your pregnancy. Small babies are at a greater risk for healthy problems once they are born. On the other hand, eating to much can cause your baby to grow too big to fast. Babies who are measuring ahead are at a greater risk for delivery complications. Babies who are too big usually can not be delivered vaginally without the assistance of instruments such as forceps or a vacuum. Some women are forced to have a cesarean section because they can not deliver their baby vaginally. Some research has been done that shows what you eat during pregnancy can affect your baby's eating habits down the line. Babies can taste and get use to the flavors from food that makes its way into the amniotic fluid. It is quiet possible that your baby will have a preference for certain foods before they even take that first spoonful of solids. By making sure your diet contains a lot of vegetables and fruit can help ensure that your baby will enjoy eating that went he time comes. Also, as hard to believe as it is, some studies have shown that what you are eating can contribute to your baby's personality. Research has shown that babies born to mothers who were under-nourished tend to smile less and are drowsier compared to those who at healthy. Also, studies have shown that moms who consumed enough omega-3 acids during their final trimester have babies who showed healthier sleep patterns than other babies. Lastly, your baby's brain needs you to eat healthy especially during the last trimester. Unlike the rest of your baby's organs, the brain has its greatest growth spurt during the third trimester. This is the best time to eat protein, calories and omega-3 fatty acids. These ensure optimum brain development. There has never been a more important time to eat healthy than pregnancy. Eating healthy while pregnant is the best gift you can give your child to be. cc: seun lalasticlala source: http://www.healththismoment.com/2017/03/5-reasona-why-you-should-eat-right-when-pregnant.html?m=1

There is a science called “Physiognomy” or “Face reading”, the science of telling a person’s character and fate only by observing his face. Each one of us is trying to guess if the person we’re talking to can be trusted, is it a good or bad person only by looking at his face. This article presents types of personalities revealed by the ear shape and size. In face reading, your ears are representative of your health and fortunes from age 1 to age 14. Beginning at the top and descending to the lobe, your right ear covers ages eight to fourteen, while the left covers ages zero to seven. In Chinese face reading, our ears relate to our kidneys. Ears come in various shapes and sizes, and they cannot be interpreted solely from the front. Ears are the only part of your face that continues to grow throughout life – and this is why many old people have extremely large ears. When using face reading take into account someone’s age.

In celebration of World Consumers Rights Day held every march 15, I thought it wise if we all know the health risks involved in packaged consumables also known as food contact materials (FCM). Many of the synthetic chemicals involved in packaging and storing the food we eat can leak into it, potentially harming our long-term health, say environmental scientists in a paper published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. Although some of these chemicals are regulated, people come into contact with them almost every day through packaged or processed foods. The authors of the commentary note that exposure is low, but it is chronic, as many of us eat such foods throughout our lives. 1. Glass: Glass may be recognized as a safe packaging material by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) but some type of glass bottles used for storing liquids contain lead. Lead is a potent known neurotoxin and is known to interfere with several functions of the body. Prolonged exposure to high concentrations of lead can cause vomiting, poisoning, and liver and kidney damage. The metal caps used on the top of glass bottles and jars are also known to release a chemical contaminant called phthalate which has been linked to several disturbances in the hormonal (endocrine) system. 2. Energy drinks and beer cans: Those thin aluminum and tin cans used to store refreshing beverages contain ortho-phenylphenol, a pesticide that is used kill bacteria and fungus; it is known to be carcinogenic. 3. Plastic packaging: Plastic usage for packaging foods was the greatest controversy that food industry had to face. A petition was filed requesting the American FDA to ban the use of plastic in packaging foods because of the presence of the chemical bisphenol A (BPA). BPA is linked to several adverse effects on the brain and reproductive health in children. Currently, the FDA is awaiting results from pending research on effects of BPA. 4.Plastics for juice and milk cartons : These packaging materials are called polyolefins .They contain benzophenone, a compound that mimics a female reproductive hormone estrogen and interferes with reproductive health of women. 5. Paper: Use of paper and cardboard boxes for packaging foods is also debatable. Studies have shown that printing ink from newspapers get leached into foods and may cause hormonal disturbances. Recycled paper boxes may be contaminated with diisobutyl phthalate and di- n -butyl phthalate which can cause digestion problems and severe toxicity. Now, am not saying don't buy packaged consumables, just reduce the rate at which it is consumed, for all our sake, I hope a better solution is given. It’s a little hard to believe there’s such a thing as sleeping too much , since so many of us feel like it’s a struggle to even get barely enough. But it’s true: You can overdo it on sleep. While it’s tough to pinpoint the “just right” amount, most adults need between seven and nine hours a night to feel and function their best. Regularly logging more than nine hours of sleep a night may be a sign of an underlying medical condition , but it also puts you at risk for a whole host of health concerns. Here are some of the biggest risks of catching too many Zzs. 1. Sleeping too much can raise depression risk. In a 2014 study of adult twins, researchers found that long sleep duration increased a person’s risk of depression symptoms. The study participants who slept between seven and nine hours a night had a 27 percent heritability of depressive symptoms, while those who slept nine hours or more had a 49 percent heritability. 2. Higher Risk Of Heart Disease If you snooze a ton, you lose...at least when it comes to heart health. Heart disease is already the number one cause of death in the US , and sleeping more than 8 hours a night increases your chances of dying from it by 34% . Women are more prone to sleeping longer than men, which puts them at the highest risk of developing heart problems. 3. Risk of Brain Damage Can't concentrate? Blame your time between the sheets. Chronic long sleeping can age your brain by as much as 2 years and make it difficult to perform everyday tasks, according to research published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society . Irwin says the fact that long sleepers tend to have trouble with basic mental functioning may have to do with how often they wake during the night . If you're getting up too frequently, you might not be getting enough of the deep, restorative sleep you need. 4. Sleeping too much can increase diabetes risk. In a small study from Quebec, researchers found that people who slept more than eight hours a night were twice as likely to develop type 2 diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance over a six-year period than people who slept between seven and eight hours a night, even after controlling for differences in body mass. source: http://www.healththismoment.com/2017/03/4-things-that-happen-when-you-sleep-too.html?m=1

Since it's impractical to convert all of our toilets to make them the right height, a simple solution would be to just put the feet up on a stool (or a box) while taking care of business. Try it out yourself! source: http://www.healththismoment.com/2017/03/we-have-been-wrong-healthy-way-to-use.html?m=1

The so-called 35-degree position is completely different; here everything can take its natural course. This position is the normal in the wilderness and among many cultures, and is learned from infancy on. Somehow the Western world was convinced that sitting is more civilized... According to Dr. Mercola: “The scientific benefits of squatting have sparked efforts to design devices that help would-be squatters to return to a more natural pooping position [...] Another advantage of squatting? Killer thighs. Nothing builds your thighs like a squat. Adding some squats at the gym will undoubtedly help you with your squats in the bathroom!”
|
Or sometimes even like this? Well, this is the most unhealthy position possible! In the 90-degree position (the angle at which your hips are bent), the natural passage of your intestines is disrupted and literally sealed off. Only through unnecessary exertion against the laws of physics can you manage to complete the "movement." In the worst case, this can lead to constipation, irritable bowels, hemorrhoids, and even colon cancer.

We live in a world of excessive information, where every single product, no matter how simple, has instructions (place this toothbrush in your mouth), warnings (do not place this toothbrush in your neighbour’s mouth) and a “help line” to call (Yes, hello, can you tell me something interesting about my toothbrush please?) However there are two things, things we use every day of our lives, that come with absolutely no instructions whatsoever. I’m talking, of course, about toilets. Well now the ignorance will come to an end with this definitive guide to toilet use. Western toilet could be responsible for problems like hemorrhoids, constipation, IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease), appendicitis, and even heart attacks. As Dr. Mercola says: “If you examine the data, there is a great deal of evidence that this is true. The modern toilet has required us to change the position we use to evacuate our bowels, which changes the anatomy of… well, a poop, to put it bluntly.” You probably never thought this could be a problem, but how do you actually sit on the toilet? Like this?

Beards are not only top hot, they're actually good for you, I should know I got one. So if anyone ever brings up that one study that found feces particles in beards , you can counter with any of the following facts: 1. Prevents Skin Cancer Recent researches have shown that 95 per cent of UV rays from the sun are blocked by beards. Besides keeping the sun out of your face, this is also important as exposure to UV rays can cause cancer . It depends on how thick your hair is. 2. Reduction Of Asthma And Allergy Symptoms If you suffer from pollen or dust allergy or even asthma, facial hair actually help by working as a filter and prevent the allergens from settling. This is not much different from the hair in your nose. 3. Stave Off Illness So it might be summer now, but when it gets biting cold during fall or winter or harmattan the beard will keep you warm and can actually help you battle colds as well. The longer the beard, the more better the insulation you get! 4.Reduce Infections You never have to worry about bacterial infections, ingrowths and folliculitis (infection of the hair follicles, causing spots) with a beard. These infections are occupational hazards of regular shaving. 5. Natural Moisture The last thing about keeping beards is that you do not have to worry about dry skin. The hair keeps wind and cold air out, helping your skin battle dryness. Also the sebaceous glands help keep your skin moisturized better when you have a beard, because there is no way you are getting the moisture out of the beards. Beards are so much manlier than a hairless chin. And with these health benefits too! source: http://www.healththismoment.com/2017/03/5-healthy-reasons-to-keep-beards.html?m=1
