somehow:
I have said it on this thread that Ezenwa isn't the best in the league nor is he better than the other 2 on the bench, now we can all see what Ajiboye did.

May God bless Yemi Tela and may he continue resting in peace.

Ajiboye showed Bojan pepper.. the Spanish youth team hated him because he denied them series of goals!
ehm I don't know if you have been corrected but I am sure Ajiboye and Bojan never actually occupied one field at that U17

TheGoodJoe:
By the way, I doubt Vanzekin showed close to the kind of promise Ajiboye showed in the U17. Keep in mind the three penalties Ajiboye saved in the finals.

If we want to talk of real genius talent, we should talk of Akpan Bassey. At the end, we need to handhold our exceptional talents than leave it to chance in the European clubs.

#TeamKNwakali
the reference point here is the 2010 WC, so that means we need to consider his exploits in the U23 not U17 and Vanzekin was a class apart in that tourney.

See in the GK department, special talents come up every year and the national team alone cannot groom all of them. Was De Gea groomed by the Spanish national team? Neur? MaTStegen? The goalkeeping department is groomed by the clubsides, all the Gks of the top footballing countries were groomed there and if you ask me Ajiboye has been groomed well by the NPFL, the only issue is that our coaches are not up to the required standard

TheGoodJoe:

I have said it before. Argentina invited Manuel Iturbe to train with the Argentine team and even join them to the last World Cup because he was a promising talent.

When there is a true special talent, we must take conscious steps to help the talent blow. Especially the exceptional ones.

We can not fold our arms crying the system is bad. Make something out of the bad situation.

That is why I keep calling for a team b training and playing friendly games during the break. Broadcasting it and giving the head coach a chance to study these lads.
let me ask you, have you forgotten Vanzekin? He was a great Gk too at the Olympics in 2008. So let us look at the 2010 world cup for example, ofcourse we need two sound, reliable GKs leaving only one room for a rookie. Dami Paul also wasn't bad at the 2009 U17 so you have three promising GKs will you take all three of them? There are some situations that are just not favourable, blaming Nigeria for not developing Ajiboye is not true

Hope this Ajiboye starts our last match.. Ezenwa should respect himself and not behave like Orji who's not fit but still lied about his fitness to play today.

Ifeanyi ifeanyi is brainless.... With a yellow card you still went for such tackle? Haba!
these things happen even to the best players. I remember there was a time CR7 was on a yellow and he still jumped and scored with his hands and he was sent off, does that make him brainless? We need to cut these guys some slack, it happens and it happened so let's move on

I keep pointing out how we are the authors of our misfortune. After such heroics in the U17, we owed ourselves the duty of helping Ajiboye grow but we did not. This was a young man who was rated above David De Gea in the U17 World Cup.

We need to do more to support our potential talents. The Euro will not do all for us.

We need to kick of a team B Super Eagles after the World Cup, made of young promising talents, both home based and foreign based. Let them play friendlies during international break and those who show more promise than those in the senior team given a chance to prove themselves.
see we are always quick to blame the system, ok so how were we supposed to develop Ajiboye that we did not? He has been playing for local teams for a long time, are you trying to say that he should have been invited to the SE's camp since? In place of who? Enyeama back then? Ejide or who exactly?

My simple point here is that there are some positions in football that are not favourable for black people. You see GK and to a lesser extent the CBs, any average white boy can be developed into, atleast, a sound option in those positions and it makes it difficult for black people to get in there except you are exceptional and that is the case with Ajiboye. Now he has gotten his chance, but the problem is his age, ain't nobody who is going to sign a 29year old Gk to come and start grooming him again so I doubt he is going anywhere anytime soon. However, going to the world cup, he is the best bet we have after Enyeama, way way ahead of Uzoho, I have said that time and again

how many goal scoring opportunities...did Nigeria Benzema (okputu) misplaced yesterday? compare it wit nancho fumbling against Peterborough...and tell me if they're both on the same scale....
lemme run it down for you.

We are arguing about CFs. I told Safarigirl that a striker can have a bad game even though he scored in that game and tbaba1234 said once a striker scores it automatically turns to a good game therein Goldfish80 pointed out Okpotu's performance yesterday. So the bottomline is that I was using Iheanacho generally as an example, please and please I never compared his match against Peterborough with Okpotu's match against Angola, I mean come on, one scored two good goals and could have a hattrick but one barely scrambled the ball in. However if you want me to bring up a game in which Iheanacho scored but still wasn't brilliant then I will but I wasn't talking about Peterborough, thank you very much.

From same bleacher report....

Just like a midfielder could be a box-to-box runner, a " regista," a classic No. 10 or an anchor, a striker could be a target man, a support striker or a prima punta.

By using Pseudo Striker and pseudo Midfielder, you are only justifying "My Deeplying forward/Attacking midfielder hybrid talk" wink Coz I know exactly what I have been saying.

In all, A support striker/second striker is a striker after all... Finito. itz a simpu sturvs. No need coating it...
you can see clearly that even the same article from thesame site cannot comfortably define what a SS is. This moment they are graded him as a striker then the next they have changed it, this is the act of professional journalism, when you are not sure of something, just mix every possibility together. This is not leading us anywhere because your article is also supporting my definition just as much as it is supporting yours so why are you just picking part of the article and arguing?

this whole argument does not make sense. Let's get to the end of it, just answer these questions;
1) You know Goldfish80 has been referring to a CF not exactly a striker right?
2) you know a striker is way way different from a CF right?

It's now about strikers having a good game just because they scored. Micheal2 why don't you ask them if Okpotu had a good game yesterday. Apparently he scored last night.
it is actually funny because I know humility was bashing the team and Okpotu even though he scored but now I said Iheanacho has scored in the CF role without really performing and the narrative has changed to 'any striker that scores played well'. I don't exactly have time for such arguments sha, it's quite clear

Chief Icon4s smiley How were we going round in circles? Can't you see that one was doing his very best to keep the lies coming against that young mam called Nacho. Every time Nacho scores and does well, Goldfish cringes and gnashes.... cheesy #Fact

Or how else do you explain an attempt to debate what formation Leicester played yesterday confirmed by all who watched and by all known reputable sites like Squawka, WhoScored, Goal.com and more?

Firstly , Leicester played a 4-2-3-1 and Nacho's goals prove it over and over again based on the positioning of the players for the most parts..... These deliberately blind bats led by Goldfish80 just wanna argue nonsense for argument sake. They got nothing sound at all. It is just a deliberate attempt to twist the truth.

Also, Goldfish80 proved himself a Neanderthalic coward by not owing up to what an SS means....

He also could not show me where I agreed with him by saying Nacho is NOT a striker....

Abeg, Is a support Striker not a striker? or abi support striker can CM shey? He is very laughable. Looooollllll lolll

Saying someome has a Best position, abeg does is not mean he has alternative positions too?

Please who did Positive, Comparative and Superlative in School back then? Seems Old man Goldfish80 needs a recall? It is really shameful to see a grown mam like him dodge the truth and defecate on himself when presented obvious facts..... He doesn't even understand grammes anymore. He proved himself dumb. Sorry to say.

And ofcos, Mickael2 and Komekn will agree with him.... very super predictable... they all belong to Tue house of Foolery and negativity directed towards a special Player like Nacho. These are the guys who will cringe and gnash their teeth when Nacho shines in the GWG.... it is f**king obvious.
is it not funny that in the bleacher report article you posted they said clearly that 'He is classed as a striker, but will likely be
found in line with an advanced midfield
player and is comfortable on the ball'. That means he is far far from being a striker, he is a pseudo midfielder as much as he is a pseudo striker which is what I already explained but since you want to believe that they are all the same then no problem.

And what Goldfish80 has been implying all along is that Iheanacho is not a CF, there is a BIG DIFFERENCE between CF and a striker you know right? What are you then arguing?

epp me tell Mickael2 o, what is the point of a striker that does not score?

Kelechi had a rating of 8.9 in that game, he was the second highest rated player and maybe he would have been higher if oga Puel did not take him off.

If a striker likes, he can join build up play, he can defend and have the highest tackles, but if he fails to score, he no try
just browse Benzema and there you will see the need of a striker who does not score. He sacrifices his goalscoring ability to be able to bring other players(CR7 most especially) into the game, he has 3UCL medals because of that and he played crucial roles in all of them, most times without scoring. This is not a knock on Iheanacho, if he continues scoring in that CF role then nobody will complain, but the problem here is that the day he will not score, the entire press will come at him for repeated bad performances.

NB: I said most times, not all the time.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Mickael2(m): 8:27am On Jan 29, 2018
But scoring and playing well aren't exactly the same, if not Morata would be in madrid right now. Benzema is no goalscorer but he plays a lot better than Morata hence he gets the nod time and again. Like I said, a striker's bad game can be masked by one or two goals but that does not change what it is, a bad game.

tbaba1234:
I remember scorers like van Nistelrooy, Trezeguet and Inzaghi who could be invisible all game but turn up with the vital goal. if a striker is scoring, he is playing well.

Please chill Cos you dey fall for your hand small small here. Bro you can’t win all the time.move on mate!
the convo has gone deeper than that.

First of all what is an SS? An SS depends on the system you are playing, we have a Second Striker and then a Support Striker, Iheanacho is a Support Striker and not a Second Striker and a support striker is not a striker, he is just supporting the striker hence the name.

Then playing a 4-2-3-1 does not mean you cannot have two people up top. It depends on the style of play of that AMF/SS in the hole. If he is a player like Isco who likes operating through the wings then one of the smfs will have to drift in to make the attack two pronged. But if the AMF/SS is someone who likes scoring and occupying a striker's position then it automatically turns into a two-pronged attack, I mean against Zambia Iheanacho was virtually a striker with Ideye so saying Diabate was playing up top with Iheanacho is not false.

Then going further, Iheanacho has performed better in a two pronged attack. Even after yesterday's game, one of my friends said the guy is better when given a free role, a striker cannot be given a free role when he is leading the attack. See, scoring does not equate to having a good game, Iheanacho's better games have been as a SS, sometimes as a striker, no, most times as a striker he does not perform, yes he may score but he does not generally perform.

Mickael2 come here to this backyard abeg my brother. I want to implore you for the sake of sanity on the thread to totally ignore nerds posts even if he mentions or quotes your post in a friendly way. At least ignore it for a very long time if you cannot do so totally. I have seen that there's no way two of you can interact without acrimony. It's always there below the surface and just a little heat and it boils up to the surface and spills over into the whole thread. I feel it's your way to be critical. You can't help it. We can't force you to change even though many including yours truly feels the bite of your post but then we need it(it can't all be sweetness all the time). I feel if you bow to pressure and start being nice the thread will miss something vital although it would be great if you learn to drop encouragements at the end of your criticisms.

So I feel the best thing is for you to just keep a straight face as far as his posts and mentions are concerned. Because I know where this is possibly leading to. Let's not have a repeat of what transpired before at least let it not be between you and him because once the mudslinging and shades start, some monikers will want to intervene. Some will do it indelicately, some will take sides, some will Stoke the fires. Before you know it accusations and Counter accusations will start flying everywhere taking up precious space. No ooo. That's no good.

I like the two of you but I feel you will listen to me if I talk to you as man to a man. I beg you as a brother who you have never met and will perhaps never meet. I trust you can find enough people to interact with on the thread if you decide to take my suggestion.
We don't keep malice on the thread. So perhaps you can inform others that for the sake of sanity you'd be avoiding his posts (you might not do this, I'm only just suggesting). Please read this and think about it. Then let me know here that you have read it by quoting me. Then we can both delete our conversation here. Cheers

Ideye that joined Westbrom on a record signing in September and took till late December before he registered his first goal.

He had a good spell some time in February and scored 6 goals.

His last 2 goals came in an FA Cup game later in the season after the club had already reached a decision to sell him off.

A record signing that scored only 9 goals in all competition even despite the fact that he had so much playing time.

I need not tell you about the level of competitiveness in the Greek league.

Continue scratching your head. Hahaha
Ideye scored 9goals for a Tony Pulis side from open play. Prior to his arrival most of West Brom's goals were from setpieces, Ideye has never been an aerial beast yet he managed 9goals in a single season, his first season, I need not remind you that he was adapting to a system that was way different yet he managed 9goals. Kudos to him for moving on, that for me is not flopping.

my 50 kobo;

Emenike's struggles with Nigeria in my opinion started when Ideye got dropped from the team. No?

How many games have Nigeria not scored in with Ideye in the line-up?

My only criticism of him is he seems to have lost his knack for putting the ball in the net in the latter part of his career. Earlier on playing in the Swiss league and immediately afterwards, he was a beast! His goals did the talking, no long story. Having said that, on the positive side, the team play better in the final third when Ideye plays. He can hold the ball up excellently and links play better than anyone we have. This though I agree does not mean he is guaranteed a seat on the plane to Russia. Personally he has always been in my 'team' if 100% fit and in a bit of form.

Finally I am not so sure about how hungry he is these days. I just have a feeling he is happy with the career he has had so far and obviously is now financially secure and has a couple of medals to show for his effort. The same cannot be said of most of the younger guys and this is a problem.

And Rohr has since dropped him from amongst the strikers?

The primary responsibility of striker is to hit the net. Even AMs and wingers are expected to score goals talk more of an out and out striker.

Any player from the forwards can hold up play. Ighalo, Iwobi, and Mikel do that a lot.
this flop thing you are mentioning, towards the end of Ideye's West Brom career he actually started banging in the goals. I remember at some point he had 8goals in 11 games and one commentator during an FA cup game(I think it was either a semifinal or quaterfinal in which he scored too) was saying that he is now paying back his fee in full. Then he went to Olympiacos and basically made the Greek league's scoring chart his own. I am actually scratching my head as to why you think he flopped anywhere

depending on the position. Just because you are playing U18 does not mean you won't have to save shots, it doesn't mean you won't face corners and stuff.

Has Enyeama ever failed to perform in the GWG?

About his long term injury, did he not play a professional match last month? You know some GKs who are second or third choice do not even get to play for 2-3months straight, just ask Ospina but he is still the first choice for Colombia. Gks pick up form easily, just some training sessions and a few practice matches so long as they train weekly

tbaba1234:
Different scenario.

Enyeama is coming from a long term injury and has been retired for a while now. It is not as if he was benched.

Mikel never stopped playing for Nigeria and continued to perform.

There are no guarantees Enyeama even wants to wear the Nigerian jersey at all, talk less go to the World Cup with anyone, but you nice people, have decided to take it upon yourselves to carry campaign for a man who is neither here nor there, to what end?

I will rather risk Uzoho, than Enyeama.
eh I am not sure the NFF can just wake up and fix six friendlies, I am pretty sure the coach has a hand in that, a big one. So it's not as if the NFF woke up and said 'hey, 6 friendlies for Enyeama to get into shape y'all'. Far from that, maybe the coach submitted a plan for his world cup and insisted that he needs 6matches or more to keep some of his squad players up to speed(as a matter of fact this was exactly what Rohr presented to the technical committee a few weeks after we finished the qualification process for the world cup, when Enyeama's case was still strong)

As far as I know, he has not fulfilled those requirements, and unless he suddenly has new friends in the NFF (considering everyone is supposedly against him), he is not going to gatecrash the team. NFF cannot outline six friendlies because of ONE person, the ridiculousness of that idea is.....well, just that, ridiculous

However, the six friendlies could be for a more plausible idea that Rohr wants to switch up players positions in th team and wants to test the current goalie he sees great potential in- Uzoho, because I cannot fathom why he would send a trainer from the NT to Spain to train a kid he doesn't have plans to rocket to the #1 position, it's not like anyone ever thinks he would play a supposed third choice goalie

If Team Enyeama cannot tell us what exactly Enyeama is up to these days, I think talking about him is as fruitless as wishing Martins will make the team, if not more fruitless.

Please,if you are supporting Enyeama, tell us what he is up to, or hold your peace.
this is the world cup, nothing is ridiculous. Do you know that some statisticians are paid thousands of US dollars to prepare teams for this mundial? Ok now what is the guarantee that Uzoho will come good? None. We can only hope for that but what if the idea behind the 6 friendlies is 'if Uzoho does not come good before then(according to the personal GK trainer's opinion)then he isn't going to come good anytime soon so best to just bring Enyeama and get him up to speed with six top matches'. Of course these are all assumptions, intelligent assumptions made off the top of my head but this is a scenario which could pan out and if Rohr is the meticulous fellow I believe he is then he is planning for such a scenario as well.

However on the other front, Enyeama's move to Angers has not gone straight through because of his wage issues. And since we still have a week plus left, the Enyeama camp is still holding out for another club. Infact Angers wasn't the first choice and the news was leaked by some section of the media which was why Enyeama gave it a second thought at all
