forgiveness:No Sir, being in an offside position is not an offence. Kindly read through the offside rules I posted |
Offside offence A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by: interfering with play by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate or interfering with an opponent by: preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or challenging an opponent for the ball or clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent or making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball *The first point of contact of the 'play' or 'touch' of the ball should be used or gaining an advantage by playing the ball or interfering with an opponent when it has: rebounded or been deflected off the goalpost, crossbar or an opponent been deliberately saved by any opponent A player in an offside position receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately plays the ball (except from a deliberate save by any opponent) is not considered to have gained an advantage. A ‘save’ is when a player stops, or attempts to stop, a ball which is going into or very close to the goal with any part of the body except the hands/arms (unless the goalkeeper within the penalty area). In situations where: a player moving from, or standing in, an offside position is in the way of an opponent and interferes with the movement of the opponent towards the ball this is an offside offence if it impacts on the ability of the opponent to play or challenge for the ball; if the player moves into the way of an opponent and impedes the opponent's progress (e.g blocks the opponent) the offence should be penalised under Law 12 a player in an offisde position is moving towards the ball with the intention of playing the ball and is fouled before playing or attempting to play the ball, or challenging an opponent for the ball, the foul is penalised as it has occurred before the offside offence an offence is committed against a player in an offside position who is already playing or attempting to play the ball, or challenging an opponent for the ball, the offside offence is penalised as it has occurred before the foul challenge Cc forgiveness wayodude |
forgiveness:How did he challenge for the ball kwanu? By running to the far post when the ball was close to penalty spot ? |
breezy147:Thank you. When someone plays a freekick you don't just flag any player who is in the box offside. As a matter if fact some players stand in an offside position deliberately when a freekick is taken then they move backwards hoping for a knockdown. This guy here moved towards the back post waiting for a flick on, he had no business with the freekick, I don't know why that is so hard to understand |
forgiveness:Sir, he moved towards the far post, even by this picture you can clearly see that he had already started running before the ball was kicked. |
wayodude:As a final word. For a set piece there are two sets of people, those who go to contest for the ball and those who wait for a flick on or a knockdown. Now you may be in the box but your movement is away from the ball anticipating where the flick on would land then that means you were not interfering with the ball when the freekick was taken but your interference starts during the second sequence of events, that is when the flick on was made and you start moving towards where it will land. The second set of people are the ones that actually go to flick the ball on. Those are the ones actively interfering with play. Now back to the case study, the dude who was offside was in the box yes, but he respectfully told himself the truth and ran away from the ball towards the back post hoping he would no longer be offside during the second sequence. So in that case was he interfering with play? No. |
wayodude:That guy that was offside right there was the guy that eventually scored, not the one that went to contest for the ball with Ighalo. The guy that was offside didn't go to contest for the ball he just ran towards the far post waiting for a flick on, so he was not interfering with play. |
forgiveness:He did not move towards the ball na. That guy that was offside was the eventual goalscorer. He was standing close to the far post, he just ran forward for the knockdown, it was another guy who was not offside that contested with Ighalo and he unfortunately knocked it backwards. That guy didn't move towards the ball |
wayodude:No Sir, the offside player was not in anyway interfering with play, he was meters away from where the ball landed na. You judge an offside based on if the player is interfering with play not just because he is active. You are active means you can be running like he was doing but you are interfering with play means you are directly concerned with the ball and it's movement. That was not an offside in anyway |
forgiveness:Iwobi is part of the coaching staff na, he is not a player |
wayodude:So how exactly is this offside? See when Tau took the freekick he was offside, yes. But the problem is that it was Ighalo that headed the ball back to the SA player, in that case Tau's freekick is no longer the reference point. For emphasis go and check Suarez's goal against England in the 2014 world cup, he was in an offside position when the ball was lofted forward but since Gerard headed the ball backwards then it was correctly judged to be a back pass and Suarez scored. Back to this case Ighalo's touch was not a deflection neither was it not deliberate, so it becomes a back pass and even if the SA player was standing with our GK when the kick was taken he automatically becomes inside because it was a Nigerian that passed the ball to him. Brilliant use of VAR if you ask me |
Taliban:Agree 100%. I would trust Musa more to roast his marker than Chuks, we agree perfectly on that |
Taliban: this guy self ![]() |
Taliban:I do not know if the coach makes the decision about that but you are right, that's something they should work on badly. Musa on the other side would have run that guy ragged and his final balls would have been a lot better, but in this case he had to cut back time and time again spoiling his flow, maybe they should really switch their wings and let that Musa guy do his thing |
Taliban:Should I list how many corner kicks Musa got? Forget the win, that sub was poor and everybody can attest to that |
COOL10:That is not related to his substitution na. In fact I can almost swear that the South African fullback must have thanked God that our coach subbed out Musa, IMHO that was a poor coaching decision, if the SA keeper didn't do an Akpeyi we would have still been playing now, it is not as of the corner was fantastic it was a poor one that the keeper should be clearing easily |
COOL10:Nawa oh. Recall that Ndidi almost scored from one of Musa's corner kicks? It wasn't as if our corners had been poor all along. So he brought him in to come and take a corner kick? Lol |
lexyman:No Sir, Musa did that was why his poor decision making was easily noted. Almost 80% of our attack went through his flank not the other side |
Taliban:Absolutely correct |
COOL10:How exactly was it his sub that gave us the goal? |
lexyman:Based on? |
jihday:True though but he shouldn't care. musa is still full of running and he has roasted that fullback already, allow him continue the good work na |
In all honesty why is he subbing out Musa? Dude has been the most threatening player, Chukwueze should have gone out |
Danielnino00:If I was Rohr, IMHO I would still start him on the bench. Now I think we are confusing two things, if you rewatch that game Chukweze completed at most two dribbles, it is not as if he beat the Cameroonians black and blue, in fact the two abi three times he came up against their full back he was disposed the first time and forced back the second time, can't recall the third time. So he didn't create the spaces instead he worked on the spaces left by the opposing team while they went in search of a goal. He had absolutely no hand in that goal and if the game was still tight at that point he may or may not have had any impact, I would choose the second part seeing that he couldn't get past that LB and the LB was actually doing a nice job or man marking Simon Moses all game long. So I personally would still leave him on the bench, 70mins he can come and run at a tired defence and maybe create something then. But for him starting a match, well I don't think I would. |
Up Super Eagles. A win is a win, first half forgotten. |
austenite:Omeruo has been okay, first goal if he had tried to make contact it would have been a clean own goal. Second goal, I don't think you can blame him for losing out on that header, blame should go to Ekong who was not well positioned for the second ball. As a center back pair, the first thing you learn is that if one person goes for the ball then you drop deep incase he misses that ball. If Ekong had done that, Aina's struggle with the guy would have given him enough time to cover. IMHO, Aina and Omeruo have been good, very good. Awaziem has been average and Ekong has been disinterested |
Oasis007:Long ago, before the friendly against Senegal I pointed out that a midfield three of Ndidi, Iwobi and Etebo will not work but people like Safarigirl and Andrew came at me saying I have not even watched the games. Anybody with a little tactical mentality will know that this midfield three will not work, at this point Mikel should be DMF, Ndidi CMF with Iwobi or Etebo as the AMF, simple as can be. The match isn't lost yet though, we go again for another 45. Up SE |
caprikon:No Sir. The match isn't boring, Cameroon is playing some really good stuff. Just that the excitement is at the detriment of the Nigerian team |
Humility017:No Nigerian coach has made me as passive as I currently am. Like seriously even the strength to criticise and point out weaknesses is gone. I just watch the games, slept off twice against Guinea and I was so infuriated with the Madagascar game that I didn't even finish the match, switched to the Guniea game around the 80th minute. That is how bad the country's football is now. But watch the SE we must. Support them we will too |
fabyom:It wasn't a dream, you just rewatched our game against Guinea nothing more. |
elyte89:Wait for Forgiveness to tell you that Aigbogun is better |
forgiveness:He shouldn't even be allowed to manage his wife |
