How many of our carpenter crew can pass as good as Balogun?
Who exactly are the members of the carpenter crew then I can say who he is better than

Firstly, the primary duty of a defender is to defend. Did you also consider whether Chukwueze also did enough to support Awaziem? Look you played Algeria who are the best attacking team in this tournament.

A full back should be more engaged in checking the advancement of the opposing wingers than adventuring forward. Chukwueze not living up to expectations in that game cannot be attributed to Awaziem. The Algerians just pocketed him. Simple. SA did not know how lethal Chukwueze was. His introduction into that game was the joker Rohr used to beat SA.
EOD. Looking for who to blame for another players poor showing is just the height of it.

Wrong. I have always screamed and shouted for Mikel to be played at CM. Even when I saw the match list I criticized Rohr for his inflexibility.

So it's not a hindsight thing. It was clear since the first game of this tourney that Etebo is never a creator and it was costing us heavily as the team was finding it extremely difficult moving the ball from defence to attack. We all know this, it's not hidden knowledge.
But Etebo was never even meant to be the creator, I mean it is just like screaming that Rakitic isn't creative. Etebo was put there to operate mainly as the second DMF and secondarily as the CMF, which means his job was to carry the ball forward to the AMF who is Iwobi. Why are you now blaming Etebo for our lack of creativity when his job description doesn't not even contain that part of football?

I wonder why it is difficult to get a point. Mikel was played in a wrong position and from the first game, it was hammered. The system did not suit him and we needed him to play deeper. Even Pirlo and Xavi will have problems playing there but will be gems in deeper roles.

In that case, will you blame the player or the coach?
In that first game there were instances when Mikel dropped deep and I think it was either Ndidi or Etebo that moved forward and yet Mikel was still misplacing passes at the back. In fact what does his position on the field have to do with the fact that he was too slow to react and too slow to pass the ball and also to slow to make any decision when the ball comes to him? Let is just agree that this wasn't his best tournament EOD, don't blame Rohr

You agree that Balogun should have started the Algeria game ahead of Ekong?
Forget about the Algeria game (because we are analyzing the situation before the game was played), rate the two players' performances up to the SA game.
As in eh, after scoring the match winner garnished with a solid performance against SA they expect the coach to bench him, that doesn't make sense

The only game I remembered Shehu did well was the match he won man of the match. The rest na wack.

I agree Shehu and Awaziem play the same way though Awaziem has an edge with his good passes but they are still in the same category. Both are not good enough for the RB position.
Awaziem does not pass better than Shehu, not even close. I mean for goodness sake Shehu is a midfielder. Passing is already implied. Y'all just do not like the fella

Etebo has been the most reliable in destroying but what Curtisaxel7 is talking about is cohesive coordinated build up plays. Being a creator of the forward play. Moving Mikel to Central midfield would have giving us a creative balance in build up play which Etebo did not offer to a quality extent.
In hindsight possibly, but not based on Mikel's performance against Burundi. Oga no be everything we go blame Rohr. Mikel didn't come to play in this tournament, I guess he was more concerned with securing a fat check from Turkey so he wasn't in the game but we can't blame Rohr, Mikel forced Rohr's hands, and to make matters worse when he was subbed out Iwobi drafted in and the midfield made Kore sense. Cut Rohr that one abeg

Did you watch Mikel's form against Burundi and Madagascar? He has lost touch. Even if you play him in the CM position it will still be a problem.

Etebo has been one of our best performing players in the tourney, he has played 90mins of all games. And you get to the semi-final, to play a very tough Algerian side and you bench him for a Mikel who we know has completely lost steam? Who does that?
I agree with you on this. No sane coach will change his midfield not even attack or defence, in a semifinal match. It just makes no sense.

However the other thing that doesn't make sense is the fact that he didn't sub in a midfielder for one of our two underperforming wingers. Chuks and Musa were poor, okay you want to sub in Onyekuru brilliant but then sub out the other guy Musa and put in another midfielder to wrestle control. That is what I think was the main problem, however his starting eleven was exactly what it should have been considering the other antecedents

Shehu has had more good games than bad. In fact I can't name a bad game he has had apart from maybe the Argentina friendly. All you people said "Shehu never goes forward but Awaziem played basically the same way and you are like what a great player so disciplined.

On Rohr,I support you. Sacking the man might be fatal. It has been long since we have a team as organized as this. Instead of sacking him and rebuilding against., why not complement his shortcomings
There is nothing to build on. It is not as if the team has a well defined playing pattern that another coach can build on.
The only thing that Rohr brought to this team that should be maintained is the pool of talents, even that one self is due to the recent improvements in the U17 and U20 not exactly Rohr.

People keep on hammering on building on what Rohr has established, what has he established? Spain, Germany and other teams have well defined patterns of play, that is something you can build on, but after three years we don't even know if our team is a counter attacking team or a possession based team. IMHO, there is nothing to build on.

Then again people asking for a tactician as an assistant to Rohr, at the end of the day Rohr will still have the final say, so hiring a tactician does not in anyway mean that our team will suddenly start playing well. The tactician can only advice and since Rohr's nature is already as it is, he may still remain conservative and that would just amount to a waste of tax payers money. IMHO a coach should also be the tactician, and if Rohr who earns well over 40k USD per month cannot be both, then that money I am certain can get us a serviceable coach who has a tactical acumen

Our two mildfielders etebo n Ndidi were all chasing shadows tonight.

Sometimes the coach should know that tackles alone cannot win a game. What I saw in our two DM today was redundancy, two people doing same work.
Etebo did try to control the game but then the fact that he has played every single minute in this tournament eventually caught up with him. Even Ndidi too.

Now I think we should rue the fact that we didn't play our second eleven against Madagascar, even if we lost at least the other players for rest small.

You have a better squad than Ivory coast?

The Algeria that beat you today you have a better squad than them? Learn to limit your expectations
We have Onyekuru and Oshimen on the bench plus Kali, I don't think the Algerian bench has anyone close to that except maybe Brahimi.

In defence we have Aina and Balogun on the bench, I am sure Aina would start for Algeria easily. We have a better squad, not better individual players and that's what matters in tournaments

So the other 22 teams should sack their coaches?
The other 22 teams didn't have coaches who had stayed for over three years nor the players we have, in respect to the African continent I think we have a standard squad good enough as any.

By the way some teams have already sacked their coaches

This team is not there yet.. we need to put in more work.. we must go back to the drawing board.
Bros if after coaching the same set of players for over three years and yet your team is only good enough for the semifinal which we have reached 15 times out of 18 then maybe it is not the team that isn't good enough but you.

Mikel should come in for Jamilu, switch to a 3-5-2 with Musa as one attack minded fullback, Awaziem, Ekong and Omeruo as the back three then put Etebo or someone on the other side or sub out one of Iwobi or Chukwueze for Aina and let's ball on

I am a Bonafide Nigerian and I love the Super Eagles

In the beginning, I had doubts about this team but they are gradually winning me over with their attitude on the field of play

But I know one fact; everybody cannot say positive things about the Super Eagles all the time. We are created different and we think differently.

Hence, it only makes sense to respect the opinions of others no matter how silly they may sound.

Granted, we give each other a hard time here by yabbing and making jokes about our wrong predictions and what nots but this should never degenerate to insults.

Some of us here have a hard time swallowing the opinions of others and cannot make intelligent arguments without insulting the other party. Times without number, I have called out some of these people. While some apologize and retract their statements, others remain adamant and choose not to admit their wrongs.

I want to believe we all possess a level of intelligence to converse on this thread and what differentiates the mature minds from kids is the ability to question opposing arguments with facts and without rude remarks.

I am calling on us especially those of us who are elders to act accordingly:

You don't have to reply every rude remark.

You are not in control of the other persons thoughts and opinions; positive and negative

I also want to believe that you (the agggressor) don't feed the aggressee neither do you clothe or pay his house rent grin grin. So the person can oppose you when he wants albeit intelligently.

Agreed

Senegal have not been impressive in this tournament

The 2 best team so far in this tournament is Algeria and Nigeria

Algeria is playing what I expected Morocco to play
Senegal have been good actually, maybe a little bit wasteful but they have been good, for example against Benin even IG that match continued for 3 days Benin wouldn't have scored, and Mane would have scored if not for some fantastic goalkeeping and useless offside calls and last ditch tackles.

For a little more history thus their coach was also their captain in 2002 when they got to the finals and lost, I think they will get to the final with him as coach but they will lose.

this AFCON is different , a lot of history has been re written ... And as it stands they have been OTEDOLA And Dangote has promised the boys another 75kusd per goal ... another Motivation just expect 3-1 or 4-1
Actually this Afcon has been following the history books just like we have never lost against any defending champion, I was still here believing in the team even when we were losing after the first half and we did not fall history's hand. Then again we have always defeated SA in the Afcon, happened again.

Then on the other hand when Algeria last scored a goal at least in five consecutive games they went on to win the Afcon, beating Nigeria along the way. Now they are meeting us again after scoring in five consecutive fixtures. Creepy shit grin grin grin

Well a little history here lads.

In the Afcon qualifiers we lost the first match 2-0 to South Africa then drew the return leg 0-0 and when we met we beat them 2-1.
Now during the world cup qualifiers we beat Algeria in the first leg 3-1 and drew the return leg 1-1 grin grin that's a difference 1 goal for each team (compared to the SA results), now if history repeats itself like it has been repeating itself in this AFCON then that match will be 3-2 in favour of Algeria.

Also the last time we beat South Africa in an Afcon we ended up losing the next match on penalties(that was in 2000).

OK let me run away before people come for my head

I can't believe this huh huh

Is moving towards the ball with the intention of playing the ball? That SA player was moving towards the far post without any intention of playing the ball na. Haba, he was not the one that contested for the ball with Ighalo, he was not obstructing Ighalo and he did not have any intention of playing the ball rather he got involved in the second sequence of events which started from when his teammate contested with Ighalo and he sent the ball backwards to him.

He did not move forward to challenge for the ball. He moved forwards waiting for a flick on. Did you see him anywhere close to the ball or did he jump for the ball??
