A local woman was to roof her house, she had sent for quotations from different carpenters for roofing sheets. She got many and went for the cheapest. Then she asked the Carpenter with the cheapest workmanship where she can get the cheapest price of the roofing sheet. Well, madam, Iginla Stores sell at good and affordable price, one of the best in Ile-Ife, and possibly Osun state – The Carpenter explained. Not satisfied, the woman having mobilized how planks would get to the site and roofing is about to commence asked the Carpenter to follow her to town to check different prices. Worried but not discouraged, the Carpenter took the woman around three building material shops in town and eventually the stopped at Iginla. The woman still believes it will be cheaper somewhere else, a bundle of iron sheets at Ile-Ife at N26,000 must be cheap else where. May be Ibadan, Yes, Ibadan will be fine. She called a friend where they sell roofing sheets in Ibadan. Go to Ogunpa Market, She was told. Oh. I know all those best places in that market, because you need to be wise make dem no scam you oo. If no because of my work today, I would have followed you ma. – The carpenter advised. Haa, No ooo. You must follow me oo. Please, don’t be disturbed, I will give you your daily labor work. You know all these sellers are thieves, some of them make unimaginable gains, I would never be their mugu. You see those planks, and almost everything on my site, I source them myself. One needs to be wise you know. Lol – Madam narrated! Then, they headed for Ibadan with a rented truck. On arriving the busy market, the Carpenter having been used to many of the sellers was greeted and welcomed to the big warehouse. Immediately, the sales boy ask, Egbon se gbele ni abi normal? (Is it high grade or normal?) The carpenter said gbele ni oo…. (We want high grade). Well, we sell high grade at 25,000. Normal at N23,000. The madam asked what is wrong with the Normal? Nothing, just the different makers – The Sales guy explained. No be to roof house make e no leak? Please give us the N23,000 per bundle. We are buying 20 bundles. Meanwhile, All the roofing sheets categorized are same. The grading is in pricing to charge and not in quality of the material. When an artisan goes to a shop to buy, he buys at customers price – Mostly the last price the business shops can offer. They are stakeholders especially as businesses put their small cut when selling. When you are not an artisan, you buy at regular or normal market price. If they sell a lamp holder to an electrician at N150, the normal price may be N200 if you go as the owner. But if owner follows artisans, to market to price and buy, most often, what you get is high grade price unsuspectingly. A lamp holder goes to 250, and any removal depends on artisans price hackling power. Many times, artisans allow sellers to make more gain, on the stubborn owner that follows them and they come back behind to collect the little gains. Well, the madam transferred and paid, and while the carpenter assisted in carrying them out, he requested for the seller’s fone no openly so he can call next time In case he sees no customer . Well, It is coded! He isn’t asking for phone no but account no. Lol He got a paper and put his account no. Before they reached Ikire, he got transferred. N3000 on every bundle on 20 bundles. That’s N60,000. The bundle price was actually 20,000. The woman thought she bought at a better price in Ibadan at N23,000 instead of N26,000 at Ife. Lol The carpenter got home still got paid by the woman as daily labor money. He narrated the ordeal! Lessons: 1. There is a price we pay for trying not to be cheated when dealing with Nigerian Artisans. Being too wise can be costly too. 2. It's mere foolishness to think you can outsmart an artisan or any professional in their field. If you don't trust an artisan and his/her price, go elsewhere. Never be tempted to try buy materials for yourself. Worse still, you source for materials and they tell you you bought inferior ones to make you feel bad and exonerate themselves if whatever they did got spoilt fast - Oluwapelumi Awotedu. As we gracefully find ourselves in a new year, with high hopes and expectations, I feel it is important to narrow down to 5 things that affected many of us in the previous years and have become barriers somehow to achieving our biggest dreams. I have been seeing loads of new year resolutions and lamentations in some places, about the previous years. Well, they are all fine really, but there are certain things we need to fix and do rightly, including myself. So, here we go 1. Procrastination : Procrastination they say is a thief of time. Every time you carry over a necessary thing, you unknowingly postpone success or achievement. This is my biggest problem as a man. I push aside so many things because of my kind of person who believes "easy does it" but I have learned to understand very recently that "ko sohun to fe ka so'hun afi eyi ta ba fagbara se"- Nothing wants to be done except that we forcefully do. To read and pass for an important exam, you must force yourself. To eat when you are sick and get strength. You must force it. So, one thing we must learn in our pursuit for excellence is learning to deal with procrastination. And a good way to making it work is to see the action or task to be done as a "must" do thing. This has helped me greatly the last year and have also been reasons for some regrets too. And one good dose for this, is to find someone close to you who can share your vision and dreams with, possibly someone who have achieved that thing you are currently dreaming. They are constant and best push. If I had made anything meaningful in my life today, it is mostly because someone somewhere is expecting the best from me, and I must not disappoint myself. Yes, don't be bundle of people's expectations, but still have a reminder in people you can trust. That someone is reminding you to apply for that job or when are you getting married, is not always about negativity or pressurizing, most times, for me, it puts me on my toes. After all, they are things that I still pray I get over. So, don't relent. Get a timer in people. It helps. 2. High life's Taste : Unknowingly many people are their own worst enemy for growth and they are not paying attention to that. One of the biggest problems you can have as a "grass to grace dreamer" is when your taste in many things are way too high in contrast to what is obtainable. As a realist, I first factor in what is achievable before daring the system in optimism. Many people are not dreamers but a miracle expectant. Yes, nothing is impossible, but for me, going first for the possibilities is everything. You have nothing in place to guarantee a beautiful house on banana island or latest car and your biggest prayer for next year to God are both. Lol, you're only using God to catch grooves. Work with realities of your present. Embrace humility in desires and hope for the best silently.. A guy here hopes to start making 20 million next year and presently he has an empty account with nothing much of actions underneath, isn't such laughable?? Some people don't want to climb any ladder in life, they only believe in miracles of flying to the top. Hoping to hop from N1,000 salary to 1 million naira next month is like a primary school student hoping to start writing his final year project thesis next session. Lol. E go hard o. 3. High Expectations: One of the funny parts of life is that it usually doesn't give us what we want or even deserve, rather it plays us. And that is why prayer is good and acceptance of things in good faith is better. This is the best way to cope with life expectations. But unfortunately many people lack the patience to understand life for what it is. I remembered my days in school, when exams are fast approaching. I have some reading course mates who will say "Hey, Elu you see this BCH 304 na A we must get ooo" and I will smile. Even after the exam some will still come and show their expectations . And result will come - sometimes we still get A together and sometimes life happens that what you see is what they say you got. Lol.. And you will see lamentation and depression sometimes.. For me A is the plan, B is still fine and C is not bad - after all, 3.50 is the benchmark. And the days I get anything below A grade, I often don't look dejected as others and not because I didn't aim high but because I understand life better. And the days I have A's, I don't look too happy or basking that it is expected. This has been helpful over years in coping with life vis-à-vis shortcomings and realities. 4. Overdo: This is another way through which many people kill themselves. They see others doing something, they already wanna do same without factoring their present ability. I told someone in 2018 that I wanna change my TV to 40k tokunbo LED and the range he is suggesting to me are not only beyond me but outrageous. I had to tell him, come no be to watch telly? You see that 150k you say I should use to buy this ehn, If I have that, I will tell you 5 great things I will do with it.. And he smiled. When you earn 50k and everything that catches your attention are stuffs that cost 3 times your salary, it will be hard to grow cos you will still lack in many unavoidable ways. You are not earning much and you pay for this and that, all of which can still wait for a more convenient time, you will find it hard to grow. 5. Fear: Hmm. Fear is nothing but a killer of dreams, a confidence eater and a Demoralizer. It has crippled many and might almost render many useless, including myself, if you don't fight it head on. How do I fight my fear? I pretend as If there isn't any in me, even if it is choking and burning me inside. And when I succeed, I go indoor and rest off the anxiety. And the next time I'm undergoing same action, the lucky charm is because I have done it before successfully, hence my fear dies naturally. The other way is to plan out for an Alternative - peradventure I get defeated, I know there is another thing you run to. When I'm going for Job interviews, the mindset that If I don't get the job, I will still have little money to spend from my hustle puts my mind still rest, so I get scared less. The worst is get out of here and I go back to where I was coming from. So, doing something for yourself might make you have a better interview session and less desperate , like when you are Idle at home and all you want in life is for every job interview to click and when it doesn't, you get depressed. Finding all alternative or Plan B, helps greatly. As we enter a new year today, I will only say face your fear because being fearful is natural to some of us that we have learned to devise a coping mechanism. Work on your self to achieve more. Happy New Year!!! ©Elu 2020 Source: https://naijalocals.com.ng/5-silent-barriers-to-fix-in-2020-as-a-youth-to-achieve-greatly/

I wrote this on my Facebook platform and blog, so I decided to share with Nairaland virtual friends where the online hustle started from. I call this post “At-all-At-all”: How to make small money online – My Experience. I have written on different ways to make your data subscription worth it and I will wrap it up this year on my experience for 4yrs. I told someone, If I don’t work, I will still be making few naira online as an hustler even though I may not be rich but at all at all na something. So, If all you want for now is “at all at all” – I will show you how I make little change by using the internet. It is a leak that I intend to put in my book “Hustling and business Ideas in Nigeria”. OK. Enough story. Here we go.. The story of my Internet addiction started in 2013 during my NYSC. After going to my PPA and engaging in social and religious activities, there are actually loads of free time left for me to play with, so I accidentally use most online. I Google… Read free Articles I see.. Visit popular Social websites where there are rich information you may not find anywhere. Above all, I developed the penchant for writing anything online, especially on Nairaland and Facebook. After all, Facebook is always asking for what’s on our mind, and since I have plenty things going on in my mind, I pour them out here. Same for Nairaland. I have initiated many to these two platforms. Lol So, I realized that many people come to Nairaland to ask for things like the forum is another google annex itself. Well, they may be right. Nairaland like twitter and Facebook are huge. You can get alot from there. But I started with nairaland. According to my research, Nland welcomes around 1000 guests every seconds. How did I know? I often refresh views on popular posts on front page, especially political news on weekends. If you have 10,000 views now. If you refresh in the next 2mins, you might see 12, 000. In short it is Africa’s biggest social platform. So I go to Nland top page or dashboard and I click on NEW – This will give you all recent posts as soon as they post them before anyone sees it. I look for anyone seeking for assistance. E.g Where can I get Lautech predegree form. Because I know a lot of people that can help. I will reply such, by dropping my mail. If you are fraudulent, you won’t last on nairaland. So, you better don’t play smart and be truthful. I will get a customer for someone. Some times, thank you, some times It’s money. If you hustle like this everyday online, looking for solutions to people’s problem, trust me you will always have change in your pocket, especially if you are in places like Lagos. In short I follow posts like “I need this, I need that”. A man posted that he needed someone who can bring his trucks for packing sand to a place in Ogun state one day, I quickly messaged him. I told 4 people in my locals who do quarry work and gave them the man’s no. I had forgot about it when one of the men came to give me N20,000. It was like a dream. He had been working at the site with his truck for days. Another came with N10,000 after we both finished praying in the mosque days after. I didn’t even know how much they must have made. I don’t care. The rest I inform didn’t get back. I had helped countless numbers of people get things from their posts online. A woman posted that she needed shear butter in huge quantity online. I helped her inform people around me, in hours we got a woman and I linked them. ( I mostly don’t do go-between, I link and backout. Some get back some don’t, I don’t care, such is life). Well, the woman sent me a good sum for the business success and the old woman who supplied the stuff never stopped calling to thank me. This was 2016. In 2017, a man posted on a social site that he needed a fabricating machine for pressing garri on site called Wealthresult. I chatted the man up. I took to action and I started calling people. I got a man. I visited his worksteel place in Ibadan. I took pictures and sent to the buyer. We luckily got a deal. I got money from both ends that covered my cards, data, transport fare, and time. Infact what I got was something that covered my monthly living expenses for 2months, such that if I’m sleeping and waking up in my room for 2 months, I won’t go hungry. I posted the actual figure in my book. When you buy you will see. Lol I help people promote their businesses on different sites like it is mine. I know what I’m doing, when money comes, I will also get something. I saw an Indian on jiji who was moving back to his country in Lagos and wanted to dispose his household Items. I contacted him, and he sent me all pictures of items, his house address etc. I took bus from Yaba Lagos to his home at Ikeja, I prayed Kurisiyu tire (Protection prayer in Islam) Lol.. Make Oyinbo no go use me do juju.. Lol. But business is risk itself. So he showed me around his house.. I saw for myself.. I saw typical indian house for the first time. So many Art works around his walls. Then I went online to spread the news. Then calls started coming. That experience changed everything for me.. I realized people actually buy online than I thought, especially fairly used things. His wife dressing table got me lots of calls and it was sold out quickly. His TV, Gen, Refrigerator, printer, were sold out in days. What did I do? I told interested buyers what the price is with my little gain. I told the Indian also. So, they go to his house to pick it up. He sends me my cut. He has my bank account. Lol Till today, there are some of my ads online that I still get people asking me If I still have them even after they are all sold out. This morning, a guy still ask If I can get him a baby sheep because he saw one of my posts online. Lol! I have no baby sheep anywhere but I will get people who have many. So, that’s business. You can link information anywhere.. I know someone here who has no car sales shop but sell lots of cars on Facebook here and make money like people going to work everyday. I have not bought call-card for 2months now since one brother who I helped to inform people about his project research online survey recharged for me. The N2,500 call card he sent still shows I have around N900 left. That has saved me greatly on call cards. There are many ways to make cash online but not big money at start but gradually. I got N3,000 for a book translation from English to Yoruba handled by a brother here. In 2 weeks we delivered. I got my cut when I was on bike. I just smiled. So, If you are reading this, especially young .. Let me teach you something. Get a good phone with good Camera. Go to those Igbo boys in your town or any good business venture looking for customers. Ask of prices of different products & services.. Take pictures, and be marketing them aggressively online. Once you see customers, you facilitate how to buy and send. Soon, you would have opened an online store for many local businesses. There are thousands of street businesses begging for online presence. Just be truthful.. If you don’t, you have killed yourself with lies. You can post beautiful wardrobe of the furniture maker on your street online, if it is really beautiful and nice, people will call you. You can make lots of money online and can get real deal that will turn your life around. Trust me! I posted NDLEA Job link offer I saw online here, I know someone who applied through the link and went for the interview at Akure days ago.. I goggled past question and sent to her. If she’s lucky to get the job and decide to buy me car, who am I not to jump up? Lol.. In my book Hustling & Business Ideas in Nigeria, that I’m putting together which are based on three things; my experience, Observation and Research, I intend to give you clues of seemingly business Ideas you can try and I’m sure most people will like it. The book is not business plan but an expose on Ideas. You know those key points people used to carry enter exam hall during GCE exams.. Orijo! Haha! That’s it. When the tales is out, you will know. This is a parting gift for the year to come for all to work on. Information are passing online every seconds. Start working on them. I know 2019 is gone, 2020 is here already. So, double up your hustle. Join one thing with another legitimately. You might not be rich, but surely you won’t beg! Wishing all of us better years ahead! Let hustling be part of your new year resolution. You know money is important, shebi? Lol See you all in 2020!
