The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has reacted to the decision of MultiChoice Nigeria to hike its subscription rates.
Reacting through its Executive Vice Chairman, Mr Babatunde Irukera on Wednesday, he said the engagement was to check whether the company implemented a change in terms and conditions in line with the Commission’s mandated steps.

According to him, our orders were broad and it will be important that compliance is prioritised.

“Although we cannot, and did not regulate price except in limited circumstances requiring presidential approval and gazetting.

“As such, our order to MultiChoice did not prevent them from pricing their services in a manner acceptable between them and their subscribers.

“We regulate price gouging. The nature of gouging is post-fact, meaning that when a price movement occurs, we can investigate to determine if it is excessive, exploitative, unrestored or manifestly unjust.

“Such is a very intricate investigation and the fact of the existence of any increase is not the entire evidence.

“There is a method to analyse the increase and other circumstances leading to it.

“As in the case of pharmacies, we are prosecuting for inordinate increases of certain products during early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“For now, the first check with MultiChoice is whether they implement, or intend to, a material change in terms and conditions (of which price is one) without the steps the Commission has mandated as conditions precedent,’’ he said.

Recalls that MultiChoice on Tuesday, announced the increase in DStv and GOtv subscription rates, blaming it on the rising cost of inflation and business operations.

The rates are Xtraview +PVR access fee formally N2,300, now N2,900, Business will now go for N2,669, Padi formally N1,850 will now be N2,150, Yanga formally N2,565 will now be N2,950, Confam formally N4,615 will now be N5,300.

Also, Compact formally N7,900 will now be N9,000, Compact Plus formally N12,400 will now be N14,250, while Premium which was N18,400 will now go for N21,000.

sweetjohn:
He will win. Yorubas love voting mediocrity...

Pls mention your state... Then compare to any Governor who have ruled Lagos

immortalcrown:
Mumu, I am not interested in who gets Tinubu's endorsement. I am only asking you to explain the essence of Tinubu's endorsement. Must he endorse before voters can vote? Answer the question or remain stupid.

Endorsements doesn't mean gubernatorial votes... It only means he is the party flag bearer in the election. Then voters decide who their Governor will be.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday arrested the immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The PUNCH learnt that Obiano, who had been on the watch list of the EFCC, was arrested while trying to board a flight to the United States.

Recall that the commission had in a letter to the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service dated November 15, 2021, asked immigration to place Obiano on a watch list and inform it anytime he is travelling out of the country from any of the International airports and other points of entry and exit.

The Commissioner for Information in Anambra, Don Adinuba, had, however, dared the EFCC, insisting that his boss would return to the US – his original base – after leaving office.

However, barely hours after handing over to his successor, Prof. Charles Soludo, it was learnt that Obiano made his way to Lagos after which he proceeded to the international airport.

On sighting him at 8.30pm, immigration officers were said to have alerted the EFCC who immediately arrested him and took him to their office.

When contacted on the telephone, the spokesman for the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the former governors’ arrest, promising to provide more details later.

"It is true. He was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport around 8.30 pm,” said Uwujaren.

"If you have undertaken any employment or voluntary work that is related to Social Work, please upload a reference that details the exact nature of the work that you undertook together with the days/hours per week that you worked".

This case looks weird for a top 5 bank worker where accounts are opened by the same bank.

Anyways ..anything is possible..

I think your sister should get her money...

Yes..your sister made a mistake...
But I feel your sister is an internal customer to the person who uploaded the salary schedule in head office in this case..
it’s also the person’s responsibility to check all names tally with account number.....

For example ...If a customer gives a teller a wrong name and account number and the teller posts without checking...it’s the teller’s fault oooo...

I think it’s almost the same case here

Thank God you mentioned a top Bank... Do you have an idea of the number of names (bankwide) to be uploaded within a very short period of time.... Sometimes the number of staff can be 10,000 including supporting staffs and domestic staff of top ogas, so who gets the time to be cross-checking one after the other... If you know, you will definitely understand that it's the staff fault

I have a friend who leased his land to MTN, his personal house is on the same land, sadly enough since he got married they've not been able to conceive for over 15 yrs. They are childless till this moment. The wife is a full time housewife, 247 inside that radiation. Not all money is sweet.

Baba, this is blatant and falsehood.. my parents have MTN mast on our land where we have our residential home since 2013 and it's been a great deal. Myself and siblings grew up there and we are married with our kids.

Yesterday marked 12 years since the demise of Evangelist Bayo Adegboyega (Atayero bi agogo). Thank you all for the interest you have shown in his work. So far I've been able to get across to only 3 people here and met just one person one on one.

Concerning those who gave ideas about pushing some of his albums back to the market, the fact remains that there are no promoters willing to take up reproduction especially in the gospel industry. They make their money from sales and people hardly buy cds again unlike before.

Musicians nowadays hardly release albums because the profit is low while other make losses, even people who use online platforms like iTunes where people can actually pay, bloggers buy the songs, then put it on their site where people can download for free all to get traffic for their site at the detriment of the musicians. Hence, these musicians now release singles to stay relevant and hope to get shows and programs to perform and get paid.

Some already made suggestions about making the songs available online and we are trying to work on that. Some albums like special gift exist only in audio cassette for now but attempts are being made to convert to CDs.

These songs are evergreen... May he continue to rest in the bossom of the Lord
