Politics › How God Saved Me From Dasukigate – Senator Arise by midolian(op): 6:44am On Apr 24, 2016 |
Sen Ayo Arise served in the 6th Senate. In this interview with RUTH CHOJI, he spoke on his defection from PDP to APC and the anti-corruption war. He also said President Buhari will not like to risk involving himself in the Saraki saga.
Why did you leave the PDP?
I left immediately after the elections because there was no point staying where you are not comfortable and of course my friend and former governor of the state, moved to the APC a year before I did. As a matter of fact, I felt there was no other reason to keep me in the party. I was there to show appreciation to former President Goodluck Jonathan for locating a university in my place. Beyond that, there was really nothing to talk about since 2011 in terms of whether I agree with some of the things going on in the party or whether they actually consider I had such an influence.
Nigerians are becoming weary of the APC administration because they believe their sufferings have increased. How do you feel about this?
May be most people did not realize the level of rot that Nigeria was in. there have been several situation around the world where you can see economic meltdown and things are not working, there is recession in the air and then some leadership will have to come to help those countries. The situation we were in was very dire and we didn’t know who was coming. The unfortunate issue was the price of oil and our leaders were not paying attention to what was happening. Other countries had started looking for alternatives even beyond the shale oil that has gone down done a little bit. America, the largest buyer in the world started focusing on electric vehicles and all this have been in the pipeline. So we have better realized that our mono-dependent economy is no longer going to serve us. There are other polices of looking at other sectors like if we go massively into mechanized farming. Even to get tractors, assuming we have the money, it will take about six months. So we have to start planning now and, if we are lucky, we will get some crops that will take one year. With new seedlings, some might take three to six months. When you look at crops that fetch money like cocoa, the number of years before they start yielding crops that we can export will reach three years. So the focus is on agriculture. If you look at solid mineral, the number of people that will benefit might not be much. But it is an area that we can focus on. The government is saying we should look at how we can become an exporting nation instead of importer so we can fetch money in terms of foreign exchange. Our foreign reserve has dropped and this requires lots of management. There was a time in this country when banks were not honoring letters of credit because we could no longer pay. So to ensure that we do not get back into such era, we need to do what government is doing now. Unfortunately the theft in the country has become unprecedented, not even the soldiers did what we have realized so far in this kind of reckless theft.
But as a former member of the PDP, are you surprised that such theft took place in the party?
I was really surprised at the level. As a matter of fact, I even spent my money doing the social media campaign and I spoke with some of them on how much I have spent. I wanted them to help us so that some of this thing will go out. As soon as I called them, I never got any response, everybody kept saying there was no money. I was shocked when I realized so many people were busy sharing the largesse. I thank God thank that I wasn’t given anything. Maybe that is how I never knew they were sharing such money. But every government during election must muster money for it to succeed. You can raise money through contractors, businessmen and the rest. Not that you will carry government money and share it for elections. I am still puzzled by the magnitude of what we are reading. We are probing just one sector, once we move to other sectors and civil servants, you will begin to see what is going on. These people are not difficult to catch. They own 70 percent of the houses in Abuja. So if something is not done to put an end to this and put a structure that will ensure that such theft are no longer possible like the TSA which is a welcomed development; but we have to develop a culture of not depending on government money. Because even under President Buhari’s watch now, theft is still going on. The first quality of a leader is leading by example. So I have no fears in my mind that President Buhari will try his best because I don’t think he is in power to acquire money, after all the man is about 73years old now. It is not that there are no greedy people in government but he has developed a strong character and that was the greatest selling point. If he fails on that account, then there is nothing that he is offering Nigeria. So he must succeed in curtailing corruption, he cannot end it but he must ensure that it is reduce to the barest minimum. There must be laid down punishment for such people because if we do not do that, we will be in court for up to 10 years. There has been no deterrent for years and everybody takes advantage.
From what you have just said now, are you surprised with what is happening to the senate president?
The senate president allegedly committed breaches when it was the order of the day in Nigeria. Why he is talking about persecution is because, maybe he knows persons that were doing the same thing together but they have not taken them to court. It is not a question of whether or not these things happened, because there is no way you will go and meet somebody and accused him of something you didn’t see or hear him do. Panama leaks that came out recently made his case worse. That is an addition that he doesn’t really need. A lot of people will expect the President Buhari to call the Senate President to say that, the court should stop this. That would have happened in the past under another leadership but I don’t think the president will like to risk something like this.
Should the senate president step down?
In a different clime, ordinary he should have resigned by now. He is popular with the senators and if he is discharged and acquitted, then he can still get his position back. You will recollect that from 1999-2003 of the senate, we had about four senate presidents. So it is not a new thing. It is all about voting but fighting from the position he is now. I think his fear is that the moment he resigns, the people following him to court will reduce so he might think that, it will be suicidal for him to resign. So he will still be doing something to get an acquittal. But there are some times that you must be truthful to yourself. “Did I do these things and got unfortunate to be caught?’ the president is in a difficult position because he campaigned based on integrity and this case has become a test case for Nigeria. I like Saraki and I like the way he is handling the senate but if indeed he committed these alleged crimes, then it is a serious thing. I lived all my adult life in America and we all remember President Nixon who was impeached because of a case not bigger than this one. So many leaders in America were removed because of extra marital affairs and those were minor things. But for someone to hold such a big position, you must live above suspicion. To me, with the revelations coming out, he should be overwhelmed.
Some have attributed what the senate president is going through because of 2019 presidential elections. Do you share such views?
People need to be factual. If you are caught, then that means you are caught as long as you actually committed the things they accuse you of. That somebody brought it out and you are being tried, it is nobody faults. You have to take responsibility for your mistakes. I don’t think there is anybody that said, ‘go and do this thing’. Go and do false declaration’. You must own up once you are caught. If they start looking closely at everybody, very few will be able to escape this thing. But if you are unfortunately caught, you should not blame somebody. This country is going through a phase, we cannot continue the way we are going. The greatest access to wealth in Nigeria today is through politics not business. People coming out of school now want to be councilors, local government chairmen. They don’t think of what to do to contribute to the economy and they are the engine room of the economy. It is not the politicians. The politicians only make laws so that the big companies don’t oppress the small ones and ensure that rules are followed. But in Nigeria, it is a different thing altogether. Sometimes I don’t blame the politician because there are no jobs and so the dependent forces some people to help themselves when the opportunity arises. The CBN has said that, there are millions of dollars in private accountant that if it is used, things will change.
Nigerians are worried that this government has not come out with any agenda or economic policy that Nigerians can identify with. What is your take on this?
I can say that there are a few movement towards economic revitalization. They recently had an economic meeting at the presidential villa in which governors were in attendance. They have to start from somewhere. The truth is that, the number of unemployed people are way too much. If you don’t ginger the economy for things to start working, because the government cannot hire everybody, then we are in trouble. If you go to some ministries, you will see people sleeping. The few ones that have jobs to do, they will demand for something before they do the job. That cannot continue and if it does, most of our children that we have sent abroad to read will come back and be absorbed in this corruption. Few people are wealthy and so many are poor. So let’s see how this year’s budget is implemented and which areas it focuses on before we make a comment. http://leadership.ng/features/520983/god-saved-dasukigate-arisehttps://leadership.24hubs.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/ARISE-300x300.jpg |

Nigeria’s senate president, Bukola Saraki has explained why he had problems with the country’s immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan. Saraki in response to Dele Momodu’s Op-Ed cleared issues surrounding his emergence as senate president, the role he played in his party’s 2015 general elections and why he objected a Muslim-Muslim candidature proposed by some in the All Progressives Congress (APC). In his response titled: “PENDULUM: A Candid Response from the Senate President”, Saraki said he began to have issues with Jonathan after he exposed the N2.3trillion fuel subsidy racket. He said his security was withdrawn and he was invited by anti-graft agency, EFCC on a number of occasions. Explaining to Momodu, he said: “Do you know the genesis of my real problems with President Goodluck Jonathan? I have had a touchy relationship with him, but the turning point was in September 2011 when I moved a motion on the floor of the Senate that exposed the N2.3 trillion fuel subsidy racket. “I remain proud that I was the Senator that blew the lid on the most elaborate corruption scheme ever in this country. But after that I became a marked man. My security was withdrawn. I was invited and re-invited by the EFCC and the Special Fraud Unit. Goodluck Jonathan, former President of Nigeria “I was even declared wanted at a point. I believe I am still one of the most investigated former governors in this country. I have no doubt that if the Jonathan government was able to find anything against me, they would not have allowed me to go unpunished,” he added. READ: I never struck a deal with PDP to be senate president, says Saraki He then added that he does not expect the APC to shield him but he also does not expect his party to prosecute him. “I do not expect to be shielded from prosecution because of my contribution to APC, if there was genuine basis for such action to be taken against me. But I have every reason to expect not to be persecuted by the party that I contributed so much to build. “The New PDP may not have given APC victory in 2015, but it was an important factor in the dynamics that produced that victory. And with all sense of modesty, I was an important factor in the formation of New PDP; in leading that group to the APC; in ensuring our group’s support for the candidate during the primaries and in mobilizing substantial resources for the election. For these, I have not expected any special compensation. Rather, I only expect to be treated like every loyal party member and accorded the right to freely aspire!” http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2016/04/23/why-i-fell-out-with-president-jonathan-saraki/Culled from “PENDULUM: A Candid Response from the Senate President” |

Unlike most people, I don't have a big issue with lying.
Don't look at me like that. You do it, too — every single day, all day. At least I'm willing to admit and embrace that fact that we all manipulate those around us.
Of course, there are limits. Moral limits. There is a line, and when it's crossed, the lie becomes wrong. Where exactly that line lies, however, has been up for debate for centuries.
You should avoid lying if you can. The more you lie, the more difficult it becomes to keep track of all of the lies. Also, it's usually completely unnecessary. It's a bad habit.
But it's also important to be good at lying for when you need it.
Guys, you need to be a good liar for the times when you need to lie to the girl you love. I'm not saying it's good to lie to the woman you love — I'm saying it's necessary.
There will come times — not many, but a few — when you're going to have to lie to her because you love her.
In fact, there are really only three times when lying is necessary.
1. When she looks like sh*t, but you tell her she looks beautiful.
Maybe she's been exceptionally stressed lately and put on a few pounds. Maybe she hasn't gotten a good night's sleep and looks like a bat out of hell. Maybe she's been carrying around a little person for the last six months and has feet that look like little piggies.
But it doesn't matter the circumstance: It's always okay to lie and tell her that she looks beautiful. It's not that she "always looks beautiful in your eyes." You're not blind. She looks like a hot mess. She knows it, you know it, and everyone who looks at her knows it.
But it's your job to tell her that she looks beautiful. And not because she'll believe you — she knows she looks awful and knows you're just lying — but because she wants a man in her life who's willing to lie to her just to make her feel a bit better about herself.
That's what people who love you are supposed to do: make you feel like things aren't quite as bad as you think.
2. When you know she's biting off more than she can chew, but you tell her she won't fail.
You love her. You want her to follow her dreams, achieve her goals and be as proud of herself as you are of her.
That's the funny thing about loving someone. You usually believe she's more amazing than she believes she is. You love her because you don't just see who she is; you also see the potential she has. You see the kind of person she can become.
You love her for who she is striving to be. And you're going to do whatever you can to help.
Start by giving her the confidence she needs to pursue her goals. Tell her that she can do whatever she sets her mind to. Tell her she won't fail, even when you know that the chances of failure are always greater than the chances of success when the stakes are high enough.
Lie to her, and promise her she won't fail. Because you can't win if you think you're going to lose, and you can't succeed if you don't risk failure.
3. When you tell her you love her more than life itself.
People are confused — just about all the time. We rarely ever know what we're feeling, let alone why we feel that way and what we should do about it.
Most people have a very difficult time separating themselves from their emotions. It's not an easy task. Even usually objective people still slip up.
Life has a way of pulling us under sometimes. If you're ever going to make a relationship work, then you're going to need to learn loyalty.
You need to trust your love for her. You need to trust that you will continue to love her. You need to trust that even if things get bad, it's in your power to make it better. If you're unhappy, focus on making your partner happy.
Don't tell her you're unsure of how you feel about her. Never say that, unless you never want to see her again — because that's likely what's going to ensue. Tell her she means the world to you, and then get your shit together ASAP.
You can either tell a woman you love her or tell her you don't love her. But never tell her you're unsure. It's just wrong. http://www.radar.ng/2016/04/the-only-three-times-its-okay-to-lie-to.html?utm_source=nnd&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=nnd&m=1Lalasticlala I believe nairalanders will have a million and one times its OK to lie to the woman they love..keep it rolling.. |

Politics › Senators Push Back Against Saraki’s Intrigues, Use Of Senate To Fight,. by midolian(op): 9:58pm On Apr 22, 2016 |
Senators Push Back Against Saraki’s Intrigues, Use Of Senate To Fight Personal BattlesSeveral senators and politicians, speaking to SaharaReporters on condition of anonymity, have revealed how Senate President Bukola Saraki manages to maintain control over the upper legislative chamber and to keep many senators loyal to his leadership in the face of mounting evidence of his corruption at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). Mr. Saraki is currently facing charges of false asset declaration and corruption at the CCT. But the sources explained that some senators may be resisting Mr. Saraki’s intrigues.
One of our sources revealed that a growing number of senators were becoming alarmed about the extent to which their colleagues had gone to serve Mr. Saraki’s personal interests. “In Senator Saraki’s absence we have held three days of closed-door sessions and discussed how to ward off public outrage against us,” the source said. He added: “It was decided that the Senate should drop some of its unpopular attempts to protect Dr. Saraki.” According to him, one of the resolutions was to back down from the Senate’s decision to summon Justice Danladi Umar, who is handling Mr. Saraki’s trial, to appear before senators to be questioned on allegations of corruption against him. The charges against the judge were dismissed in the House of Representatives when the men who made them failed to show up to back them up.
“We decided it doesn’t make sense to continue harassing Justice Umar when the charges against him were never authenticated. In the same vein, we decided it is counterproductive to pursue amendments of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act. The public reaction against the amendment was very fierce,” said the senator.
The amendment would have made it harder for the CCT to prosecute public officials for corruption.
Another senator disclosed that tempers often flared up during the closed-door meetings. According to him, at one point Senator Dino Melaye, one of Mr. Saraki’s staunchest allies, threatened to beat up Senator James Manager from Delta South senatorial district. The source said Mr. Melaye became incensed after Senator Manager stated that Mr. Saraki’s maneuvers to use senators to scuttle his trial had caused great public anger against the Senate.
“Senator Manager did not mince words that the trial of the Senate President was now creating huge problems for us,” our source said, adding that several other senators spoke in the same vein during the closed-door session.
Despite efforts by Senator Melaye and other pro-Saraki hawks, the majority of senators decided it was time to de-escalate the tension between the Senate and the CCT. “Nigerians now perceive us as a group committed to the protection of one man who happens to be the Senate President. It is time we restore[d] public confidence and support,” one of our sources said. He added: “In the process, we decided to drop [the] Ethics Committee investigation of Senator Kabir Marafa, an outspoken opponent to Dr. Saraki.”
Several sources told SaharaReporters that the decision to end the targeting of Mr. Marafa infuriated Senator Sani Yerima, a former Governor of Zamfara State. Mr. Yerima is a controversial political figure who introduced Sharia law in his state in his first tenure as governor. Shortly after leaving Government House in 2007, Senator Yerima triggered national and international outrage when he married a 13-year-old Egyptian girl.
Speaking about Mr. Saraki’s manipulation of senators, two sources disclosed that the embattled Senate President recently distributed 36 new Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs to his closest allies in the Senate. One source stated that Senator Manager had received a car prior to his protests about Mr. Saraki’s image and its effect on the Senate as a whole.
In a bid to stem the growing dissension against Mr. Saraki, Senate Deputy President, Ike Ekweremadu, and a few senators organized a 12-member committee with two representatives from each of the six geopolitical zones to reconcile members. Among other things, the Senate resolved that all members involved in litigation against the leadership of the Senate should withdraw such lawsuit. SaharaReporters learnt that a group of senators led by Senator Ahmed Lawan immediately rejected the proposal, which would have had them withdrawing a forgery lawsuit they filed against the Deputy Senate President and the outgoing clerk at the Senate who assisted him in forging Senate rules that enabled Mr. Saraki to get elected as President.
Over the course of these three days, the senators also discussed the controversial issue of budget padding, which led President Muhammadu Buhari, when he found suspicious allocations, to reject the budget and call for talks with the Senate leadership.
Senatorial sources disclosed that Senator Danjuma Goje, the chairman of the Appropriations Committee, did not show up at the meetings, adding that Mr. Goje was behind the diversion of funds from the Lagos—Calabar Railway to other areas of the budget.
One senator alleged that pro-Saraki senators also used the budgetary padding to garner political support for the embattled Senate President. One source explained that almost every member of the Senate was either a chair or vice-chair of a committee as Mr. Saraki had intentionally increased the number of Senate standing committees from 57 to 70. “The budget was padded in a way that each Committee chairman and vice-chair would receive at least N2 billion in ‘special projects’ while the Senate leadership would get at least N4 billion each in such projects,” one source stated. He added that new Senators who are neither chair or vice chair of committees were each allocated N400 million in special projects.
Our source revealed that many senators were reluctant to dump Mr. Saraki for a new Senate President because such a change would entail the dissolution of committee assignments and the loss of perks as committee chairs.
A civil rights source in Abuja told SaharaReporters that Mr. Saraki had also corrupted some players in the non-government organizations (NGOs). “Many NGOs that campaigned for openness at the National Assembly were themselves co-opted into his [Mr. Saraki’s] inner circle,” the source said. “That’s why several of them have been unable to realize their objective of getting the public to see the details of the opaque budget of the National Assembly. And yet Senator Saraki had pledged to collaborate with these NGOs to bring matters of governance to the public domain.”
Our correspondent learned that, during the final closed-door session, the deputy chair of the Appropriations Committee, Senator Sonni Ugbuoji from Ebonyi South senatorial district, shocked his colleagues by declaring that he was not aware of the details of the budget that his chairperson, Senator Goje, sent to President Buhari for assent. Senator Ekweremadu also disclosed he had not seen the budget breakdown till now. His admission infuriated some Senators, but he hurriedly appealed to them to stay united, pointing to those he called the enemies of the Senate from outside. He then declared the session open and closed to enable some members to join Mr. Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. http://saharareporters.com/2016/04/22/senators-push-back-against-saraki%E2%80%99s-intrigues-use-senate-fight-personal-battles

A 27-year-old robbery suspect, Abdulhameed Ibrahim, who was reportedly arrested after a CCTV footage in a bank in Ogudu, Lagos state revealed his stealing activities in the bank, has confessed how he raided banks, stole huge amount of money which he used to invest in cocaine business.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP, Fatai Owoseni, who paraded the suspect on Wednesday before newsmen, said Ibrahim was caught after he stole N1.5 million from a new generation bank, located at Ogudu.
Owoseni added that Ibrahim was an ‘unrepentant and remorseless robber who had served jail terms in Plateau and Kaduna states for a similar offence.’
“He was arrested after CCTV footage in the bank showed him stealing the money in one of his exploits,” the CP noted.
Ibrahim, confessing before newsmen, said he was a graduate of the University of Medina, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and a former staff of the Saudi Arabia Embassy but was deported from Saudi Arabia in 2011.
He explained that he only stole money from careless banks and cashiers and had invested the money by buying cocaine which he subsequently sells in Abuja.
“I have made over N20 million since I started stealing in banks. I started the operation last month when I came to Lagos from Plateau State.
“I used the money I got from the bank to buy cocaine. I sell the cocaine in Abuja. I made double the price I bought the drug.
“Before I go into the bank, I have a friend called Segun; who prepares the ground for me with the assistance of an insider in the bank.
“On this particular occasion, I went into the bank to deposit money in the bulk room. When I got there, I discovered some amount of money was carelessly placed on the counter. I smartly took it without the female cashier seeing me. She was engrossed in a novel she was reading.
“I walked out of the bulk room and nobody stopped me. I got home and counted the money; it was N1.5 million.
“The personnel of the internal security of that bank just don’t understand their job. The bank where I stole the money is careless. They display their money without minding who comes into the banking hall. I have studied those at the bank; if I had another opportunity, I would love to go to the same bank branch to steal. They are careless.”
When asked why he chose to invest the stolen money on drugs, he said, “I love hard drugs. Since I came back to Nigeria, I’ve been into this act of stealing to sustain my drug life. Police in Lagos have stopped my activities.
“I was called through the hotel intercom that I have a visitor. When the policeman spoke to me through the intercom, I immediately sensed he was a policeman.
“I came out and surrendered myself. I knew I had come to the end of the road,” Ibrahim added.
The CP, however, said the suspect was arrested with items including dollar notes, white powdery substances suspected to be cocaine and some mobile phones.
“The suspect will be charged to curt soon.” http://dailypost.ng/2016/04/21/if-i-have-another-opportunity-i-will-rob-the-same-bank-they-are-careless-ex-convict/?utm_source=dp_twt&utm_medium=twitterhttps://cdn.dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/bankk.pngLalasticlala |

Senate President Bukola Saraki and Godsday Orubebe, former minister of Niger Delta affairs, are both at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) at present. Orubebe arrived a few minutes before the senate president, who sauntered into the courtroom at 10:03am. Both personalities are facing charges at the CCT for alleged false declaration of assets. While Saraki is facing a 13-count charge of false declaration of assets, Orubebe is facing a one-count charge of the same alleged offence. TheCable saw Saraki having a chat with the former minister, who sat in front of him. It is uncertain which of the trials will commence first. And Danladi Umar, chairman of the CCT, is yet to sit as of the time of filing this report. Meanwhile, at least four senators accompanied the senate president to the CCT. Orubebe tossed himself into national reckoning when he tried to disrupt the collation of the 2015 presidential results in Abuja. https://www.thecable.ng/extra-saraki-orubebe-meet-cct

Abuja – The Economic and Financial Commission has disowned the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu. As its anti-corruption ambassador. Ekweremadu was reportedly decorated as an ambassador of the anti-graft agency by its National Assembly Liaison Officer, Sulaiman Bakari, on Tuesday.
But apparently angered by such appointment and decoration of the DSP, the commission kicked against it on Wednesday morning, saying that it did not authorise Bakari to confer such status on Ekweremadu or any other politician for that matter.

In a statement dissociating the commission from the action, EFCC Spokesman. Wilson Uwujaren, claimed Bakari acted on his own as the commission does not give awards but investigates economic and Financial crimes.
Wilson said: “The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to some reports in the print and online media, on April 20, 2016 claiming that the anti-graft agency has decorated the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, as “Anti-Corruption Ambassador”.
“According to a statement issued to the Press by the Special Adviser to the Deputy Senate President, Uche Anichukwu, the purported decoration, was carried out by the EFCC National Assembly Liaison Officer, Suleiman Bakari who was quoted to have said: “ On behalf of my acting chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Mustafa Magu and the entire management and staff of the EFCC, decorate you as an Anti- Corruption Ambassador and formally present this frame, as a token of our appreciation to your person and office, and as a symbol of the institutional partnership between the EFCC and the National Assembly”.
“The EFCC totally dissociates itself from the purported action of Sulaiman Bakari as he acted entirely on his own. “He clearly acted outside his brief as a liaison officer as the management of the Commission at no time mandated him to decorate Ekweremadu or any officer of the National Assembly as Anti- Corruption Ambassador.
“The statutory mandate of the EFCC is the investigation and prosecution of all economic and financial crimes cases, which does not include the decoration of individuals as anti- corruption ambassadors.
“The Commission is not in the habit of awarding titles to individuals. And those enamoured of titles, know the quarters to approach for such honours, not the EFCC
Members of the public and stakeholders in the fight against corruption are enjoined to disregard the so-called decoration, Uwujaren said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/04/%E2%80%8Eefcc-disowns-ekweremadu-anti-corruption-ambassador/ Lalasticlala |

https://cdn.dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/pro-saraki8.jpg Acivil society organisation known as Citizen for Defence of Democracy, CDD, on Tuesday organisation a mass protest at the Code of Conduct Tribunal,CCT, demanding fairness in the ongoing trial of the Senate Present, Bukola Saraki.
The protesters were seen playing drums while displaying banners with the inscription, ” Leave Saraki Alone”, “Nigerian Youths/Student to CCT, be courageous and strike out the charges against Saraki,” among others.

Saraki is currently standing trial for false declaration of assets at the CCT.
Convener of the protest and National Coordinator of CDD, Tochukwu Ohazuruike while speaking with DAILY POST just outside the tribunal premises where the protest is holding said Saraki was being subjected to persecution and not prosecution.

Ohazuruike wondered why the CCT Chairman ,Danladi Umar who is on administrative bail from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, would preside over saraki’s matter.
“Why would a man who was granted bail for corrupt practices by the same EFCC be allowed to preside over Saraki’s matter?
Ohazuruike berated the tribunal Chairman for his action during yesterday’s sitting.
https://cdn.dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/pro-saraki4.jpg
He said, “At yesterday’s sitting, the Chairman of the tribunal was busy correcting the witness who was giving his testimony, this is unacceptable.
“I practice this same profession as the Chairman and the judge is not allowed to explain to the witness what to say.
“Under the Inquisitory system of law, the judge can only ask the witness questions to indict him, but in the adversarial system which Nigeria practices, the judge is not allowed, he has to be independent,”

“We wonder the special interest in the Saraki’s matter.
“This tribunal has been sitting for years now, never has it been heard that the Chairman declared that a matter shall sit from 10am to 6pm”

Advocating for fair trial, Ohazuruike said, “This Chairman was recommended for prosecution by the last Attorney General, but the current one has shelved off that recommendation, why? And the same person is now presiding over Saraki’s matter, there is need for fairness in Nigeria’s judicial system.
Uhazuruike further stated, “We are not saying he should not be tried but the judicial institution in Nigeria should be fair in its dealings especially this particular proceedings.” http://dailypost.ng/2016/04/19/sarakis-supporters-invades-cct-trial-demands-fairness-of-trial-photos/ |

Politics › Saraki’s Trial Will Now Hold Everyday, Says CCT by midolian(op): 11:50am On Apr 18, 2016 |
Danladi Umar, chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), says the trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki will now commence from day to day.
Umar made the statement while scolding Gabriel Esegine, counsel to the federal government, who held brief for Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), the lead counsel in the trial of the senate president.
Esegine had asked the tribunal to stand down the matter for an hour so that Jacobs, who is at the appeal court, could continue it when he returns.
But Umar was displeased, and he wondered why Jacobs would be absent from such a sensitive case.
“This tribunal will not wait for anybody,” he said.
“According to the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, trials are to commence from day to day. And that’s what will happen now from 10am to 6pm.”
However, Umar stood down the matter to 12pm after giving the prosecution counsel a talking-to.
Kanu Agabi, counsel to Saraki, had consented to the application for stand-down before the tribunal ruled on it. https://www.thecable.ng/sarakis-trial-will-now-hold-everyday-says-cct#.VxS4PUQ920A.twitter
